This is my favorite place to snowboard in Wisconsin. I'm still relatively new at snowboarding but I've found that going at night is the best time to do it because the snow is more packed down and it's less busy. I also love that they have an outside fire pit area. The bar has beer but be ready to wait a while to get a drink as service can be very slow. read more

We always have fun drinking there because it's such a dump. But they could update the rooms a bit. For the cost, the rooms are really poor and 70s looking. Hallways are a mess. I wouldn't go in the pool even in a hazmat suit. Reservation line is ridiculous. Was dialing for 5 mins before it finally went to voice mail. Just needs a major overhaul. read more

For the price I think I expected more. The resort is ok. Kind of ran down and needs a lot of updating. The package for a king bed includes lift tickets and we're about 350$ total just for 1 night for 2 adults and the room was just ok. The plugs for lamps were frayed, the shower water wasn't anywhere warm with the faucet turned all the way up, furniture definitely outdated and old and the walls are scratched and dented. The two bars they have on site are very nice! Food is just ok. The ski runs are well maintained, so I'll give them that. I just think I expected more. read more

From the reviews a lot of people are upset with the lodging and summer accommodations. However, this ski resort really does deserve 5 stars. Super close to the Wisconsin Dells, beautfiul scenery, tons of restaurants and other ski resorts if you want to make a couple day trip out of it. There's multiple bars and restaurants at the resort along with lots of hills, mostly black diamonds and blue squares. Best part about this place is even on the weekends it's not terribly busy like Cascade. So much fun and highly reccomend. read more

Devils Head is my favorite place to go snowboarding in the Midwest. It's beautiful, when it's ready to go with snow it's super fun, good runs that's wind around here and there so it feels a lot bigger then it is, good terrain, there's some fun places to pop into the trees here and there. The staff has always been some of the nicest resort staff. I will be taking my cousin here this season hopefully, once he gets a little better so he can really enjoy himself here, this is a place that's a lot of fun to go fast! read more

Came for the weekend with my boyfriend. We got here on a Friday night to stay until Sunday. The crowds were wild in the hotel where people were blasting music and walking around drunk until 1:30am. It was pretty annoying. The hotel room wasn't too bad but the vents were full of dust. The beds were okay. We walked around a bit to check out everything. The indoor pool and hot tub looked unappealing. We passed on that and could not find a weight room. But they had a room with foosball table. We had breakfast in the cafe Saturday morning, they have a buffet which was nice. Everything was alright. On to skiing and snowboarding rentals the people there were nice and fast at what they do. Cooper helped me out with my issues and explained what I needed to do with my boots and such. He was so kind and helped me have a better snowboarding experience. There was not many bunny or smaller slopes. They had more black diamonds and terrain parks. Which for night rider they only keep the harder hills open for. Both devils den and avalanche were packed. I grabbed a cocktail at the avalanche. It was so crowded but the bartenders were quick and made a great drink! Overall we had a nice weekend but I feel like this resort is mediocre, but still a nice time. And everyone who works there and helped us were so wonderful. read more

Purchased a couple stay and play golf vouchers off of Group Golfer. Wasn't able to contact the resort to set up a reservation so I booked my reservation online and had to pay online to reserve. I told the front desk and they refunded my hotel stay but failed to refund me for the four rounds of golf. I called the accounting department at the resort and left a message. They never contacted me, so I called again and the person I talked to told me he couldn't refund me but would pass the information down the line and they would email me. Never happened, called accounting again and left my number, no response. December 3 now, called accounting again and left my information. My reservation was at the end of September. We'll see what happens from here , not optimistic. Probably need to make the 2 1/2 hour drive and handle this in person. Not happy. Save your money and golf or ski somewhere else. read more

