The staff were all super friendly and welcoming, which always makes a difference. You can tell they take pride in the zoo and care about the guests' experience. I also think the admission price is a good value for everything you get. It never felt overcrowded, and there was plenty to see and do without feeling rushed. Overall, I had a really fun and relaxing time and will definitely be coming back again! Definitely remember to bring In a few quarters to buy fish food, etc!

Yet when you are 10 minutes away from a nationally-recognized zoo...OK! We were impressed with this zoo: the care taken to create an environment that each animal could feel good in. All I could remember were the old-style zoos with the poor animals in a concrete prison, bored and lethargic. It was so refreshing to see the opposite here. We wandered through the various lands (the zoo is well laid out) and had a marvelous time. Rhinos, lions, monkeys, flamingos, giraffes and more. All close enough to get good pictures. We appreciated that each area had a thoughtful description of the animals to learn more. Seeing the giraffes so close as they ate greenery was amazing! Even on a weekday, the zoo was bustling with families. The zoo also was starting a new endeavor, a light show beginning that night, which looks like it will be fun. My brother was set to visit the following week; we alas would be back in California, and have to content ourselves with photos.

This zoo is the…read moreperfect size for small children and families as you can stay for a few hours and still feel like you have seen everything! It was HOT the day we decided to go so we only stayed for a couple of hours. I do wish there was more shade on pathways, and fans and/or covered spaces to take a break from the Florida heat. We thankfully found a spot by the black bear exhibit that was air conditioned and had only two chairs, so I could feed our daughter. There were MANY other moms that came in looking to also feed their kids and it turned into a waiting game as we had to take turns using the two chairs in that building to sit and feed our babies. The animals were neat to see, because it was so hot a lot of the animals weren't out or were in shady places within their enclosure. I liked that there were zoo workers and volunteers near many of the exhibits that were available to answer questions and provide more information about the specific animals there. Overall we had a great time with our daughter and look forward to bringing her back again in the future.

GIFT SHOP: 2 STARS The ghastly high prices did not bother me, as one is supporting a worthy cause, but the tee shirt selection was sparse, and none with the handsome cheetah face on them. One thing I love about this place is that no two visits are ever the same -- every trip feels like its own little adventure. We checked out the new exhibit, which adds a ton of fun and freshness to the zoo. And of course, the usual stars were out: Toad the otter doing his thing, Ross the eagle looking majestic, and the elephants... whose names I wish I could remember. I do remember Mufasa, the male rhino. Fun fact: female rhinos actually run the group -- and a group of rhinos is called a crash. Learned something new today. But the unexpected star of the entire visit? The pizza. My goodness. That cheese pizza was ridiculously high‑quality -- gooey, melty cheese everywhere, absolutely delicious. I'm not kidding when I say I would come back just for the pizza... and obviously to see the animals too. We had a great time, ate well, learned a few things, and left already talking about our next visit.

ZooBrews, specifically, is one of our favorite events to attend in Tampa. Seeing how beautiful the zoo is at night, eating and drinking from seemingly endless booth options, and dancing by the manatee statue like children was worth every penny! Our other zoo experience stemmed from a very poorly planned and worded company event. But between feeding Gronk and being helped by many Zoo Staff members, including Hannah our favorite photographer, we turned a bad experience into a wonderful memory!
