It might not seem like a nice place at first but the second you walk in you get the true bed and breakfast feel. Everyone is so inviting especially the dog Tucker. The rooms are absolutely adorable and the perfect size. The breakfast is delicious and it's in a perfect distance from Longwood Gardens.

There are several structures throughout the BNB, we stayed in the Pond House in the Fats Hollow Room. The room had a beautiful view of the fountain and the pond, there is even a little row boat! The large king sized bed was super comfortable and the décor in shades of blue was very soothing. The owners are incredibly hospitable to their guests and made us feel so welcome. The check in area also serves as the "dining room" for the incredible breakfast served daily. I loved the snacks, coffee and soft drinks that are available. Breakfast was a TREAT! Homemade cinnamon rolls, crunchy fresh granola and Greek yogurt then a hearty spread of delicious sausage links, thick sourdough toast, fresh fruit (cut into delightful shapes) and a brown butter omelet. So satisfying and fresh. We raved about it for a bit! (The fresh preserves were a hit also) The location is so convenient to Longwood (which we visited), wineries and restaurants. Literally perfect. Lance and Sandy, thank you for your incredible hospitality, you truly made us feel so welcome and we'd love to return someday.

Comfort and elegance merge in each of the richly decorated rooms. I don't believe there is a bad one to be had here at the Inn, though the suites offer a tad more luxury. Your charming innkeepers are eager to please creating foods to delight the eyes and palate. Everything at Whitewing Farm is welcoming, personal and designed for ultimate in comfort. You will feel like royalty and leave refreshed. The sprawling grounds contain a pond, gazebo, tennis courts and a pool. The Haybarn is a common area that hosts a seating area with fireplace, library and wine cellar. Beautiful florals and lush greens rapture your soul as the quiet surroundings engulf you luring you away from the technology and chaos of daily life. My experience at Whitewing could not have been better, unless of course I could have stayed a few more nights and escape the reality of my life. Five full stars all the way.

Built in the 1860s and beautifully restored, the hotel is beautiful. Formerly Faunbrook Bed & Breakfast, it's now a book-themed hotel, with seven rooms filled with books you can read during your stay. We stayed in Jane's Room - a room inspired by Jane Austen. Not only was the room gorgeous (complete with a great selection of books, picture of Jane above the bed, and a bed draped with red velvet), the bathroom was gorgeous, too. And the room had all the amenities: electric tea kettle, coffeemaker, towels, slippers, and more. They also have a very nice main level with space for reading or sitting by the fire. Just a beautiful building. The hotel is self-check-in style. They text you the day of your stay with the code for the front door and the combination for the lockbox for the key to your room. It didn't take away from the lovely stay. It snowed overnight during our stay, so we woke up to an even more charming hotel. That added to an already wonderful stay. If you're a reader or even if you're not, you can have a great hotel stay at this unique and charming hotel.

The hotel is immaculately clean, and was a haven after our cross country flight on both occasions. We were greeted warmly and asked if anything was needed, though we had our door codes conveniently delivered so the entry was smooth. Our rooms were impeccably clean, and the beds very comfortable. The lobby is beautifully decorated with an impressive stone fireplace and the coffee table included fresh cut flowers (lilies in January - exuding a lovely scent that added to the warmth of the fire itself). The breakfast room was equally lovely and cheery, and a thoughtful array of pastries, cereals, fruit, waffles, yogurt, bagels, coffee, teas, juice and more were available. The proprietor and staff were wonderful. The Brandywine River Hotel is conveniently on the way to see family, but even if it were not I would go out of my way to stay there. It's a true gem.

However, when my travel plans changed, I contacted the hotel in advance. The front desk staff reviewed my reservation and explicitly approved the change to my stay. Based on that conversation, I had every reason to believe everything had been handled correctly. When I checked out, I discovered I had been charged for an additional night anyway. Rather than explain what happened or investigate the discrepancy, the front desk attendant repeatedly avoided answering my questions and seemed more interested in talking around the issue than resolving it. After several attempts, I asked to speak with the manager. Unfortunately, the interaction only became worse. The manager was dismissive, rude, and visibly irritated that I questioned the charge. She rolled her eyes during the conversation and bluntly told me I would be charged regardless of the reservation change that had previously been approved. There was no attempt to understand the situation, acknowledge the conflicting information provided by her staff, or offer any reasonable customer service. As a Marriott Titanium Elite member, I don't expect special treatment--I simply expect honesty, professionalism, and for the hotel to honor commitments made by its staff. If there was a mistake, own it. If the change shouldn't have been approved, explain that respectfully. Instead, I was met with indifference and an attitude that left me feeling like my loyalty and business meant nothing. Mistakes happen. Poor customer service is a choice. Unfortunately, this stay will be remembered not for the property itself, but for how poorly a straightforward issue was handled.
