INCOMPETENT, UNORGANIZED, DISHONEST OVERPRICED. I AM WARNING YOU TO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I hired this company for a heavy up and they moved my existing location to my roof blocking the reinstallation of a gutter. This was after failing inspection on their initial installation causing three trips to my house and days without electricity. Incompetent. Trying to contact them is frustrating. The entire company runs through someone working from home who then has to contact someone else to get any answers. Unorganized. They told me Pepco told them to block my gutters which is just a blatant lie. If they told you to put it where the old one was (like they claim) that would not be blocking a gutter. We've called on them several times during crises (thankfully we haven't had too many high stakes needs!), and they have always come through. Our first experience with them was in the winter of 2011 when we experienced a house fire and needed our home's electric panel replaced. The work was thorough, neat, and clean. Tonight they saved our bacon (quite literally...) when for some reason our entire house lost electricity at 9 pm. My husband gave Steve a call, and he very patiently walked him through several different scenarios and helped him to resolve the issue over the phone (troubleshooting the electric panel, checking the meter outside and flipping the breaker...). At first, I was pleased by Wilcox Electric. They arrived promptly and diagnosed my blinking lights. Exterior meter box needed to be replaced, easy fix. They put me on the schedule for that week to do the repair for apx 2 hrs worth of labor charges + parts. Then I decided to call and inquire (just ASK) what a full heavy up might cost, "just to explore my options" I told them on the phone "if one day I decided to add more appliances or something". Within a couple hours they canceled my repair, stating they suddenly "...weren't comfortable working on an old service line and box". Then gave me an estimate to do a full heavy-up to 200 amps for $4300 !!!! So basically, they weren't comfortable taking $400, but would be comfortable taking $4k+. So I told them to go pound sand, then called another electrical company. Again, I asked this electrician to track down the issue. Same result that Wilcox had originally told me, "It's your meter box, easy fix". "I don't need a heavy-up, or service lines replaced?" I asked the second company's electrician. "No, you certainly don't need that. We fix electrical issues, not sell people things they don't need". One hour and a few bucks later, my power is working perfectly. Plus a 5 year warranty. My poor dog was pretty exhausted from home renovations and contractors coming in and out, so it meant a lot that Dale and Steve immediately greeted my pup and made him feel comfortable with lot's of pets and verbal assurances. Outrageous charge. I called Wilcox for estimate of lighting in our house. The guy who came in was really nice. Gave us some nice ideas. We were very excited to get started. I called after few days that we didn't get an estimate yet. Their estimate was outrageous. 6500$ for around 15 lights. We were shocked. They were charging for labour as much as our combined salaries together. I mean we both are doctors but still 150$ per hour for the main guy and 60$ for helper. I mean did we make wrong choice of professions? Please don't rip people off based on their professions or where they live. I don't understand why 5 star reviews. I will never come close to them. I filled out their online form and got a prompt call from Tracy Wilcox that day to flesh out the kind of work that needed doing (moving a wall mounted box, checking some outlets to see if they were wired to switches/wired correctly). When it turned out the job was a little more complicated than expected (no one expects the Spanish Inqui.... a concrete pylon behind your bathroom vanity), Steve S. took it in his stride and came up with a solution. Steve explained what he was going to do before he did it, making sure that I understood and approved of the change in plans. He went above and beyond to make all my lighting dreams come true. And as I'm a renter, not an owner, Steve S. did me a solid by writing down not only what he did on the invoice, but included details so that should the unit owner decide to follow-up on some of the electrical work, he knew what was done and that he had options. He didn't push me into making any on-the-spot decisions, but told me what my options were, which I definitely appreciate. The second star is because Steve Wilcox is a great guy and seems somewhat knowledgeable. That's where it stops. Their prices are OUTRAGEOUS...150% of the average for our area for a regular electrician and 200% for an assistant. The young electrician they first sent out was unpleasant, and then I had to wait two days for the owner to come back out to check his work. Even then it was clear the owner was not really experienced with installing outside lights. I would have preferred he just say so. Overall a full week to get a quote on a job I told them was time sensitive. Quoted waaaay too much labor (job didn't warrant an electrician AND an assistant). Very disappointed. Got three alternative quotes from highly rated folks that were less than 1/2 what Wilcox quoted. read more

I don't recall the name of the first electrician who came by to review work that had been done during the prior owner's renovation, but he was knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. Today, Gando and an assistant prepared our home's electrical system for a heavy-up inspection and installed outdoor outlets in the front and back. Again, they were knowledgeable, friendly, and finished the project well within the estimated timeline. For our work (installing 3 light fixtures and removing an outlet), we needed hourly work instead of their usual whole home assessment.
