The museum is free. YAY!!! I expected the museum to be like an actual museum. It is not. You walk through the candy shop and see some old molds and memorabilia from candy days passed. The old building is kind of neat. Watching people make chocolates is kind of neat as well. I guess I was less than excited about the video about cocoa beans and the old chocolate molds than some would be. Parking is across the street. It is not the greatest and can be a little difficult to get to. For some reason, people around here really like to just hang out in their cars while sitting in parking lots. I imagine they are new to cars - possibly reformed Amish - and are enthralled by the purring of the engine while they sit. read more

I have had a job where I bought chocolate for a company. When you have to taste every piece of chocolate, you become quite picky. Out the window went most American chocolates (from large companies) and out the window went most milk chocolate. I judge a chocolate by the taste of the dark chocolate, so I started by tasting the dark chocolate. This is not a sophisticated chocolate, but it's a great simple chocolate. I wasn't able to take a tour, which would have been very educational. The milk chocolate is on the sweet side, but not as overwhelmingly sweet as the average milk chocolate. I also bought gummie bears and jelly beans. NO ONE can beat Haribo gummies, so I won't even review these. The jelly beans were comparable to other jelly beans. The store is attached to a chocolate museum and if you're lucky, you'll see someone's grandmother making chocolate behind glass. You'll probably have another grandmother ringing you up. You can buy chocolates in pretty tins, or plastic bags. The atmosphere is very nostalgic and fits well with the product. I give it 3 stars because it's good, but it's not in the class of Scharffenberger or other such American made chocolates. read more

This is really great chocolate. The retail store is farely large and consists of all kinds of candy such as peanut butter cups, chocolate covered chips (both of which were fantastic) chocolate covered nuts, boxes of chocolates shaped into objects such as tools, and more. Behind glass in full view of the public is manufacturing equipment but this was not in use while I was there. I imagine you can watch the workers when they're running. There was also a lot of nostalgic candy things on display such as old cocoa cans and. They also sell t-shirts and magnets. read more

Disappointed that this store moved out of the chocolate factory since I was there 18 months ago. The atmosphere no longer feels historic. I looked for a simple postcard, and was disappointed to find out that they only had general Lancaster County and Lititz cards but nothing specific to the chocolate factory. It was such an iconic spot and had been reduced to a cliche retail store. read more

I loved this shop. The factory still makes chocolate drops and other items upstairs. You can watch some candy making done in the back of the first floor. There is an impressive display of antique candy making equipment and chocolate molds of all shapes and sizes. Wilbur's even has some antique advertising saved and on display. I bought Christmas gifts of fancy tins full of chocolate drops. I also bought a bag of chocolate drops for the house which lasted approximately three days with five adults and two kids constantly grabbing a couple each time we went through the kitchen. The Wilbur's Dutch Process Cocoa is NOT instant cocoa but is better than any mix. Follow the directions carefully, you will need salt and sugar and milk, but the result is worth the effort. I daresay that the chocolate at Wilbur's is better than Hershey. I love Milton Hershey as a person, and he made chocolate affordable for the masses, but Wilbur chocolate is smoother and creamier than Hershey's. read more

I grew up 7 minutes from Wilbur Chocolate and will continue returning to the store now that I have moved away. They have recently moved across the street from their original factory location which provides more space for the store and more parking for guests. The new store allows guests to view more of the behind the scenes candy making process which adds to the uniqueness of this place. I preferred the original layout of the factory equipment used in the early days of chocolate making, however they have spread some of those items throughout the new store. The staff are always pleasant, even when there are three cash registers being operated with lines 10 people deep! I rarely stray from purchasing the Wilbur Buds, whether it's for myself or for a friend. They depict the heart of this company and really display how wonderful their chocolate is. However, the peanut butter meltaways are delicious, chocolate covered pretzels are hard to beat when satisfying sweet and salty, and the chocolate wafers are perfect to take home, melt, and make your own Wilbur treats! Make sure to bring your wallet when you walk into this chocolate store. The prices are high, but it's some of the best chocolate you will ever taste! They offer a large variety of products and the flavors will not disappoint! Wilbur Chocolate is the heart of Lititz and will continue to draw tourists to this "Coolest Small Town in America". read more