I am reviewing just a restaurant and a ski path. The restaurant/snack bar was ok, it was full at the time we came. The burgers were really good and service was decent. I saw the pizza looks great but didn't try it. Ski paths are short. You need 10 min to get to the top and then literally 2 minutes to go down. This review is strictly limited to golfing. Today I golfed 18 holes on the Glacier course. I had read that it is routinely in the top golf courses in Wisconsin and was excited to try it. The course is set in a beautiful location with a lot of wildlife all around (saw a deer run across home 16 today). Some of the holes were well maintained but some others were awful. See pictures. One par three they left a lawn mower just to the right of the green. I almost hit it off the tee. There was also large coils of drainage hose on that hole. Other holes had large amounts of water in their sand traps and the water had been there long enough for a large (several hundred) tadpoles to be swimming in it. Some of the greens only had grass growing on half of the green. It was weird. See more pictures below. These people just want to take your money and pays zero attention to customer satisfaction. Speaking to the manager (Taylor) only revealed their total arrogance in handling customer complaints. Not much C-19 distancing protocol and the resort looks tired fro 1970... and as a previous "never ever" skied before... I can only make the following suggestion. GO Ski... we paid for lessons, got VIP treatment as Virgin Skiers with out pretense, and by the end of the day... we were skiing the blue ski runs confidently. I don't know if everyone feels an out of body elation when successfully doing something as terrifying as we were... but I can say this place and the amount and proximity of lifts etc makes for great day in Wisconsin mountains. I was teetering between a 3 and 4 Star rating but decided to go with 3 Stars. The good: All of the employees we encounters throughout the day were friendly and helpful, from the guy at the lift ticket desk to lift operators to the people working in the restaurants and cafeteria. Ski conditions on the open trails were pretty good despite warmer temps and even some rain earlier in the week, it wasn't icy and there was great snow coverage. The not so good: Here is what I took issue with, the night before as well as the early morning before we left home their website Snow Report showed all of their green runs open but when we arrived early Saturday morning The Burns, The Meadows and Cirque were all roped off and closed. This was very disappointing because I was with my 9 year old daughter who has only skied a few times and pretty much only capable of skiing the greens so we were limited to running Devils Playground all day which became very boring. She did eventually try running Chicken Ridge(Blue) a couple times but once she took a pretty nasty spill so we headed back to green. Had I known all those other runs were closed I'd have probably not made the 3 hour drive and spent the $160 in gas, and the $150 on lift tickets and another $80 on food and snacks. There was also a bunch of Black runs closed, probably 40% of the runs were closed yet people had to pay full price for lift tickets. In my opinion this is the best ski resort within a 3 hour or so drive from the Chicago area, Chestnut Mountain is a close second. read more

We were given a room that was literally covered in black mold. Even the lamp shade had mold on it. I've never seen a room or place like this. I have stayed in nicer Motel 8. They gave me a different room but in the same bldg. the entire bldg had water damage. It was horrible. We were forced to stay there cause there wasn't anywhere else in the area. I walked the resort and feel like this enter place is a health hazard. Even the lobby smells musty like mildew. The health dept needs to get involved. I wouldn't never recommend or stay here ever again. I'm starting to feel the effects of breathing in the mold. This place is falling apart. Horrible read more

THE ONLY REASON THIS PLACE HAS GOOD REVIEWS IS BECAUSE OF SKIING AND THE HILLS. Do not be fooled. I've never been, so maybe this place is staffed and cared for in the winter, but not in the summer. It's sketchy as hell. I should have known considering there is barely information on this website about the restaurants and rooms (if you get the inn king, there is a fridge but no microwave). This place was creepy and gross. I almost left, out of fear of roaches and bed bugs in my room. The conditions were gross. -We had a blanket on our bed with urine and feces stains. -the cabinets had thick scratches on the top and melted materials as if something set on fire(maybe it was the spot where a microwave used to be) -Looks like a safe in the room, but it's just a broken apart minibar. -The lamps are all rusted, and look like a fire hazard. -The bathroom floors were dirty and stained. -The inside of the coffee maker looked like it had years worth of residue and water stains inside . -You literally have to wait for the water in the shower to run for 4-5minutes before it's not cold. Carpet was gross, stained and had stuff all over it(in the room and the halls which also had random trails of white powder spilled everywhere and stains). -The elevator doors had very old and dried looking blood on the doors. -The phone in the hotel room doesn't work which is a big safety issue considering there is only 1 outlet you can access in the room to charge a phone The pros -It's beautiful outside. -They have delicious made to order omelets at the devil's den(the buffet food was adequate and edible) -We had the sweetest older woman as a server for breakfast. (I wish I got her name). It was practically only her as the main server for an entire banquet hall. She was friendly and attentive read more

