Not what I expected at all. I'm from Texas and our lez bars are pretty lame so I envisioned a bar full of biker dykes which isn't my cup of tea, but I was curious enough to check it out with mi lady. You will definitely see some characters here - a biker dyke or two, a couple of wannabe Rico Suave studs that think they own the dance floor, an old straight woman's third bachelorette party and a creepy old guy trying to get in where he fits in. It was an interesting night to say the least. Mixed crowd, cheap beer, friendly people, DJ Lady Jane playing some oldies but goodies and a decently good time if you're into people watching and dancing. If you're going for the women lower your standards by like 4 notches (on a scale of 1-4) and you shouldn't be disappointed... but then again maybe you will. 5 stars because the DJ was solid and I had a fucking blast people watching and laughing with my girl. I just left the Wildrose. I would like to think my experience here was unusual. My friend and I walk into the rose. The first thing I experienced were both bartenders giving me dirty looks. (I'm male BTW). My friend and I seat ourselves. We immediately notice that they are having a drink special for $2 well drinks. The waitress comes by and says we have $2 well drinks this evening. We ordered a total of 4 vodka and redbulls. For dinner I ordered the Turkey dinner and my friend orders a burger. My turkey dinner was so salty I could hardly eat it, but I choked it down. I was really hungry. The waitress asked and I told her it was way too salty. My friends burger was swimming in mayo. He did not ask for extra mayo. When we got the bill, to our dismay we were charged $6 for each of our well drinks. (when we ordered the waitress didn't tell us red bull was different) Their reasoning. Redbull isn't considered a well drink. From all bars I've ever been to the term "well" refers to the alcohol, not the mixer. We ended up spending $16 more for our lousy meal than we should have. they would not honor their $2 well drink special. Needless to say I won't ever go back to The Wildrose. I went by the Wild Rose around 11:15PM last night for the Seattle pride party and had a really lame time. I paid the $15 cover, made my way through security, and got one drink before they closed the beer garden. I saw about 30 seconds of the last band play. I feel violated, and not in a good way. $19 got me one beer and a few minutes of dancing to YMCA with a pretty non-enthusiastic crowd. Expensive and boring. I won't be going back. You can't just charge people a cover and then not give them anything for their money. It's just not cool. read more

My friend and I came down to Seattle from Vancouver for the weekend with plans to see a show at the Moore Theatre and then meet up with friends at the Wildrose after. We paid for reusable cups for our drinks (we had one each) at the theatre and decided to keep them because they were sturdy and reusable. We had the empty cups when we arrived at the bar. The bouncer asked us if we had alcohol in them before and we said yes. We were polite and offered to leave the cups outside, but at that point, she said we weren't allowed in because we had been drinking and we just put it in her face. We weren't trying to bring outside alcohol into the bar, and we were not drunk. We'd just come from the theatre, not another bar. This over-zealous gatekeeping left a really bad impression and ruined our plans for the night. We don't plan on coming back or recommending any friends here again. read more

