Went for Mother's Day, made a reservation. Pretty busy, no surprise! We were seated as soon as we arrived and ordered drinks. They have a huge wine menu, but only a small portion of it is offered by the glass/litre. You'd have to order a whole bottle if you wanted something else. Pricing is about the same or slightly higher than the Keg. The service was excellent. The people helping the servers were so new, it was cute. They looked so nervous approaching tables to fill water glasses or clear plates. I had the Braised Short Rib, my Dad had the Sirloin Special that was piled with shrimp and my Nan went for the Tenderloin Fettucini. The rib was fantastic. They gave me a knife, but I didn't need it. Fell right off the bone. The garlic mashed potatoes were pretty good too. The shrimp on my Dad's steak were huge! Didn't expect that! Cooked to order. My Nan always gets pasta and she loved it. Lots of flavour with paprika. She said the tenderloin was really good and there was a lot of it. We were too full for dessert, but our server brought over a bite sized chocolate covered ice cream for each of us. A great spot for a special occasion! They mentioned that they have a lunch menu, but it looks a lot like the dinner menu. I don't know about you, but I'm not spending over $30 per plate at lunch.

So it was our anniversary and what a better way to celebrate than with some wine and steak . After driving by this place on many occasions, we finally decided to give this place a try. Reservations I called this place one week before to make reservations for two, and secured a spot on a Saturday night. Something told me to also confirm my reservation the day of, so I called to confirm and mysteriously they didn't have my reservation?!?! So I made another one the morning of, with a guy name Steve. So low and behold we get to the restaurant and it was packed, I confidently walked to the front told the hostess I have a reservation for 2 at 730pm, guess what???. They can't find it After explaining the situation, the hostess says " oh well sorry your going to have to wait for 40mins!!". I promptly asked to speak with the Manager, and we got seated right away!!! Not sure what all that was about but be aware of mysterious disappearing reservations. Service Our waitress was very pleasant and made us quickly forget about the debacle at the front. She made great recommendations and was very helpful. Food I had the 12oz ribeye, my wife had the grain fed veal chop, we also got the beef carpaccio as an appetizer. The food was really good!! My steak was cooked to perfection. The also gave us a complimentary cheesecake since it was our anniversary All in all a nice place for steak, it's kinda casual and laid back. I did like the decor, but found the main dining area very open and not cozy and intimate that I'm use to in most steak places. We did get seated at the back in a kinda private area so that was also a nice touch.

So gross! Wife and I ordered steaks and twice baked potatoes. Potato was obviously microwaved but was basically potato skin and cheese. Steaks were 1/4 inch thick, undercooked which was surprising for the size and chewy. Denny's serves a better steak dinner. I'd rather eat at Boston Pizza. We heard good things about this place but a few years ago. Times have definitely changed. No way this restaurant will last unless $ is being laundered through this joint. 3-4 tables out of 25 were occupied. Was dead and I understand why. Will never be going back. Oh and was $225.00 for a 2 person meal. No value here whatsoever. Background music was decent. 0/5 stars. Beware!

The food and service was beyond amazing! Was going to go to The Keg, however, being a party of 6, and forgetting to make reservations earlier, The Keg was not able to seat us before 8:15pm. Decided to give Wildfire a chance, and they did not disappoint! The steaks were amazing, I'd go as far as to say better than The Keg! The creme brûlée was amazing as well! The staff were very attentive, and even with a large party of 6, there was no "who ordered what" when our food arrived at the table! The atmosphere wasn't loud, the lighting was just perfect! The last time I was at The Keg, I literally had to use the flashlight on my iPhone to read the menu! Will definitely return to Wildfire before going back to The Keg!

Decent steak house in downtown Oshawa. The last time I was at this build it was a wings and ribs place that claimed to be the best in Durham... guess it wasn't and now this new steak place opened up. The setting was nice and fancy for a place in Oshawa. I tried their fixed price options, two course for $19.99. The appetizer was a Caesar salad, not your typical salad because they used a quarter of a romaine lettuce and grilled the bottom side. Very interesting present and taste good. The main was a steak sandwich with fries. Flavour was good but the piece of my steak was a little tough, not because it was over cooked but it was just the piece of meat. Overall good experience and would check it out again for a fancier restaurant.