First time golfing here and really looked forward to it. Beautiful scenery and an excellent layout. Greens were shaggy like 70's carpet and most did not have grass throughout it. Certainly lots of tree trimming to be done. Fences were falling apart. Tee boxes appear to never be watered, mowed or old tees removed. In 18 holes on a Friday afternoon we never saw the bev cart. Four kids at the check in shack doing little to nothing. I'll go back when it's updated. So much potential. But definitely holding off a few years. read more

If you love COVID, this is the place for you. So many obvious violations - bar staff serving a packed bar with no masks, ski lift assistants not wearing masks, literally hundreds of people passing by them each day. Ironically signs and sanitizer everywhere but the staff choose to break what guests would assume to be general safety best practices. Breakfast at the restaurant was a pile of slop (with a free coffee that tasted like the draining from a years old filter). The kids ski prep area had a pile of sawdust in the corner, presumably after a youngster vomited (probably after breakfast), would have been thoughtful if someone would have cleared this up. Management has either given up, incompetent or just trying to squeeze last dollars from a tired asset. Won't be returning anytime soon!! read more

Great spot for socially distanced snowboarding. These days I feel like everyone is on top of others at the ski hills. Too many customers, not enough space... this is the opposite here. Lots of lifts, options for different runs each time. They keep expanding the hill each year too, so it's nice to experience different things year after year. Cafeteria food was decent, bar was kind, facilitates were very clean. Make sure to get there early, parking does fill up quick and you may have a short walk like we did. read more

No refrigerator in room. Bedding is flar and old. Rooms smells like mold and we got soar throats. They had a wedding so none of the restaurants were serving their menu... honestly how do you have a resort and not have food offerings!?!? It's just an old old resort and zero effort has been made to update it. Finally made a visit to Devil's Head, known as the resort with the steepest slopes in the Midwest. Steep, yes. Variety? No. Pretty much all the runs go straight down, from what I observed. It reminded me of Alpine Valley, just bigger. A few parting tips: A lift ticket costs about $45. Helmet rentals are $8. Plenty of Culver's on the drive home. May come back here if I need a change of pace from Cascade. read more

My first time skiing Devil's Head and I must say, I'm pretty impressed. I went with my 6th grader for his school's ski club. The downside is that there was a giant amount of middle-schoolers swarming the complex - good luck getting something from the concessions... but, we knew what we were in for, so we accepted our fate and will make better decisions next time. The hills are very nice. It's been a mild winter, so snow has been scarce. Natural snow is better, but the runs were in great shape from all their snow guns - several having been opened just a day earlier. I was warned that the "difficulty" of their runs tends to not be as hard as, say, Cascade's. So, a black diamond at Devil's Head isn't as hard as Cascade's. I'd agree with that. The blue runs were not horribly challenging, but I'm 100% fine with that. They are scenic and curvy - lots of character, and plenty of places to pick up speed if you're looking for that. As a grown man over 6-feet tall, physics dictates "you will go fast", so I'm always looking for places to cut speed and maintain some sanity. The black diamonds have some steeper sections, but there are also plenty of places to cut speed off to maintain that control. I loved that. The lift that services the blue runs take you over the terrain park. I was super impressed with their terrain park. While I won't DO it, I know what I'm looking at. Some hills have sections of runs that have tricking features (jumps, stairs, rails, etc.). Here, there's an entire run dedicated to that. All nice features - well spaced so you can plan your attack, but also choices (go right, take a jump - go left, grind a rail). My older son (a snowboarder) hit the terrain park a couple times and said it was pretty fantastic. My one big knock on the complex is that the lifts are quite slow. The turbo lift at Cascade has me spoiled, I guess. On top of being slow, the lifts had to stop a lot (I'll assume it was the plethora of 6th-through-8th graders having their difficulties). The other, more personal issue I have with the lifts is that there is no order to them. You just kinda saunter up and "get in line". But, there's no management of the line, nor any official line formation. So, you get kids and other individuals that budge their way through, or come in from the side ahead of many others. If you're not Ski Patrol, I'm not okay with that. Yeah, I know they're excited, but there's room for "patience" and "respect" too. At Cascade, they have more order at the lifts and manage the chaos. Time was short, so we didn't get to explore ALL of the black diamond runs, nor did I bother with the double diamonds. Most of the green runs are closed at night, but I wouldn't want anything much easier than the blue runs anyway. We have three more ski club outings to go, so there's time to explore. It was our first time coming to devils head resort and unfortunately our last :( We came in on Friday night 9pm 1/29 and left to go skiing at 9am. For an over night stay it was $144. Rooms are very old and not clean. Definitely not worth the money. After hours driving we wanted to get something warm to eat. We ended up going to Devils Den. The place was filled with people without masks and only two servers. We tried to get service for over thirty minutes. Finally was able to wave down the server to order a pizza and drinks. Took 45 minutes to come. We ended up taking the pizza to go and ate in our room. In the morning we went to shower before hitting up the slopes and we found one of our towels soiled/dirty. We called to check out at 840 and went to get our rentals and tickets. Lines were insanely long with only one window for rentals... tickets-66$ rental-35$ total times down a slope = VERY LITTLE due to wait times. Once we received our skis it was 10ish. The slopes were nice and marked well on the maps. The lines WHERE WAY TO LONG!!!! The cafeteria food was good with no wait time which was a plus. Over all, if you plan on coming here stay at a different hotel!!!! and come on a week day if you don't like to wait in long lines. There were some pros- staff was nice, decent slopes, decent food and drinks, decent rental skis. read more

