Finally made the trek over to check out Wildseed Farms. We came across this place accidentally as we were leaving Enchanted Rock. At that time, there was nothing going on and nothing growing so we decided to come back around when spring was happening. So this time around, definitely more popular, more cars and people wanting to check the place out. Essentially I was expecting this to be more of a field of flowers. But, it's basically that (although there wasn't much of it yet, just some flowers to see) and garden decor, pots, gifts, wine, pickled things, plants and LOTS of wildflower seeds to plant at home. The plants, some were decently priced, most were a little pricier. Just depends on which ones. Majority of the ones we wanted were a little better price wise vs going to home depot, at least we think so! We walked around the adventure trail (since it was free) to get some steps in and have the kids burn some of their energy out while roaming around (minus my toddler, she would want to run away and fast haha so I changed my mind on that idea). The trail itself was open, spacious and a great way to get some fresh air. You can be lucky enough to catch some glimpses of some flowers that could be sprouting out even though there's not much! The shops: they had different types of store fronts, one for food/snack/pickled items alongside a small cafe where you can order beer and wine, another for more accessories, clothing and some planting items too! They had standing wine tasting area near the trail walking area if you want to walk around with some wine. Parking: so much parking, so definitely not to worry although I can image it being more difficult when the flowers really bloom in their field. read more

I read that this place is pet friendly. They had a lot of plants that they were selling including bluebonnets as well as planters and other garden items. They also have a store where they sell jams, salsa, and other items. They had a place in the store to try their samples. They have a restaurant to dine and do some wine tasting. TL;DR: The wine tasting was great and would highly recommend! Felt a little misled by the wildflower seed pricing -- the price listed is how much each oz. costs, not how much the packet costs. Wine: I did the sweet tasting for $25 and got to try 5 wines (2 white, 1 rose, 2 red). You get a generous amount of wine each time, and I really appreciate that it's given in an actual wine glass instead of shallow plastic cups. Our sommelier was super friendly and gave a handy introduction to each of the wines. Overall, I had a wonderful wine tasting experience here despite it being off-season! Store: It's really cool how much variety of wildflower seeds there are, and there is some handy documentation on how to plant them / what types of wildflowers are for different purposes. I think the most misleading part was that I thought the price listed on the packets was how much the entire packet costed, but it instead meant the price per oz. This is a little misleading considering I didn't see how many ounces were in each packet beforehand, so it would not stand to reason that that's how the pricing would happen. Otherwise, a cool store to look around at for some unique flowers. Garden: Usually the gardens cost a few bucks to enter, but there was a sign that said it was free to enter, probably because it was off-season for the grapes and a lot of the flowers. Still, it's a nice little walkaround with a view of the vineyard, a sign to pose with, and a little fountain and pond. read more

This is a great place to visit. Kind of hard to see from the street. My suggestion is to use GPS. Lots of great flowers in the beds. They have cute stuff for sale as well. I bought a necklace and a mantilla shawl I get compliments on when I wear them. Of course they also sell wildflower seeds. read more

Great big place of pots, plants and wine Nice visit for those who love plants and wine . My friend and I love the variety of plants and pots just thought the pots were a little pricey. Plants not to bad on price. Unfortunately, this was not a wine trip for us just plants so I can't say anything about the winery portion of Wildseed Farms. Great gift shop inside full of seeds from all parts of Texas and gifts for just about everyone. Plant purchases are done outside and gift shop inside. I am sure there is more to see about this place and I hope to come back to share the experience with my friend or someone else. read more

