I have been to many dentists over the years, and don't understand why this practice gets bad reviews from some folks. I have been living with a sub-par front cap for years and recently got both front teeth capped that vanquished a hesitant smile in one sitting. I would give the answering service for after hours no stars if I could. I had an appointment and I called and as I was explaining that I might have to cancel. Not sure the answering machine cut me off. I would assume when you only get a partial message on the answering machine you're gonna call the customer and see if he is gonna go ahead and cancel 100% for sure or if he's gonna make his appointment . Well, they did nothing of the sort. They just canceled my appointment and I went to check in and they said oh yeah after hours canceled you. . I have been waiting since the beginning of the year to get in and get a busted molar fixed . I dealt with Willamette dental on liberty Street. They dropped the ball and never pushed my paperwork through in the beginning so several months later I had to call them and say hey I still haven't got a call from the specialist yet. They apologize for that and then I had to wait till almost the end of July and I go today and I'm canceled . I think they're all about taking a payment and that's it . Another thing that is very annoying with them is you cannot call your office directly. You have to go through this bullshit service of giving your name and all your information every time you call to a call center and then they patch you through. Have not been happy with Willamette dental for years and it's what my company offers so until they get something else unfortunately I'm stuck with these stupid call centers. read more

The front office was the worse I've ever been to. super rude, care quality was good that was totally the only good thing about this place. I came in for a cleaning and I was treated like I was gonna rob the place. I placed my cleat board on the front desk so I did not have to take it into the bathroom an when I came out I was told they had told me to take it with me to the back and I said I only went to the bathroom and didn't want to leave it anywhere and figured it will be cleaner, safer siting at the front desk. I had an appointment that I waited over a month for to have my tooth looked at because I think my filling came out. When I got to my appointment they were treating me like I was there for a teeth cleaning wich I told them I was not. I never ever mentioned or did they on the phone about a tooth cleaning. I literally had to ask to speak to the receptionist so I could schedule a new appointment since they were not gonna look at my tooth. I was absolutely flabbergasted when I was told of no appointments available. What a complete waste of time especially since I left work early and drove all the way from Mcminnville for nothing! Over all it's been the best I've encountered. The most recent experience I had was rather disappointing. I had an appointment early in July. Got the call the day of the appointment to let me know that the appointment was canceled. I really dislike the policy that has the patient has to pay if they cancel an appointment in less than 24 hours. What does the patient get when the office cancels your appointment? Nothing. The orthodontist there knows little English. She has very little understanding of teenagers. Little did her assistants know that we could hear them outside our room. Ashley is so immature and a snot. Someone in that office told me she was very immature. I do not look back with fond memories of going there. I will never forget Ashley giving me a dirty look. I remember the orthodontist making me come in with my teenager and we had to pay extra $$. If she just would've said your child's teeth will separate and then go straight we would've never had to go to that appointment. The lady ortho blamed traveling assistant instead of taking the responsibility for not explaining my son's procedure. I am using my friends yelp because I don't have a yelp app. It's so obvious that we were very gossiped about by the assistants. I asked orthodontist if my sons braces come off in another month. I went to go get teeth filled.. instead of just taking out my wisdom they fill it in. They waste your own money I had my wisdom tooth taken out yesterday and realized they wasted my money! Honestly I was a little nervous to go, but I had an exceptional routine for cleaning, x-rays, etc. Andrea was amazing, she was my dental hygienist today and I'm so grateful she was. She was so knowledgeable and explained everything fully to me. Was able to answer all questions. Even recommended an inexpensive toothpaste that could help with my tender gums. For all the people hating about the annual checkup, if you want another one, then schedule it for another 6 months. Quit finding stuff to complain about. Instead find something to be thankful for. I was there for the first time this morning. I was reading the reviews last night and I was little hesitant. My sons appointment was at 7:00 am. We got there at 6:50 and the office was already open for business. I completed paper work and my son was called in right at 7:00. Everybody was super professional and very nice. The doctor and the hygiene clinician were very helpful and friendly. Will recommend. Have another Appointment in a month. We will see but I expect the same treatment. read more