10 oz. Bacon wrapped Fillet Mignon with quinoa and seasonal vegetables and truffle butter.

It's personal preference, I like my steak with just salt and pepper without sauce. My fault for not reading the menu correctly. The sides of purée and veggies were great. Overall KB hits it out of the ballpark and is so much better than the chain upscale eateries.

My friend -- a Christian, not even Jewish -- was meeting with a pastor for coffee. He was wearing an IDF jacket and a Star of David necklace while discussing a recent trip to Israel. No shouting. No confrontation. No disruption. Just coffee and conversation. An employee called Durham Regional Police. Officers showed up and told him his conversation was "offensive." When asked what was said that violated policy, no one could answer. No rule cited. No clear complaint identified. Just vague discomfort -- and removal. So what exactly triggered this escalation? Not behavior. Not threats. Not harassment. Symbols. And Israel. Calling the police on someone because others don't like what he's wearing or the country he's discussing is cowardly and discriminatory. Businesses don't get to selectively silence viewpoints they don't agree with. And weaponizing law enforcement to remove someone over perceived "offense" is an outrageous abuse of discretion. If Cork & Bean believes visible support for Israel warrants police involvement, they should say that publicly. If they don't, then they owe an immediate explanation and apology. Until management addresses this directly and transparently, this establishment does not deserve community support. Do better.

We decided to find a cafe and casually open our presents there. We both yanked out Google Maps on our phones. She had mentioned that she had been to a Cork & Bean in Peterborough and and liked it. I trusted her judgment and said yes. I indicated that we needed to go up and hang a left. She felt that it was the other way around -- down and hang a right. When it comes to directions, she has the better track record since we've known each other. However, she realized that she had read the map wrong and I was correct. It felt like a small triumph, but I'm not the type to rub it in. I'm not horrible at directions. She is better at it. We walked over to this cafe. It may have taken three minutes. We had to wait for the light to change, so we could have done it in two minutes. This cafe had all the windows and doors wide open. We walked in and found a table to plop our stuff down. We then headed over to the counter to check out what we'd like to drink. My friend ordered an iced coffee with oat beverage. We both liked that there were dairy alternatives. She's vegan. I'd prefer to go lactose-free. I saw a sign that said that there were seasonal flavours. I asked the helpful man at the counter if it applied to iced coffee. Yes, it did. He could make any drink seasonal. Nice! I got a large iced peppermint latte with oat beverage. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and tipped. All was great. My friend got her drink first. Moments later, mine was ready. I thanked the man and headed back to our table to join my friend. There was live music at this cafe. We were here on a Saturday evening. Jordins ID (no apostrophe to indicate possession, which seemed odd) was playing. She was great. It was nice to have her in the background as we chatted. My drink was awesome. It was cold. I liked the peppermint with the coffee. It worked out nicely. A customer had brought his dog in. This cafe is obviously pet-friendly. It was nice seeing other customers ask if they could pet the dog. The owner was nice and said yes. The dog seemed to enjoy the affection and attention. We had a nice time chatting a bunch more and opening our presents. It was the perfect place for what we wanted to do. The menu also has beer, cocktails, and more. I saw a bunch of desserts in the display case. Since we had already had dessert with our dinner, we skipped getting any food. This cafe is in downtown Oshawa. It's free street parking on weekends. I enjoyed hanging out at this cafe. It's a nice place to grab a drink and chat, while taking in some local, live music. It was perfect. (341)

