Someone else managed to get the bike precariously perched on the rack, upside down, but it wasn't stable enough for a long drive. So I swung into Erik's and asked for help. There were only a couple of customers and a couple of employees, but the wait for service was long. I wasn't a paying customer, though, so I'm not going to ding them for that. One of the employees came outside with me, took one look at my upside down bike, and immediately got down to business showing me the proper way to load up a bike on the rack (hint: that bar I didn't know what to do with? It was SUPER important) The help was much appreciated, and if I was sticking around Madison I'd be happy to go back in the future as an actual customer.

About a week ago I had an unexpected issue with my bicycle so I loaded it up and dropped it off on…read moremy way to work (Saturday morning) and asked while they attend to the issue that brought me in if they could do a once over of the whole bike (since I hadn't had it in yet this year for the free check up) and sure enough I got a email notification before I was off work that my bike had been fixed and all tuned up ready for my next ride. They recommended that I replace the chain and cartridge since it was showing signs of being wore out. So I'm ready for my next ride! Very grateful for awesome customer service from these guys, not to mention they are good people of our community having donated to my benefit fund raiser when I was diagnosed with cancer 8 months ago.

I walked in intending to get new skis and boots and walked out with a great pair of used skis with bindings which he did not need to do..he could of sold me new skis but he listened and knows when to proactively give suggestions without being pushy and it turns out the used skis were exactly what I wanted! Jayson is a real genuine guy that listens! He has a lot of knowledge and after the purchase of the boots I came back and did a custom fit because of a few pressure points in them which made skiing unbearable..after an hour I had a custom fit on the liners of my boots and they are SO COMFORTABLE NOW. During the whole process he graciously explains what he is doing and the reasons for it which made the whole experience seamless. I love my new skis and boots and I cannot wait to put them to good use. Most ski shops near Chicago or Milwaukee do not offer what board shop has and that is QUALITY Service..and a listening ear. They actually care; which sets them apart and really is "gold standard" for ski shops which is rare. Thank you Jayson you're doing it right!! So happy this is so close to home.

This is more of a review of Marmot than of Fontana Sports. I bought my first Marmot down jacket…read morehere, and it lasted almost twenty years before the zipper broke. It kept me so warm and toasty in the brutal upper Midwest winters. I discovered the Marmot brand here in the 1990s. Back in the 1990s, Patagonia was not considered as "technical" and as bougie as Marmot and The North Face. Arcteryx either didn't exist or was an obscure brand almost thirty years ago. Now, Patagonia and Arcteryx are off-the-charts insanely priced. Marmot and The North Face are considered "value" brands. In any case, I still buy Marmot; it's better quality and far better value than Patagonia because: 1. Higher down fill power and 2. Higher down fill weight I recently bought a 700-fill down parka from Marmot with 220 grams of down for far less money than a 600-fill down parka with 150 grams of down from Patagonia. I was cold in the Patagonia parka, and it was horribly expensive. I had to return. I also bought coats from Eddie Bauer and from L.L. Bean. Nowhere nearly as warm as Marmot. The Marmot down parka that I recently bought is called the Montreaux Coat, and I've yet to find a warmer coat at such a great price point. It hits my knee, although it's supposed to hit my calf, so that's a bit misleading on their website. It's closer to parka length than coat length. I like that when the zipper broke after almost twenty years of owning my first Marmot down jacket, I called Marmot's Customer Service, they sent me a shipping label, and they said that they would gladly repair the zipper for me, for free. When they couldn't repair the zipper, they just sent me a new Marmot down jacket. So, I wore that complimentary replacement jacket for another ten years before finally buying the Montreaux coat this year almost thirty years after buying my first Marmot down jacket from Fontana Sports.
