Instead of doing the oil change properly, their technician chose to vacuum the oil out because removing the undercarriage cover would "take too long." We relied on their expertise and trusted they knew what they were doing. The car was driven a short distance after the service and seemed fine. The next morning, however, it started misfiring immediately and was clearly unsafe to drive. The vehicle remained parked until it could be evaluated, and was eventually towed to a certified mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed a missing camshaft seal and advised that this type of failure is consistent with improper oil extraction using suction equipment and would not occur during a standard oil change. We paid $613.79 in repairs, plus the original $97.95 oil change. We made multiple attempts to contact the shop (calls and email). Eventually, their claims manager called on 3/25/2026 and denied the claim solely because they didn't get to inspect the vehicle first ignoring the fact that the car was unsafe to drive and that we didn't even know they caused the issue until after a professional diagnosis and repair. At this point, it's not just about the damage, it's about accountability. Cutting corners for convenience caused real damage, and they've refused to take responsibility. We are now pursuing this through small claims court. Use caution. An oil change shouldn't result in engine damage.

We are out money for a tow, and repair and Valvoline has yet to make us whole or contact us. Dawson Cook the manager at this shop has not once contacted us and we have called Valvoline & submitted all receipts and have repeatedly been told a check will be sent, yet with each call we make we get the same story - that Dawson Cook hasn't submitted his part of the paperwork. Do not give this place your business, if anything goes wrong you cannot speak to anyone that actually deals with the problem you are just sent "further up the chain" which gets you nowhere. We submitted our claim with all receipts and need this resolved. Claim # CS2247067. Plan on hiring an attorney if you use Seaside Valvoline.

We had an oil change on a Mini Cooper on Aug 25 and on the 29th, the Check Engine light came on. I looked at the dipstick and it was on minimum. When I returned to Ocean Auto, I was told that the Mini had a "closed system" which meant it didn't have a dipstick making it difficult to guess how much oil to put in. I said the way I knew it was on minimum was I checked the dipstick. I was then told not to return. "We don't work on foreign cars." The mechanic, who was nice, did add 1/2 quart, but the dipstick is still showing a quart low when I got home. Since we have a Subaru and a Mini (both "foreign cars"), we'll be finding another auto shop.
