This was the most recently acquired vineyard in the family. We wanted to check this place out because they were not available when we first moved here. They apparently revamped the entire space and looks modernized. We came here for tasting first, like their other locations, you're allowed to taste up to four of their wines of your choosing. They have a mix of Texas and California grown wines that are processed in their facility. Eve was our tasting ambassador and she did a great job going through each wine and going through the recent changes in their premium memberships. They also have a restaurant on site that only take walk-ins for members only. Their outdoor patio space was also really, really nice with a view of their vineyards. We were disappointed they were out of some of their appetizers but we made do with the options they had available. All their food was great but their ahi tuna wontons were bomb in particular. This is their only kid-friendly and dog friendly location so we'll consider bringing our dog next time. read more

Super cute spot ! Love the wine there and the ambiance with the fire places and the deck upstairs! The service was pretty good although we ordered a bottle of rose and it came out warm and he even brought us a chiller to keep it in but that was also warm ! he did bring us a new one after we called him over to tell him about it . The bruschetta Board was a bit strange as it's fruit and sweet on a ton of lettuce that is wasted because no one eats that part and not an original one with tomatoes and cheese.Probably wouldn't get that again and will try something else. Only giving three stars because of the wine is really good but first experience wasn't great. read more

My Wife and I go to Fredericksbug quite often. Wine is somewhat of a hobby for us. We have found K Estate to be one of the best. Especially the whites. The grounds are very nice and relaxing. Why the change, and if you follow my reviews, I don't like doing this. I have been blessed to have been able to travel the world. My back ground early on in life working for one of the finest hotel chains gave me the bug for the finer things in life. So I can be tough at times to please. Kuhlman was a locally owned boutique vineyard that I belonged to for years. This last year, they were bought by Grape Creek. They also had acquired another venue I had belonged but I have since terminated both. And this is why.... I had a long history with Grape Creek and sadly over the years it just kept getting worse and worse. Because of the 290 corridor and the various bus tours his success has been the masses. However, his purchase of another venue didn't offer the same experience because loyal members LEFT. As we left Kuhlmans. And I just heard a couple last week at Chases Place say how they were treated and nothing has changed. I had a table reserved at Stouts. I remember when that restaurant was the only thing between Fredericksburg and JC. Anyway, we met a couple and invited them to join us. NOPE. They were not members. They use to sale a large selection of "slim jim" style meat snacks. I would buy $290 to $300 worth and PAY to have them shipped to my father every birthday, father's day, and Christmas. One day, I am told, "we aren't doing this, it's not worth my time". I responded neither is your f****** wine and voided the entire case the lady was boxing up. Sadly, my experience is not alone. And don't even get me started on the fact that their is a women who is rights down the road who makes a sparkling TEXAS wines. I asked 5 times the last two years we were members to speak to the owner. I am good friends with the owners of several Vineyards. It finally realized that he doesn't care about his members. He gets so many coming through on the tour bases that it doesn't matter if people enjoy the experience. Because the majority of them buy and then have it shipped. So no. Why am going to stick around? Be loyal to someone who didn't give a crap before. And again, I am not the only one. I have heard the same story from others. Great tours, but as others like Ron Yates, William Chris, Last Draw, and others continue their success. They will offer tours just as nice. read more

This was our first stop as we came into Fredericksburg. We were warmly greeted and really enjoyed our time at the estate. We did a tasting that included wine with a food taste pairing. We were blown away at how delicious the food pairings were and also liked the wine a lot. What a great introduction into the Texas wine region! They were doing construction so I don't feel we got a good "feel" for the ambiance but we would definitely come back if ever in the area again. read more

Unfortunately, Kuhlmann sold out to a corporate group. The experience is completely different. It is entirely corporatized and doesn't feel at all like what we would want to find in a Texas Hill Country winery. We also got a rather hard sell to join the wine club, which we have never felt before at any other of our favorites along 290. The whole thing had sort of a Walmart feel and that's just not who we are. If some people like it, that's great, and we wish them well. read more

