Kind of hard to use the star system for this place. "Eek!" definitely captures it for the place's racial insensitivity, racial slurs, and disturbing white power literature and CDs for sale. Oh, and there's a full Klan robe in there too, a noose, "Niglet repellant," etc. I went in once on a visit to Kennesaw and I do agree that it's something to do once, and a good test of being open-minded and tolerant. It wavers between being a sort of museum/history place about how the South was, pre-Civil War, and a shop for racists to go to as a kind of white power "safe space." So if you're a nonwhite person, or a non-racist white person, be forewarned. With all due credit, owner Dent "Wildman" Myers is truly a one of kind character, and very polite. He wears cutoff jean shorts and two loaded pistols on his belt, and kind of resembles a Civil War buff (Confederate, of course) meets hippy meets biker meets old man. I was open-minded and civil (no pun intended) and told him straight up I was visiting from Oakland, California. He accused the excellent, balanced Civil War museum across the street (which I also visited) of being run by Jews. So here's the bottom line: this is Trump's dream store, and in ways it's sickening and sad that a place like this still exists. But at the same time, I actually think it's important -- like a Holocaust remembrance museum -- to see the ugly face of racism out in the open and unashamed, unhidden, and to remember that Wildman's should be treated with fairness because it is in many ways a museum. It's just a very biased, pro-Confederacy museum, and it's fascinating to experience. If you want to really get into the somewhat dark heart of the South with its demons, warts, and questionable aspects, this is the place. This is a store that embodies the First Amendment -- you may not agree with Wildman, but I think we should defend to the death his right to express himself, because that is what this nation -- Confederate, Union, North, South, whatever -- is founded upon. As one reviewer said, his shop is just a catch-all of Confederate Southern history, and in a way it's good someone is documenting the past and keeping relics alive. The scary aspect is that some of the racist and violent ideas you'll find in his shop are alive and well today, not just in the Deep South, but everywhere. This store is a good test of your critical thinking skills, open-mindedness, tolerance, and ethics. This is one of the DEEPEST South experiences you can have, and Kennesaw is a town with a lot of diverse culture. Going into Wildman's is like stepping back in time, which is actually an interesting mental experience -- like time-traveling -- but be forewarned you are going to encounter diehard white supremacist stuff here. read more

It's about how your business, which already glorifies racist symbols and sells hate memorabilia, chose to amplify that hostility by turning two individuals into targets. A Disgraceful Experience at Wildman's Civil War Surplus I had high hopes for Wildman's Civil War Surplus, but my visit was nothing short of appalling. As soon as I walked in, I was hit by an overwhelming, musty smell that made it hard to breathe. The interior was a chaotic mess, with items strewn everywhere, giving the impression of a poorly managed storage unit rather than a reputable antique shop. To make matters worse, the atmosphere was tainted by extreme racism and prejudice. I overheard the staff making derogatory comments that left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I was shocked that such attitudes could exist in a public space, especially in this day and age. As for the merchandise, I was deeply disappointed. Many items appeared to be fake or poorly maintained, raising suspicion about their authenticity. I left feeling scammed, as if I had wasted my time and money on a place that seemed to thrive on deception. In short, I cannot recommend Wildman's Civil War Surplus. It's unsanitary, unwelcoming, and frankly, a disgrace to anyone who values history and respect. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this place. read more

This place is terrifying. I went in a few years ago, bc I thought it was a history museum of sorts. When I walked in, I was overwhelmed by the Anti-Obama propaganda and racism. He looked at my friend and I and decided that due to our appearance, we must want to see the "good stuff" in the back. So he lead us past the room-dividing rope into the most horrific and disgusting display of KKK and Nazi memorabilia! There were Nazi uniforms, Klan sheets with lynching ropes and KKK pamphlets and cards. I was horrified. I tried to keep my face neutral, as I quickly snapped a few discreet pictures with my phone. As we were leaving, I stepped out feeling dirty and ashamed for being assumed to be like this man. I don't know how or why this place exists. I'm not sure why it's still standing or what they actually sell other than the stupid stickers and shirt in the front. Mind you, this was in 2014, so this was pre-Trump. I can't imagine how much worse it's gotten. read more

I went here with my family just to see some history. I am shocked and appalled at how blatantly racist this establishment is. It's one thing to show racist relics from the past to show how discriminatory people were and how we can move past that, but the racist items were hung with pride. There were no notes whatsoever that claimed these messages as being wrong. Also, for other commenters saying that if you're not easily offended you will like this store, racism isn't some edgy joke. This is the dehumanization of a group of people. As a woman, I can appreciate jokes such as "women driver, no survivor." This joke doesn't indicate I am less of a human. Sadly, the pictures below dehumanize black Americans. I probably could have found more racist items, but this store made us physically sick and we left. It makes me sad to see that people still have such backwards, hateful views. read more

My brother-in-law is a war history buff, so I thought he might have some memorabilia to look through. I had no idea that I was stepping into the grand dragon's dungeon. This place is a gross, cheap dump from front to back. Venture behind the curtain and you're entering a time warp back to 1930 deep south. There is some war memorabilia, but it's covered in a thick layer of dirt and surrounded by racist political posters and propaganda. Just like the show Hoarders, there may be some valuable artifacts, but they're buried under junk, racism and misogyny. Pro tip: bring along a hand sanitizer and make sure your tetanus shot is up to date. read more

Owner makes it very clear outside and inside that he dislikes people of color (putting it nicely here). I saw pictures of African Americans with darts in their faces and eyes. I almost threw up....
