Williams Sonoma in the U-District is one of my favorite places to browse, especially when I'm in the mood to splurge. Sure, it's expensive. We know this. Nobody is walking into Williams Sonoma expecting budget shopping. But if you're looking to treat yourself, this is a great place to do it. What I really love though is the clearance section. They mark things down for the smallest imperfections sometimes, and that is exactly the kind of chaos I support. I've found some ridiculously good deals there, including a Stanley Tucci pan and a matching KitchenAid mixer for nearly $150 off. Not only that, but the staff are super nice, helpful, and easy to talk to, which makes the whole experience even better. Shout out to Judith, who helped me and was especially awesome. If you like nice kitchen toys but also love the thrill of finding a deal, this place is absolutely worth checking out. read more

I had a great experience with this store. I placed an online order that WS's fraud department canceled without notifying me. I learned about it days later when I was checking on the shipping. Customer service was zero help. I called this location to see if they had 7 of the Breville Sear & Press Grills in stock for me to pick up the next day. They told me they had 5. I said that was good and would work with another location for the rest. I worked with Kristen who was super helpful and kind. I told her I'm disabled and wouldn't be able to schlep all of these to/from the car, which is why I had placed the online order. She explained that after I went into the store and paid, their loading team would be able to load up my car. I received a call the next day from another rep that they got additional inventory and now had 7 total to save me a trip driving to another location. Yay! The day of pick up, the cashier and the three people at the loading dock were all friendly and helpful. They also rearranged my items in my trunk to make room for the grills without me having to ask. My team was excited to get their gift, as this was a business gift of gratitude. I'm glad I didn't have to change plans. Used the restroom which was clean and stocked. The store overall is well thought out and was organized and stocked, even though they were very busy. Their "line starts here" sign isn't clear. Saw several customers going to the counter which has 2 registers and an internal computer (which some clueless customers also thought was a register) instead of going to the start of the line which is 10 feet away from the registers. read more

I was there to simply pick up my online order, and Bill greeted me with an offer to make me a cup of espresso (heck yes, says everyone who lives here on a rainy day.) There are plenty of good kitchen and home goods stores in Seattle, but this isn't one of them. We purchased a couple of double walled tumblers and one of them disintegrated in our dishwasher. Our dishwasher has never damaged anything before and the other tumbler we bought has been washed successfully many times. We went to W/S to get the broken one replaced, but were told they wouldn't do it free of charged. The salesman told us the website cautioned against potential damaged if washed in a dishwasher, but this was pretty lame as we purchased the glasses in the store without the benefit of the web site disclaimer. And in any decent store you'd think the associated ringing us up would let us know there might be a future issue. Needless to say, we won't be back. You might want to look elsewhere as well. read more

Experience shopping in the store great, experience for pick up rude and weird. Found what we wanted with excellent customer service from Van in the store. Went for pick up, in the creepy and smelly parking garage. Pushed button to let someone know we were there. Someone from the other side of the thick metal door was yelling that it would be a minute. They were yelling other stuff through the dirt but couldn't make it out. I told them I couldn't understand what they were saying, they just kept yelling something. It was 87 degrees this afternoon, a huge fan was running across from the door, and it smelled in these like garbage and urine. Thought it was really weird that this person kept yelling through the door and with the fan and steel door we could hear them. We were getting ready to leave, what's just a minute, and couldn't understand what else she was yelling. The door burst open and older women shoved our order at us, "we're busy you know" is what she said. I said great, and snatched our order. It's not if you are busy or not- it's really weird her behavior. Hope this place can be not so busy soon and clean house of this liability. read more

Wow, I'm shocked the ratings are so low. I went in to pick up a Jura E8 espresso machine I bought online. After talking to Rick for about an hour we decided on another machine. It was his fifth year Anniversary at the store today and he sure did know those coffee machines backward and forwards. I had researched like crazy this weekend and had plenty of questions- he was able to answer and provide details beyond what I found online. I love working with people that seem like I could be buddies with. Rick was personable, knowledgeable and charming. All while helping us he was greeting others to tell them he's be right with them- a dream team member! Rick helped us return our Jura and purchase our new machine. The manager assisted with our return and she was also friendly and helpful. The store is huge. It wasn't cluttered like some similar stores. It has a clean, high quality feel. I also picked up a couple of Star Wars Advent calendars. I forget how festive being in retail feels. I'd come back to this store to shop for the holidays for certain! read more