Supervised Neglect. I have had Willamette Dental Group for years - they are the dental provider given to me by my workplace. I have never been super impressed by WDG, but now I am absolutely livid. I had to visit another dentist because WDG would not repair a broken dental appliance attached to my teeth. That dentist took one look at my teeth and told me that I needed to call WDG and demand a referral to a periodontist. That dentist asked if they had been measuring my gums (they had, for years) and he was shocked that they hadn't referred me. He told me I would certainly lose my tooth without a gum graft and told me this is what is called supervised neglect. Shouldn't my own dentist (WDG) be telling me these things???? I called WDG, got in to see a dentist who did say he would refer me to a periodontist and that I should be scheduled within a week. Now, a month and many phone calls later, they tell me that they are trying to decide if they can even save my tooth. I'm pissed. If I lose my tooth, it WILL be because of their supervised neglect. read more

I've lived in Oregon about a year now, and I'm just getting to those final errands that indicate I've moved here for good -- like finding a local doctor and dentist. My employer offers a choice between Willamette Dental insurance and a traditional insurance company. Willamette's copays and coinsurance costs were cheaper, so, having very little context, I signed up for Willamette. It turns out that in dental services, you get what you pay for. After my initial call, Willamette scheduled my initial appointment within 10 days. And my routine checkup visit started well enough. The offices are clean, and the staff friendly. I actually liked my assigned dental hygienist, whose conversational air put me at ease. The dentist was friendly too. Here's where it got wierd, though. I got the distinct feeling that the dentist was trying to steer me away from getting care. After my consultation, the dentist remarked that my teeth were in pretty good shape, so he said I shouldn't return for another checkup until a year had passed. I've been going to dentists pretty regularly for neigh-on thirty years now, and a 6-month checkup seems to be the standard. So this dentist's 1-year suggestion seemed (1) not normal, and (2) more designed to save the company money than to promote patient care. I just didn't feel like my health was the primary concern there. The dentist did discover a cavity, and requested that I come back to have it filled. This was July, so I was more than a little surprised to learn the next available appointment was in OCTOBER. It's a good thing I wasn't in severe pain, because waiting more than three months to get a filling just seems unreasonable to me. It seemed especially unreasonable, given that Willamette scheduled my initial appointment within just ten days. *** Update -- after I remarked that three month delay was unacceptable, and threatened to switch plans, Willamette called back and moved my appointment up to August. I guess the lesson here is that you need to be assertive if you don't want to wait three months for your dental care. *** Anyway, Willamette Dental can be a good choice if you have very good teeth and a very open schedule that allows you to wait months for your dental care. On the plus side, they seem somewhat cheaper than other dental establishments, and their staff is uniformly friendly and professional. On the downside, I felt like they were steering me away from care in order to pad their bottom line. read more

My most recent experience with them unfortunately has my family never returning to either salem location. While the dentist themselves were great, the front desk at each location has that one OC that is just a SNATCH to patients from the second they step in the door. I do the exact same thing for a living in a very similar field and the way these ladies greet patients is an absolute turn away. Girls, if your so unhappy with your profession you should probably consider a change of scenery and do us all a favor. read more

I don't live in Salem & I had to take a day off work to make it to this appointment. I even brought my fiancée with me, The check in process was nice & easy, however, the bedside manner from the Oral Surgeon & the assistant was AWFUL! The assumption that $900 isn't expensive for me to get a CT scan of my Jaw at OHSU was unnecessary & they didn't introduce themselves to my fiancée when they came in the room (hardly acknowledge him) It was almost like they couldn't get out of there soon enough. I called 7-17 to make a.m. appointment because the temporary liner they put on my partial created a big sore on my gum. I was told 1:20 and when I showed up today they tell me the appointment was at 9:20. I couldn't go at 9:20 as I had a repairman coming to my house. They checked with staff and they were too busy to see me. The person behind the counter was not very nice and so I took the same attitude. The next appointment was tomorrow at 9:00. I told her I couldn't eat anything and they didn't care. I called the 1-800 number and the person that answered was able to get me into the Liberty office after I explained the situation fully. I was going to give them a one star but now I'll give them a two star. This is not the normal treatment I get either, apparently the new help is not worth a darn and needs to be re-educate in customer service. read more

