The beach park section of Larrabee park is gorgeous. There's ample parking, then a decent that's…read moreabout a 45 second walk to a grassy lawn and a beautiful stage built in the early 1900s. There were people performing music on the stage and park goers enjoying on the grass. Just to the left of the stage there's a path to the beach. Another 2-3 minute descent brings you to a trail going left and right. The path to the left is a short trail to a rock you can sit on and climb down to get to the water. Further that way there's another beach. The path to the right leads to a nice beach with a great view and a shade tree. There were some bugs in the washed up kelp, but nothing too bothersome imho. We had a stand up paddleboard so we used the path on the right after the stage area. I would recommend anyone bringing gear down (scuba, kayaks, paddleboards) to use this beach. Larger crafts can use the boat ramp just north of this beach, and you can drive right up to that ramp (north of the stage and parking area). It was a beautiful park and a great place to picnic, enjoy the water, and view the sunset!

After kayaking in on a Friday night there wasn't a lot of space on the hill so we had to settle for the beach which was a bit windy but still nice. Most people had traveled by boat and brought more things but we kept it pretty light. Saturday morning a large group left opening up a site with great views for us to snag and it was beautiful waking up to such a lovely sight. There are two locations with composte toilets, sites with picnic tables and fire pits. No water access so pack your own and there's lots of mice so be sure to have a way to store your food. Also please make sure and pack out whatever you pack in as there are no garbage facilities or regular maintenance and we want to keep the mousey home nice, yah know?! When not gawking at the view there's lots to do on Cypress Island. We did a 5 mile out and back up to a little pond and airfield, there's a protected bay for swimming and paddle boarding, and lots of wild life to see. We watched eagles, sea otters, dolphins, sea lions, and tons of birds..and of course the mousies, while we visited. Lovely spot!

The shower water in the community shower is barely lukewarm. I asked the lady at the front desk,…read moreand she said the shower was cold because of the type of push button shower knob and there was nothing they could do to fix the cold shower water. A bit later I was able to get a sneak peek at the hot water heaters and they were turned all the way down to the lowest possible temperature setting. This maybe fine during the summer but it is now headed into winter and the park refuses to provide hot shower water in the community restroom. Other than the cold shower water, the park is very clean and well maintained.

The counselors have always been young adults, trying to do their best. Canoeing, hiking, swimming, capture the flag were always fun. Our church has done a couple of weekend retreats in March and they've been fun. I don't know anyone who has rented a cabin for a family retreat.

On the weekend we were here, there was no ranger on site. We had a few kids setting off firecrackers. And one camper that left their barking dog out all night. We didn't do our homework about the surrounding area activities - there was some type of race and concert going on nearby and on Saturday night the bass from the music got irritating - you could hear it thumping through your pillow until 1:00am! We would still like to come back, but on a quieter weekend.

The road to the camp is a bit of a trekk. It's long, windy, and much of it dirt with pot holes. There's also no cell service out there so be sure to communicate with anyone you're meeting shortly after turning off highway 2. The camp sites themselves are good sized, we easily fit 2 tents and our cars. There was a fire pit and a picnic table too. We had access to the river and enjoyed a nice cold plunge on a warm day. There were several hikes in the area to choose from but we couldn't turn down the incredible Lake Blanca, whose trailhead was only a few minutes away. We look forward to visiting this campground again next year.

The campground at Troublesome Creek is an absolute gem. Located about two hours from any…read moresignificant population base, accessible off of a (mostly) dirt forest service road, you'll marvel at the serenity of this idyllic campground. There are two sides to this campground, an east and a west loop. My spot was on the east loop, space 15 and I'd definitely recommend the spaces on the east loop, as they give you ample privacy with equally ample access to the creek and the North Fork of the Skykomish River. No power hookups means you can set the devices aside and worry little about what's happening in the city. Out here, the entertainment is happening in nature. Views of surrounding peaks, the rush of the water as it flows past and as night falls, the dotting of stars in the inky black sky will give you exactly what you need before heading back to civilization. Nature truly is the best. I'll be back to this campground again, no doubt.

What sets this little park from the rest is the peace and tranquility I felt there. As an older woman camping alone, I felt completely safe. The permanent residents next door, Dennis and his wife, add a personal touch every day with little gifts of welcome. A most rewarding experience.

This was my first camping trip to Bay View in years, and my very first in the winter months. We're…read moreworking hard on our goal to camp at least once a month in 2023, so this not-too-far spot seemed like a great spot to check out on a blustery January weekend. We were lucky to snag a partial hookup (power/water) site in the first loop (sites 1-9), which features views of the bay. The campground host was kind enough to help guide us as we backed in our new trailer, which is a LOT bigger than our old one! Soon enough we were snug in our site and all hooked up. The loop eventually filled up for the weekend and was very quiet. While our site didn't have a sewer hookup, there's a dump station at the park which is free for overnight campers. There's not a lot to do at this park, it's pretty small. But the beach is gorgeous, with nighttime views across the bay to the eerily gorgeous refineries to the west. We didn't do much exploring, except for a day trip to nearby Edison for some beers and lunch.

But this park is more about the sunset. I was in town as a day trip and the weather was so nice that I wanted to check out the sunset. We sat there people watching on the bench as the sun started sinking over the water. People walked out down the pier and it made for really nice pictures. Once the sun went down, people left because there was a chill in the air, but until that moment, the sunset was magical. Definitely glad we hung around for twilight.
