Little Branch is a cozy speakeasy. We showed up as a group of 7 on a Saturday evening and they were able to accommodate us in a cozy booth in the back. It was a little tight, and the booth probably fits 6 people more comfortably. The menu is no frills and straightforward. They don't serve food. The bartenders can pretty much make anything, even if it is not on the menu. I asked for a Pimms Cup which is off the menu. They made an excellent Pimms cup!! Other members of the group had various classic cocktails or beer. Every one enjoyed their drinks. The bar is not ADA accessible. Stairs required to access the bar. Two bathrooms that are tiny and have a stair to enter. Staff were friendly and attentive. Great place. Will definitely be back. read more

This place was recommended by a friend. And it did not disappoint. The fun part about this place is that it is cozy, it is charming and it is a throwback to a time that was creative, funky, jazzy. You do not need a password to get in. You just show up. Service was friendly. We put our name for the table and wandered to the bar. I recommend the bartender's choice. Came here on a Saturday at 7pm and there was a short wait to get inside, but we never got a table inside as we waited at the bar. Table sitting has no time limit and the place got pretty packed as the evening got later. You must put a name down for the table seating as well so don't forget! First time back since 2017 and LB definitely holds up. My boyfriend and I came at around 8 PM on a Friday and waited outside for about 30 mins to get in. They were, at that time, a tiny bar upstairs while they renovated the downstairs. The upstairs had maybe 15 seats, so it was very cozy and intimate. We became best friends with bartender Alex, who is a wizard. We returned a week later, and imagine our surprise when we saw the downstairs had reopened (and thus the upstairs was now closed). Our party of four snagged a booth after about a half hour wait, but due to them having more room, we were able to order drinks and stand at the bar. Incredible experience both times. This was my second visit to this speakeasy and I absolutely love the vibe here! Just like most speakeasies, the way you enter this place is pretty discreet and it is located underground. They have very limited seating available and this place is almost busy every time and I say this because I've visited this place on a weekend as well as on a weekday night and it was always packed. We wrote our names down for seating and just ordered drinks and hung out by the bar. I got a Moscow Mule and my friend got a Manhattan ( because why not?) The drinks are slightly on the expensive side but it's SoHo NYC! The music is pretty mellow which we couldn't really enjoy as much as there were a lot of people. The crowd and vibes are great, we eventually took our names off from the waitlist and hit another bar as the wait time was a lot, but I guess that was kinda expected! read more

I really loved the live music/pianist they had when I went -- just made everything so much more vibey. Little Branch is one of my favorite hidden gems in the city. It's easy to miss as it's barely marked. It's also VERY small, but it's well worth a stop for some excellent cocktails and intimate vibes (it's very dimly lit). The space is pretty dark and intimate and does feel a bit more like a speakeasy than a lot of other places making the claim in NYC. We were in the area for dinner and were looking for a hip cocktail bar. There's no shortage of solid cocktail bars in the area so we decided to give this place a shot - primarily because it looked like it had a secret entrance and cool ambiance. So the entrance is not so secret - there was a guy at the door checking vax cards and the like. It is unmarked which adds some charm. As you walk down the stairs, you are greeted by a decent sized bar area and the host. In terms of availability and seating - you need to check in the host and they will put you on a list for seats. There are only so many seats here and, if you're planning on drinking a few cocktails, I'd recommend having your name down. If you don't have a seat, the bar area has some seats but the majority is standing room. We got here at around 8/8:15 pm and there were a few people standing at the bar area. After that, a lot more people started to flow in from the after or pre-dinner rush. The drinks here are solid and the bartenders are able to answer any questions you may have. I asked about the Vieux Carre and what it would be like - the bartender said it's like a French style old fashioned. If it's super busy there, the bartenders might seem a bit short with their answers because there's a ton of orders needing to be fulfilled. With that said, you can't go wrong with this place. read more

Little Branch gets 5 stars for the quality of bartending alone but the ambiance also doesn't disappoint. I think you could ask for just about any cocktail (within reason) and be met with a knowing nod, a brief wait, and a perfect drink. The ice is crystal clear if you care about that sort of thing and I do. Service is remarkably quick given the complexity of the menu, which is inventive without doing too much. Pro tip: come early or have a reservation because the standing room area can get a little crowded and loud. This place was recommended to me by another bartender, so I knew it had to be good. Little Branch not only met, but went above this expectation. I've heard it can get a little bit crowded on big nights, so we stopped by on a Sunday to also hear from live jazz, which I heard they had. It was still definitely busy, but we were able to get a table without any issue (2 people). Their bar area (no chairs) was very busy with lots of groups standing out and chatting. I will say, our hostess/server was a bit cold and seemed a little impatient and condescending, but the drinks we had made this all forgiveable. My whiskey sour was so delightful- unlike any drink I've ever had before. The egg white was super foamy, and the bartender had done some kind of "latte art" almost, on top (see picture). Apparently he poured some bitters on top and swirled it with a toothpick. Absolutely amazing. The ratio of all the ingredients was exactly right, with the fresh lemon, whiskey and sugar melding together perfectly to give a soft, almost caramel-y flavor. I could never settle for a whiskey sour at another place ever again. The 2nd drink I ordered was a bartender's choice, I told the bartender I liked cucumber and gin, and something a bit herbally. He (Alex! This is a shout-out) came up with a speckled hen for me, which had gin, cucumber, lemon, absthinthe, and egg white- with a crack of black pepper on top. Almost even better than the whiskey sour. I can't recommend this place enough. Stand at the bar for the real experience. read more