If you love gardening, Wildseed Farms is a must visit when you're in the area. We browsed the adorable store first that sells a variety wildflower seeds, unique finds, outdoor decor, and pottery. Exit the rear of the store, and you'll find a nursery and so much more. We were going to walk the 1/2 mile paid butterfly garden trail, but it appeared not much was in bloom. You can also get snacks and beer at Brewbonnet Biergarten and enjoy in the outdoor seating area with live music. It looks like they have a wine tasting room as well. My husband and I visited on a weekend for the pontoon boat tour. It was one of the most unique experiences on our trip. The tour was hosted by the owner and founder of wildseed farms. John has built quite the empire with his vineyard and wildflower brand. His college bestfriend Rick was also on the tour helping keep our glasses full! We signed up for the membership that day and visited the next day for our free glass of wine, to which we met John's wife Marilyn. We visited on a Saturday and braced for "crowds." But it wasn't bad at all! The shop itself is big and has soooo many crafty type, home decor and more! The winery on site is good! We bought a bottle, and proceeded to tour the grounds with a (plastic!) glass of wine! We sat outside in the patio area for a bit then toured the wildflowers. Beautiful! Five stars+++ Magical! I can't say enough about the excellent experience at Wildseed Farms. It was so good on our first visit, we had to come back for more the following day! This place had it ALL! Initially going to walk through the wildflower trail and butterfly garden, my husband and I browsed the shop, admired all the cute home & garden decor, then stopped for a wine tasting. That was it. We never made it further. Having visited tasting rooms & vineyards from Napa Valley to Temecula, Oregon, Northern AZ and North Texas, we found Wildseed Farms to be a true standout. Every sampling from sweet to dry and in between was a delightful sensory experience. Our wine steward, Cory, was the best! He immediately greeted and seated us on arrival. He was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The owner, John, stopped by our table to thank us for visiting. Incidentally, John is very passionate about all things wildflower and is the genius behind creating the largest working wildflower farm in the world. He is largely responsible for the proliferation of blue bonnets, the Texas state flower. Another associate, Barbara, came over to chat with us as well. It wasn't long before we felt more like family than customers. That's a rare find. The second day, we finally made it to the butterfly garden, which was teeming with Monarch butterflies, gorgeous wildflowers, hummingbirds and dragonflies. So delightful. We purchased several packets of wildflower seeds then another tasting. Cory was again our wine steward and just as upbeat and friendly as the day before. So very helpful too. The adjacent Brewbonnet Biergarten had a variety of sandwiches to choose from for a late lunch. The best feature was a sampling station to try before buying from the great selection of sauces, salsas and butters (Apricot Orange Pecan Honey butter? Yes please) we came away with several selections. Bottom line: we will be back. There is something for everyone. The kiddos will love all the butterflies and wildflowers. The staff was extremely rude. We almost left a basket of plants and left. The plant stand to purchase plants was empty and we wandered inside to get relief from the heat. The plants were small and contained in a carry basket. A staff member took the basket and not in a helpful way letting me know that I should have paid for the plants outside...when I let her know that the stand was unmanned she sniffed and said that was unusual. My daughter paid for her purchases and the woman pointed to my basket and told me I could take it outside. The stand had two members who rang us up...no thank you, no have a nice day. Quite possibly the best wine we had out of all the places we visited while here. The grounds are super quirky and cute as well, lots of opportunity for pictures as they got props all over. You can walk around with your wine while shopping for plants (or just smelling them) or you can sit outside in the shade (or the sun) whatever you prefer or even stay inside enjoying the AC on hot days. Very disappointed in that Wildseed Farms adds a Tip to purchases made at the gift shop there. I made two separate purchases; one inside the gift shop and one in the outdoor garden center. Both purchases included a tip, without my knowledge or consent. I emailed them, asking why a tip is automatically added onto the gift shop purchases, and never received a reply. At this point in time, they will no longer get any more business from me. read more

We have always loved Wildseed Farms since first discovering its magic in 2008. Every year we make a pilgrimage to enjoy the wide variety of beautiful native wildflowers. Our first problem this year is we drove past it because a huge sign said "Wine Tasting" and there a million of these on that road but only one Wildseed Farm. When we did get there, we knew it was a very dry year and there wouldn't be as many wildflowers. However, there were only corn poppies and not any fields with bluebonnets at all. The first few fields on the right had NOTHING planted in them, just the grapevines in the distance. Apparently, they have chosen to become a very minor player in the wine-making business instead of the world-class wildflower and seed company that they have been known and loved for. read more

