I see that there are a lot of tough reviews for customer service but my fiancé and I went in tonight to collect ideas for a registry and the staff was so warm and welcoming. Anthony was so enthusiastic and excited for our wedding like he was a genuine friend, he had to leave early but left us a handwritten note for when we finished. We worked with the general manager Jonathan and he basically gave us a free seminar on all things cooking; he is incredibly knowledgeable and a fantastic resource that we will lean on in the future, also wonderfully kind. To top it all off they gifted us free kitchen towels of our choice before we left as thanks for having a registry with them. I was amazed and truly touched that a chain store could still be like this in the days of e-commerce ruining it all. I wholeheartedly recommend stopping in this location! read more

I went back in 2018 because I heard they had great hot chocolate and wanted to try it out. It's nice to get greeted and welcomed as you come it, but when there's other people in the store and an employee keeps asking you if you need help and not the other people who are also looking around, it begins to feel like microaggression/microassault. Especially when you look different than the other customers and haven't been there for long. I hadn't felt that uncomfortable in an Arlington business since I was in my teens. I shop at stores like this for quality products and great customer service. For your own shopping benefit, please go to any other store than this one. The customer service is non existent and their employees are quite entitled and short. Today's experience with sales associate, Beth, was just this. Immediately she seemed bothered to assist with a return and quickly pushed me off and told me I had to return it online. Then she proceeded to call the next customer to the register for a purchase. I was told to do my return online with zero assistance or help, just free attitude. If you enjoy shopping where employees give less than minimal effort towards their job and lack customer service, than this is the store for you. With a limited selection you're better off at any other location or shopping online anyways. I found both of the staff members rude and unhelpful with a gift exchange I was trying to perform after Christmas. They insisted I was not able to exchange a Dutch oven for a different color without a receipt. One went so far as to say that I may have bought the item a year ago and was trying to pull a fast one. Inattentive staff that would rather pet dogs outside of the store than greet you, a human being, that's waiting for their $400 pick up order. It took more than 5 minutes for any staff member to acknowledge me. The guy at the desk could have told me someone would be right with me before helping the next customer... why would I just be standing by the register with nothing in my hands. I came here looking for kitchen towels to give as a housewarming present for a friend. I was able to find some pretty quickly on sale for $9.99 -- what a steal! When I needed assistance someone was able to help me and she made suggestions for other things I could buy to complement the towels. The only issue with this place is parking. I came on a weekend and it took me a little bit to find street parking. I heard there was a garage pretty close-by but I wasn't exactly sure where it was. In addition, it seemed like they give out samples of food occasionally. They seemed to have run out by the time I got to them but I still thought that it was pretty cool! read more

I like this store of Williams-Sonoma as much as I like their other stores in the DMV area. I feel this to be a bit smaller than the Tysons store but I am able to find most of the things I am looking for here, so that works for me. More than once I have shopped or tried to shop at this location... today was my last time. I will not go back. After shopping at WS for 20+ years in California, I'm not sure the retail store staff in this location even wants to be working. The store is empty most of the time I've gone in but happy to say no to an exchange. I'm guessing the old-school policies of William Sonoma will be its downfall. The last store I shopped in was Alexandria and now that one is closed. Retail brick and mortar is so tough... what is William Sonoma doing with such archaic policies? Today I brought a purchase back one week past 30 days and was read the riot act. "Just this once, they will exchange it"... I didn't even want money back! The music was so loud, I couldn't hear myself think and the person behind the counter certainly knew her policies and was ready to enforce them. Is this really great customer service by today's standards? I don't think so. I will give this place four stars because the guy working here this past Sunday (I think his name was Ryan) was super nice. He went around to most, if not all, the customers and asked if they were finding what they wanted or if he could help. I had spent a little bit of time there so he had circled around and asked if I was still ok. I thought that was very nice. On top of that, another customer was looking for something very specific and slightly less common, and the sales guy was able to locate the item for him. In terms of what they offer, the bins looked a little sparse but they had some cool stuff and were reasonably priced compared to the local competition and even online. Go figure. read more