We did a tasting at K Estate on New Year's Day and had a fantastic experience. Chuck was outstanding--engaging, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to be there. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does, and it made our visit even more memorable. We visited with our adult kids and all had a great time. In fact, we ended up joining a second Heath Family wine club thanks to Chuck and the excellent incentive they offered. A wonderful way to start the new year. This winery is the best out of all the Heath Family Brands! We love the wine stewards in the K Bistro (Josh) and tasting room (Miranda). The service we received at K Estate is far superior than Grape Creek Vineyards. I would highly recommend K Bistro before Stout's at Grape Creek Vineyards any day! Accidentally missed our turn and pulled into Kuhlman Cellars to turn around. Decided it was fate and popped in for a tasting, which ended up being wonderful! It was a drizzly Monday so hardly anyone was there, but plenty of seating regardless (mostly outdoor, overlooking the vineyard). Our host was Malachi, and we absolutely loved him - he made our trip to this winery very fun and memorable. I learned a ton about Texas wine and really enjoyed the pours. There are a few different tastings to choose from so 2 of us went with the white & rose flight while my other friend went with the red flight but we all agreed they were both good. There are an overwhelming number of wineries to visit in this area, but I can confidently say to not miss this one! read more

We were invited here for a tasting organized for a friend's birthday. This was my first experience at a Fredericksburg winery and was extremely disappointed in the customer service and overall vibe. Our friends stated this place is under some new management or was bought out, which makes sense because they all seemed to really enjoy it beforehand. For starters, the woman doing the tasting for our group insisted that we split off as couples as the tasting was done on two sides of a bar. She even chastised a friend of ours who came to our side just to greet other guests. The tasting itself felt very rushed and she really left us little to no time to interact and socialize with each other. The whole thing was a sales pitch from beginning to end. After we had finished tasting, she continued to ask each of us individually if we were going to join their wine club. When nearly everyone declined, we were instructed to clear out of the room. As we were leaving, one of the employees loudly told her coworker that we were "the worst group she'd ever had," which seemed odd as everyone was polite. The whole experience was incredibly off putting. I was hoping to enjoy a tasting and socialize with our friends, but instead felt akin to sitting through a timeshare meeting where the entire thing circled around their wine club. The wine itself was also just okay, though frankly the service and attitude itself may have impacted how I felt about the drinks. Just avoid this location. There are so many better places to go with better service and more upbeat vibe. This is definitely not a way to draw in customers. I will definitely not be coming back. read more

We had a group of 8 and when none of us joined the membership he got snippy with us and told us that we had been there an hour and needed to go. We have traveled to the Texas hills country for years we are Texas proud of the incredible improvements in wine. Unfortunately this vineyard is the most complicated we have ever tried to taste wine at. Post-Covid wine was served in pill size Dixie cups. You had no way really taste the flavor of it. We decided to give it another try but because of their rules you can't just enjoy a glass of wine, it's members only. If you are a non club member you have to pay for a tasting 1st. That is the only way to taste the wine. Unfortunately, we have not been able to taste their wine in years because of the rules. My suggestion is there are many other vineyards in this area that offer a relaxing environment to enjoy a glass of wine. Don't choose this one. read more

I'm sure food, and wine are great- however my review is focused on treatment. I understand that there are rules in place, and can agree on the importance of standing by them. HOWEVER, when your website states "walk-ins welcome, call us to book same day, we will do our best to accommodate"... and upon entering, and being looked at "up and down"and are immediately turned away, both rudely and unprofessionally with no regard. Its very difficult to walk away feeling as if this is not a "rule following situation" There was no sense of apology, " sorry we can not accommodate you" It was a flat out no. The place was empty and ONLY had two people sitting in the winery. Maybe they had many reservations...that would have possibly made things acceptable, but that was not shared. The staff was unwelcoming from the start. NOT ONE staff member greeted us, or even showed any regard. Again, I understand that there are rules... but don't falsely promote. Maybe retrain your staff, make them approachable, team them CUSTOMER SERVICE! You want to walk away feeling that ok, rules are rules... I get it. (As we would of had the staff been nicer) Instead we walked away completely feeling that we were REFUSED Service. read more

Great time had by all - wine, customer service and ambiance all good and once the upgrades are complete it's gonna be awesome.