Worst service ever. Reception people don't know how to do there job. My daughter had to wisdom teeth pulled. She had to take off work and so did I. She gets there and they tell her if she wants laughing has they needed to tell her ahead of time so she has to reschedule. So she went through the pain and ended up with lock jaw. And was hurting for days. So lean they were responsible for asking those questions when she scheduled the appointment. My son well they won't even schedule his appointment they say he needs a new referral bc it's been a year. It was their fault it was a year I kept calling trying to get him in they would say they have to call back. Then she says I have to call you back after I get referral it will be same day. Never received a call. My son is now scheduled for ortho at gentle dental where I know they will do it correctly. Unfortunately for me my insurance is through this place so I am going to have to pay way more. Thanks willamette dental for costing me more money Update, I called members service's because I took them to another ortho since I never received a call back surprise. The new ortho said he need braces ASAP. Overbite cross bite and a few teeth were lodged because he didn't have enough room. How strange that his own dentist does not find it important to even schedule an appointment but another dentist says it's urgent. We have had willamette dental insurance for a few years. We were going to the Durham location and they are caring and professional. But, we recently moved to Salem. I have a broken crown that I was supposed have fixed a few months ago, but you know.. Life, buying a house, moving. I have put it off. Recently, I have had discomfort, swelling, fatigue, nauseous.. I am also type 1 diabetic and my blood sugar has been uncontrollable and very high. I stopped in to this office yesterday afternoon about 2:30. I knew I couldn't be seen then, but was told if I can come back today, at 7:00 AM, they would work me in. I was there at 6:53. At about 8, I was taken back for an X-ray then sent back out to the waiting room. Countless patients came in, got called back with in 5 mins of showing up.. One persons appointment had been canceled and she didn't get the voice mail message, and she was called back within ten minutes. Did I mention that this tooth is a upper moral? A tooth infection can easily lead to a brain infection. Did I mention that I told the receptionist that I have a health condition that needs to considered when treating me. At 9:15, I was now in serious pain, I had not eaten anything except a protein shake. I asked the lady upfront if she could ask how much longer it would be. When she returned she informed me that "no one could say how much longer as it depends on how long the scheduled patients will take and that it will likely be a few more hours....at the least.." No one ever asked how I was doing. No one ever, kept me posted. No one in that office gave a crap about me or my condition or my health. At 9:30 am, I walked out to my car and drove away, back home. I currently am without health insurance due to starting a new job otherwise I would have gone to the ER or another dentist. I only have this crap dental insurance through my husbands employer. I have been resting on the couch , been taking Motrin and swishing with Lysterine.. Self treating and praying it won't get worse....Not one person called to check on me after I left today...Clearly, the Dentist has complete lack of compassion and concern for his patients. Completely. OR, he was NEVER made aware of my condition, and health history. I am 51 years old and this is/was by far, the WORST experience of my life. ZERO compassion. If I had any choice I would not ever go to this company. Provided by my wife's work and my company doesn't provide dental. We have had coverage with them for a couple years now and it is amazing to me how poor their customer service is. And I'm talking about customer service from the main office, as well as the local office and quality of dentistry. Both of my sons have had orthodontic work done. several times now they have not let us get on the schedule for an appointment after a ortho appointment while at the office and then when we call up, the appointment isn't available for 3 months. This morning we get a call that the doctor is sick and we'll need to reschedule. Guess what, another month with no progress. I've had a cap put on there after having a little bit of pain. Apparently my tooth was cracked according to one doctor. They discovered this at one appointment. I went in for the procedure a few weeks later and it was a new doctor scheduled for the procedure. She looked at the tooth and the xray and walked out to talk to the diagnosing doctor because she couldn't see any reason for the procedure. He came in and showed her something and she was like "OK, I guess if you think that needs a whole new cap." I should have cancelled right then. They do the work and make the mold for the cap. When I came back in for the permanent cap, I can tell they aren't really happy with the size of the cap but they put it on anyway. I constantly get food under the cap and have to floss the tooth any time I eat. At my next cleaning the new doctor, (Yes, they've had turnover of 3 doctors within 6 months.) says, well it doesn't fit that well, but at least this makes you floss. Plus, the slight occasional pain when drinking cold water before has turned into pain everytime I drink water. This is what happens when you take away customer choice. If you're employer tries to tell you this is good dental coverage, push back. I'd rate this as the McDonalds of Dentistry. Or maybe equal to that local Asian restaurant where you walk in and you're the only one, then it takes forever to get your menu, forever to get your water and forever to get your food then it's been cooked in old oil. read more