Placed my order of tableware sets to be picked up from this location. They called to inform me that they don't have the spoons from the set and had to cancel my order. They then placed the knives and forks on hold so that I can pick them up in the store and have my spoons shipped to me. Went to the store to pick the items only to have the attendant place the order of the missing spoons on their website and she clearly told me that it's free shipping because the store ran out of it. Guess what? I got charged $15 for shipping after all and when I checked the receipt and mentioned it to her she started giving me excuses that they can't waive it. I told her that I could have just made the order at home instead of coming all the way to the store and she started saying that it's good to support the store to keep it open and that it will help keep their jobs also. Needless to say, I'm never coming back to this location ever. Worst customer service I've ever received in a Williams Sonoma store, I'll go to the other locations next time. read more

I sprinted to my local Williams-Sonoma with 5 minutes till closing. I was in desperate need of Chemex filters and knew I would regret it in the morning if I walked home empty-handed. Williams-Sonoma was selling them cheaper than Amazon ($9.50 v. $11/100 count) - that NEVER happens! I told the store clerk about my Chemex dilemma and frantically looked for filters in the coffee section. NO FILTERS?? She asked her coworker in the stock room to check the back and a couple minutes later, my new BFF brings out these glorious filters. All is good in the world and I can enjoy an amazing cup of coffee thanks to the lovely folks at Williams-Sonoma and their willingness to help me at closing. read more

I love Williams-Sonoma. I've been a good customer for several years. I do not love this location due to the spotty customer service experience. About 4 out of 5 times, the associates will be chatting amongst themselves while customers are in the store. Meanwhile, there are dirty pans in the demo cooking area (e.g. cold caramelized onions from hours ago), carts of random stock/returns on the sales floor, much of the glassware is dusty, etc. When you finally have to flag someone down and pull them away from their conversations to ring up your purchases, it's strangely difficult to find the cash register. Several times I've had to go back to the store because I discovered after leaving that the sales associate didn't put all of my items into the bag, or they rang something in twice/incorrectly. These are all things I wouldn't expect at a higher-end place like this. Will I go back? Yes. Will I enjoy it? Yes, but only because nothing in the world can stop me from enjoying silly expensive cookware! read more

The staff here is quite knowledgeable about cooking and baking, and offers great tips and advice. I was left a little underwhelmed. I walked in ready to buy something, anything, as a holiday gift for a kitchen-inclined person but nothing caught my eye that they wouldn't already have. No staff approached me to ask if I needed help. They have way too much actual holiday themed stuff (as in useful for 2 weeks per year). Most of the stuff like coffee machines could be bought on Amazon or at Bed, Bath...for cheaper. I'm not sure how they are differentiating themselves from Crate & Barrel across the street, other than with kitsch. Fine for standard kitchen wares, but nothing particularly innovative or interesting. Their knife selection was impressive, though. read more

