This was the worst experience. Had an animal skin (tiger) rug that was in need of repair, re-back and restoration. Paid $2100.00 and when I picked up the rug is was as if a child in kindergarten had the white glue out for the first time, the work was sub par and extremely disappointing. Have photos of the child like repair if anyone wants to see the example of the lack of quality and lack of attention to detail. Will never use this service ever again. Buyer beware. No hyperbole. He tried repeatedly to substitute another animal skull for my pet's. Full story below. He received my pet's head a year and a half ago, and afterwards when it was finally a skull, tried to sell me another cat's skull with 4 intact fangs. My cat has only 3 fangs and the skull he gave me had 4. When confronted with this fact in front of his class at Paxton Gate Kid's location he lost it. He yelled, stood an inch from my chest and refused to move. He didn't seem sorry he tried to sell me another client's skull. We parted as he yelled "this is why I charge more for assholes like you" and the manager informed me I was trespassing and needed to leave. "Kristen" was the name on the receipt he tried to hand me. I had my wife deal with him a few days later to avoid further conflict. He dodged her attempts to pick up the skull until yesterday, when she finally drove to Fremont to pick it up. Again he handed her a cat skull with 4 intact fangs. She called him on it at which point he became nervous and asked her to come back later. She refused and watched him rummage through disorganized animal parts for one whole hour. Failing to find it, she was given a refund and although he apologized for his behavior, I can't help but feel it was because he was finally caught. Kristen, check your skull. read more

Some pet owners bury their pets. Some have them cremated & returned to them in a tiny pine box. Not us. No, we found a great taxidermy artist. Our guinea pig, Michael died a month ago suddenly from ecoli in a bad bag of romaine lettuce. We grieved & were on our way to get him cremated at the vet when I suddenly stopped & said "NO, can we get him stuffed?!" Mike then searched online and found the best artist out of Fremont. Jeff called us tonight & told us he had finished our little guy. He looks amazing. He captured his expression whenever we would say "Ham", he'd perch up & yeep because "Ham" meant we would feed him more lettuce. Poor little guy died from what he loved most. I have used his services twice over the years and I am completely satisfied with his service. This last time was a big project. I had an antique Siberian Tiger Rug that was falling apart and some small parts missing. He formatted a plan to remove the felt backing and attach the hide directly to a wood board backing, this would eliminate the stress on the hide while it's on display. He did a great job of cutting the backing far enough back that it was out of view, painted black, it was perfect. Due to its age, it needed touch up on the head and some other areas on the body. When I got it back, it looked completely fresh, and vibrant. I'll try to post some pictures. Taxidermy is art when completed, and he is an artist. read more

Had a standing duck mount done from Geoff, he runs a unique and quiet operation , it very much looks like he has built quite the client base so no real need for a huge show room or anything since he seems to keep his shop full of work. My mount looks great and have had it for a few years now, form and quality is good and really shows the beauty of the animal. I do feel bad for the experience the previous reviewer had, and I can't share the same emotion since I've never been the recipient of that sort of service from Geoff, but I definitely wouldn't be happy. I plan on continuing my business with Geoff, his service is good, turnaround time is great, I've always had good (phone) communication with him and the prices are the best around. I'm sure you can pay a lot more for a higher quality product ( and I've compared my mount with other high priced mounts) , but for a good quality mount in my home, I couldn't really ask for more. I shot a trophy wild Boar with my son back in October of 2011, it was an experience of a lifetime for us. My son is 12 and this was the first large game experience so I decided to get out trophy mounted so he'd have it for a lifetime. It had been sometime since I had an animal mounted so I asked a trusted resource for a taxidermy recommendation and he said Geoff at Wildernes Taxidermy did good work. I contacted Geoff and made an appointment to take my Boar in. I followed his directions to a "T" and took my Boar to his shop in Fremont "frozen" and neatly wrapped in a plastic bag. Upon dropping off my Boar, Geoff opened the plastic bag and said this would be a fantastic Boar to have shoulder mounted. He said it'd be a 6 month process and he'd call once the Boar was done. Unfortunately, time went by and I never heard from Geoff. After months and months of delays, and multiple follow up calls, I finally got my Boar back but to my horror I discovered a 9 inch cut up the front of my Boar that DEFINITELY wasn't there when I dropped it off to Geoff. He had stichted it up and looked horrible. When I asked him about the damage he became very hostile and blamed me. He said I must've done it during the gutting process but I DEFINITELY didn't. As I said, this was an experience of a lifetime, so I have pictures of the Boar before, during and after the gutting and skinning process and there DEFINITELY isn't an cut up the front of the Boar. I've been hunting for nearing 30 years and I know how to gut and skin an animal that is going to be mounted. So, I would NEVER recommend Wilderness Taxidermy to anyone and that includes people I don't like. I was treated horribly and heard 30 years of excuses from Geoff. I hope you don't make the same mistake I made. read more

