It is also the road to a campground for a nearby fishing lake (not blue lake). Many years ago I was lucky enough to work there for my inclusive boss, who is also now the current management. This employment was key in my development and maturity, I have since become a teacher at a school that promotes many of the same values I learned and loved at Blue Lake. I am certain Blue Lake is working to develop leaders at the same time ensuring safety for its campers. If you are looking for a community that loves the outdoors and enjoys having fun this is the place to work. It is also the place to send your child for camp. I was honored to see camp grow, evolve and bring in new programs from junior outdoor youth leadership (JOYLS), to outdoor Youth leadership (OYLS). At camp I made lifelong friends that each year we would promise to meet back at camp (back when there was no internet to stay connected) the same people that are still in my life today. I remember being a camper and not wanting to leave camp, so I asked management, Yoda, if I could stay and help, which he happily said yes!! It was there that I truly felt like a bigger part of the BLC family. I went on to work as a counselor, gaining more skills of teaching, role modeling and enhancing ecofun programs. On days off I was welcomed to stay at the management's (Yoda) personal home as I lived too far away. Other Counselors became close friends, a family away from home. The Spirit of camp shined through the dedication, pride and resourcefulness to bring any child the experience of camp. It has been an honnor to continue to watch camp grow, evolve and bring the magic of camp Alive in children's eyes. I highly recommend blue Lake as a camp to send your child or a place to work.

I let Google Maps navigate us there and it brought us to a house on Spokane St. There were quite a few cars parked along the road, so I assumed we were in the right place. Seriously, if it wasn't for the cars, I might have thought Google Maps was taking us for a ride. You walk up to the house and look right for the passage to the back. Down some stairs and you open into a beautiful garden. I'm not going to say much more - you have to experience it yourself. But yes, it's pretty much completely outdoors, so your experience will depend on the weather. I asked for a menu and it was explained to me that they only offer one pairing of food daily, a soup and a sandwich or just the sandwich. This day's offering was ham and brie on a Swiss bun and potato and leek soup. This is all made on premises by the cook, Roland. I met Roland and Nina after we ate. Such a pleasant couple. The weather cooperated. Lunch was great. You know the food is good when you catch all the staff grabbing a bite here and there between visits to tables. The ambiance was super relaxing. On 25-Friday-2016 I spent a grueling 38m 54s completing The CrossFit Games Open 16.5 Rx, 21-15-9 Thrusters @95lbs and Bar-Facing-Burpees... two movements which are the bane of my existence. With the completion of this workout I met my goal of completing the 2016 CrossFit Open Rx and exceeded my expectations with a placing of 78th (of 228) in my Division for Western Canada. I can't remember the last time I was involved in a physical activity that I enjoyed this much that had so many benefits...I'm leaner and stronger than I've been in years, my posture has improved dramatically and my hip which has been paining me for the last 10 years no longer hurts. Over the last year I've heard from many visitors who say that Jesse and his staff pack a lot of programming into each class. Some of climb just straight up but with some twists. Some have inclined wall which requires cliff hang or swing to reach the next grip. Apparently this system is unforgiving when it comes to payment as you are required to pay in full at the time of booking whether it is a week or a year prior to your stay. This campground fills up a year in advance and you are encouraged to book as such. Because of this we will not be back. The customer service leaves a lot to be desired as most of them don't seem happy to be here. The upkeep on the campsite is lacking as well. The bathrooms aren't checked, hence no toilet paper several days. Overall it is just going downhill.