I've always been a Williams-Sonoma fan. How can you not love shiny copper pans, new utensils you never knew you needed, and all with a big price tag? Because I'm young and poor (in all the best ways), I can't always afford to spend a lot of money all beautiful kitchen items. But when I can, I go to WS. I bought my Nespresso machine there and it's perfect. All my loved ones know a gift from WS is the way into my heart. The one downside to Williams-Sonoma is that the staff can be uppity - but not at this store. I recently ordered something online, it got canceled, and I've been trying to get it through stores at the price I paid online. It's a complicated process, and I've called a few stores who seemed helpful but didn't go the extra mile to help out what will be a lifetime shopper. The people in this store were friendly, understanding of the problem, and went out of their way to help. They were busy, yet I felt like most customers were being properly attended to. They were also in the middle of one of their classes - worth the free demonstration if you have an hour or two! As much as I love sales, Williams-Sonoma sales are rarely worth it. If there is a piece missing from a set, they'll knock it by 10%. If a 2 towel set is missing one, it's only 50%, they don't take any off for the fact that you're buying damaged goods. I never leave bad reviews. (See my other reviews.) The service at this store was so RUDE, I'm making an exception. I guess I must've been wearing my invisibility cloak today. I went to this store on a Friday afternoon around 3 p.m. There were a bunch of staff. THREE of them were at the counter, including a manager. I brought about $100 of merchandise to the register and there was NO ONE in line, and I was totally ignored. I mean, eye contact assiduously avoided as the woman became engrossed in her computer as I stood a foot away from her. I waited politely. Another man fiddled with a box, and a manager (?) was having a conversation with a store room person. NO ONE WAITED ON ME. Computer chick wandered away. She didn't say "I'll be with you in a moment." SILENCE. Then, another manager, came up and said to Box Guy "Can you wait on her?" And that customer walked past me, to another open register and Box Guy paid attention, because a manager asked him, and she skipped me, standing there with my stuff. Just WOW. These service people saw me. They said nothing. They didn't stir. I just left the merchandise there and walked out. Computer chick looked RIGHT AT ME as I left. Not. One. Word. Seriously, management -- you need to buy a clue. I can see if you have a ton of customers, I'm a polite person, I'll wait, but to be hardly busy and IGNORE A PAYING CUSTOMER? And there is NO LINE? I just want to say that the staff at this Williams-Sonoma location is great. They are all very helpful and friendly. And also very knowledgeable. They do ask once if you need any help finding anything and then they won't keep bugging you after that. I want to share my recent experience at this location. I was going to purchase a digital thermometer and when I brought the item to the counter the sales associate who was going to ring me up said that she does not recommend this particular brand of digital thermometer because they have had many returns on this item. She was being very honest and very helpful. She instead recommended a different item that was actually less expensive. You don't see that all the time. I've visited this store several times with the intention of purchasing a few kitchen goods and have always left the store empty handed and a little upset. Despite the fact that there is sometimes a gaggle of store employees hanging around the cash register, my presence has never once been acknowledged. I always walk in with with the hopes that perhaps someone would like to help me pick out the best of whatever I'm looking for, but my hopes are immediately shot down when I circle the store a few times and am completely ignored. Despite four employees standing at the cash wrap, no one acknowledged our presence. We asked to see the larger processor (was not on shelf) in two different colors to compare and they said they had both in back. DO NOT GO THERE IF YOU"RE NOT WHITE! Yesterday I went to buy 2 CO2 soda stream cans and check out the new set of pots and pans that I want to buy in the near future. It was supposed to be a very easy task, and I was not in a rush. 3 weeks before I was extremely well received by a male associate and because of him I returned yesterday (I'm sorry, I forgot his name.) After browsing for a while I decided to checkout. There were 2 associates, (the nice and professional man, and a middle aged woman) and two Caucasian clients being attended. Associate Militza (I'm not sure if the spell is correct - associate #357103) while attending another gentleman asked Me if I wanted something, I said I what I wanted, and she asked the gentleman to wait while she attends me. I politely said that I could wait, but she insisted. I thought that she was being very polite, and that maybe my buying was much simpler than the gentleman. When it was time to pay I realized that I left my wallet in my car, so I asked her if they accept Apple pay. This is when her mood changed. She rudely said that they only accept Credit or debit card, so I asked her to keep my empty bottles while I was going to pick up my wallet, she was not happy about that. The empty bottles where in a whole foods paper bag that I asked her to keep it while I was going to my car. She said (rudely again) for me to put the bag in a ridden trash bin inside the counter. I felt a little humiliated, but I thought that it was my mistake to forget my wallet. I didn't see any discrimination until I returned 3 minutes later. She seemed surprised to see me back and stopped attending the other customer again to attend me. She asked to see my credit card and Identification. She was on her right, but I thought it was strange since my bill was only $31.69. I inserted my card and she gave me the receipt, said thank you and went away. Since she left the 2 bottles on the counter and I did not want walk around a shopping are with 2 60 Litters Co2 , I decided to go back to the trash bin to get my old bag to put the 2 bottles. When she saw me walking towards the trash can she screamed "hey, hey don't forget your bottles" which I angrily replied "I'm going to get my old paper bag to put my bottles". I got the paper bag from the trash can and put my new bottles inside it, but the paper bag ripped apart. After so much humiliation, I speak loudly while I was facing her back "Can I please have a bag?" This is when the nice guy intervenes and offer to give me a bag while she left the counter and went inside. The nice man not only gave me appropriate bag, but tried to calm me down with small talk. Since I realized that I was being discriminated I decided to stay a little longer to see if she would ask the Caucasian gentlemen his card and ID. Guess what, she did not! I asked the nice associate to validate my parking and one more time he was sensational. I'm Brazilian/Japanese and it was really disappointing to face situation like this in 2016 especially in D.C area. When I returned to my car, I had to wait a few minutes to calm down. All the happenings came to my mind, and I got mad at myself for the passive way that I reacted. I was not prepared to face discrimination, and I tend to believe in the good intentions of people. Only when I got home I decided to read other Yelp reviews, and you can see that I was not the first one. The other complaints were much more subtle than this one, but you can see a pattern. Dear Williams-Sonoma of Arlington I really hope to be the last one. I'll write a more detailed message to both BBB and Williams-Sonoma Corporation and maybe other parties. The staff is one of the rudest staffs I have ever encountered. Usually I ignore it, but this time I had to write a review. I purchased a $150+ Boos cutting board about a year ago and after using probably three times, the board totally split. I spoke to the manager about a refund and she simply told me I should have been putting a special cream on it. I had no idea a cutting board needed special instructions especially when it was hardly used. Considering how much I paid for it and how much I have spent over the years in that store you would hope the manager of the store might be more accommodating or helpful. I will absolutely never shop at Williams Sonoma ever again, and neither should you, if you value being treated how a decades-long paying customer deserves to be treated. I received a house warming gift of a dining room table, that was absolutely falsely represented on the website. Unfortunately I was not at home the day it was delivered so I was unable to refuse the delivery, which I would have, given its state. The table looks like it was made of linoleum or plastic, and not wood as the website suggested. Further, the website also falsely represented the table as a wood color when it was in fact grey--completely different. All this would have been acceptable had a return been an option on a gift I did not choose, but clearly I am here writing this review, so that was not the case. I spent 3 hours on the phone with 3 different customer service representatives today who did not represent customer service in any sense of the word. The first representative refused to return the order, explaining it was a final sale item. I explained I would gladly accept store credit, given it was a gift, and she plainly refused. I asked politely to speak with someone in her management since I understand she didn't come up with this policy, and she put me on hold..FOR 40 MINUTES and then hung up. I called a second time. The second service representative, Jessica, spent the majority of our phone call arguing with me about the company's policies. I explained to her that I was not there to argue with her company's policies, but to reach a reasonable compromise, given that, after all, this was a gift that I had not selected for myself. She repeatedly drilled the same lines she had already said to me in an increasingly hostile voice and refused to connect me to a manager. I explained that the table was a gift and the table was not my choice. She refused to believe me, indicating that there was no proof since the table wasn't on a gift registry. (Who creates a registry for a new house?) I explained that you could see the billing name and address was clearly different from the mailing name and address, proving it was a gift, and that I had the receipt if she couldn't see that in the Williams Sonoma database. Finally, after explaining for what felt like the 3rd time that I was not here to argue with Williams Sonoma, but in fact to continue using their products, she "connected me to her management" which then resulted in a dead line again. I then called a third time. I begged the third representative not to hang up on me and to please put me through to her management so I didn't have to explain for a third time the same situation that Williams Sonoma customer service representatives are clearly not authorized to handle. Naturally, she refused and insisted I relay her story. I explained I had already been put through this twice and would rather not waste another hour. She instead pointed out I'd already wasted 5 minutes of her life, and I better get talking because she wouldn't put me through to her manager until I relayed the circumstances to her. (Try 2 hours of my own life, but that's clearly not of concern at Williams Sonoma.) Finally after relaying the circumstances to her, she told me in fact her manager wasn't even in the office on a Sunday, and wouldn't be back until Tuesday. She said she'd "submit it in the system." Wish she had told me this beforehand and I would have asked to be circuited to a representative whose manager was actually in the office, but my time's not valuable to Williams Sonoma so I really shouldn't be surprised at this point. As I expected, she had the same answer as the previous two representatives--that she was not authorized to return the table which was gifted to me. She did agree to return the six chairs gifted to me, but said I would have to call the scheduling services myself to organize it...cherry on top of great customer service. (Why wouldn't they call the customer instead of forcing the customer through ridiculous wait-times and unhelpful representatives, yet again?) Overall, I am incredibly disappointed, given my history with Williams Sonoma. I used them as my wedding registry 5 years ago and have spent years as a loyal customer, overall spending tens of thousand of dollars there, and they were unwilling to compromise on just a couple thousand of that (which they wouldn't have lost anyway in an exchange or store credit). It's terrible to argue with a place I've put so much faith in my entire life. I would have loved to continue the tradition with our new home, but needless to say, I will never be able to move forward with them again. Especially with Williams Sonoma Home. Given that they have few to no physical locations, you would think their business model relies on ensuring a positive customer service experience from their online customers--presumably their primary source of revenue--and therefore that they would value them more, but I assure you this is not the case. read more

