Came in with a swollen face and throbbing pain. Super concerned of an infection. Doc does an xray-- gives me that juicy quote above-- and orders a tooth cleaning. Completely ignores my concerns- the obvious facial swelling and the huge sac of pus growing larger and larger in the spot I literally point to. Nah, it's nothing, bruh. Trust me, bruh. I come in the next day for a cleaning. The hygienist is great. She's very very concerned about that ever-growing lump on my gum though. Her and the receptionists both tell me to call in the next day if I experience further swelling and throbbing pain. Of course, this happened. I call in the next day. Infections like this can be life-threatening, but instead Dr. Clown ignores this... he tries to sell me a mouth guard instead. Basically tells me to kick rocks and that I'm wrong. I have to advocate with the receptionist.... pleading that I think I need drainage. I'm worried there's a deeper infection. She tells me the doctor won't budge and to try to go elsewhere. So I do. I'm able to get a second opinion at the Gentle Dental LANCASTER. The dentist there is extremely concerned with the swelling and now-massive lump. They perform an immediate drainage. Tons of pus. They suspect a deeper infection and refer me to an oral surgeon for a 3d scan of the area. This is exactly what I was advocating for. I'm not a genius... this was all pretty straight forward common sense. I feel bad for the amazing staff at Gentle Dental West Salem. They're great, and they have to deal with this alleged "dentist". If you're part of that staff- and you're reading this- please know that Dr. Clown will bring you down. If you have a patient who is advocating for themselves- then please listen to them. Know that Dr. Clown is who he is. I'd give this review 0 stars if I could, but it's 1 star for you guys.

Either that or the one receptionist was telling the other a story that was simply inappropriate for the setting. I get it might be humorous to talk about and/or watch some poor fool driving around the parking lot, but how intelligent are you to think we all out in the waiting room feel the same way!? This wasn't the bad part! That was being brought back, getting my x-rays done then just left in the chair FOR AN HOUR!! I timed it!! For any of you who think that's no big deal I would challenge you to sit in one place for that long, not being checked on and/or being given an ETA for the dentist! I get we're all busy, but I too have a job Mr dentist and I too have to budget my time! So, I walked out. 20 minutes later I got a call from a very disinterested receptionist asking if I was coming back. No apologies, nothing. Just, "They just wanted me to give you a call..." Good Lord! So, in summary, I sat or was expected to sit in a dentist chair for almost an hour and a half without anyone caring enough to stop by and explain. Their only concern, where'd the $$$$ go!? I doubt it, they'll just bill my insurance for doing nothing!

To the point where even as I child I was having panic attacks. Every dentist I had treated me like a scared little kid even up until adult hood. So I stopped going. My fillings needed replaced, I had a cracked tooth, I had a cavity or two, and I was letting my mouth go to hell all because of my fear. But then I found this office, and everything changed. Dr. Bateman and his staff treated my anxiety seriously. They offered sedation methods that calmed me down to the point of WANTING to get treatment done. His office only uses composite (the white resin) so no nasty mercury fillings. The numbing shot did not hurt at all and the drill is so much quieter than it was a few years ago. He explained what he was going to do before he did it and what it would feel like. I know most people might not need that but I definitely get anxious during dental visits. Long story short, I'm not afraid of the dentist anymore! I can't wait to go back to get my other filling done and get started on my clear aligners. Plus free whitening for life!

Dr. Duffy & his staff completely understand this and have always scheduled me for extra time so I can take "breaks" during routine care or any type of other care. In January I had my routine dental cleaning & check-up and let Dr. Duffy know I had a "lump" on the roof of my mouth. After he looked at it he said I needed to have a biopsy done & he immediately referred me to an Oral Surgeon & got me an appointment with them that day! Long story short, I had a tumor in the roof of my mouth but thankfully it was diagnosed in time & after having another surgery the pathology came back clean on all margins. I am beyond thankful that Dr. Duffy was so proactive, knowledgeable and realized the potential seriousness of the situation. They showed me what I was doing wrong and my teeth and my gums have never been so healthy. They won't scare you into getting any unnecessary work. My hygienist takes her time when she cleans my teeth every 6 months and I never feel like a number. They take very good care of me and my husband's teeth. I highly recommend them!!!