We eventually found it. Upon arrival, the door swung open and struck a seated guest -- a sign of just how small the space is. The restaurant was full except for one four-top (clearly ours), and we stood awkwardly in the entrance -- which is essentially inside the dining room -- waiting to be acknowledged. When greeted, we were asked if we had a reservation. We said yes. "Table for eight?" we were asked, which felt impossible given the size of the room. We clarified four, and were pointed to the only open table. No name was requested; we realistically could have just walked in and taken it. The space is starkly lit with aggressive bright white lighting that feels more clinical than cozy. The artwork is interesting and gives a gallery-like feel -- it seems the restaurant is aiming for a downtown Toronto wine bar aesthetic, but it doesn't quite land. Our table was missing water glasses, and the stemware was mismatched -- not in an intentional, charming way, but more in a "we ran out" way. Once seated, we weren't acknowledged or offered water for nearly 20 minutes. Not rushing guests is one thing; leaving them feeling forgotten is another. When our server finally arrived, the service set the tone for the evening. One glass of water was poured before he realized another was missing. He disappeared, returned with a glass, inspected it mid-pour, then walked away again (dirty glass). After several more trips and long gaps, everyone eventually received water -- about 15 minutes later. He was polite and friendly, just clearly untrained. He shared that the owner is also the sommelier, cook, and server, and that he liked working there because he wasn't expected to know much about wine -- an interesting admission for a wine bar. The owner greeted us warmly but asked only one guest about wine preferences -- ironically the only non-wine drinker at the table. The concept appeared to be sommelier-led, though this was never explained. If that is the intention, engaging the entire table is essential. That said, the wines themselves were enjoyable; the service surrounding them was not. The Taste of Oakville menu promised three curated 3-oz pours paired with a charcuterie board for two. The pours arrived unevenly and slowly, with little explanation of the pairings. The charcuterie boards were plain and inconsistent between tables despite containing similar items -- basic fruit, crostini, simple cured meats, small portions of brie, and two slices of truffle cheese. No crackers, spreads, or thoughtful touches elevated the experience, and presentation varied noticeably. Our second wine pour didn't arrive until our mains, and service moved so slowly we requested a wine list to order a bottle. We were told there is no wine list -- "we're not that kind of restaurant." Instead, all reds are $80 and all whites $70, and the owner selects the bottle for you after asking only red or white. The concept might work if explained upfront; without context, it was confusing. At one point, noticing my empty glass, our server poured me a random red -- which turned out to be the same wine as our first pour -- and then left without serving anyone else. We had to remind staff we were still waiting for our second curated pour. Nothing about the experience felt curated. The most surprising moment of the night came when our mains arrived. As we lifted our appetizer plates -- still holding olive pits, fruit rinds, and crumbs -- the servers told us not to worry about clearing them and proceeded to place our main dishes directly on top of the used plates. I'm still shocked. I wouldn't do that at home, let alone expect it at a Lakeshore, or quite frankly, any restaurant. Two of us ordered the tagliatelle, which was tasty but contained only two small pieces of short rib -- and was difficult to enjoy while staring at discarded rinds beneath the plate. The other two ordered brisket sliders: two sliders, no sides. They tasted good but left diners hungry. One guest joked they kept thinking the fruit rinds were fries -- unfortunately accurate. We tried to make the best of the evening, but it never delivered the cozy wine-and-charcuterie experience we had anticipated -- dim lighting, thoughtful pairings, something special. After finishing our meal, we requested our bills and reminded staff we were still waiting for the third curated pour. We were told "five minutes." Those five minutes never came. Eventually, wanting simply to leave, we paid a single combined bill and sorted it out ourselves. Dinner for four totaled $460. This was not the boutique Lakeshore dining experience we expected, and ultimately, it was deeply disappointing.

Besides the pleasant atmosphere, Apogee has a beautifully appointed interior space, clean bathrooms, and a menu with cheese plates, cake, and more wines than you could taste in a summer. As a special events venue, Apogee was flexible with outside food and also with decorations. There was no additional venue rental/site fee, just a minimum spend amount (which we were confident that we would exceed). The venue is cozy and intimate, but has high ceilings so it did not feel claustrophobic at all, even with 30+ guests at one point. I'm a wine snob myself, so I was a bit skeptical initially when I saw their wine list. Most of the wines they serve retail for $10-20. They do have some bottles that are more expensive (retail ~$30). However, after tasting some of their entry level wines (Ancient Peaks Zinfandel & Gouguenheim Malbec), my worries vanished. Everything I tasted was excellent and drank better than their actual price point. Steve was a great host. He was laid back, but still friendly and attentive to all of our guests. He made sure everybody's drink needs were satisfied. He was also flexible with letting us in the venue early to set up and also staying late to clean up. I also liked the fact that they allowed us to bring our own wine, for a $15 per bottle corkage fee, which is fair. Anyways, Apogee is a great venue for a small party. They are flexible and reasonable. I would definitely recommend them as a wine bar and for hosting a private event (especially on a Sunday).

