I'm so glad we were able to get this fixed before the overheating caused a much more expensive repair. PG&E had a neighborhood power shutdown and when I came home, everything was working in my house and detached garage except several outlets in my garage, including the one powering my garage door opener. I called Ideal Electric late on a Friday afternoon, Esed answered and took me step by step through a checklist. Turned out, as I should have know, that the GFI breaker on one of the outlets tripped and that outlet was connected to the others. Esed gave me the info without charging me to visit the house. Stand up dude. I'm not calling another electrician.

Both experiences were outstanding. From start to finish, their team demonstrated a high level of professionalism, expertise, and customer service. The technicians were extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and easy to work with. They took the time to answer questions, explain the work being performed, and ensure everything was completed correctly. What impressed me most was their responsiveness and attention to detail. Communication was prompt throughout the process, scheduling was straightforward, and the work was completed efficiently. The crew treated my home with respect, kept the work area clean, and thoroughly cleaned up when the job was finished. Their pricing was fair and reasonable, especially considering the quality of workmanship and service provided. It's becoming increasingly rare to find contractors who consistently deliver on all fronts, but Boyes Electric exceeded my expectations every time. I would not hesitate to use them again for future electrical projects and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable, professional, and customer-focused electrical contractor. If you're looking for top-notch electrical work backed by excellent service, Boyes Electric is an easy five-star recommendation.

I was in need of a licensed, capable, and highly rated electrician to replace a 44-year-old exhaust fan in the master bathroom of my condo. Checking Yelp, S&B Electric was one of the first I saw that matched my criteria. After reading many of the reviews, I submitted a request for quote through Yelp (late October or early November 2025). I received an automated text response with a list of questions to answer. I responded accordingly. Below is a timeline of subsequent communications: 11/03/25 - I sent a text to S&B requesting confirmation of receipt of my information. No response. 12/05/25 - I called and left a voice message 12/06/25 - I called Stewart directly and received an automated response stating, "I'll call you back." I replied, "Thank you." 12/06/25 - Stewart returned my call. During the conversation, he requested a photo of the existing fan. I obliged and immediately sent a picture. When I sent the picture, I received another automated response with the same questions I had received before. I completed them again in response. I received no confirmation of receipt. 12/10/25 - I sent a follow-up text to Stewart. No response. 12/17/25 - I called Stewart again, and again received an auto response, "I'll call you back." No call back happened. I put the entire project on hold for the next five or six months and focused on other things. During this time, I received no communication from Stewart or anyone else from S&B Electric. Always wanting to give people the benefit of the doubt, I decided to try one final time. On 5/06/26, I sent another request for quote through the form on the S&B Electric website and received an immediate automated response confirming receipt of my request. As of 5/13/26, I still had received NO RESPONSE. At this point, I had completely given up. I understand that many people had wonderful and positive experience with S&B Electric, and that is what I had based my initial decision off of. However, when a business or representative thereof fails to at least extend the courtesy of just replying to say they cannot, for whatever reason, accommodate a request for service, that non-response is equivalent to poor service overall. That said, since I cannot speak to the quality of their work, I must base my review off of the facts above. If the amount of stars is based on that, it would be 0/5. Consequently, I ended up working with another locally/minority owned/operated contractor, who not only provided exceptional service from initial call to intake to invoice, but they also got the job done in less than three hours and will be my contractor for all future electrical needs in my current home, and future home.