Wandered in here tonight looking for a cocktail muddler. They had one - a brazilwood or olive wood one - but it was $22. Sigh. I know it's not exorbitant, but it's more than I wanted to pay for a stick to smash things with. I love this store, though. There's always an assortment of random fun kitchen gadgets that I don't really need, but would be neat to have. However, my experiences with this particular location has been rather negative 9 out of 10 times, mainly because the staff there (especially the younger ones) are often rude, attitudey & arrogant, and sometimes made me feel borderline discriminated against bc of my race. This WS location always has something interesting, especially for specialty foods. I've been here about a dozen times and I'm always greeted and the staff always asks if my dog would like a treat, so I'm pretty OK with this place. I bought two boxes of stemware. The clerk said he would ship them to my home so I wouldn't have to carry them. Nice offer. Yesterday I received the package of two boxes but one box was the wrong type. I took both boxes back to the store to correct things. The clerk refunded the amount then rang up the two correct boxes at a higher price. I asked why and she said they must have been on special when I purchased them the first time. Really?! I've shopped at the W-S Clarendon store for years--since it opened, and have found the staff always helpful. When it's very busy, as during the holidays, they can be a little slow, but in general, the store staff is excellent-not too hovering, but always willing to help. The store is on the smaller side compared to others in the region, but has a good assortment of wares--though, being W-S, they're somewhat pricey-- and the staff is very good at checking out the storeroom and ordering no-shipping home delivery on goods they don't carry. read more