One of the OG speakeasies. The signage is a bit hard to miss but just keep an eye out for a guy in a Mets jersey standing out front. They've also put out some tables and chairs outside for COVID reasons, I'm sure, but, depending on your comfort level, I would say to go for the subterranean seating to get a feel of what NYC used to be like. It's super romantic inside, some candles and that's it (maybe too many, see my note below), don't worry, your eyes will adjust. I spied a few larger groups but definitely no more than four or five people. I really liked the cubby-style seating. For $18, the cocktails are not cheap, though I guess you're there for the ambiance and the mixology talent. If you're feeling gutsy, I would say go for the Bartender's Choice. Each time, the bartender absolutely nailed it and I'm really also not the most helpful in describing what I want. The first time I went with "fruity, sweet, fizzy"; second time, I asked for "spicy or gingery," no preference on the liquor. The second drink was so delicious I had to ask what was in it. At one point, the candle in the little lamp next to our table tipped over and caught on fire. The hostess rushed over almost immediately and took it away. Probably one of the most exciting moments so far this year (which should tell you something ...). A bit loud but my friend and I could still hear each other pretty well; I don't remember if the music was turned up all the way. Extremely narrow bathrooms. Oy vey. Definitely how you know you're in NYC. Overall, a really cool place to grab some drinks with friends or a date but for the price tag alone, probably hard to come here as a regular. read more

Maybe next time I'll have to ask for the bartender's recommendations. It's better to come with a small group, but I've been here twice with a group of 7-8 on two early weekday nights and both times we were very lucky to be seated at a large booth in the back. From the looks of it though, this place is more popular for smaller groups or dates. Also, I'm not usually one to care too much about lighting but it was notably VERY dark in here. Maybe it's to match the intimate jazz vibe that they're going for, but it was so dark that when the cocktail menu came, I had to shine my phone screen light to read even a single word. It felt a bit embarassing because the light was probably bothering other guests, but then I saw other customers doing the exact same thing. I didn't know about this place until I was taken out here one night. It is a speakeasy type bar so there is no sign outside letting you know it's there. I guess you have to find it online or word of mouth. So you go to an unmarked door and down some stairs into a basement, which seems sketchy but it totally feels like a speakeasy. I loved the ambience of the place. They have adorable little two person booths to sit at and some larger sections. The lighting is very dim so it's a great place for a romantic night out. The music was really good too, it fit perfectly with the speakeasy vibe with some jazz and old school blues. The drinks are expensive but strong. I got a personalized drink from the bartender who was great. They ask you what you like and then create something special for you! I asked for something like an old fashion, with a muskier taste and I ended up getting just that, but even better. My boyfriend asked for a fruitier drink, and that came out delicious as well. Located on a super small corner's unmarked door right in Greenwich village, this is right by my job and I'm damned happy it is (fuck you Covid). It tends to get busy later on, so it's a good fancy option to grab drinks with coworkers after 6; I really like the tiered seating by the bar to. While there are a few established drink options, for the most part you are trusting the bartender; tell them what you're in the mood for (liquor, strength, flavors etc), and watch the magic. Why only 4 stars? Pricing can be a bit much. The drinks are well made, but this whole $20 per drink thing needs to slow the fuck down. It is acceptable (not valid, just acceptable) here given the quality and that this is more of an 'it' spot, however at some point we need to consider what is sustainable for bars to charge. There aren't THAT many trust fund kids out there. Furthermore, this less of a place you'll stay all night and more of a stop ahead of a larger binge or dinner. That lack of replay value hurts Little Branch when compared to other big speakeasies like Dear Irving and even smaller/newer players like Nobody Told Me. read more

Although I was there with a friend this place screams date night. It's very dimly lit and in the basement of a nondescript building. You'd miss it, if you're not sure where you are going. The bartenders were not only knowledgable but quick on their feet. Every suggestion they made were better than the drinks I thought I wanted. Also, it's surprising not overpriced. [Read still very on par with Manhattan cocktail costs but not outrageous lol]. The only reason I'm withholding a star is because it's small and the waitlist for a table was lengthy. I hate to give this place a mediocre rating; I really respect the dimly-lit, jazz-playing, classic-cocktail-reviving vibe. But it's not quite as special as it was years ago, and I hope things improve. The bouncer is charming, and some of their classic cocktails are beautifully made, but some drinks came out a bit sour or unbalanced, and it took ages to get our server's attention in the dark.
