Enjoyed a warm spring evening on the rooftop of the Lexington (recently named in the top three rooftops of the Twin Cities in Msp Magazine!). We were warmly greeted by the host who sat us right away in a sunny spot. Our server was wonderful. I ordered a drink that ended up not being up to par, and he kindly offered to switch it to something else with grace and class, without making me feel badly for asking this. This goes to show the caliber of this long standing institution. Customers are treated well and are respected here. Our snacks from the menu were delicious and perfectly sized. The shrimp cocktail was made well. The lamb meatballs were flavorful and hearty. My Hemingway Daquiri was refreshing without being too liquor forward. Love all the Luxardo drinks on the menu! We had an absolutely fantastic first experience. Eric our server was absolutely fantastic. The cocktails were great. The appetizers, walleye cakes and lobster cauliflower cheese were both delicious, especially the walleye cakes which were divine. For entrees we had the scallops with wild rice and the steak diane, again both were fantastic. The side of fries we ordered was also so good. We were celebrating an anniversary and they took a family picture that they printed out for us to take home as well as offered a vanilla sundae for dessert, both which were a very nice touch. We also had the chocolate cake which was ok, a little dry for our liking. The atmosphere/vibes were absolutely immaculate inside. There is valet parking available for $15 in the back lot too. Love the Lexington every time! This is a special occasion place for me, a little pricey, but sooooo worth it. In the summer I love the patio (they have fun patio drinks like the frozen rosé). It's so fun to be on the rooftop, and they offer plenty of shade for hotter days. This time I got lobster spaghetti & it was deliciously creamy and buttery without being too heavy. Went for a couple cocktails on a Saturday night and it wasn't crowded. They have many options to dine in, several bars and dining rooms and rooftop. We went downstairs bar. The bartender was kind. Tried shrimp cocktail, which was delicious with some onions and tomatoes and dehydrated, jalapeños Calamari was OK but decent size. Huge chocolate cake with mascarpone cream on the side (according to bartender new recipe) was very dry. Definitely needed to mascarpone cream. Old-fashioned was delicious. read more

The staff is very professional and provides strong service in line with the historic environment. However, the place where The Lexington suffers for me is with their food. The menu feels a bit disjointed and the prices far exceed what feels reasonable based on the complexity and quality of the dishes we ate. None of the dishes were bad, per se, but they were pretty average renditions considering the price point. There were also out of the chicken pot pie, which we had hoped to try, even though it was only 6 pm. Next time I'd probably just come for a drink to enjoy the vibe of the bar. read more

Aesthetically speaking, the restaurant is absolutely amazing. I had to walk around for a bit just to take in how cool the place looked. One of the staff members noticed and kindly offered to show me around. Halfway through my mini tour, he told me that he was the one who did all the Christmas décor--and that he's been collecting these pieces over the last 15 years. I was really grateful for that experience. Honestly, the entire visit--from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out--was top-notch. For food and drinks, I ordered a Moscow Mule, the Meatloaf Wellington, and the lobster with cauliflower cheese. It was my first time trying a Wellington, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but unfortunately it just wasn't for me. The lobster, however, was a definite hit--I ate every bit of it! The drink was very good as well. For sure each items is on the pricier end but given the service your definitely getting your money worth. A friend bought tickets to CynCity Tours "Baseball & That Ain't All " held in The Lexington banquet room. So we came early for food and drinks. This was all new to us so we didn't know what to expect. Traffic and parking was busy (Weekday 5pm) but we fell into a great parking spot lot across Grand Ave. The shoppe is closed and the lot then opens up to The Lexington patrons at 5:30pm. The Lexington is white linen tabletop fancy. Sal and I like to sit at the bar so we killed time with drinks and an appetizer. The bar was full, however we found a skinny rail with barstool seating just behind the bar in the cocktail lounge. A nice place to perch, sip, snack and talk smack. Sal ordered a Non-alcoholic Wisconsin old fashion and I got a Non-alcoholic Lavender Lemon Drop. Both had strong flavor without the woo-woo side effect. Now the menu is expensive. We looked over the apps and decided on a relish tray. The description said "housemade pickles" but there were no pickles! It had herring which is a pickled FISH... nope! The cured meat was okay (better than the fatty, chewy capicola ham served upstairs). The creamy cheese ball was good on the hard bread cracker. It reminded me of the shape on Birch bark, long and folded a in C- shape. The deviled eggs left you with a spicy cayenne aftertaste. One was plenty rich and I can slam back some deviled eggs at a good potluck. There was a liver pâté under pickled red onions and plate was decorated with dollops of yellow mustard and spicy mustard seeds. And there was a basket of traditional bread rolls and butter. That was my favorite thing out of everything. My take away is that when the bread is #1 and the cubed cheese on the app tray is pungent (like gym socks), it's TOO fancy for me. We found our server and the bill was handled quickly before we headed upstairs to our Baseball presentation. A positive note: all the staff we interacted with (maitre d, bartenders, waiter who brought out the food, and our waitress) were all wonderful and helpful. The glamor and ambience was on point!! If you like sophistication, this place is for you! If you like Juicy Lucy's and Grainbelt, maybe stick with the corner dive bar. read more