She asked if I would like to see one and I said yes. In the meantime, another customer stopped her to ask a question. She proceeded to help that person select a few items and then rung them up while I stood there waiting. We walked into the store for our wedding registry visit and despite two employees standing right in front of the door -- did not receive a greeting or even an acknowledgement. We walked into the store and noticed that a couple of minutes later, the ladies (the employees) greeted and started assisting an older couple. Despite being in the store and wandering around no one approached us, made eye contact with us, let alone offered to help us. Our registry is quite substantial in value and we were planning to add more items but this whole experience has put quite a bad taste to what should be a fun experience. After an unpleasant experience at the Friendship Heights location, I attempted to purchase my gift at the W-S in Clarendon. This location has a smaller selection and did not appear to have the item I was looking for. After some brief assistance from a saleswoman, I decided to continue looking on my own. None of the products I was considering had price tags so I needed to ask the price. I was told that the particular brand does not print prices on its products. So, why not include a little label on the shelf listing the price as most normal stores do? After failing to get anyone's attention other than the "espresso lady" (who told me she could not help me but asked whether I wanted an espresso -- does it look like I want an espresso?!), I exited the store, crossed the street to Crate & Barrel, found what I was looking for and had a much more pleasant experience. At least next time I know to skip W-S and head for C&B in the first instance! read more