Very cool place to check out garden decor items/gifts, butterflies, plants, and of course wildflower seeds! We immediately walked into the gift shop- so many cute items ... a little pricey, but I came out with some lovely local goods. They have one room dedicated to seeds only for purchase. I purchased a bag of TX wildflowers and a bag of butterflies garden seeds. I can't wait to plant this fall for spring bloom next year. Outdoors, the flower gardens had already bloomed and had been harvested unfortunately, so there was nothing much to see in the fields. But, the butterfly garden was where the action was happenin'. Zoom in, up close and personal to the many butterflies fluttering in this garden. There's also a small soothing waterfall in the midst of it all. Took a photo of a cute frog that stopped for a photo opp in front of me. Lots of garden decor throughout the grounds for purchase. Too bad we missed the flower fields, oh well... Great place to share some wine and snacks on a Saturday afternoon. There was a guy picking a guitar and singing. Great vibe! The wine was good, the service was a tiny bit disorganized - it kinda looked like they were short staffed. We had the hummus plate and it was a little pricey for the size, but tasted VERY good! I can't believe I have not written a review of this place! We have been coming here for the past 20 years or so. First of all, every spring for the past 8 years, my wife and I come out here to check their plants and shrubs for sale. By the end of our visit, we would fill up the back seat and the back of our SUV of beautiful lantanas, purslane, petunias, rosemary and others that my wife likes to buy. In 2021, we lost a bunch of our landscape plants and shrubs to the big freeze in February. We spent a few weekends going back to Wild Seed Farms to replenish what we lost. It is such a wonderful place to walk around and see all the different plants and flowers. They have a winery too but we haven't been there yet. They also have a restaurant and many years ago, even before the pandemic, we tried to eat there for lunch. We have not tried it lately. I believe that they may have limited hours now. One constant though, as a treat for me, I usually get their soft serve sherbet as a treat. After walking around the place - it's a big area, a cool treat is always welcome! read more

We absolutely loved it here! Didn't have to wait long at all. There was a cute cat there, the wine was great. Our server was a younger man I think his name started with an L, he was so kind and sweet and was working so hard! Amazing! 10/10 experience and I can't wait to go back! Wildseed Farms was a cool spot my friends and I hit up on the way out of Fredericksburg. Located right on 290, it's hard to miss this massive farm with all the beautiful plants and flowers right there off the side of the road. Come to find out, this is one of the nation's largest wildflower farms. We got here bright and early when they opened up, but that parking lot had a steady stream of people pulling in right after us. There is no cost of admission. Right when you walk in, you are in their massive gift shop that has all kind of home decor and little knickknacks. There's a whole area that is dedicated to seeds that are available to purchase. Once you've made your rounds inside, there is a whole outdoor nursery with all kinds of pretty flowers and plants for purchase. If you worked up a little hunger, they have the Brewbonnet Biergarten that has snacks, beer, ice-cream and all kinds of bottled and canned delicacies for purchase. If you didn't get your fill of wine in Fredericksburg, there is a winery tasting room where you can do wine tastings. After all that, you can take a leisurely stroll through the trails and gardens where you can see all the beautiful flowers that grow and sell. They also have a butterfly trail that you can do for a small fee. Overall, this was a cool spot and worth stopping for if you appreciate nature and beautiful flowers. I picked up a few seed packs for my folks and they blossomed nicely. I would stop by again if in the area. read more

This place is a plant store, winery, and garden packed into one! We had a wine tasting reservation here. We had our two pups in tow as they said everywhere in the property was dog friendly. We asked if we could sit outside and our server said - "you can't, I'm the only one here" - needless to say it was a rocky start and we almost left because of that. We survived the tasting, and we thought they were good for Texas wines. Service also got better eventually, maybe the server was just overwhelmed. I think the best part of this place is the fact that you can roam around and check out the plant store and the wild flowers with your dogs.It's very relaxing. The place is huge so you could easily spend a few hours here. Next time we'll probably just get a bottle and enjoy it in one of their many outside tables - that way we won't have to bother anyone for service. Overall, we'd come back for the ambiance.
