For my 100th review, I got to experience Alice Bar for the first time and it was great! We ordered the Tomahawk for 2 with extra sides like the Corn Ribs, Fries, Mozzarella sticks, and a Caesar salad. Everything tasted so good and we ordered the steak to be made medium rare (felt more on the medium side) - the steak was still tender and juicy luckily. We chose to sit in their patio area and it was very nice but we soon got kind of annoyed once the bugs (wasp, bees, ants) started showing up. Our server was great in the beginning but then kind of forgot about us near the end and we were waiting a while to pay our bill. Not sure if it had to do with us sitting out at the patio. Overall, I think it is worth coming to check it out and enjoy their Happy Hour specials at least once. read more

Wonderful resto on College west of Bathurst. Intimate spot with great Happy Hour from 4-6:30 pm daily. Great deal on Steak Frites ($19.99) during Happy Hour plus on Tuesdays & Wednesdays they have half price bottles of wine. Service was friendly, personable and knowledgeable. Came for the $20 happy hour steak frites! Not terrible for $20, but overall not great food: The fries were okay but the steaks were chewy and not cooked to the correct doneness. I ordered a rare which came out medium rare, and my friend ordered a medium rare and her steak came out well done. When the restaurant remade it, it came out rare the second time. The chimichurri sauce was nice though. The salmon tartar was veryyy unimpressive. The only redeeming food was the pistachio gelato at the end! Super refreshing and had a nice balance of flavours and textures. Drinks were good. But priced at around $20 dollars for cocktails. Ambiance of the place was really nice on a Thursday evening. I came to Alice as part of a group dinner, so I didn't end up paying, but overall I wasn't especially impressed. It felt like one of those situations where this spot was chosen mainly because it could accommodate a larger group when other reservations were hard to come by. The space itself is cute, but it's quite dark, and with the long, narrow layout it ended up feeling a bit cramped and slightly dingy, especially with eight of us at one table. That said, the restaurant was almost empty for most of the night. We were one of only two tables there, which at least made it easy to have conversations without too much noise. We ordered a bunch of shareables for the table including calamari, street corn ribs, broccolini, truffle parm fries, garlic mashed potatoes, and a tomahawk steak. I also had the Caesar salad and the truffled mushroom mafalde. Most of the share plates were fine but forgettable. The garlic mashed potatoes, steak, and calamari were all decent, but nothing stood out. The corn ribs were the clear highlight and genuinely delicious. The broccolini tasted good but the portion was quite small. The biggest letdown for me was the mafalde. In a city where Gusto has set the bar for this pasta, this version really fell short. It was bland, and no amount of truffle slices could save it. While the portion was larger than Gusto's, it still didn't come close to justifying the nearly $30 price tag. Overall, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return. It's not bad, but it's really not that memorable of a restaurant. If you live nearby, it might be a convenient neighbourhood option, but it's not a place I'd actively seek out again. read more

Dined here for Valentines Day and they had a $80 Prix Fixe Menu which we didn't know until we got there. Started off with a caesar salad and corn ribs. Absolutely enjoyed the corn the most, it was a flavorful appetizer that included parmesan, spicy aioli, tajin, and chives. For mains I got their Japanese Kobe Burger along with a ton of fries on the side and aioli dip. For dessert I got their New York Style cheesecake and it was divine. It was still warm and perfect dessert to end the meal! But, I do not think it was well worth the $80. I really enjoyed my time at this restaurant- both food and service wise. Our server was a lively and lovely guy. I asked for a mocktail and he just whipped up something delicious! Our group shared the meal so we ordered the steak platter for 2 (came with fries, roasted corn ribs with parmigiana, and Caesar salad); broccolini with sautéed shallots ; and salmon tartare . The steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the corn ribs doused in parmigiana cheese was a hit! The broccolini was the perfect veggie to cut through the meats; the salmon tartare was the freshness the night needed We were told the upstairs patio would be opening soon and they would have music nights shortly. A hidden gem! I was able to try a couple things on the menu, and I can't wait to go back to try more! I came in a party of two and our meal started with the corn ribs appetizer, which were super flavorful and satisfying, albeit a bit tricky to eat. We then moved onto a ravioli dish, as well as the happy hour-steak frites, which were both amazing! The pasta sauce on that ravioli dish is the perfect amount of creaminess and spice. I would return just for that pasta! The steak frites were very satisfying, and very good value during happy hour! The restaurant itself is warm and comforting, and the waitstaff are very attentive. Corn ribs were excellent, service was very good, and the steak frites and rigatoni were good as well. The corn ribs were very messy to eat, so offering wet naps would be a nice touch. The bathrooms were clean, but I did notice that there was no toilet paper in the stall that I used. Also, there were no paper towels to dry my hand , so care in this area would be appreciated. I don't want to give a 5 star review too easily, but after two visits here, I can only be honest and award it 5 stars since that's the way I feel. Both of my visits had the steak platter for 2. The difference being one time was the Tomahawk, and the other was the more conventional steak. Naturally the Tomahawk was a better cut and offered more steak, but regardless, I enjoyed it both times. Terrific cuts of meat and about the best it's been cooked anywhere. They get a nice deep char on the steak whilst still ensuring to cook it the temperature you asked for. And they did that perfectly. I loved it with the chimichurri that accompanied it. The corn ribs are a hit here for a reason. I'm not sure if they came up for it, but it's really an ingenious way to prepare and serve corn. And not just for fun, but it really allows for a perfect char throughout and an easier way to eat it off of the cob. The fries and salad were straightforward, but no complaints either. On another visit, I did try some appetizers as well and recall that the salmon tartare was just about perfect as well. I'm a fan for sure. read more