Amy held our hands for about two hours, giving us advice, explaining differences between products, and getting potatoes so we could try using all sorts of knives. (Transaction went through twice for some reason) I called their 1-800 number and was told returning takes much longer if done through mail ;the associate recommended I go into my local store to do the return.I walk in and explain the situation to the associate (I provided receipt ,original boxing ,and the thing hadn't even been touched).For some odd reason the associate still felt the return was fishy,she called her manager over who proceeded to try and play me over $50.She originally stated all they could do was ship it to headquarters and once there ,WS would process a return.I explained to her the phone convo had with 1-800 and that's when she said ok well let me see what I can do,after a ten second fiddling with the computer she said she could offer me Merchandise Credit I looked at her like she was bonkers.Thats when she retracted her statement and said she would process the return and I would get the credit in a few days.I'm disgusted by this locations lack of moral/ethics when conducting business.I'll be sure to keep my receipt and check my account in 2-3 business days for the funds. read more

Went in looking for a specific holiday food item I've purchased at other WS stores in the past. I read the reviews on customer service before going, but figured it couldn't be that bad. It was. Despite there being at least three employees in the store and only one other customer, I was not greeted or asked if I needed help. I didn't expect it, but this location is tiny and was practically empty at the time. Anyway, I looked for the item on my own and couldn't find it. I was clearly looking for something, but no one offered to help. I eventually approached an employee who was looking something up on the store computer. I waited for her to finish and asked her for help. She answered me with her back turned to me. Very rude. She tried to find it, but couldn't. She went to ask another employee while I waited. I overheard him say that he didn't think they had it in stock. She came back to me and I expected her to relay the information. She started typing away on the computer again and I'm thinking she's trying to find it for me. Nope. I stood next to her for five minutes. She finally asked another employee to come over to help her find an item. I think 'this is it', but nope. She starts looking up an appliance. It was like she just decided to stop helping me, but didn't share that with anyone but herself. It was super awkward. I called corporate to complain. Considering how many people have had similar experiences here, they really need to do something. read more

I wouldn't recommend them for wedding presents or registry. We received a $250 panini maker from a relative. We didn't need it, so we took it back to Clarendon. Since it was ordered online, the store couldn't do the refund on the spot, but they promised to take care of it. We were really nervous about leaving it, so we left very specific instructions and went over it several times. They promised to send us a store credit. Instead, they made a big mistake and refunded the money to the credit card of our friend. It was very embarrassing for our friends to find out we returned their gift. AND our friends got their money back instead of us. It's not like i'm going to ask them for the money. Thanks Williams Sonoma--you cost us $250. I had already sent a thank you note about how much we loved it (which is the etiquette even if you return something) . Their mistake made us look awful. I wouldn't risk using them for a wedding registry if they can't handle online orders at a store. read more

Had a mixed experience at this WS today. Went in looking for a very specific item in a specific color for a gift. After looking briefly, we were approach by a sales associate (blonde with headset) asking if she could help. Told her what we wanted, she talked into her headset, told us they didn't have it and walked away. OK. We bought one other small item, and while we were paying, another much more helpful associate asked if there was anything else she could do for us. When told about the other item we were looking for, she offered to order it online for us to pickup at the store. Great. When she looked it up, it turned out that the Clarendon store did have this item, six of them, in fact. So we bought it and were happy. As we left the store, I told the first associate that the store did, in fact, have the item she told us they were out of. Crazy me, I thought she might be interested in selling stuff, and making customers happy. No, she gave me a whole lot of attitude, told me "My manager told me we were out of that!" and tossed her hair several times for emphasis. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back to this store, but we do go to the Mac store in this mall from time to time. Lesson learned is to skip the hair tossing blonde with the headset and the attitude in the entrance and go straight to the register and look for the very helpful African American sales associate.