Why does Seattle, the capitol of butch have only ONE lesbian bar?! this makes absa-freaking-lutely no sense to me. And come on people, why is this bar so awful?! Ok I have to say they have a few cute bartenders but other then that they have nothing going for them that I can see. I've been here a dozen times or more and have never gotten a drink worth what I paid here, not saying they're bad just expensive for what they are. And the bathrooms are patrolled kind of creepily, if you and your friend even get near the door at the same time you are immediately snapped at by the bartender "ONE AT A TIME!!!" even if you guys just happen to be standing in line together... not very nice : ( On an average night you'll see more straight couples in here then you will lesbians or bisexual women and I think it must be taboo or something cause I think i've only seen one gay man in here. I hate this bar. The drinks are weak and expensive. Their "Bloody Mary" is filled to the rim with ice. I've been coming here for months and I've never been remembered or even greeted by the staff. Not once. Don't come here alone. If you're not part of a lesbian circle, no one is nice enough to let you into their pack for the night. My biggest issue aside from how much money i've spent here is this: I have been refused not once, but TWICE a cup of water once the lights flipped on and we were literally pushed out the door at closing time. If you've ever read Radclyffe Hall's "The Well of Loneliness," you know all about lesbians and depression. Well, if not, feel free to recreate that experience by attending Wildrose and trying not to slit your wrists open vertically. I have never in my life been to such a depressing, morose establishment. I am pretty sure all the little Hollywood Goth clubs need to attend this bar and take notes on how to create a dreary atmosphere that Edgar Allan Poe himself would want to run screaming away from. My wife and I entered the bar, only to find about six or seven cliques of ladies hanging out, talking amongst themselves. Very QUIETLY talking. Now, obviously being a married lady, I have no use for hitting on people, but I am used to a bit of friendly bar socializing. Not this night! Everyone sat at her own little table, gleefully ignoring the other patrons while drinking the sad drinks. There was one single girl at the bar, staring longingly into her beer. No one talked to her. I almost did, just because I felt so bad. The music was horrendous. It was a weird kind of classical, goth-y, experimental music. WHAT THE F? This is not good music for a lesbian bar. This is not good music for ANY bar (save the aforementioned Hollywood Goth clubs). Maybe we just went on a REALLY off night, but god, this place was horrible. I will stick to The Cuff and being the only lezzies in a leather bar any day. EDITED, because I forgot to mention the best (worst) part! We hailed a cab, and our cabbie promptly got PULLED OVER and lectured about how he's not supposed to pick up traffic off of Pike, and how he could get a $125 ticket. I've been to dyke bars all over the world. They have a classic character that typically transcends local language and culture. They are grimy, have grumpy bartenders*, and are full of chicks. Wild Rose is big, grimy, and full of chicks. Classic lesbian bar. The full size tables and outdoor smoking seats are nice. The music was so-so and it is a shame that the huge space with the stage looked like an abandoned garage sale when I was there on two different nights. Not sure why they weren't exploiting the massive (by SF standards) dance floor and drunken crowd by getting a dj in, but whatever. Really like the open, corner window - great architectural feature for a club, but again looked like that scary neighbors living room. You know, the one that everyone tries to avoid eye contact with. And the bathrooms are weird and scary. Like little toilet race cars jockeying for pole position. Yeesh! But the drinks were strong and plentiful so I had a good time. *the bartenders tend to warm up after a couple drinks with nice tip chasers. read more

I had the weirdest experience here. Around 12:30 or so, the bartender informed the handful of patrons that last call would be in 10 minutes. Around 12:40, they called last call. They then informed us that we had two minutes to get the hell out and basically started yelling at everyone. I dropped my beer, ran to the bathroom, ran back out, threw on my coat, and got the hell out. I was glad that I didn't try and order another drink, thinking I would have actually had time to drink it! My friend informed me that this is a Seattle phenomenon and not specific to the Wildrose. The Wild Rose is cliquish and does have its drama. It's a toss of the dice what it might be like in here on any given weekday save for Fri. The weekends tend to get pretty busy, it's the Hill for f's sake! Wednesday is Karaoke night!! I LOVE the crowd here. There are of course a ton of regulars but I've not had one problem meeting people and having a great time and that's WITH being a straight in a gay bar. Soo disappointing!! Wanted to show my gay friend the only women's bar in Seattle. It was a great place for me to meet women and make friends when I first came here. Last night was just awful! Previous reviews about the security, the owner (short, gruff woman) and bartenders are sadly all true! They carded my friend twice (he's over 50), the place was crowded with straight couples - definitely not a predominantly lesbian crowd anymore, and yes the place is dumpy and classless (but it's kinda always been that way). I'm all about supporting women and lesbian owned businesses but when you treat people so badly (see all the previous reviews) you just don't deserve my business. Anyone that wants to feel welcomed, listen to great music and have an awesome time I suggest you head over to the Lumber Yard in White Center. The guys that own the place are ridiculously nice and treat women far better than the lesbian owned Wildrose. So so sad!!! read more

I feel like this place gets a bad rap for some reason and I cannot for the life of me understand why it has so many bad yelp reviews! I turned 21 recently and came here with a friend on a sleepy Thursday night eager to visit my first lesbian bar! It's the only well known lesbian bar in the city and it's very hard to find a real sense of community in Seattle. The bartender was immediately very nice and welcoming, teased me (in a very sweet way) for recently turning 21, and then gave us our drinks. The drinks were good, the atmosphere was fun, the music was good, and the place was completely without the trendy pretentious yuppie trappings that most other cap hill bars suffer from. Most of the patrons were gay women and assorted regulars, the vibe of everyone was great, it's really all you can ask for from a good lesbian bar. I think maybe the reason this place gets so much hate is because people cant stand that seattle lesbians even have ONE place just for us! read more