This was my second visit to K Estate as a member. We went today to try the bistro and pick up my allocation. The food took way too long to come to the table. We were served by Josh who appeared to be overwhelmed and rushed the entire time. He did comp our hummus that came out with our entrees which we appreciated. I'm not sure that I'll keep this membership. As a member, you want to feel welcomed and appreciated which I have not felt at either visit. This place feels more like they are trying to herd cattle and rush people through. read more

This was such a treat to come to and sample their wines and eat some food paired with what we were sampling. The winery was off 290 and what a welcoming place to come. We were greeted with smiles and a choice to sit inside or outside. Everyone was knowledgeable about the wines and food on the menu. I especially enjoyed the 2017 Gypsum and 2019 Barranca. The prices are very reasonable. My friend loved the 2021 Estate White. The food was really tasty as well and it went nicely with the wines. This will be a wi wry I would recommend to anyone coming to visit the Fredericksburg hill country. read more

On June 6th I visited the Grape Creek Winery with friends for a girl's trip. Two of us became members, and Eve told us that we needed to stop by the Kuhlman estate Sunday for their grand opening, and to get a free bottle of wine. Eve said each member that brings a guest gets a free bottle. We made noe of this and everyone said we needed to stop by because that was such a fun idea. On June 8th we arrived at the Kuhlman Estate, and it went downhill fast. We were immediately told we were wrong about the free bottle. The staff said condescending things like, "If we gave everyone a free bottle of wine, we would go broke." We explained how we were told is was only for members with a guest on this day, and that is why we drove that way home. How did all four of us hear the same thing? Instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, they were rude and belittling. The atmosphere is stuffy and inauthentic. Being a 5th generation native Texan, I would say this is the WORST WINERY I have even stepped foot in. The building is cold, uncomfortable, stuffy, and just plain inauthentic. Don't bother stopping here. There are so many wonderful wineries, and this place won't welcome you or be a good experience. Hopefully the managers and/or owner reads this so they can train their staff appropriately. read more

The wines weren't our favorites but the views were great. Also, try and buy the rosemary roasted almonds. Those are the BEST! They are pricey but they are delicious. So disappointed in this place, my girlfriends and I were ready to celebrate my bachelorette weekend when we were rudely turned away. When entering we were not greeted, we were looked at up and down with such disgusted eyes by the staff. We asked to be seated, they refused, we asked to purchase a glass of wine or a bottle also refused. We feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome, so we left. I have never been treated this way I would never come back. I HIGHLY recommend that no one comes to this establishment. Save yourself the embarrassment. Beautiful winery and and great wines. We truly enjoyed our wine tasting and food pairing. The food was delicious. We ended up liking the goat cheese bite so much we got an order of it (and those amazing almonds to go). After our tasting, my friend decided we would do a custom rose tasting (we ordered a glass of each of their roses) and that was a lot of fun. Why rose? She's a red wine drinker and I'm a white, it's our middle ground. I would happily pay the $30 for this food and wine pairing in the beautiful atmosphere. read more

We were then told that the wine tasting area was full and we'd need to wait 20 minutes. For only 3 people. No way! The place was dead. We came on a winery tour and they set the standard!! Mike was a great host. He was so knowledgeable and approachable. He definitely seemed to enjoy his job. The food pairings were perfect! I stepped out of my box and tried everything including the asparagus (1st pairing) and the radish thing (2nd pairing). The wines married perfectly. We had lunch upstairs with a gorgeous view of the vines. I left my sheet with notes from the tasting so I guess we'll have to come back! But we'll be back regardless. read more

