Visited on a Thursday with a group of 5 and enjoyed it! Did an indoor wine tasting because that was what was available and then we walked around on our own to look at the vineyard. We especially enjoyed the red wines served in our flight and appreciated the description of the history of each wine and what food it might pair vest with. The staff were warm and welcoming as well. A sweet surprise for us was seeing some dogs running around the vineyard. However, dogs are not allowed inside so be cognizant of that if you are traveling with pets. There was high top and couch seating so a variety of seating options depending on what you're looking for! read more

Very beautiful property and very nice experience doing a wine tasting. The woman leading our tasting was really kind and knowledgeable. It's clear they've become quite commercial though. Overall not really a big fan of this winery from my Fredericksburg trip this time around- I think there are better wineries that would be more worth your time. Most annoying thing though at the end we went to the pavilion to sit and enjoy the weather and ended up spending $40 on a cheese board (we asked for it with no meat, they still charged us full price and didn't add more cheese or anything) I really wish I had taken a picture of it. It was such a pitiful quantity and they didn't tell us the price before they charged us. It's clear their focus is making money over anything. read more

Hands down one of the best wineries in the Texas Hill Country. It's one of the first wineries I have been to where I like several of their wines. Their venue has amazing views and the staff is always friendly. I ended up joining their wine club which is worth it and has great perks like free tastings in their members only room and discounted wine and merch. I recently went to their Spring Crawfish Boil event (open to non-members) with a group of friends and we had a blast. We stayed the night in Fredericksburg and hired a shuttle to take us to Hye (there were 7 of us). It was a nice getaway. I can't wait for the next wine pick-up party! read more

Worst service for first time using my membership. Fiancé and took photos in Bourne, TX then wanted to use our membership for a nice glass of wine and tacos. Tacos were supposed to be ready for at noon. Asked for a bottle of water to share with the table. Was told I was welcomed to come back and get a small wine glass to go of water as many times as I wanted. Then the same person delivered 4 bottles of water to a party. Finally after waiting a hour for tacos asked when they would be ready since we just came for a quick lunch and a glass of wine. Was told 15 more minutes and the lady would serve of us first. Waited another 45 minutes and my fiancé got back in line to order again. The tacos weren't even what we asked for. We were very disappointed and waited 2 hours for something we didn't order. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Granted we went on a day that winds were occurring but customer service is not a priority for this vineyard. We to a buy a sample which they consider a "glass" their glasses of wine are served in a plastic cup, and the wine servings were approximately 3 to 4 ounces. From my own experience a glass of wine goes from 6 oz to 9 oz. This is below average. I understand that inclement weather what's happening, But from other experiences they could've stayed here at a small bottle for your inconvenience or here is a come back free first two wines tastings are free or small things like that..... other than take your wine (sample 4oz) and go find a place to sit in our case we had to stand. On the other hand, a very known winery 6 miles down the road they really made our experience worth it. After that treatment (we treat better if you become a member) I would not come back not even if I was offered a case. Quiet honestly, how can anyone become a member like than. read more

Please avoid if you have any melanin in your skin whatsoever! These people were stiff and boring and clearly did not like us in their establishment. Our wine person had no personality. Everyone looked at us like we were aliens in there. And their wine was overpriced for the rest of the area. Mediocre at best. We will never return! read more

And the flavors..... you guys..... the amount of passion and love that William and Chris put into these wines are carried through the taste. This is a very nice winery with great views, but the staff was not all that friendly. Additionally, they are not dog friendly inside, so keep that in mind if you want to do a tasting. They do not offer tastings in their outdoor area. So, if you brought your furry friend, be prepared for that. There is limited seating outside, especially on a busy day. read more

So we enjoyed the beautiful views, the wine was amazing, and the extra cheeseboard that we purchased was a delicious compliment to the experience. Unfortunately our tasting was not a good experience. The gentleman giving the tasting all but completely ignored my husband and I. There was only one other couple at our tasting, so his audience was small, which made it that much more awkward and uncomfortable. He talked an awful lot about his recent medical procedures, to the point that I would say we know as much about him as we do the wine. We went to a couple other wineries over the weekend and our tasting experiences were much more enjoyable compared to William Chris. While the views were beautiful, the service was lacking. read more

I have to say, this winery changed my opinion on Texas red wines! I have never been a big fan, but William Chris, who sources grapes only from Texas, had great wines. I especially loved their petite syrah, but the mourvedre and tannat were very nice as well. Wd did the barrel tasting with Dusty and it was excellent. It's amazing to taste the same wine one year different from the other and note the difference in color, structure, nose, etc. This winery has me rethinking going to Napa down the road, it's 4 hours from Dallas and well worth the trip!!! read more

