Ordered a rushton burger and lamb chops for delivery. The burger was nice and thick, however by the time it got to my house the bottom bun was super soggy :( toppings were okay but I found it overall too dry and had to add some ketchup. We went to dinner at The Rushton last night, a restaurant we used to genuinely enjoy and frequent because we live around the corner. Unfortunately, the entire experience was absolutely terrible and incredibly disappointing. Our waitress -- a blonde woman with tattoos -- was pleasant at the beginning, but after taking our drink and appetizer order, she completely forgot about us. At one point, she even came back and asked if we wanted coffee and dessert before we had even received our main course. For a long stretch of time we had no cutlery, empty drinks, and were trying to order another cocktail, but every time she came to the table beside us, she completely ignored us. Eventually, I had to ask the bus boy to help us because our server had essentially disappeared. Ironically, he provided more service than our actual waitress did, and we ended up tipping him $20 because he was the only one helping us. I eventually had to go to the host stand myself just to ask where our food was. Our waitress later admitted she was "too busy inside the restaurant" to properly serve the patio tables outside. Eventually the manager brought our food and apologized for the delay, but that was it. Our waitress never once apologized for the experience or acknowledged how poor the service had been. To make matters worse, the food itself was awful. The shrimp were rubbery, bland, and had no flavour whatsoever. What made the entire experience even more frustrating was that our bill still came to $124 for what was honestly some of the worst service we have experienced in a very long time. We genuinely felt like we were inconveniencing the staff simply by being there. We are honestly shocked at how far this place has gone downhill. We loved having a neighbourhood spot like this, but after this experience, we will never return. read more

Had a nice dinner here! Started with the French onion soup which was really nice and so hot. It stayed steamy the entire time I ate it which was great! I ordered the warm mushroom salad and added steak to it. The salad was really good but a little heavy on the dressing. The steak came out under what I'd asked for but our server was great and they quickly threw it back on to cook a bit more. He also came back to make sure it was cooked to my liking which I appreciated. I went with a family member who order the special, a ribeye with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and a Gorgonzola sauce. It was very good! Good portion size as well! Only complaint was they had a lot of flies. It's summer though. read more

I have been to The Rushton many times and overall the food is solid and the prices are very reasonable, which is hard to find in the city these days. If you want a reasonably priced steak frites, this is a great option. Also highly recommend the French onion soup. The mussels are also very good. As someone who likes an espresso after a meal, the coffee here is excellent. The pasta isn't very good but it's more of a French restaurant so wasn't expecting it to blow me away. The service is not consistent. Some servers are pretty good and some are not good. I've had servers mess up my order a few times, nothing major, just things like bringing me regular fries instead of sweet potato, or forgetting the side salad I ordered. However this was only two or three times and the other times went much more smoothly. The ambiance is okay, the patio when the weather is nice is much better than inside. Inside is a little loud and crowded if you go on a peak night. They leave the windows open in the summer and flies come in sometimes which is disruptive to your meal. On the patio they have heat lamps to take it into spring and fall as well, but I find they sometimes forget to turn them on/off in the in between periods and sometimes it's too hot or cold there. There is also on occasion a mess left on the ground by children dropping food which doesn't get cleaned up fast enough. This causes pigeons sometimes to start coming in and bothering tables. I haven't had this issue at other restaurants but they claim there is nothing they can do about it and did not offer anything to try to make the experience better for us. Anyways, I still think it's worth a try if you're in the area but it's not a place I would make a special trip for, as there are much better experiences in the city. read more

Came here for a quick dinner - they have a nice vibe and patio but I thought the rest was a bit lacking. We tried the steak frites, grilled calamari, mushroom salad, beef sliders. The food overall was pretty average across the board, the sliders and fries were pretty good, but the rest was neither good nor bad in my opinion. Also it took well over 30 minutes for any food to come out. Overall I probably wouldn't come back but it was worth trying. read more

A great patio and delicious food can be found here! Food I've had that is delicious: The burger is huge and juice. The lamb chops are always cooked to perfect, and I love that you can order them individually. The fish tacos are great, and I love their fries. For dessert, the black rice pudding is a must! The rose sangria is tasty and has bourbon in it. It only comes in pitchers though, and I don't find it to be very strong. It's a gastopub, so the prices are a bit higher than a regular pub, but the food is quality. read more