Nice touch at this winery! Small enough to engage with staff and not feel like a transaction. We were guests of a paired tasting. About 12 guests were given a hands on in-depth verbal tour of the menu choices and why they were chosen with the type of wines. The reds were vibrant, hints of blackberry, vanilla, oak flavors. The tart and tri-tip truly enhanced the flavors. 5 pairings: asparagus & strawberry, herbed almonds, chilled broccoli soup, rosemary ham & Gruyère tart, tri-tip Brie & pickled onions on dried mini toast. Top picks: Rosemary almonds! Vina Vita red! The Gruyère tart tasted fantastic with the red wines. Do yourself a favor and buy a jar of rosemary toasted almonds. I've made these before at home but the convenience of buying them in bulk to drink with my purchase later on was worth it. We've been snacking on these all week. read more

We came here for a tasting during spring break 2021. It was after Governor Abbott had opened up Texas and removed the mask mandate. With that being said, the staff was still operating in "Covid-mode." The indoor tasting room was still closed. The "sommelier" (I use that term loosely) wasn't that helpful with the wines and wasn't that knowledge of the area. She did point out the various areas in the vineyard and described the wines that they make from each area. The wines they offered on the red flight were average. Our favorite was their 2017 Marl. The overall winery was average. Due to the winds the upper area was closed. Bottom line - Average wine, average grounds, average review. Bon appétit, y'all. read more

Food and wine experience is very worth booking ahead. It's held in the barrel room, a cool break from the Texas heat, and is not only very attractive, but smells like a wine cellar should. Nicely laid out with 4 tables of 2 surrounding the host. Very well organized and wonderfully hosted. Was quite impressed with the wines; we've been to a lot of Texas wineries, and only one or two others rise to Kuhlman's level. Also very much respect the only Texas grapes approach. Ended up buying one or more each of the 7 we tasted, and couldn't leave without some of their famous (well deserved) almonds as well. Will definitely be regulars, and highly recommend. read more

Kuhlman Cellars has really expanded since our first visit. A new tasting room features views of the vineyard and a breezy, shaded rooftop patio. Wine club members get complimentary tastings each time they visit. The Signature tasting, led by a knowledgable and engaging sommelier, is a fun but more structured introduction to four of their wines paired with creative small bites. You will be seated around a large table with other wine lovers. The Garden tasting features the same wines and small bites, but in a more casual setting at your own table. Herbed almonds should come with a warning label because they're absolutely addictive. Occasional ticketed dinners give attendees a chance to experience the wines with a gourmet meal. If you are going on a wine tour in the Texas Hill Country, just drive on by. If you are not a member of Kuhlman don't even think about stopping for a casual lunch or a nice glass of wine. It was like going to a car lot and instead of selling you a car, they try to sell you a membership. We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to stop by Kuhlman to grab lunch and some wine. We hosted Kuhlman wine at our wedding reception and we also just love the whole feel of the winery. Our in-laws were in from Chicago and also a dear friend. Total of 5. We arrived on Sunday 5 minutes before it opened. The staff were all eating their lunch and with full mouth of box fried chicken said they would be with us in a moment. We sat down and let the guy know we would like to order lunch and a couple bottles of wine. He went back and asked if we were members we told him no but we used to be and long story short we couldn't eat lunch, order wine unless we were members. The guy who was telling our waiter to tell us could not even come out from eating chicken to tell us in person. Kuhlman is going thru renovation and it isn't even the same. Before you go beware of the. "rules". Go to their website. Their wines are not even Texas wines anymore they are from California. Kuhlman has recently been bought by another winery and we were told by another winery that all of the people who used to work at Kuhlman quit. Our party knows why. I guess they are doing so well that they didn't need our business. Not only did they lose out on our business when we were turned away, they also lost out on future business from our friends and family. There are many more wineries in Fredericksburg that are much worthy of the perfect wine trip. Kuhlman is not one of them. read more

My friend and I each had a glass of their wine in a local restaurant and knew we had to make time to visit them. We were hosted by the very charming and knowledgeable Malachi. He knows his wines and he made our experience very rich and enjoyable. We loved the view, the story of the winery, the wines, and of course those almonds.