Geoff mounted a largemouth bass for me over 20 years ago. I caught the fish on the California Delta and when I got it back in a very reasonable amount of time, Geoff found a really nice piece of drift wood, artificial tules and an actual freeze dried crawfish to provide great looking scenery. The fish itself looks absolutely first rate. He talked me into a matte finish, as opposed to the high gloss I was asking for and the paint job is superb. He skin mounted the fish and then freeze dried it. Over 20 years later this is still one of the best looking bass mounts I've ever seen. Not a bit of skin shrinkage on the head area due to the fact he freeze dried it. I would not hesitate to have Geoff mount another fish for me. Thanks Geoff! read more

Just found my paid receipt again from over 8 years ago when I brought a rabbit down here to have it skinned, tanned and feet turned into keychains. I called several times to pick it up but no return calls. I finally got a hold of him and he said he had it and would ship it to me. But it never arrived and I contacted him again. This went on and on for a few years. Every time I was told that items would never be gotten rid of and that it would be shipped out, but it never was. Within three months in 2007 I lost my best friend, my father and my rabbit, so at some point your priorities shift from the $175 you paid for a rabbit hide, but I've never stopped thinking about it. and low and behold today in a stack of papers I found my paid invoice inv# 237 dated 7/2/07. About two years after I placed the order my contact info changed, but I called to update him and that was one of the several times he said he'd ship it. I guess it just wasn't meant to be, but It still bugs the crud out of me and my $175. read more

My cat of 17 years passed away recently. I always knew I wanted to get his hide tanned, but didnt know anyone who could do it. Then I found Geoff, and wilderness taxidermy. When I called and told Geoff that I wanted my cat tanned he told me to put him in the freezer right away, I did, and brought him to the shop a few days later. When I dropped my beloved cat off Geoff was very understanding, He took notes on what I wanted, and even told me he would take good care of him. This was so comforting. Geoff said he would be ready in about 3 months and that he would call when he was finished. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the call saying he was done early. When I picked him up he was beautiful. He turn out so much better then I ever expected! Geoff is truly talented at what he does! Had a 12inch tom turkey that i took to Geoff to be mounted lifesize flying to the left. I had high hopes for this wallhanger. He called to say it was done and when i got there I realized it wasnt my bird . He insisted he be payed on the spot and after a few tense minutes I payed up and took the bird . It had oily feathers, you could see the wires, bare spots on chest and white powder falling out of it ! And it only had a 9inch beard and mine was 12".I went straight to courthouse to file small claims case .Shortly after the court application I was contacted by "Christinas Court" a TV court show out of Houston Tex and asked if i wanted to argue the case on TV? I agreed and so did Geoff.The producers of the show had me find a shipper and they paid 1800$ to get the bird there by the next week. During the trial Geoff admitted he switched birds and I won the case . I would of thrown it in the garbage can had i lost. He said he would be proud to show it in his showroom and maybe its hanging in there .All in all it was fun fully paid trip to texas but I wouldnt recommend his shop at all . Sorry! read more