Sadly, I did not take any pictures.. but I have to say.. my experience was absolutely a 5 out of 5! Came here with a few people on a Saturday early evening and we went straight to the patio. I do love how the patio has a back entrance and you do not need to go through the entire restaurant. The patio is such a night light, airy space, enough table separation and just a good, clean feel. You walk right up the stairs and are greeted by the host / the bar and it is just such an experience! We were seated almost immediately and ordered some drinks (which came out to perfection). We ordered the oysters.. they were pretty dang good, tasted fresh, and came exactly how we wanted them to. We ordered the walleye cakes and they were so nice and crunchy, crispy, with some good flavor on top of a little cucumber salad. We also ordered the burrata.. lemme tell ya, I would order that strictly for that grilled, crispy, toasty, bread again! Incredible. The roasted mushrooms are also just so incredible, they come perfectly cooked with so much flavor.. a must order! The service was amazing, the food and the vibe was incredible. We parked on the street in the neighborhood but they have valet too. The server overheard some of our table forgetting their glasses so they came and gave them spare readers! Best Salmon of My Life The Lexington is an old school supper club on Grand Ave in St Paul, Mn. Our Thanksgiving dinner last year was so good we decided to go again this year. Does two years in a row make for a tradition? I guess we'll know next year. The Lex is pricey and the kind of place you'll want to dress up for. But the food, the service and the ambiance make for a very special night out - perfect for an anniversary, milestone birthday or, in this case, Thanksgiving dinner. Known for their steaks and seafood, but I needed a "healthy option" . Cooked perfectly with bearnaise served on the side, the Salmon Oscar exceeded expectations. Others at our table ordered scallops, a burger and the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I have had the Thanksgiving dinner before. It competes with anything you'd make at home (even better, I think). On what had to have been one of their busiest nights of the year, the Lex delivered: cheerful efficient service, excellent food and the kind of atmosphere you can only get at an establishment thats been a local legend for nearly a century. I am grateful that places like The Lex still exist and that I am able to treat my family to a special meal at such a place. read more

Upon being greeted, you are to a table or the giant booth like I was where I ordered The steak and the Gnocchi! The steak was cooked to perfection and the gnocchi is worth coming back again and again! It's in a mushroom cream sausage who made it stand out like any other gnocchi I've never had before! the service is very professional, but can be a little cold cause I'm a little more! Tonight was sitting at the Williamsburg's bar and Andrew took care of us. The ambiance as always was great. The food (Wellington meatloaf - rich & fantastic for three , oysters, lamb - yum, etc) always good! With Andrew & Williamsburg bar + the Friday - Saturday Jazz, it was fantastic - Aviator with foamed egg white, The Lux, 'Mulled wine' made to order, Pisco Sour made to order, and so much more - The Lexington crested egg nog!, espresso martini- bourbon soaked coffee bean , the Lexington Old Fashion (Williamsburg). Very consistent This time we have "le serveur extraordinaire" (server that went above and beyond) His name is Matt. Classical atmosphere that takes you back in time. Solid menu choices, the chateaubriand was very good. The service is pretty good, it would be nice if the manager would take the time to check in on tables like he used to. (For 5-star service, go to Boccio, Baldamar, Mannys, or Acqua). What is very disappointing is this classy restaurant does NOT offer Espresso. Imagine a big beautiful brass Espresso machine behind the bar! They would sell so much they would pay for it in 6 months! I recommend not venturing beyond ordering steaks. Seafood was definitely a bit of a stretch for them. If you eat here, I would recommend ensuring where you will be seated. The food isn't good enough without the atmosphere of the formal dining room. The drinks are good. Despite having a reservation and being dressed nicely, we were seated in the bar. The restaurant wasn't very full for a Sunday evening, so it seemed like this may have been due to staffing issues. The atmosphere of the bar was just what one would expect for a bar, including sports on big screens. That would be great, if we weren't trying to have a special evening. Went for dinner with some couples. We met in the bar. Be careful where you sit, there's a whole weird thing with who gets to serve you. The waitress who helped us was very friendly, the problem came when half sat at bar and half stayed in the waitress section. We assured the first person we knew the rules and would order/pay appropriately and explained those sitting in waitress section would order/pay her and the others would order and pay bartender, four of us have been servers, we get it. To be told THREE more times how we needed to pay by three different people, none of which was our waitress, I was irritated. Moved to our table 20 minutes past our reservation, our waitress was lovely. Unfortunately the food was not great. The oysters were really tiny, our steaks under seasoned, the "loaded" potato was not hot and had a small dollop of sour cream, a few chives and I think 4 little pieces of bacon. The creme brûlée was overcooked. Grasshopper pie and fresh bread were wonderful. The reason we didn't send anything back is because our reservation was late, we were tired and we didn't want to hold anyone up but when you're paying what we paid for dinner we absolutely should have. read more