I live in Canada and managed the work remotely by phone, text, and email, after meeting him in person right at the start of the job. I contracted with Kelly after speaking with several other candidate electricians, because he was super communicative and responsive, explained his process and thinking clearly and thoroughly, and had long and broad experience with electrical panel replacement and upgrade projects throughout the SF Bay Area and up and down California. This was Kelly's first project in Palo Alto, and he was persistent and conscientious when navigating all the hoops and roadblocks thrown in his path by the City of Palo Alto permitting and engineering department, which seems to have a very different (and shockingly inefficient and painful) approach from other surrounding municipalities. He collaborated with me when needed to follow up and push things through the City of Palo Alto, and frankly after my own experiences with them, I'm even more impressed with Kelly's perseverance and patience in doing what was needed to get the job done. My mom's live-in caregiver also gave Kelly rave reviews, saying he was always kind and gentlemanly whenever he visited to carry out tasks for the panel replacement job. Kelly did careful and neat work, and the new, upgraded panel works well and looks good and very professionally built. And the quote we received once the full scope of work became clear was honored throughout the project, even though I know Kelly put in a lot of extra hours driving around and haunting the halls of the City of Palo Alto to get all the right paperwork put together and finalized and signed off. Sticking to the original quote speaks to his integrity. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kelly as a knowledgeable and easy-to-work-with electrician who will do a great job for you on whatever electrical project you have for him. In these days when many people are hard to reach, flaky, or have little pride in their work, Kelly Henson was a breath of fresh air, and I'm grateful to have contracted with him for this work.

Vital's quote was higher than most others we received, but given their reviews, we decided it was worth the extra spend for a clean install. Pre-install had delays and miscommunications. I know this is common with projects, so I remained positive. I was sent engineering plans for my approval. I saw that these revised plans were for a smaller system than what I had originally agreed to. The change would have made it easier for the installers, but would have netted me less energy, with no adjustment to my cost. To the PM's credit, he attempted to draw my attention to these changes when they were sent for my approval, but I nevertheless saw it as a proposed change constructed to benefit Vital with no consideration toward me, and delayed the process even more as I had them change back to the original agreed-upon system size. I remained positive. On installation day, one of the installers broke my new and expensive inverter. I said no big deal, I'll talk to the PM and we'll figure something out. Even though the system wasn't fully functional due to the broken inverter, but I nevertheless paid everything that was due that day, withholding only a documented amount equivalent to a replacement inverter until we can find a resolution. The manufacturer would only replace the broken inverter it with a used device under warranty (i.e. one that another customer has returned and has been refurbished) with a shorter warranty window. Rather than demand a new inverter at the company's expense, which I believe I fairly could have, I proposed options which included a partial credit for the downgrade (and the warranty hassle and ~two months lost solar generation). After waiting weeks for a reply, I followed up and their finance specialist accepted responsibility for the damage IN WRITING and agreed to the credit. I spent hours on the warranty process, found an oversized box, and shipped the broken unit. This is where it unraveled. Right after the resolution, CEO Jason Jackson, got involved for the first time, deflected blame, and said he thinks my equipment was defective (a manufacturing defect somehow caused a piece of hard plastic to snap off?), asked to inspect it and offered to handle the warranty for me. I told him that the package was already shipped, and that I would have very much welcomed his examination and warranty help three weeks ago (rather than the radio silence I received), but the resolution reached, device shipped and warranty in motion. And despite his self-proclaimed "30 years in the industry," didn't appear to have a grasp of the situation as he incorrectly called the inverter a "battery," and required correction. He also accused me of breach of contract for temporarily withholding a small amount due to the breakage. Meanwhile, I noticed flickering lights in several rooms. Nothing suggested a solar connection, so we called an electrician... three visits and $1,300+ later, he traced it to loose connections and a stripped lug in equipment the installers had just worked in, attributing it to the install with a high degree of likelihood. I had been willing to absorb that bill just to move on. Instead, as the CEO kept trying to walk back the written agreement, I was told my warranty might now be partially void because a licensed electrician had worked in the same area, and the Vital threatened a lien on my home while I was withholding the remaining balance awaiting a corrected ledger and the heat detectors their own permit plans required. Five employees of Vital were copied in to the email thread which created an audience, so I eventually decide to email Jason directly to remove the risk of humiliation for him (I detected a hefty ego), and gave him a generous compromise offer. I made major concessions to just get this over with and we finally put it to bed. I was pleasantly surprised that he did not ask me to sign an NDA as part of a compromise, because now it allows me to share my experience here. The field crews were likable and professional, and even the installer who broke the inverter seemed like a knowledgeable, decent guy. Leadership is what failed here, at real cost in time and stress.