So we had a bday pub crawl last night and had costumes on (the majority of the party was gay/lesiban). I had no pockets and pulled my money out from my hip. The door girl would NOT take my money because the money was touching my skin, so she called the door guy who was taking the money who also refused me because the money was touching my skin! They called the owner who asked me to switch her my 20 for a fresh 20 and the girl at door still would not let me in! The party of 70 ended up leaving to another establishment. They are the only lesbian bar in Seattle and not gay friendly. I'm not sure if they wouldn't take my money because i was gay or because i was a person of color (just saying). Taco Tuesdays rule! I've been coming to the Wildrose off and on for the last 6 years or so. The owner and bartenders are usually pretty friendly. It can get really busy on weekend nights so I like to order my drinks as a double so I don't have to wait in a long line for another. I popped in for drinks with friends a few weeks ago and noticed they added white christmas lights which added a nice ambiance. You can no longer smoke on the little outdoor patio area. Even as a nonsmoker it was fun to go out there and hang out on the patio meeting new people because all the smokers are usually friendly. Parking sucks but hey it's like that on Capital Hill. read more

I love this place! The menu is diverse and tasty. My favorite- the mac 'n cheese- is the perfect blend of cheesiness and crisp breaded topping and now comes in a $5 happy hour small plate! You've also got to try the 4-Cheese Hero- just watch out for the jalepeno... The bartenders here should probably familiarize themselves with out of state I.d's if they are going to bartend in a touristy city. PERIOD. This dumbass bartender refused to serve us because my girlfriend just renewed her I. D and had a temporary paper to verify. Too bad that he couldn't read and gave us the most trouble we have had in 6 days of our vacation. He seemed to get offended when I tried to assist him with the location of the expiration date, so much so though he kicked us out and refused to serve us . WHAT?! We left and went to Unicorn a much better place to spend your time and money anyway it seems. When we asked for the owners name or another person to verify the I.d he said he was it . He was the only person that we needed to know. Only finding out as we left by a another customer that the name of the owner is Shelly. Hmm I guess the customer must not care for the bartender either since clearly he was lying about us being able to contact someone other than him. Implying that he owned the establishment and there was no one higher than him to speak to since he was "head of security". YIKES if that's true. This place is probably losing business left and right. @Wennie: Yes, you must have been pretty drunk that night because the bathrooms here are small, cramped, dirty and falling apart. In fact that is what I dread the most about this place. The place could do with a remodel as well, not just painting over everything. At the very least, can't the bathrooms be taken care of?! I've never had any problems with the staff, although a few times they haven't been too friendly, but the drinks are always poured well. It's 50/50 on the weekends if there will be good music or a decent DJ. It sucks that this is the only real Lesbian bar in town. Not a lot of eye candy either. What is it with lesbian's here? People need to take note of the horrible reviews of this place (there are quite a few, so many one star reviews!).I am unfortunate enough to have experienced how horrible this place is first hand. I was there with a few girlfriends the other weekend. I brought them there because i had always enjoyed the place for its dancing, music, and great vibe. I used to think it was such a gem on capitol hill. A pretty rude bartender served us a round, and we set our drinks down at a table to chat. I was going to shrug off the rude service, assuming it was a bad night for her. We danced for just a bit, and went outside to smoke, and then were informed, when we were about to go in...that we weren't welcome back inside. what!? you just served us a round, and then decide we weren't welcome back in?? number one, no one in our group was too intoxicated by any means, and number two, if that was your impression (for whatever reason) why on earth did you serve us to begin with? This place is an unethical, amateur, borderline illegal place in their practices, and needs to be avoided. Such a shame. I can only hope it may come under new ownership in the future by someone who knows how to run a business properly. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau. I've noticed over the past years business at this place has really been declining; it was nearly dead on a Friday night, now i know why. My girl and I were on a short vacation to Seattle from Portland. We were staying pretty close in to downtown and easily got around without having to drive so that was great. We asked around for where there was a "girl" bar. We were told Wildrose on Capitol Hill was the place to go. We hailed a cab from our hotel around 5pm and ventured out to Capitol Hill. We found our way to the Wildrose. It was dark,dank and nearly perfect. There were maybe 6 others in the bar and as soon as we breezed through the Door we were greeted by the cute bartender. After checking our I.d's I ordered a brew on tap, IPA and my girl ordered a mixed drink called Raspberry Crush. We slid onto a couple of bar stools and made small talk with the bartender. As we sat there drinking a few cold ones we saw the bar start to fill up. It was a Saturday night and you could tell things would be hoppin' here later. It was time to move on with a good buzz to navigate us through the city. The Wildrose seems to be everything someone could want in a lesbian dive bar. Check it out. read more