Heard later from partner who was sitting closer to the kitchen that she was yelling at the kitchen staff. I could not hear her yelling as the music was so loud, I could not hear my friend talking across from me. Really disappointing as we went for a friends birthday and the food had been good on previous visits. The redhead set me off when we got there and she was kinda in a huff slamming things around. Solid brunch place. Nice patio, decent food, a killer French 75, they don't even mind having a gaggle of kids running around. Not my kids of course, they're perfectly behaved ;-) I've also been here for dinner and they made a really serviceable turkey burger and frites. Came here on Sunday June 7th, 2024. $350 bill for 5 people (one kid included). 3 of us ordered steak frites. The only good thing I can say about it was the steak, but fries were not good, they give you a little plastic cup of mayo, not even a proper sauce. Then ordered a margarita and you can taste the juice of a Dollarama bottle of lime in there. Not even fresh juice. Had dinner at TheRushton with 6 friends. All ordered soup/salad & entree. Stayed about 2 hours. Food: I ordered Salmon. It was really bad. It came as a dry cut of salmon on asparagus and a bed of rice. Not only was the salmon dry and close to inedible but the asparagus was over cooked and mushy. My wife ordered chicken parmigiana. It was no better than a parmigiana that she would have ordered at some Pizza chain restaurant. The only decent dish was the warm mushroom salad. It had a good variety of well cooked wild mushrooms. Service: The service started well with an attentive server getting drinks for the table and taking food orders. But, the food came out at different times. 4 plates came together. Then 5 minutes later a mushroom ravioli came out. Then about 5 minutes after that the chicken parm. My wife had to tell everyone to start on their meal while she waited for hers. As a result most of the table finished well ahead of the chicken parm order so we talked while my wife ate. Price performance: at $130 for two, this was a very poor price performer. We could have had an equivalent or better meal for half the price in a nondescript chain restaurant. Overall: Not recommended. There are many goods restaurant choices along St. Clair. Beautiful atmosphere, but it's all an illusion. Last time I went I got food poisoning from the fish fry, but since my parents and I live close by, we decided to give it one last try. First off, the place is fly infested. They clearly have a sewage/sanitary problem. They were flying everywhere all over us, sitting on paintings above us and all over our meals tonight. I ordered the Mac and cheese and it tasted like someone put way too much cheese on top of a pasta and microwaved it. My moms fried shrimp was dry and flavourless. They undercooked my dads steak and he's currently frying his left overs on the stove.. partially to avoid getting sick and partially to feel better about having to pay an insanely overpriced bill for an experience straight out of Kitchen Nightmares. Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place is not worth your time or money. read more

The Rushton was very busy when we went. Service was extremely slow. We waited close to 15 minutes to order drinks and then another 15 to 20 minutes to order our food. It then took an hour for an appetizer salad to arrive at which time 2 drinks still hadn't arrived. Main courses did arrive after the appetizer salad. 3 of us had the fish fry and the fourth had the burger. Food was hot and tasty. The fish was moist and was not dripping in oil nor did it leave a bad aftertaste like you sometimes get with fried fish. The person who had the burger said it was very tasty and juicy. When it came time to pay that took over 15 minutes to get our bills. What I didn't like is that their credit card machine did not allow you to enter a tip amount. You could only use one of their predefined percentage amounts or enter your own percentage. This method takes the tip percentage amount on the total amount of the bill including tax which is wrong. The gratuity should be based on the amount actually spent at the restaurant and that is the amount before tax. The server also apologized for the slow service saying it was really busy and they were short staffed. read more

Our department had a work lunch there today. There were 17 of us and we were lucky enough to sit on the patio. We had a set menu but there was still enough to choose from. I started with a salad ... it was nice and fresh. I had steak and roasted potatoes as my main (I substituted the roasted potatoes for fries) ... it was good but I found the serving small. For dessert, I had a chocolate and raspberry tartufo which was good. The patio would be nice to people-watch with a glass of wine. read more

After reading through all the very mixed reviews on this place I wasn't sure what to expect. Turns out I had a lot of similar experiences with both the positive and negative reviews. Firstly the ambiance is really nice, situated on St.Clair, this restaurant has a fabulous patio and if you're sitting inside, the windows are huge and perfect for people-watching. The restaurant is really nice looking, it's modern and trendy mixed with classic accents and great for a casual dinner. We arrived a little after 7pm and we were seated immediately, everything on the menu looks really good so I had a hard time choosing, they also have daily specials which made it even more difficult to choose. I settled on a soup of the day which was a cold potato leek soup and then for my entree I had the turkey burger which comes with sweet potato fries. This far into our experience was excellent but this is also where it goes a bit sour. After around 20-25 minutes, our appetizers come out, everyone seemed to enjoy their food, I noticed how big the portions too. After we finished the appetizers we waited almost an hour for our mains to come out. We asked the waitress about the wait, and she gave the excuse that the patio is packed so the kitchen is really busy. I was a bit off-put by this response, there was no real apology and when we noted that a table that had been seated after us had gotten their food first, she said "well they didn't have appetizers". It was a bit souring but finally after the long wait the food came and I have to say I don't think it was really worth the wait. There was nothing particularly bad about the food, the turkey burger was fine, however it had no sauce or anything special about it. It was simply a turkey patty with lettuce, tomato and onion. I used some of the aioli that came with my fries to add to the burger which made it more interesting. The fries were good and crispy although a bit salty for my liking. I tried the pasta with bolognese sauce and that was pretty good, it came piping hot and it was a good portion. Another thing I enjoyed was the bread with the lentil hummus, the bread was warm and I loved the hummus dip that comes with it. All-in-all, I didn't hate it but I probably wouldn't come rushing back, especially not during patio season. I would like to try some of the other food though, their menu is really appealing and I think there's something for everyone and the price point is very decent for this part of town! read more