Came here on a chilly Sunday night. The inside is dark, classy, and cosy. My aunt and I split a bunch of food--the walleye cakes, a beet salad, the steak diane, and a stuffed squash. All of it was good! The beer salad was a generous portion, the steak was seasoned well and didn't need the cream sauce, and I particularly liked the stuffed squash (though overpriced if you ask me). I appreciated that the kitchen split most our food onto separate plates for us! That's always a win! read more

Stopped by the rooftop of the Lexington for cocktails with the girlfriend on a beautiful Friday night. The ambiance was great! It feels really open yet private. For the first round, we ordered the old fashioned and a White Russian. Both were delicious. For the second round , I described my preference to the bartender and asked him to suprise me! He got really excited and made me a "Paper Plane by the Rufete". It was incredible and came with a little paper plane that one of the waitresses makes by hand. The felt pretty special. The venerable old Lexington on Grand Avenue in St. Paul has a long and well-deserved reputation as a supper club and steakhouse, smoking hot plates, serving up big beautiful portions and steaks perfectly. I'll just cut to the Chase the food is excellent! Service is proficient, professional and gets it. Well trained and mannered. Brandi old fashions are a must (even non-alcoholic versions). The weight staff is confident and most assured of their abilities, but nevertheless, friendly and approachable . The ambience is old-school St. Paul. It may as well be 1952; wouldn't know the difference. Classic and well decorated. Cool historical photos in the lounge area! Jimmy Carter was here? Plenty of parking on street. The parking lot in back is small and cramped. Stay on street. It's best to make a reservation, and to let them know if you have any special desires- they will earnestly try to fulfill your special request. I think the Lexington is fun! It's a little bit of a time machine... like eating dinner in a movie set. I will go back again with a larger group and share the massive side dishes. read more

Ambiance - definitely a ten. Absolutely a charming historical ambiance. Service - simply wonderful. No complaints here. Food - all food we tried were incredibly mediocre and flavorless. The filet my wife ordered was medium rare as compared to the medium rare she ordered. The filet lacked the wonderful flavor of a filet you get at the Capital Grill or Ruth Chris. The blue cheese butter ordered with the filet was lacking blue cheese and a terrible. My wife gave me the half of her filet that was terribly undercooked. I concurred with her assessment. I started with the onion soup which was very bland as compared with any onion soup I have had anywhere else. I ordered the steak Diane as my entree and similarly found the steak flavorless and the sauce very bland. The mushrooms were ok. Everything at this restaurant is insanely overpriced when considering the poor quality of the food. What a testimony of needed upgrades in the kitchen. To rub salt in the wound, the Lexington charges you $15 to park your car and get fleeced with an overpriced low quality meal. This experience is definitely a once and done. read more