Decent priced drinks. Love the HIP HOP music my fav dj Lady Jane plays!! Taco Tuesdays are my favorite whether or not the place is poppin because the tacos are so damn good. It is what you make it at times. I usually like to just strike up a conversation with people whom are very interesting. I do wish they would change the wall pictures they have up tho and also offer a coat check. I have been coming here for several years and seen it changed over the years. Once it had a pool table and then an air hockey table. Now the dance floor roof were raised. The bathrooms are super super small but at least there are three stalls and an extra single bathroom. Overall, I feel that there's not a lot of lesbian places around and that it is awesome that this place is here. :) Seattle is definitely growing city and the "hill' changes with it. So I have been going through the reviews of Wildrose... I like going there. And maybe I'm partial because I have performed there, hosted there, sang karaoke there with friends, and yes, I happen to know a few people who work there. I enjoy them thoroughly. I like the nights that have things going on like Taco Tuesday (cuz I like a cheap taco), Saraoke on Wednesdays, and I like the band night Saturdays. You go to the Rose for events. Or at least, that's when I go. I will admit that, yeah, there are nights when the bar line is kinda insane, but I make sure I know exactly what I want so by the time I get to the front, I can get my stuff and get gone to wherever I'm chillaxin'. What makes the lines look longer is that, because the place ain't even that huge, not by the bar at least, people are standing everywhere. The Rose tries to direct traffic. They do. As far as my experience with the level of service, I can't tell you about how you should feel. I just know that I have had a good time there, and will have more there. read more

I had high hopes for the gay (lesbian) scene since I imagined a big city was better compared to Ohio which I was leaving to come to Seattle for grad school. I shouldn't have because I was sorely disappointed. I recently went there a few weeks ago with my gf and meh....The ID check lady was unpleasant at best. Seems like she derived her self esteem from being a rectum to patrons. Wanted to punch her in the face but decided jail was not a better option. Anyways, went to get a drink and the bartender looked like she wished she was elsewhere. However, her hand was heavy enough for the drink so I'll leave her alone (for now). The small dance floor was filled with men and 2 senior citizens. Some women. Anyways, the music was straight up goofy - I could have played Pandora all night in the comfort of my own home and would have sounded better. As we were seated enjoying each other, a drunk (or high) girl came and started asking us if we "knew where we are." Uhm, yeah - a gay bar? Luckily, my gf was just happy hanging out with me or else I would have felt bad wasting her night. We were told we could bring pizza from next door into the place but not "hot dogs because the owner can't stand the smell." Sorely disappointed this is the lesbian scene in Seattle. Next time, I'll stay home, play Pandora, and make as many hot dogs as I want with a hot chick by my side. Either that or hot up a straight club with better music selection as well as hotter women. My friends and I stopped in on Friday night. (Me (a straight girl) and 2 straight guys). Thou it's a gay bar they're still friendly towards us. It's welcoming to everyone, especially if you're buying. Anyways. first some people were playing awesome music on the jukebox. Then the dj started and I've seen her before. She's nice and plays great music. It's great to go on an off night or earlier in the evening. I am here to express my love of the WildRose. It stands as one of the last lesbian bars in the country, they welcome everyone on the spectrum just as any gay bar on capitol hill. Similar to the Pony, it's always a good time. Every night has a different vibe. Some nights it's a great place to dance, featuring all kinds of talented DJs. There's even Karaoke and on other nights it's just a laid back bar. The angry claims on this page are troubling. A good percentage of the staff at the Rose are QPOC and any one of them would only turn someone away if there was a legitimate reason. I believe that 100%. read more

It was my first time there. I loved the music there, because I love hip hop and they had decent amount of hip hop songs playing. The people at the door were very nice and friendly. My other friend didn't have that great of an experience with the bartender, she said the woman was being pretty rude. I wish they switched up the music a little more often instead of playing one song till the end. But other than that nothing to complain about, I enjoyed dancing with with friends, we had a lot of fun. $3 Cover cash only. They have an ATM inside. read more