They got my order wrong, ordered tomahawk for 2 as opposed but got the tomahawk platter for 2. After notifying the waitress we were only charged for the tomahawk for 2. Then the mozzarella sticks our friend ordered came cold inside, after getting a replacement, it was still cold. Ultimately they cancelled the order and got an explanation, but was hoping for apology sticks. Tomahawk steak - was cooked medium (no choice) and pre-cut. Steak came with chimichurri and mayo. Steak was okay, but underseasoned. The chimichurri was savory so kinda saved the steak. Not sure if I liked mayo on the steak... Fries were fried well and came with ketchup and mayo, really good. Mozzarella sticks were a bit underwhelming, no cheese pull, batter on the outside was thick and overseasoned. Corn ribs were fun and saucy. However, I do think they could pay a little more attention to detail. This may seem like a surprising thing to recommend at a restaurant like this, but the hamburger was superb. It somehow runs the very fine line between the comfort and deliciousness of fast food, and a restaurant meal worth paying for on a night out. The true proof of deliciousness, is that this is the very first experience I've ever had where my daughter has eaten her entire meal, with not a single complaint, not a single note, and no struggling to get through it all. It was incredible how many delicious fries came along with the burger as well. I would return here just to get a whole bunch of burgers with my family in the future. The $19 steak frites (during happy hour) were the main feature that was so attractive to us and did not disappoint. Separate from that we had the mom's spaghetti which although a large portion, was unfortunately a bit bland. Our dessert too, the molten chocolate lava cake, did not molten. So strike off two for the mom's spaghetti and molten lava cake. Despite this, the rest of the dishes were heavy hitters in terms of flavor. Best picks: - Street corn ribs - these should be heavily featured as they're amazing! - Beef Tartare - seasoned beautifully and a decent second place fav - Mozarella sticks - not just cheese sticks but deep fried triangles almost like a stuffed hashbrown. As soon as I walked through the doors, the ambiance, lighting and atmosphere felt warm and chic - a perfect place for a night out! I got the mom's spaghetti - a classic but tasted so good! The portion size was larger than expected. I got the chance to try the rigatoni and the sweet corn ribs too! I found those to be my favourite. I'm not usually a corn person, but the sauces and flavouring that came with the corn made me crave more. The staff was super friendly, always checking in on us to make sure everything was to tasting. Cute place on College west. Popular date spot but I went with some old friends. Service was good and menu was simple but sufficiently varied. We all ended up ordering steak in different forms. I was very happy with my NY strip selection. It was one of the better steaks I've had in a long while - nicely charred but medium rare within, tender, juicy, and served with a perfectly piquant chimichurri sauce. Never got to try the food. Went with my wife on a Saturday evening. Small restaurant but two tables of 5 people near us were so loud we couldn't hear ourselves think. Thee is an upstairs but at my age too steep for me. We had to cancel our order and leave. what an unfortunate experience in my neighbourhood. i ventured in on a Sunday, just after opening and politely requested a booth seat to sit and read while enjoying my dinner. i was told i could not sit there even though i told the server I would be out in an hour. Despite the fact there was only one other table for two in the entire place, i was never brought a menu or offered a drink. Another table arrived and were promotly brought menus and drinks. After comtinued server absence, i collected my belongings to leave and at no point did the server further engage. i told her I was leaving. The final insult was her eye roll and " dont care face" . Considering the few number of patrons when we were in it was very very noisy and tough to enjoy your meal or even talk to your dinner companion while you wait for food. When the food came it got worse for our evening. I had the spaghetti and it was terrible. Pasta was not al dente, very overcooked. The sauce was very metallic tasting and bland. It honestly kind of tasted like a frozen tv dinner youd get from Loblaws or M&M's. The burger was also dreadful. The meat bland and underseasoned, almost had the hint of freezer burn to it. The bun tasted like it had been sitting in a fridge for a prolonged period of time and was not fresh. Pretty cheap prices but it's because the food quality is low and poorly cooked.