Since writing my first review, I've come to accept that the days of spontaneously dropping in for a Hill Country weekend wine tasting are over. This time I decided to look at William Chris through new eyes - by purchasing an advance ticket to one of their special events. The hog and goat roast featured plenty of scenic outdoor seating and a band playing on a flatbed truck. I ordered a bottle of their Mourvedre, a mellow red wine that was perfect for a warm summer day. It paired well with the goat taco, roasted hog taco, mac & cheese and slaw. Overall a nice time. The adding food has been a very welcome, albeit limited, addition. William Chris has now been upstaged by Alexander Vineyards and Lewis Vineyards for the top rankings in the hill country. The hill country used to be a place filled with horrible wine so you picked the place that was the most fun. Now there is actually some competition and wine makers are coming in and showcasing their experience. William Chris is becoming very popular and I understand why. It has a beautiful location and they keep expanding their facilities. That said, I wouldn't say their wine is as good as Lewis, Kuhlman, or Alexander (note: Alexander is made in France) but it's a nice option. We've been to William Chris before and it was a great experience. However, yesterday my party of 4 had a much difference experience for our reserved food-paired tasting. The waiter we were assigned (he didn't give his name but he was wearing a backwards baseball cap) stopped by to fill our water glasses and then disappeared for a half an hour to sit and drink wine with a couple who were obviously members (or his parents). He returned briefly to drop off the food and recited a few scripted lines before disappearing again. This would be a one star review if it weren't for a lovely person named Kaylie (sp) who salvaged the visit for us. The winery has a lovely tasting room and the grounds are superb (wines are great too). Just be prepared to be ignored if you're not already a member or are unlucky enough to get this guy. read more

Lovely wines for Texas, and lovely wines in general. But expensive compared to the quality for price in import wines. If you must have Texas wine, they do it extremely well. Much better value in Mediterranean varietals like Sangiovese, Mourvedre, Tempranillo and Cinsault by purchasing wine from...well...the Mediterranean. Tasting room is lovely. Why the 2 stars? Wine club policies are rigid, and the staff drive a hard line in enforcing them. Considering how much wine is on the market and many choices consumers have, it's pretty surprising that they were willing to go so far as to say "We looked up our marketing emails and it shows you read them so sorry, no refunds." Meanwhile, I tracked through all my emails from them and deleted ones, and sent a screenshot. I received nothing on the dates they claimed. The fact I was even having this exchange with them was absurd. After several back-and forth involving my sending screenshots from my email to show I had nothing from them on the dates they insisted I "read" their emails, they cancelled/refunded my February club wines. How does it normally go with a wine club if an email was not received or viewed, or overlooked, or changed mind, or I'd rather buy some burgundy this month? ME: Hey, this is Bob your club member. I see you just charged my card 5 minutes ago for my spring shipment. Can you hold that? I have lots of wine on hand already." THEM: Sure! We haven't shipped. Catch you next time. I suspect William Chris will post a response about their systems, processes, I had already cancelled once and was told of the policy in December, all is made clear in the fine print, you can cancel by logging in to do so, blah blah. (Yes, I asked to cancel my December shipment because I had been to the winery weeks earlier and bought a full case and asked that my onsite purchase be counted as my December club purchase.) Nobody NEEDS $45 Texas Mourvèdre. Lovely ones come from France for $25. It's great that WC is producing noteworthy Texas wine. But for their prices, if they can't operate with the same level of flexibility and graciousness as a club in Sonoma/Napa, the romance of high quality TX wine just does not substantiate the $. read more

My 2nd time here! The last stop of this trip ended with a return trip to WC Vineyard at the direct invite of Chris himself to allow me to experience a library tasting with a group of others. Rachel and Natasha accompanied me on this unique, exclusive library reserve tasting experience. A smaller private room in the back of the main tasting room held our seats in a room that truly looks like a wine library. Tables were set up with flights of wine, a food pairing tray and a tasting notes sheet. Our goal was to taste 3 wines in 3 flights and see which one we thought was the WC wine an which 2 were from other countries but used the same grape. Way fun! Kelsey Kramer was our guide and host for the event and she nailed it! Super smart on every aspect of the wines we had as well as what to look for, pair with, think of...she knew the wines inside and out. Very kind and polished in her presenting and explaining of the wines as well. Our group of 10 in total had a wonderful time tasting, talking, comparing notes, guessing the wines, etc. One of a kind experience I suggest anyone try and do at least once. My favorites of the tasting were the Wanderer Series 2017 Rhone Blend and the 2016 Petit Verdot. Rachel, Natasha, and I all found the cheese, chocolate pairings to be spectacular as well! read more

Just returned home from another wonderful afternoon at William Chris. This is my happy place. I love it so much I became a member and now visit six times a year for wine pick-up. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the winery itself is clean and tastefully designed. Pick-up parties are a lot of fun, and I love the seasonally themed parties! Though some are better than others (depending on your taste), I've never tried a wine here I didn't like... especially the Mary Ruth! Mary Ruth, you my best girl! Grab a group of friends, pack a picnic, and spend an afternoon here. You won't be disappointed. read more

Like many others, we weren't aware that you need a reservation to taste here. We didn't make a reservation (there were only two of us and I didn't even think that would require a reservation) but they told us we could hang out on the back patio and buy by either the glass or the bottle. The bartender let us sample a few things before we decided on a glass. I tried a red that was served chilled. I don't remember the name of it, but it wasn't bad. It wasn't amazing or anything, but it wasn't bad. The back patio was a chill place to hang out. It was a warm day, but not too hot. They also had free bottled water in a cooler. There was a family sitting next to us and they brought out toys for the kids so the adults could adult and not have to entertain. The other bartender stopped by to say hello and he was pretty cool. I don't remember his name, but he was a younger gentleman. We didn't buy bottles to go or anything because we didn't get to taste their other offerings and we didn't need a bottle of what we had. 3.5 read more
