One of the world's top fifty wineries! According to some wine snob, these guys are in the top fifty! I can't say whether that's true or not, but what I can tell you is that they have some of the best views of the Hill Country, some of the most delicious subtle red wines on 290. These guys have been making wine and growing vineyards all their lives, so the story goes, and they got together and started cranking out the wines! The place is rustic, but vast! There's so many places to hang out here- there's different pavillions, wine drinking areas, different giant oak trees to hang out under- there's just so many places to explore. It'd be a perfect place for an event, where you could take over one of their patios! The staff was really nice, and super enthusiastic about their wines. You could tell they've given the same speech a million times, but they still enjoy chatting about the wines. They had live music when we went- a talented guitarist, which paired nicely with the delicious wines. They have an indoor tasting room, where you can go through all the various flavors and styles of wines. It's interesting, on the walls are samples of the dirt that grew the various wines. You can contemplate the terrior as you drink the wines. They've really thought ahead here- they also offer charcuterie supplies and even some basic meats and cheeses in the gift shop. Parking is easy, there's a dedicated lot. My only complaint around here about this place was the odors around their restroom facilities. Ugh. read more

I have waited quite a long time to get out to this vineyard. The day finally came this past weekend. We were greeted with a glass of wine as we walked up ...love it. We then continued to the taste testing. I liked the idea but the execution was lacking. They have a large indoor space. The young lady knew a lot, but we felt rushed. It was a little impersonal especially given they had asked up front during the online reservation why we were visiting. The price was high for five 1oz glasses. When we finished we grabbed a bottle and sat outside at a table. Tempranillo is my fav! Beautiful views of hill country and vineyards. Lots of outdoor seating. Good country music at a good volume .. not so loud we could both converse. We had a large cheese plate with bread and meat. Really good cheeses. There was six half slices of salami (hmmm what?). The website led me to believe you had to make a reservation. Now I know we can just buy a bottle and sit outside. read more

Not one bad wine in their tasting menu and Living in the Napa wine country and CA Central Coast all my life, wine is definitely something I have grown to know well. Very good customer service as soon as we walked in was immediately greeter with a tasting glass. We had a good experience only reason they didn't get 5 stars is there are some points of improvement but let these points not take away from the great time we had and the good quality of wines! Points improvement: 1) we bought a bottle of rose to drink on the grounds and we're not given a bucket with ice to keep it cool. 2) we bought the bottle of white after tasting a Zinfandel and we're not offered clean glasses switching from a dark red to a white is common practice to offer clean glasses. 3) we were suggested to take plastic cups with our bottle. Plastic? Never ever have I been offered plastic at any winery in my life. If you know anything about wine glasses, wine tastes different dependent on the glass you use. Definitely a practice I would recommend to discontinue. Plastic takes the class out of the whole experience. 4) pours were on the lighter side. read more

Beautiful scenery, wonderful wine, and warm, friendly staff members. Definitely a good stop! William Chris has a very Texas, Hill Country feel, with a rustic, country look throughout the facility. There is plenty of outside seating on a large deck, on the lawn, and in a large (event-sized) pavilion. Tastings take place inside at bars (standing, unless seating is specifically requested). The tasting room - and the rest of the vineyard - has pretty views of the vineyards and hills. The wines are wonderfully varied. My favorites were the reds - Hunter especially, but Enchantee was good and Artistry _with cheese_ was excellent too. (Artistry on its own was okay, but the combo with the cheese elevated it.) A few of the wines used Mouvedre grapes - I hadn't heard of this type of grapes before, but they seem to be popular in Hill Country wines these days, especially in blends. I wasn't enamored with the wines that were heavy on these grapes, but they were okay. We purchased a cheese board to go with our tasting, which came with two hard cheeses, salami and pepperoni, cornichons, cottage cheese and dried apricots, pickled peppers, salted almonds, flavorful crackers, and local honey. It was wonderful! The staff is warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. We had wonderful storytelling by our staffer, Jodi, about the owners and the history/origin of the vineyard. read more

Service was pleasant and a beautiful place to sit and sit a glass. Tastings are only dry reds. Too hot for me to drink dry red so I had a glass of their only white. $12 for about two fingers (slightly more than a taste). Food is packaged in the store cooler. I didn't want prepackaged food so I skipped it but it didn't look bad. At least they had something to offer. Lovely place. They are introducing a new white on Saturday so I'll come back and try the new white. read more

Had no idea what a special day this would turn into when we visited yesterday! I came with my mom and husband - we were total first timers who wandered into the wrong tasting area and rather than be turned away we were treated to what felt like a VIP experience by Francisco who entertained us for hours. It's clear he loves what he does- he was full of knowledge and passion about the grapes, the land, the history, and the meaning of a great glass of wine. He even taught me how to uncork a bottle of their delicious rose with a sword! (No joke!) The grounds are beautiful and full of things to see and do, the food is delicious, and the wine is top notch. Even if the wine was terrible (which, quite the opposite, it's the best Texas wine I've ever had) we would come back for Francisco's service alone. what an incredible experience! the 5 of us did a tasting with nancy and she took great care of us. she was really friendly and informative. we LOVED the wines and ended up buying 8 bottles. we also paid extra for an accompanying meal and it was delicious. it came with a hearty sandwich, carrot + potato salad, cookies and seltzer. the grounds are beautiful and they had a live band playing outside. there are many wineries to choose from in the area but i'm glad i ended up at william chris! read more