The Lexington is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the Twin Cities. It is an excellent spot for a night out with friends, celebrate a special occasion (there were a lot of grads tonight), a date, or a family meal. This historic dining establishment features several spaces, each with its own charm. This time, we sat in the main dining area, which has all the trimmings of a classic fine dining restaurant. Dark wood, faceted crystal chandeliers, and tufted chairs come together to make you feel like you have stepped back in time to the mid-century era. This mood is reflected in the menu, where you will find classic American fine dining favorites like a Brandy Alexander and steak Diane alongside modern fare like vegan bolognese (featuring Impossible Meat). It's an amazing experience to dine here. This evening, I started with the Petite Greens, a simple salad comprised of greens, assorted shaved vegetables, fresh herbs, and a just-zippy-enough vinaigrette. Everything was fresh as can be and perfectly prepared--a gorgeous and inviting presentation. It is a very generous portion. For my main, I had the vegan bolognese. It was an excellent marriage of the traditional and modern--the classic tomato sauce was that comforting and familiar taste you remember, but it was made with ingredients for more modern palates: Impossible Meat and a gluten free pasta (cooked to a perfect Al denté). You'll also love the use of pine nuts here. We also had a side that was the star of the evening--roasted mushrooms with truffle butter and crispy leeks. This was truly the star of the evening for me: savory, salty, chewy, tender, crispy... it's all of my favorite things in one bite. I would eat this for any meal, any time. Again, the portions were generous--I have lunch for tomorrow for sure! For dessert, I had to dig deep (see above: generous portions), but the chocolate cake with caramel sauce was 100% worth it. Exactly the right level of sweetness, a lovely crumb on the cake and creaminess to the frosting, and a unique caramel sauce that the cake absorbed to add some toasty and salty contrast. This slice of cake is massive, so expect to share. The Lexington is also known for its bar, so you know to expect a good selection. You won't be disappointed. The extensive wine list will please any aficionado, and the beer and cocktail offerings are also impressive. They have some lovely zero-proof options as well. I had the lavender lemon drop and really liked it--you'll not be disappointed if you're a non-drinker and want to have something festive. We went to the Lexington on Thanksgiving which was also my birthday and it did not disappoint. This is a historic building. Our waiter gave us a brief history since it was our first time there. They knew it was my birthday because it was marked on our reservation and they definitely made me feel special. We got a cauliflower and lobster gratin for an appetizer. My husband had mushroom stroganoff and I ordered the Turkey dinner special. I had enough leftover for a meal the next day. My husband had an old fashioned which he said was good. I have eaten everywhere from empanadas sold out of the back of a dodge caravan to a 2 Michelin star restaurant in Chicago (moody tongue) and I can say without a doubt this was the best food experience I've ever had. Charles our server and the hostess, along with the young gentleman helping bring food out were all very helpful, polite, and seemed to really enjoy giving us great service and a great experience. The hostess went out of her way to make us feel welcome and Charles went out of his way to really get in depth with what was on the menu, and drink menu, as well as giving us good recommendations. My girlfriend and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary. We shared the crab wontons and the tenderloin tips. We both enjoyed the crab wontons but the tenderloin tips were epic! We then shared the truffle gouda gnocchi, and the Yukon gold whipped potatoes. The gnocchi was spectacular and the whipped potatoes might be the best mashed/whipped potatoes we've ever had! My girlfriend got the salmon and I got the ribeye and both were cooked to perfection temp and tasted delicious. I'm kinda a stickler with my steaks and this steak was great! After our meal the hostess snapped a picture of my girlfriend and I and Charles brought out a sundae free of charge to help us feel a little more special on our anniversary. It feels like it is my birthday every time I visit the Lex. I saw their new Pina Colada on instagram and headed for their wonderful rooftop - even on a 90 degree day. The rooftop is first come (no reservations) and has a load of umbrellas to keep you shaded canopy style. There is also a TV if you are a game watcher. The ice cold drinks kept everything cool in the heat. Staff is outstanding. Friendly and full of fun history facts. Always had our water filled to the top in this heat. The drinks were so delicious you cannot only order one. Andrew and Patrick made this new Pina Colada and it is a MUST. I have been searching for the top PC in the Twin Cities and this is IT. They added USA flags to compliment the 4th of July holiday happening the next day. Andrew suggested ending the food service with a Pink Squirrel. We were so full and still said yes. I am glad we did, because it was the PERFECT grand finale - and like taking on a light dessert. We needed to split one pink squirrel (because SO stuffed from eats) and he came with two smaller cocktail glasses and prepared it on the table. Included was cute bike horn sound off and colorful sprinkles. What a fun experience. For food: Ate crab wontons and the open face lobster sandwich that went well with what felt like staycation drinks. I always order the lobster sandwich when I am here. My staple. The crab wontons were very good and not like other wontons around town that are dominated by creme cheese overload. You can very much taste all of the ingredients, the crab for sure. The filet mignon was one of the best I've had. And the walleye cakes appetizer had amazing sauce and excellent as well. We also enjoyed the beet salad. I thought the food was fantastic.