I let her know that I had a weird food suggestion. I asked her if she'd like to go to The Keg. I saw a veggie shepherd's pie on the menu. I was intrigued. My friend is vegan. I'm suggesting that we go to a steakhouse. Luckily, she said yes. I did a search. I found this one in Oshawa, which is roughly midway between Peterborough and Markham. We met last Friday at around 6:15 pm. It's a part of Oshawa Centre, but on its own structure-wise, away from the physical mall, across from Shoppers Drug Mart and Hudson's Bay. I rarely go out on Friday nights. I didn't look to see whether we could do a reservation. Instead, we just showed up to try our luck. I parked somewhat close to the main entrance. My friend arrived ten minutes later. We met up and walked in. We approached the reception area. I asked for a table for two. The woman said that seating at the bar would take 40 minutes. It would be a 1.5-hour wait for one in the dining room. We went with the former. I left my name with the woman. She asked whether we were going to wait inside or outside. We went with the former. I got a buzzer. I liked the strawberry-cucumber-infused water in front of us. I should have got a glass, but we were talking so much that it didn't cross my mind. I don't think we waited 40 minutes. I saw the buzzer go crazy with lights. The female host grabbed the buzzer from me and led us to the bar. Service was excellent. We had the best female server who was attentive and friendly. We got the following items: - Sourdough bread (complimentary) - Tropical spritz (non-alcoholic) - Diet Pepsi (me) - Onion rings - Veggie shepherd's pie - Mini crème brûlée We got water to start. Considering how much we were talking and catching up, it was needed! We both ordered the tropical spritz. It had alcohol-free pineapple liqueur, passion fruit, non-alcoholic sparkling wine, soda, and a charred pineapple on top. This drink was delicious and so refreshing. The charred pineapple was yummy. I wanted everything, but in a larger size. I ended up getting a diet Pepsi. I needed another cold, refreshing drink, but cheaper. This one hit the spot. My friend was hungry and had a hankering for onion rings. We got some as a starter. They were crispy on the outside. The onion rings were sweet. It came with a mayo dip. My friend got ketchup. Both condiments were perfect. Our shepherd's pie came out next. It came with a large mixed greens salad. This meal was divine. The shepherd's pie had lentils and lots of veggies. The gravy was yummy. I actually used the sourdough bread to it up. The mashed potatoes were perfect on top. I loved the mixed greens salad. Everything was crisp and fresh. The dressing was bright. The salad had pickled the onions. If they were sliced thinner, I would have enjoyed them more. The larger pickled onions still had that raw burn to them. Although we dined in the bar, we could still hear each other. It was great. The downside was that we were at a long table. A group of five folks sat on the opposite end and made the table rock as if were were on turbulent waters. I ended up shaking the table, which caught their attention to not do what they did. I shouldn't feel seasick eating at a table when I'm not on water. Sheesh! I felt like dessert and got a mini crème brûlée. It was the perfect portion. I wanted a bit of dessert. I got it here. I liked the contrast between the crispy sugary top part of the dessert that was fun to shatter, with the creamy custard layer underneath it. The orange slice was the perfect ending to my meal. We split the onion rings. It was cool not paying taxes for this meal. I wish it were the case all the time! We had belated Christmas presents to unwrap. It was funny that both the server and the manager asked if was a special occasion. We said no. Meanwhile, we had these gift bags for each other... haha! We spent almost three hours at this eatery. We used the washroom before we headed to our vehicles. The women's washroom is by the wine display. The washroom looked modern. The stall that I used was clean. I liked that there was a hook for my gift bag. There was plenty of parking at this eatery. I'm so glad that we met up here. It has vegan and vegetarian options. It was my first time not ordering a steak at The Keg. It was cool. The food and drinks were yummy and I had the best company with me. (56)