This is me and the wife's current go to vineyard - the only one we are currently members. The wine is great! I really like the Mourvèdre and also even though I prefer reds they have several dry whites that I really like! We love the location - especially the large outdoor pavilion. There is also a large grassy area for kids to play and they have tables set up under some trees which looked like a fun spot.Pre-pandemic there would be a guitar player on the pavilion but it looks like that moved under the trees which is cool! We had been here a few times but joined the club because of the virtual tastings they did during quarantine. The owners seem super nice and all of the staff have been fantastic too! Especially Kyo who helped us last weekend. I also give this place bonus points because a lot of the staff are Aggies. read more

I absolutely loved this stop on our wine tour. It was definitely one of my favorites. They have enough staff even with covid to ensure that everyone has a personal experience. Our group felt very welcomed. They have a large wine selection and are generous with their tastings and deals for those packages as well. We received a discount for our case of wine and learned that the more you buy the better the deal. In addition to the great onsite prices this vineyard is one of the only vineyards that will ship out of state to a residential location. This was perfect because we had a large party that flew in from multiple locations. Some of the wines have a great story/history behind them, like the artist blend bottle, so make sure you ask the staff all about them. There was one attendant in particular whom was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and personable. I forgot her name but I did manage to get a picture of her so I'll be sure to share it. My favorite winery, we stumbled upon this winery about 5+ years ago. My husband decided to surprise me and check out all the wineries , as I didn't even know what Fredericksburg and Hye were all about since I'm from Northern VA . They made us feel like home every time we walk in . We have done the grape punch for my birthday celebration one year and that was definitely awesome to see how they make and process their wine . We are HYE members which is amazing because you get to feel even more special when you are there or even when you aren't . You get to attend private events and it's something you don't want to miss . The best one we've been to is the ROSÈ ALL DAY in horseshoe bay ! Definitely grab a couple of bottles of Enchantè ,one of my favorites ! Would highly recommend coming here & order and cheese tray while you are at it. read more

This Vineyard was beautiful and there were photo opportunities on every corner of the property. I did have a couple of minor concerns. The guy helping us out on the pavilion was new and wasn't really ready to handle the influx that brings the weekend winos out. It probably took about ten minutes per couple/ per person to get their drinks & order food. Another thing that was disappointing was that both restrooms for men & women were not in service. The weekends bring the masses, those are the days when you need to be on your A+ Game. The Chicken Salad could definitely use an overhaul as well because it was a little tasteless & bland. This place gets business and the scenery is gorgeous, they just need to have adequate staff, clean restrooms, and perhaps a kitchen / food overhaul to ensure patrons keep coming back! read more

Our neighborhood had little wine tasting tour of the TX hill country and this was one of two vineyards we stopped out. We had coordinated earlier that we were bringing 40 people on the day of our tour and they said they would offer us the wine tasting tour prices, this was not the case. We arrived and it was like they were not expecting us. Our guide talked to the manager and basically said this was the first they heard about it. Evidently the information wasn't passed to the proper people. We were very disappointed as they only offered to sell us by the glass/bottle/case and didn't offer is any wine tasting. So we made the best of our time as several of us ordered a glass of wine and a cheese/meat plate. We enjoyed sitting out on what was a gorgeous day and enjoyed the hill country views while sipping wine and enjoying a game of Corn Hole. I would have giving this place 4 stars if they would have accommodated us and actually allowed us to conduct wine tasting at their group / "club" prices. The grounds at William Chris Vineyards are impressive to say the least. Tucked back down a little road across from the town general store in Hye, TX this vineyard is expansive and beautiful. The outdoor covered tasting patio is a perfect spot to setup and relax. The indoor tasting room has a few tasting spots to hold up with one of their staff and go through a more formal tasting. Their knowledgeable staff is able to effortlessly guide you through a tour of tastes. Don't forget to get a cheese board and some other small bites to pair with your wines. You'll appreciate both a lot more for it. If you don't want to deal with the noise of all the vineyards in Fredericksburg but want to try something better than the rest head on to William Chris. If you're a whiskey drinker also pop across the way to Garrison Brothers Bourbon Distillery in Hye and do some tastings and a tour. You won't be disappointed. read more

Today Not So User Friendly... We've been going to Napa for 4 decades. We understand tasting room mentality. William Chris today was one of those, I'm sorry you don't have a reservation, you can't come in. It's Friday mid afternoon, it's Covid, and very few are here. We are greeted by a pleasant lady who stated they can't except any walk ups. Huh? We've just been to smaller venue and then a larger venue today, no problem... come on in. So we politely say goodbye and move on. We have purchased their product in the past but, came in with French Connection friends and a month ago we didn't hit the snafu reservation.