I have been going to the Ruston with family and friends for years and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is always relaxing with a wonderful patio in the summer that reminds me of the Mediterranean. The staff and owner are always friendly and helpful. They have a great summer patio on quiet side street just off of St.Clair, the service has always been excellent but you may have a bit of a wait if you arrive after 6:15. The food is quite good but it won't blow your mind like some other restaurants in the area though I do enjoy their fish. You know, i enjoy the food here, but the service here is awful. We've been 4 or 5 times and pretty much every time we're there the wait-staff treat us like we're lucky to have the opportunity to eat their food. Wife ordered fries with her sandwich, they were not delivered with the meal, presumably forgotten until she reminded them. Once they were ready and placed by the cook in the pass, they sat there another 10 minutes while the two waiters in the nearly empty restaurant stared at their phones, it took going to get the plate ourselves (which was met with a scolding and a scowl) to have it delivered. read more

We are locals in the area and we recently went to the Rushton for our first dinner out. I was so disappointed with the experience, I tried to reach out but no one has returned my call, and they only accept messages by Instagram (no email), so I am forced to air my grievances on here. As per the website they claim to be following all COVID-!9 protocols, masks are required when entering the building to use the bathroom, that however is only true if you are NOT "Best friends with the owner". A group of "friends" sat at a table near the rear entrance and walked in and out over an over with no masks on, getting their own drinks from the bar and walking around and taking chairs and chatting with other patrons at other tables. They also leaned in over the barrier and spoke over patrons to yell at their other friends throughout the night. Not only was this completely against all protocols, but the staff just allowed it to happen, they said and did nothing as these were "friends of the house". When we asked the server we were told "not much we can do, they are best friends with the owners". Unfortunately as all other patrons are clearly not valued and the rules are absolutely NOT being followed, we will not be returning and will be happy to support other restaurants in the area instead. read more

It's a great cozy place, amazing location, AWESOME staff but it's too pricy.... MASSIVE tequila shots. Biggest shots i have ever seen in my life. You could probably use that shot glass as a tiny vase :S. We had the sangria, white wine. Highly highly recommended - it was friggin delicious!!!!! The calamari we had were in some kind of sweet and spicy chili sauce, i didn't like the sauce at all. It made the calamari soggy and it was so overpowering. Should have just gotten the regular deep fried ones :(. I wouldn't come here again unless it was the only place close enough to the salsa stage and it was raining. read more

Dropped into The Rushton patio on a sunny evening a couple of days ago. We ordered the warm mushroom salad which was oily and tasteless; very disappointing. We were looking forward to the Seafood Linguini, in the menu with either a Marinara or White cream sauce... it came with neither, but a watery wine sauce. Generally quite bland; the calamari rings severely over cooked and inedible, mussels tiny, dry and also overcooked. The few shrimp were good and the only highlight were the tender scallops. We ordered the Pecan tart for desert a la mode. It arrived with a dark drizzle over top, naturally assumed to be chocolate. Shocked to discover it was balsamic vinegar!! At least my single espresso was faultless. Time to look for a new chef! read more

