When we were at the Tap inn we had pretty bad service, very uninterested wait staff, good food , bad service.

I ordered the Nashville Hot chicken and it was incredible. It was crispy, oversized, extremely hot, I was crying after eating it. My girlfriend got the eggs Benedict, which she loved, and I stole some of. The real star of this restaurant is the donuts and spicy cheese curds though. I would literally travel back to Minneapolis just for those. I think I dream about them in my sleep. The vibe is great inside, it's retro, but not in a try-hard way. Solid service as well they're just so sweet and local. Must try spot if you're visiting Minneapolis.

The veg was a very not cut correctly: chunks of green bell peppers and over chunky sliced onions that were not cooked through. Please stop being lazy and chop your veg and cook the onion . Green salad was hot Not impressed. And the Bloody Mary mix is sub par. However, the diner is cute and service is good. Second visit: had to sit at counter which is fine. They were busy. The bad: Bloody Mary's were flat and expensive $13 each. No depth of flavor, thought we would give them a second chance. . Ordered croquette madame. Egg was severely undercooked - the egg white was gelatatinous and the bread way too thick, ham fatty and subpar, where were you Béchamel? I took a bite of my breakfast and he hands me a box at the end when I asked for the check--not asking if anything is wrong. Two bites out of the spring mix salad and sandwich. Bloody Mary full. $70 for a salad, madame croquette, slow service which is no problem. It's a tiny diner and around lunch time. No worries there. But uncomfortable dining service because we could feel the tension between the server and bartender. Again for me? NBD but my daughter did not appreciate this. The good: the Mediterranean salad was delicious according to my daughter. She had the same thoughts about the Bloody Marys. Super cute beer backs- pony miller high life. I brought the croque madame home and my son loved it. Went on and on about how amazing it was. In all fairness my adult kids loved their food. He did microwave it to cook the egg through. Yes I know I am picky because I worked in the restaurant industry for over 22 years. And I can make better food at home. I just expect a bit more if I am going to drop $70 for two lunch entrees and two drinks. Not including the tip. Bottom line: I would not go back for this very expensive diner that doesn't know how to properly cook simple things. Or chop veg. Or make a drink.

SIMPLY STUFFED A…read morefull belly is assured after finishing one of the 5-8 Club's famous 'Juicy Lucy' cheeseburgers. I'd read there are two places to try an authentic Juicy Lucy in Minneapolis: Matt's and the 5-8 Club.  Matt's claims to be the original, but it's a smaller divey restaurant, harder to find parking and they only accept cash which is unusual in this day & age.  So, with kids in tow, limited time, and virtually no cash, we chose the 5-8 Club. Getting here was pretty easy; in fact, it was "speak easy" (hehehe).  The 5-8 Club started as bootleggers back in the roaring 20's and later invented the signature molten cheese-filled burger in the 50's.  Although the 5-8 Club has three other locations, this one off of Highway 62 in Minneapolis is the original. The wait was much longer than we were prepared for, I'd guess 20-30 minutes before any food came out.  We were absolutely famished by the time the burgers arrived and dove right in.  My wife gave high praise to the Juicy Lucy ($14.50), a 1/2lb burger stuffed with choice of American, Swiss, or blue cheese. The onion straws ($11) were a tasty concept, but they were too soft and lacked a dipping sauce.  A small cup of blackened ranch, beer cheese, ANYTHING would've been better than the 'nothing' they gave us.  I dug the chicken poppers ($10) with "poppas" sauce, a zippy mixture of bbq, buffalo and other spices.  Fries were fine. I polished off a 'Saucy Sally' ($16.50), a Juicy Lucy topped with shredded lettuce, grilled onions and thousand island dressing.  It was essentially a Big Mac with liquid cheese in the middle, and that's by no means a bad thing.  It was both messy and delicious. Bread = 4 Circuses = 3.5 Atmosphere was that of a midwestern tavern: dark wooden booths, a vaguely musty smell, the aroma of sizzling beef patties with clientele that seemed to be a mix of regulars ordering 'the usual' and tourists like us.  Our server was friendly but check-ins were infrequent. * TL;DR * We couldn't leave the Twin Cities without getting a stuffed burger, now could we? Final thoughts: the Saucy Sally was a very good burger that squeezes into my top 10......but the top 5 spots are still occupied by Bad Apple, Au Cheval, Lockdown (RIP), Empire, and Next Whiskey Bar, all in Chicago / the outlying suburbs. The speed of service was very slow and the onion straws were a disappointment, though apart from that it was a great lunch.  We were glad to stop by, and should we find ourselves here again I'd be happy to try a different iteration of the Juicy Lucy at the 5-8 Club.

Beer was cold, who could ask for more? Sever was very nice but after our appetizers, she forgot to take our main order. I am giving this place a 5 basis on the food! Well done