I spent the weekend with at least 25 live and dead ladybugs at the Inn. It's fucking February, where the fuck are they coming from? The bed had blood stains all over it, we were too afraid to get out the black light. If you want to die early, get sick, or even hate your life, go on ahead and book a stay at Devils Head Resort! Fun place to come for a casual day of snowboarding. I'm biased because I'm a normal Colorado visitor, but this will do for a casual day in Wisconsin. I did most of the slopes here, they usually take less than a minute to get through. It's definitely a great combo of hills for beginners, so I'd recommend going here if you're trying to learn. Mainly spent my time here doing the terrain park, so rails and jumps. Pretty fun overall. Would come back to mess around in the terrain park again. It's a bit small, but again, for Wisconsin, it'll do. read more

DO NOT GIVE THIS ESTABLISHMENT YOUR MONEY! If I could give zero stars I would. These people are out to make a penny and do not care about their customers. A group of me and my friends bought weekend ski passes and hotel rooms, the suites! We spent thousands of dollars. We were so excited. Then... we got COVID, so we rescheduled. The weekend before the trip/rescheduled date I had a very close family member pass away. It was end of ski season at this point so we requested the room and rentals be moved to next year. They said absolutely not. Sam, who works the front desk was so rude and never even offered condolences. She wouldn't connect us to the manager, and talked to me like she had no desire or intent to help us. Finally we were able to connect with the general manager Joe. Horrible as well. Called us liars. Said we had no intent on ever coming to the resort. Eventually after calling daily for a week, he said he would see what he can do. However, never called us back, never emailed us back. We called for about 4-5 weeks straight and 'he wasn't available'. These people that run this resort are downright mean. I am someone who goes to places based off reviews and how they treat their customers and employees. I hope you consider this when you are looking for somewhere to take your family for a ski trip. Give a second thought to the kind of establishment you are supporting. We were heartbroken about this treatment, and will never again return. read more

I had such a great day of skiing there today. Everyone I dealt with was really nice and helpful, from the customer service person on the phone who told me about this week's Learn to Ski Wisconsin special - $29 for lift ticket, lesson and rental! - to the other customer service people who gave me directions over the phone when my GPS got quirky, to my excellent ski instructor - shoutout to David Ege! who even waited for me when I was late because of the aforementioned GPS issue - to the ski school staffer who checked me in and was super friendly and pleasant. Also it was so uncrowded on this weekday that you just skied right up to the lift - no waiting. A much more personal experience than the big corporation ski mountains. Yes, it's Wisconsin, but it's perfectly respectable skiing. Worth the day drive from Chicago. read more