I went to the Rushton with 2 friends on a Saturday night for a girl's night. I called ahead but was told they don't take reservations! Luckily we arrived at 7 pm and there was one table left in the entire restaurant. About half an hour later the bar was packed with people waiting for tables. First impressions- The ambiance was nice and the lights were set at the perfect level. LOVED the red curtain you have to walk into the enter the restaurant. It was super crowded! The tables are so close together I was worried that it would be awkward. Aside from a couple beside us who would not stop staring, I didn't really mind the crowd after a while, it was nice that we felt surrounded by people but were kind of in our own world. We were so-so on our waitress. She was very knowledgeable about the dishes, but brought us the wrong bottle of wine. I will admit that we didn't catch it right away and we let her open it, so we were partially to blame, but nonetheless it was nowhere near the wine we had ordered so we wondered if she had paid attention at all to our request? It was a bit pricier that the original bottle and she was nice enough to give it to us at the cheaper price as long as we kept it our little secret (woops... not so much of a secret now i guess). One of my friends finished her dish, to which our server commented "WOW I can't believed you finished the whole thing, it's HUGE!" Yikes. That is definitely something you should never say to a female guest. We all had a laugh over it but i think my friend might have been a tad offended. All this being said, the food was AMAZING. We split the Rushton Salad - great as long as you like blue cheese and bitter greens- and an order of coconut shrimp - pretty average but we loved the asian style slaw that it came served on. One friend had the Lobster Linguini, which came with a pesto sauce, I got to try it and it was really tasty. My other friend and I each got the NY steak served with a green pea risotto and sauteed kale, which unfortunately is not on their menu but being served as a feature for the evening. The steak was cooked perfectly, so tender and juicy, and the risotto Ah! the RISOTTO! I dreamt about it weeks later. We split the Rushton Trio for dessert, a plate consisting of a mini slice of pecan pie (AH-mazing) of chocolate truffle cake (also fab) and of cheesecake (my least favourite but still tasty) The manager came to our table a couple of times to pour our wine and to introduce himself, it made us feel super welcome. All in all, we had a great night. I highly recommend this place to all my friends and I can't wait to go back and try out more items from their menu. read more

I love this place and have been a fan for as long as I've known about its existence. My last visit was last Saturday evening, and I went with my son, who is six. I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon for him and got the grilled octopus for myself. The food took a while to come out, but I would gladly wait triple the time for the deliciousness that ensued. I'm still fantasizing about those tender tentacles.. *sigh* Previously, I've had their mussels and sliders as well as the crème brulée trio and I can't think of one negative thing to say. They are very reasonably priced and the ambience there is just fantastic - whether you are seated in the patio or indoors (they have beautiful paintings up right now). Every time I've been here in the last couple years there's something with the service: The last time I didn't get utensils and no waiter walked by for about 10 minutes. Pasta was cold by the time I got a fork. The kid didn't care. Another time, the restaurant was EMPTY, the waiter was chatting at the bar, and we didn't get a menu or waters for 25 minutes (!!!). Then he asked 3 times if he could clear the plates WHILE I WAS STILL EATING. Another time, 3 different waiters came to our table to take our order, confused about who's doing what. I've had a reservation and waited at the entrance for 10 min before one of the waiters made eye contact. And, cherry on top, I hear the owner be a jerk in the alleyway behind the restaurant, always nasty to someone. My friend recently went and had a woman waitress and she said the service was fine. This is an experience with this restaurant I have never had or heard of in my life. We were planning to have a party with coworkers on their pre-fixe menu, and everything was arranged via email communication. For different reasons not everyone could make it so we let the restaurant know about it in advance. When it was time to pay, they said we had to pay for those who did not show up as well. Not a single time had they mentioned in our email exchange that if somebody does not come, then the others pay for this person. If it had been the case, we would just have cancelled. So each of us ended up paying $126.00 for a salad and main dish! You can imagine what we felt after this party. Well, life goes on, but would we ever go to that restaurant again!? read more

The wait staff make you feel as though you should consider yourself lucky that they speak to you at all for example, everyone at my table recieved their food and I recieved part of mine, I was waiting on my French fries that I could see sitting on the counter after 5 minutes I asked if I could have my fries to go with the rest of my food and the waiter looked irritated that I asked and proceeded to do whatever it was he was doing and did not go get my fries. These past few visits makes me not want to return even though the food is good. Its unfortunate. I've been here a few times, had the steak and frites twice and the club sandwich once, also tried the creme brulee, the food has been consistently good. I went there for my birthday last night and service was incredible from start to finish. They went totally out of their way to make sure I felt special and looked after from a free drink to a dessert. I had the duck confit. Presentation was lovely and it tasted great. Rude and dismissive I had a very disappointing experience at the Rushton. Pre-Covid, I was a regular patron, so when patio dining was opened after lockdown, I was eager to return! Having made a reservation on the patio (since indoor dining is not currently permitted) I arrived to be given a table not on the patio, but out on the sidewalk.of a busy, dirty street. I declined the table saying that I had specifically reserved a table on the patio, but was told in a rather dismissive tone that "the restaurant doesn't guarantee tables" - odd since that's what reservations are for. Th answer is yes. Saturday night, with a large birthday party and nowhere to go my family and friends abided the horrible service because we did not want to be stranded without restaurant in some other section of the city. Scrunched up into the dunce's corner of the restaurant, drinkless and stressed, we waited 2 hours for for our table and when we were finally seated, we waited another hour and a half for our mediocre food. The only item above par in this long anticipated meal was the side order of sweet potato fries and really, who can mess up deep fried and breaded carbohydrates?