The absolute worst dental practice I have ever experienced. I made an appointment for my root canal to be finished and was given an appointment 7 weeks away (leaving me to deal with the discomfort of an unfinished procedure). I understood that due to the pandemic this was out of their control, except 1 week before my appointment I was called and told that they needed to reschedule my appointment for 6 weeks away. I was understandably upset about this and the girl who called to advise me of this from their scheduling department had a snotty matter of fact attitude about this inconvenience and pretty much said too bad. I didn't have much other choice so I just took the appointment 6 more weeks out. Now I just got a call today advising me that they needed to reschedule my appointment again for another 2 weeks away. I was holding off writing a review of this dental office trying to give them every chance to be good at what they do, but they are just plain bad and I'll be searching for another dental office. Save yourself the time and find another dental office that is actually interested in helping patients. read more

So my Mom's insurance coverage changed, and when she picked a new dentist she thought they might be good. Ever since she started going there it's been nothing but a head ache. Like this one time she went in for an appointment to have something done and they did not do it. They then set up an appointment several months later saying they would have to restart the process. On several occasions she was billed late fees for not paying, when in fact she did pay and had the receipts to prove it with. Talk about a waste of time, can't they keep their records strait. The front desk is horrendous. They are really rude and unfriendly. The way they treat patients is appalling. There are more stories, just not enough space. Terrible dental practice. They are only concerned about making money and care nothing for the overall health of their patients. My daughter needed her wisdom teeth removed and was in terrible pain for weeks while Willamette Dental struggled to get her scheduled. First she needed to complete x-rays when she'd just been in the week before for her yearly exam (yearly mind you. They don't follow normal procedures of every 6 months). Then management had to look over the file to approve Dr's decision. Once approved, a referral sent over to surgeons office, then scheduling acrobatics again for a CONSULTATION before she could get a later date for the actual extraction! Insane! Oh, and they want her to only extract two teeth now and wait for the other two once infection has set in......because only two of them are causing pain at this time!! So I get to pay for them out of my pocket because I think it's BS they want to put her through this whole ordeal a second time!!!!! I'm switching to a different dental group. read more

Went in for a filling today. I have been having issues with me jaw getting stuck open. It is a very scary experience for me because it does not happen that often. I went in and as the numbed me my jaw got stuck. They spent about 5-10 minutes with me to get it back. Massaging the joints in my jaw and reassuring me that it would be ok. We didn't know that would happen but it did and they handled it really well. They have me multiple breaks durning the filling to make sure I was comfortable. Also gave me a couple ice packs when I left in case my jaw hurt later. AMAZING place I don't understand how it has a low rating on here. read more