My time in Lititz had us stopping by Wilbur's Chocolate Museum/Store. If I wasn't with a 3 year old, I probably would have stayed longer. This is a cute place in an old factory. They make homemade chocolate on site, which you can actually see them make. They have all sorts of goodies to buy as well. We tried some free samples they had as well. SOOOO Touristy. Waxy chocolate. I did not take the tour (Hershey's tour at age 8 was enough for me), so this review is for the store only. The old building is very cool, and I am regularly a HUGE fan of old buildings. However, the whirring, churning, and pummeling of the factory equipment upstairs, was TERRIFYING to me while in the store on the ground floor. The room was quaking the whole time. The place was PACKED with tourists, who I assumed had just come from a tour and had been desensitized, because no one else there seemed alarmed by the notion of rogue equipment threatening to crash through the walls at any moment, like I was. They had a huge selection of almost any chocolate delight you can imagine. Prices were quite high for chocolate. I realize this is handmade, etc. but mom-n-pop candy stores near me do not charge such high prices, and quality is better. With all the tourists, the lines were ridiculously long, and the cashiers were not particularly motivated to move people out of the store. Annoying. I was more than relieved to get out of there. I was disappointed later with the quality of chocolate, which tasted waxy and too sweet. In Europe they make candy without wax (a uniquely American ingredient), so I have been spoiled, perhaps, by trips to the continent, although, as I mentioned, local chocolatiers (Bevan's in Media, PA, etc.) produce candy a lot better than this. I would not recommend this place for the store or the chocolate. read more

Discovered this gem purely by accident while driving out to Amish country a few weeks ago, and what a serendipitous find it was. This is among the best tasting chocolate I've ever had and it melts in your mouth. As a history buff, I thought the little FYI they drop about how their "bud" predated the Hershey Kiss was pretty cool. So basically Hershey completely ripped off their idea. Another FYI, I left with two 12oz bags of buds (1 milk, 1 dark). Looks like additional minutes at the gym are on the horizon. read more

another must stop for the wife where family visits to pennsylvania always included a stop at wilburs. the last decade for us has been relegated to mail orders and many of my california co-workers knows your buds very well. for me it was nice to finally see where wilburs chocolate is made and we hope it stays there for many more generations to come. read more

The place had a uniqueness about it that allows it to stand out from other candy shoppes. It was very crowded, which isn't a bad thing but it detracted from the overall experience. The candy that we purchased was very tasty, but nothing overtly fantastic. It is a shame that the factory will be shutting down; there are a lot of jobs lost because of this. read more

Cute chocolate shop with some old fashioned molds, tools, porcelain chocolate pots in a historic building in the heart of Lititz. They even have a video playing so you can learn about how chocolate is made. So many different kinds of chocolates, there would be something for everyone - even fudge, which you can see being made. Not much in terms of an interactive museum/factory. Basically self-guided browsing of chocolate-making tools/machines. In the back there's a kitchen where you can see them making some chocolate-dipped goodies. It's not the main production factory. The bulk of the shop is dedicated to sell in their delicious chocolates! We selected the buds which my kids love and some dark chocolates with marshmallow & mint. We received coupons for a purchase good around the holidays which we can use online since we don't live in the area! read more

If the quality of staff match the quality of chocolate I would recommend this place I'm working on the Wilbur building across the street and parked my car in the lot for the store as I am hypoglycemic I need to get to things quickly sometimes to bring my sugar up I explained to the lady that this is why I was parking there and her response was it's not my problem the next time I parked there my car will be towed just saying I've been a customer for 10 years but I guess that one spot is worth more than my life thanks Wilbur read more

This small chocolate store is an amazing business in the small town Lititz, PA. I have lived here for 13 years and they never fail to make some of the best products. Although a bit pricey it is totally worth the money! They have samples that they have stopped providing due to COVID, but still have the store open. They are great gifts for family members that everyone will love. The store is set up nicely and everyone working is very kind. Would totally recommend! 5 stars! read more

This original store is fabulous for both young and old. Not to mention the free sample of Wilbur Buds, I may indulge in more than one from time to time. Wilbur is the only chocolate I bake with, everyone always asks the secret to my truffles, it's Wilbur! Visited here on 7-22-2013 & am just now getting to write a review. In a nutshell, it's an interesting shop chock-full of expensive chocolate. I didn't buy anything because I was appalled by the prices. Now, I know you can't get this chocolate anywhere, but let's face it, unless you're a real chocolate connoisseur or you live in this small Pennsylvania town or surrounding areas, who has heard of this place? They did give out Wilbur buds for free & you can see chocolate being made in the back. It's a nice old building right next to a duck pond & old railroad caboose. Some people were doing a photo shoot on the train tracks which I didn't think was that smart as it seemed like an active railway line as opposed to a disused one. I guess there is not much to do in small town PA. I'd definitely say this place is good for a look & there is a certainly a lot of variety. But the prices are way too steep. read more

