They had cockpits that my grandkids could get into and feel like they were learning how to be a pilot, full-blown planes, and the biggest hanger I've ever been in in my life. All the exhibits are really great; such as the model WW2 scenes, you could see that had been someone's pet project and they had put a lot of time into it; the women of the Holocaust was haunting; the antique tractors and plane engines. Probably one of great best things were all the cockpits you could sit in and play with the knobs and dials. I've been to a lot of air museums, and never had the opportunity like this before. They had a good selection of planes inside and outside the hangar, although the tomcat was being painted so couldn't go near it. I see on the website that the hangar has sustained damage in a storm and they're asking for donations...please help them preserve some of this important history!

You can spend plenty of time reading the story boards and watching some lengthy videos of the history of the area, including the growth of the local fishing and lumbering trade. They are quite informative and there are small benches where you can sit while you watch. The second floor is devoted to the story of the discovery of the Columbia River in 1792 by an American captain, Robert Gray. His mention of this discovery was the catalyst that ultimately inspired President Jefferson to send Lewis and Clark off on their now famous expedition, culminating in the discovery of the Columbia River meeting the Pacific Ocean, in 1805. There are fun, interactive displays to keep the kids interested, and there are a lot of well chosen items in the small gift shop that are kid-pleasing and educational, too. I have to add a disclaimer. Many of the artifacts appear to be replicas, but the displays are still fascinating. And if you are unable to do stairs, there is a back entrance to accommodate disabilities. This is a fun thing to do while everyone else is off in Tillamook sampling cheese, cheese, and more cheese while going brain dead.

If you're into the last century's pop history, this is a great place to see some bygone ephemera. We had free admission, thanks to a grant that the organization received. There are restrooms available on the main floor. There are three stories of artifacts and historical area information. They have a quite large natural history room with a large variety of animals on the 3rd floor. They have old cars in the basement, along with old appliances, radios, typewriters, cameras, blacksmith tools and forestry history. The main floor has a lot of information and photos of Tillamook founders and local industry information and artifacts. Tons of stuff to see...too much to list in this review. Overall we really enjoyed our visit! Would definitely recommend.

It's in a beautiful, historic building, upon a hill with views of the Coast Range, Mary's Peak, and the Cascades. The people are friendly- after all, "philo" translates from the Greek as "friendship." As a museum, it's OK. As noted by another Yelper, it's more posters than actual exhibits and artifacts. Oregon is rich in history, but sadly, you're better off playing Oregon Trail.

Turns out I was onto something though as the reason this town bears this name is because of this building which was a college that was known for its Philosophy and Math programs. It's since been turned into a historical society and museum with research library on local history. They put out fascinating displays of clothing, quilts, photographs and other artwork. It's a mix between a museum and a cultural center, as well as an integral part of the preservation of Oregon and this area's history. Defnitely worth a stop!

It's a beautiful area within the Cultural District. The museum itself is easy to navigate, it's well-curated, and well-designed. There are several outdoor pavilions - the doors to which are contact free (you just wave to open them). My only complaint is the "All User" bathrooms which lack privacy and feel awkward to use. The Hockey exhibit is worth seeing - as is the Rothko collection, NW, and european collections. The Vancouver Art Museum may want to take note...