This is a good place to learn if you've never skied before. The runs are easy compared to California / Colorado. If you are scared of covid i would not recommend it because it is packed. so many people and most are not wearing masks. the service is v slow in the restaurants so you have to b patient. the food is overall good / average. the avalanche only served pizza. they did not wipe down tables between customers. the restaurants were packed and understaffed. vodka sodas were below average tasting. the cornucopia is the nicest restaurant and it's pricier but your only option if you want something other than pizza. we waited in line for ski rentals for almost an hour. I wouldn't voluntarily stay at the inn again. there are little lady bug type bugs everywhere. it is not a clean / comfy place. decor is below average. the mini fridge works. water pressure was fine and bathrooms were stocked with towels. the drapes didn't work and had stains on the inside. masks are not required. social distancing is not enforced. it is as if covid does not exist. read more

Stayed in a condo. One word: Mice. Called front desk and they didn't seem too phased by it. Any hotel that seems to think The existence of mice is unacceptable. Had one on the bathroom. And another go running through the living room while we were watching TV. As well, when we checked in, there was hair in the bathroom and the carpets were dirty so it clearly hadn't been cleaned. This review is just regarding my experience skiing for the day at Devil's Head - I have not stayed at the Resort itself. So first off, this was my first time at Devil's Head. I have been to many other Midwest ski resorts in my life including Wilmot (before it was purchased and renovated by Vail), Alpine Valley and a few others. Parking is super easy at Devil's Head, it's just a huge gravel/sand parking lot at the base of the mountain - no shuttle required. So we parked and walked over to the ticket and rental building. There aren't any sidewalks that I noticed so you are walking across snow/ice to get there. The ticket and rental process was easy to follow and wasn't super crowded when we were there at 9:30AM on a Saturday. The mountain itself offers a number of runs and chair lifts ranging from green to double black diamond. It is by no means comparable to skiing out west but it works for new skiers, skiers who want to try terrain parks and just as a place to get your skis on if you are stuck in the Midwest for the winter. I grew up skiing in northern Michigan and in Colorado but it's been a couple years so this was a great time to jump on my skis again and freshen up my skills. We had lunch at the Avalanche bar where they had a pretty small menu with pizzas and toasted sandwiches and some different options for drinks. It was reasonably priced and it worked - it was no means the best sandwich I've ever had but it did the job! There is also a cafeteria style dining option with a much more extensive menu that is typical to what you would find else where. It involved a lot of fried food, burgers, wraps, etc. Something to note for your trip - if you are a new skier and will only be sticking to the bunny hills, you can get a discounted lift ticket. They also provide lift ticket discounts for large groups. read more

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. This place was an absolute tragic mess. I wish I would have checked the reviews before we spent all that money and drove 4 1/2 hours to this train wreck of a trip. we ran into a very similar problem as others. It absolutely blows my mind that you can REQUIRE people to purchase their lift tickets and equipment a DAY IN ADVANCE and completely fail to provide the equipment that people purchased! STOP SELLING TICKETS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE EQUIPMENT! We showed up with the PURCHASED and RESERVED intent to snowboard. Of course their were no snowboards available as this applied to many others around us. On top of that, the ticket salesmen made us do all the leg work to find out if there were even skis available or boots for us in the right size for that matter. We were given skiis (thank goodness) and shoes that were no where near our shoe size and they had no poles for skis. Here we are now a half hour into trying to get our equipment and we look down to find out that not only were the shoes far too big, we were given two right shoes, one of which was very broken. Not to mention absolutely NO covid precautions put in place in terms of limiting the amount of individuals allowed to be there at one time. It is incredibly evident that this place is solely in the business to make money as they over sell tickets and pack the resort during the pandemic. The only reason a gave it any stars was due to : the slopes are descent and efficient and there was a total of one employee who was kind. A girl with short black hair at the top of the bunny hill today was incredibly kind to the kids and parents as they were going up and down. read more

This "Resort" stay was very disappointing to say the least! The property is in desperate need of repair and the interior halls are filthy with light fixtures riddled with dead bugs. It is impossible to find photos on the website and I see why now. The wedding was outside and beautiful, wish we just would've gotten a decent place to stay in nearby Madison or Baraboo. read more
