I've been to Wild Ginger once before and my previous experience was pretty good too. I actually do remember why I didn't write a review the first time. The first time I went I waited like nearly 15 mins to get the check... I think they were short staffed that night and at the same time the server paying more attention to other parties... Today when I went for lunch the experience was better. I ordered a variety of sashimi and the protein roll and salmon avocado roll - no rice. The server seemed new but friendly. One thing I didn't like was the scallop sashimi. Probably the biggest scam in every sushi restaurant. They slice one scallop into 3 pieces and charge you as if it it were 2-3 whole scallops. It sure has been a LOOOOOOONG time since we've been to Wild Ginger. I was a little nervous reading more recent reviews telling me the restaurant had gone down hill. Our friend wanted to meet at Wild Ginger and I'm glad she did. We arrived first. I mentioned we were with the party of the person that made the reservation and we were seated. When our friends arrived we learned she requested to be seated in the back. Both of them have trouble hearing and sitting in the back away from the crowd made it easier to hear. The staff accommodated our move from the front to the back with aplomb. I ordered Spring Rolls and Sashimi Deluxe. The Spring Rolls were like a salad in a thin wrapping. The peanut sauce was delicious and overall I felt it was a super healthy choice. The roll filling was crisp and fresh. And now... Sashimi Deluxe. I was so pleased! The sashimi was delicious. Yummy sound-inducingly delicious. Even better was the dish did not include deep red tuna. This type of dense tuna always seems to end up on a sashimi deluxe meal and it is my least favorite. Hat's off to Wild Ginger for skipping it. Every fish was flavorful and melted in my mouth. I'd come back to Wild Ginger for my sashimi fix any day of the week. The miso soup was a bust. It was lukewarm at best and not very flavorful. Mark had Pad Thai. He said it was very good. He always gets Pad Thai when it's available so he has a lot of Pad Thai references for comparison. The place has really gone downhill in the past year. I've noticed a number of small things over time that have made it more and more disappointing to order from this spot, and today I've had two more issues with a recent UberEats order. The attention to detail that used to come through every time I ate here is kinda missing. Today's issue were overpriced summer spring rolls that were already busted open, didn't have any mint in them, but DID have old carrots and cabbage in them. How do I know they're old, some of the lettuce was browning and the carrot strips were browning/dried out. I don't even want to review the sushi roll I got. It's just sad. read more

This was a Mother's Day celebration for our group of 5. We had a reservation and no wait for seating. The server was very friendly; service was a little on the slower side, which made sense given the holiday. I had the Buddha's Delight, minus carrot and broccoli- just had them add extra of the other veggies. It was DELICIOUS! We had crab Rangoons for the table to share and they were probably some of my favorite ones I've had. Even thought it was quite busy, the noise level wasn't terrible. At first, I ordered the basil stir fry but didn't pay attention to the fact that it comes in a sauce... so I asked them to replace it with the wild ginger stir fry (basically the same thing but with no sauce) and it was really good! Tried these green veggie dumpling looking things; they were , so good!!! Also tried the winter roll (similar to a spring roll) and it was good but I liked it better without the Thai chili sauce that comes with it - I just ate it plain. Would definitely go back! The pad see ewe was made with 1/2" thick wheat noodles and the sauce was slightly modified soy sauce. No resemblance to pad see ewe. We frequent the area a lot and always smell the Asian spices as we pass. I decided to finally try this out and my go-to is always pad thai. If it's right, then a lot of other dishes will likely be the same. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. I ordered for carry out. I parked right in front which probably never happens for frequent guests, but it was right after 5pm rush hour on a weeknight. The bean sprouts were very fresh and crunchy, which I love, love, love, but there was way too much meat, not enough tahini flavor and not enough vegetables/color. For $16 the portion was a bit short as well as the container was shallow compared to other places we go for pickup. I'll give them 4 stars for efficiency. 2 stars for flavor. 2 stars for parking. 2 stars for ambiance. I hear the back is a little romantic, but I didn't venture to see for myself. One of Best Thai in Hyde Park. Firstly, it's noticeably clean, which always makes me feel better about dining out when I can tell a restaurant is serious about cleanliness. The service was excellent--each staff member was attentive and polite. I had a Thai tea that was extremely refreshing on a hot day, perfectly sweet. Our appetizers were the Vegi spring rolls and Wild Ginger salad, both vegetarian but still very flavorful and hearty. I had the red curry with chicken, which was phenomenal. We were sat in the bar area, which gave us a view of the street, which was entertaining. They do have hibachi and regular tables. The bartender was also our waitress. She was on her third day there, but she did a good job. We started with green gyoza, which was very good. I had the ginger stir fry with chicken. It was excellent. Our servers were kind and attentive, from seat to first food was maybe 20 minutes. We ordered a variety of plates and everything was large portions and good quality with many of us having left overs. The chef was a lot of fun with the normal jokes and theatrics plus a mindful eye to not mess with people who don't want to play along. Drinks were good and they even let us bring in our own dessert. I'm a long time customer of Wild Ginger since I moved to Cincinnati two years ago and my experience yesterday cemented my adoration for the restaurant. My work group made a reservation that ended up being a third of the size due to some of my colleagues not showing up without notice. The server VERY graciously gave a difficult but necessary message to us about how that negatively impacted them as a small business since they unnecessarily turned down business to accommodate our reservation size. Although I'm I did stick to my reservation commitment, I know that message had a mindset shift impact on me personally that will always make me make mindful decisions on reservation commitments in the future. We each decided on the lunch combo of a salad and 3 classic rolls. I ordered the Kyoto Roll, Fusion Roll & the Spicy Yellowtail Roll. My daughter ordered a Philadelphia Roll, Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll & the Crunchy Crab Roll. All of the fish tasted fresh and the rolls were displayed appealingly on the plate. Our service was excellent, and the sushi/sashimi combo feature much larger pieces of excellent fish than the 'half price' places even think about. My celiac husband and I went into Wild Ginger yesterday mid-afternoon, thinking maybe we'd be more able to ask questions during a non-busy time. We told our server, Alex, that he has celiac and what we were hoping to learn, and she offered to help as there were language obstacles in the kitchen. She told us the restaurant was in the process of updating their menu, and that the new version would have gluten-free options marked, and then OMG...she offered to let us look at her own personally marked-up copy that she uses with customers requesting GF! She's even marked on one section, "make note not to deep fry", which means she's attuned to the risk of cross-contamination, which is a major issue for celiacs that many restaurants aren't aware of. We'll definitely be asking for her next time we're in. read more

I'm a regular at wild ginger. Their drunken noodles are my favorite. However, yesterday I had sushi there for the first time (lent) and it was AMAZING. Great prices and super fresh. They also have real ginger and not the pink stuff many resturants have! Other things that are important- the waiters/waitresses are friendly, if there is a wait it is usually only a few minutes and the food always come out quick. Love this place. read more