I cannot understand all the reviews of praise. There is nothing to do here. It's a glorified gift shop. I don't know if there was a factory tour at one point, but there isn't anymore. Stumbled upon here after going to the pretzel store. They have a huge variety of chocolate. They have a walk through museum that showcases the history of their chocolate and how it's made, in the pack you'll see some of the chefs making fudge. The whole store is filled with all the chocolate you can imagine, covered nuts, chocolate trains, fruits, cookies, truffles and so much more! They also offer free samples. The chocolate is pretty dense compared to other brands I've had. It's very rich. Worth checking out. read more

I've been coming here for years. This is the BEST place to get your chocolate fix. This was my first visit to the new, larger store since they moved across the street into the former True Value Hardware space. I have to say, they have done a nice job of utilizing the space and it certainly does a better job of accommodating the large holiday crowds shopping for Christmas. I do, however miss the ambiance of the rustic old building the store shared with the production facility. Get your Buds! I always buy a 5# box of mixed buds to dole out into cute containers to give for those hard to please gift recipients, after all, who wouldn't love some creamy, rich chocolate Buds? You will find a variety of pre-decorated Wilbur branded containers full a Buds and a variety of nuts and fruits all dipped in this luscious confectionary. The staff are all welcoming and helpful and seem happy to be there. That always shows and makes a difference in the experience. If you like chocolate and never heard of Wilbur buds, make a beeline to this place quick. Whenever I am passing through the area I make sure to make a stop and pick some up. They are great and their familiar Hershey Kiss like shape actually predates Hersheys. They still make many of their chocolate in smaller batches by hand and it's delicious. There is a ton of history here - with historical chocolate items displayed all over the place. If you go during the week you will hear the machinery working above you. Very very cool. read more

My wife and I were visiting the Lancaster area and went for a walk through Lititz when we smelled the delicious scents coming from this factory. From blocks away on a quiet Sunday afternoon we found the source coming from the 100 year old factory decorated with American flags and banners showing their American pride. The factory like everything in Lititz is closed on Sunday but we came back on Monday and when we tried the free samples of the "buds" we were sold and brought home some of the confectionary treats and everyone (family and friends loved it). I have always loved Hershey's chocolate and I still do but I must tell you Wilbur's is much better. Do yourself a favour and visit the museum like shop and enjoy the wonderful scents and tastes of the Wilbur chocolate factory. read more

What's not to love about Wilbur Chocolate Factory? During the summer you can be anywhere in downtown Lititz and smell the chocolate in the air. This is a great museum where you can read up on the history of the company and see how they make the chocolate. I flew last minute to visit Ada G in Baltimore last weekend (and I really mean last minute, booking the ticket hours before departure) and right when I got there I demanded the dark chocolate chocolate buds her aunt sends every year (they only eat milk so it's my duty to eat their dark chocolate). What? No chocolate this year? A travesty! So what else could we do but take a road trip to Pennsylvania. The chocolate store is decent and the chocolate tastes good. This is my favorite chocolate of all time. It's a wonderful place to visit and the smells waft up and down the street. The chocolate is slightly nuttier than most. But it's wonderfully smooth and creamy. Plus Wilbur's been around for a long time, I even heard that Hershey worked for Wilbur before he started as a chocolate company. read more

AA typical stop when we have new visitors in the area. Most in Lancaster wish for Wilbur to be kept a secret so that all the tourist keep going to Hershey. However, if you like real chocolate then only a Bud will do. Older and 10x's better then the Hershey Kiss the taste and texture of a Wilbur bud will set you on a chocolate lovers dream path. What can one say about Wilburs.... "those buds are amazing!" This was one of the first places my husband took me when we moved up from Georgia. And I love the milk chocolate buds, even though the husband is a fan of the dark chocolate ones, I think they have way more flavor than hershey kisses. Its sad that they had to move the store from the factory, but this is still a great place to visit and pick up some chocolate goodies!! Defiantly worth a trip to Lititz! read more

This is how a chocolate factory should be, with grey-haired grannies hand-making the chocolate behind a glass window and displaying "chocolate art." They have more than just buds, too. Turtles, fudge, malt balls, toffee, it's all here. I love Amish country, and usually stop here to get a chocolate fix before heading home to Maryland. I feel like I'm helping out the little guy, too. BTW, Wilbur Buds were around before Hershey's and used to be individually wrapped in foil. Hmmm...coincidence? I don't think so. read more

Good chocolate, good selection, great staff. The buds are like kisses, only better tasting. They have a wide variety of assortments. Overall a good experience and a good product. Nearby parking was quick and easy on the Sunday we went. One minor caveat: the place is a factory and looks like one. I'd like to see them hire an architect to improve the appearance. read more