Came in with my son and they didn't check it throughly saying my son's filling is off so just need to fix it. The kid were in pain and crying all night so took him to urgent care and they said his tooth infected. Called in and they won't take him in. Terrible experience every time I went in. They would start working before I was completely numb even after I informed them I wasn't. I ended having to get a route canal from another dentist to fix a filling that they messed up. DO NOT GO HERE. My cousin who went here had a piece of a tool chip off in his gums while they were working on him and it became infected. He had to pay another dentist to remove it. read more

Hmm or the making appointments taking time off work and then waiting till your sitting in the dentist chair before they tell you they can only do 25% of your appointment because they took a couple walk-ins that day ......hmm or maybe charging for everything including their mistake so now your insurance won't pay because they are re doing work they had already performed I can honestly say I have never been to a worst dentist in my life theirs no personal touch your just a number .....or having fillings done and then complaining that your bite isn't right and they tell you to give it a couple days and you do and it hasn't changed so than you have to make an appointment again 2 weeks later for something that should have been done that same day but instead schedule appointment 2 weeks out be in pain for 2 weeks and then that's right charge for an X-ray, diagnostics fee and their service again . I don't see the point going here to have anything done when I went to a different office that actually comped my entire bill to fix the filling that fell out within 18 months of service ....all they want is your money and nothing more I called complained about being charged and was flat out told their was nothing she(manager of the office) could do about the charge so nope my entire family has since changed dentists ..... read more

We switched to WDG because of my wife's insurance. I wish we had more options. Anyways, I had them do a filling and it came out twice! Then a root canal and they were supposed to call me to have the cap put on and never did. So had to go back up to Portland area to have it re-done(so I thought). They only scheduled me for a consult! Pay a $30 co-pay and was there 10 minutes! Idk why they couldn't do the work? Called and complained and they are paying for me to go to another endodontist. It is now March and this all started in late October. By the way...... Still no cap on that tooth! read more

I haven't been to the dentist in forever, and set up an appointment at the Lancaster office. I was surprisingly shocked at how quickly they got me scheduled with my dentist, and at a time that worked very well for me. They have hours that work great with my job/school schedule. When I walked in the front desk staff was SUPER friendly, and you can tell they actually liked working there. The atmosphere was very welcoming. When I was seated in the back all the assistants, hygienist, and Doctor were very friendly and professional, they talked me through every step of the way, easing my dental fears. I was VERY impressed with the service from the Lancaster office and will definitely be going back to this location, as well as recommending their services to fellow co-workers and friends. read more

My sister and I have gone to both Willamette Dental locations. We both have had completely awful experiences. The first time my sister went in the dentist ended up leaving air pockets under her chin and in her neck. She looked like a bullfrog and my mother had to take her to the ER. The second time that she went there. She had a lady dentist who at the end of my sisters appointment prescribed her penicillin. My sister has been allergic to penicillin since she was two years old. My mother informed the dentist of that and the lady continued to argue with my mother that there was no way that she could be allergic to penicillin. The lady dentist disregarded what my mother had said and filled the prescription for penicillin anyway. Turns out, she was looking at another patients charts! My mother was livid and went back in and asked if they even got the right tooth, and they actually had to check. These incidents happened at the location out south. I went to the Lancaster location. I am not a big fan of the dentist and gas is covered by my insurance so when I went to have a filling for a cracked tooth I requested gas. After the filling was over the dentist told me that he had turned the gas off half way through the filling and that I did just fine. I don't now, if feel like if you are going to bill my insurance for gasing me then I should be gased the whole way through. To make it worse my tooth that he "fixed" looks horrible. He shaved it down so that it would catch on my top tooth and crack again, but now all three of my other bottom front teeth are catching on my top teeth and have all cracked! It is painful and has solidified my fear of dentistry. And to top all of this off when I called to make an appointment to have this fixed, the girl was super rude and unhelpful, like it was my fault their dentist messed up my teeth. I will NEVER EVER go back there. I cannot stress that enough. Please if you are considering using them as a provider, look elsewhere. Especially if you have younger ones! Hope this helps. P.S.