The employees at this store can't be bothered. I ordered something online for store pickup and happened to be in the area so I swung by to grab my order before I received the email saying it was ready. How dare I was basically the message I got from two clerks behind the register. Neither of them was interested in helping me with, what seemed like, a very simple solution (the order was for a Keurig, but should have been for a custom Porsche based on their reactions). I asked if there was anything they could do to help me out so I wouldn't have to make another trip back and they were like SORRY WAIT FOR THE EMAIL. I was about to just buy the darn thing in person and not mess with this online order that was clearly inconveniencing them. There was a WONDERFUL associate named Kevin who overheard my frustration and he jumped right in to help me like I would expect from a brand like Williams Sonoma. He said no problem and he'd grab my order. Sure enough, Kevin to the rescue! Give this man a raise for helping me out and exemplifying customer service, especially during holiday shopping. I came in today with my husband because we had to return a defective pan set (Green Pan G5 set...LOVE the set but one of the pans had a very sharp chip on the lip). Stood there, in front of two employees, ready to buy something. They both look at me, look me up and down, and proceed to talking about whatever bs they were talking about. I had to ask if I can buy something, to which they seemed annoyed. Turns out it was one of their first days so he gets a pass. Probably wants to follow the lead of the manager training him. The worst customer service. I bought my first Japanese knife Sunday night along with an all-clad pan totaling almost $500. I got home and used the knife once just to test on some Daikon. I noticed sometime later there was significant chip in the blade. I cleaned it up and brought it to the store the next day. They wouldn't let me exchange or return it or anything. Even basically blamed me for mishandling the knife. Why bother buying anything from a brick and mortar store if the service is junk compared to online retailers. Not all Williams-Sonoma stores are the same. This is my closest Williams-Sonoma location, and I have learned NEVER to purchase at this location, due to the worst customer service you will ever encounter at any other Williams-Sonoma store. Examples: 1. We bought the highest-end Vitamix and tried to return it 2 weeks later due to a product defect, and was told by THIS Williams-Sonoma team that we should lug it back to our car and package it and have it shipped ourselves back to Vitamix. We had to ask the team member, doesn't Williams-Sonoma have a return policy? When told "yes" we had to threaten to return the Vitamix we brought to their counter for a full refund, if they would not replace it with a new one due to the defect; only then did they decide to do so. 2. I noticed on the WS website that the Instant Pot Mini was now available at Williams-Sonoma, and went to this store to buy one. Team could not figure out the correct price in their computer system. I suggested that if they would look at WS website, they could see price of $79, but instead of just doing so, they called over a manager to argue about the price; manager insisted the price was $99, but would not confirm this on WS.com. Adding insult to incompetence, that manager advised me to open a WS credit card so that I could get 20% off the $99 price. Went to the WS website again myself as soon as I got home and purchased the item for $79. 3. Zero product knowledge or willingness to help: I wanted to purchase a Kitchenaid 7-quart PRO version mixer, in part because I understood from reading online that this mixer's engine was quieter than their other mixers. Since it was a major purchase (over $750 plus tax) I asked if it was possible to turn one of their 7quart PRO version mixers on, so that I could hear how loud it was. A flat "NO" is the answer from their sales reps. They advise purchase the $750 mixer first, and then taking it back if I don't like it, and refused to just turn on the one they have displayed in the store. I have several other examples (only because they are so close to my home) but trust me, save yourself a trip and AVOID THIS LOCATION, no matter how convenient it is. It would be better to purchase from another store entirely than to endure the horrible service and even rude treatment at this location. read more

In general, Williams Sonoma quality for many items is poor, and they don't stand behind their too frequent lack of product quality these days, so their bad quality is the customer's problem and loss. Customer service has also been absolutely disappointing at this store. They are so short sighted not taking care of customers with problem. If I could give them no stars I would but one is the lowest, anyways I bought a 500$ plus coffe maker and when I got home I tried it and it did not work so I took it back so I can exchange with another one and they wouldn't take it or help even though in their return policy says that they accept returns within the 30 days of purchase and in conditions as they were bought and that's what I had but they claimed "I had used it" I did tried it and besides how would you know if things work if you don't get a chance to try them? I went into this store today and left with a pretty bad experience. I've been thinking about it all day so I decided to check the Yelp reviews on this place- turns out, I'm not alone! For some reason, this store has a big issue with customer service. I hope that someone takes notice and implements a change! This morning I went in and was greeted right away (great!). "What can I help you find today?" the associate asks. I tell her the item I'm looking for (a very basic cooking product) and she immediately seems annoyed (?). "We don't sell any of those in stores" she says. Ok, that's fine. No problem. I ask for another product that I know they sell and she points me in the direction. I normally like when someone walks me to the item but, no biggie, I go on my search. When I get there, no item is found. I see her working the cash register now (and she's in between customers) so I make eye contact and mention that I can't find the product. "Ok, I'll help you when I'm done ringing the next customer up". Works for me. When she's done, she bolts to the back and I'm assuming she is finding my product. 5 mins later, she's not back so I wander over to find her talking to another associate. I stand there politely for a minute or two (she sees me) and the other girl finally kindly asks if she can help me. I ask the other girl if she was able to find the product. She rolls her eyes, looks at the other girl and says in an annoyed voice "I'm sooo sorry (associates name)". Oh, was I interrupting your conversation? I'm sorry that I'm a paying customer who has been overly polite and just needs help finding something? She (obviously annoyed) goes off to find my product (in a very different location that she told me it was). "Someone put it in the wrong place" she says. Like, what the heck? I felt so uncomfortable the entire time I was in the store. Like I was somehow inconveniencing this employee (who I'm pretty sure has some sort of managerial position). Williams Sonoma Fancy knife that was 160$ that broke after falling. This was clearly a manufacturing defect, but the manager of the store refused to provide any compensation. Had a horrific experience this weekend at the UVillage Williams-Sonoma. We have a set of the Dorset crystal glasses (probably $1500+) and do a lot of shopping at WS. Recently, my mom ordered us two more rocks glasses to replace a few that were broken last year at a party. She accidentally ordered the Triple size, not the Double. Since she lives in Idaho (and had the product shipped there), I did not know they were the wrong ones until she brought them to us this weekend. I took the two glasses AND the receipt to WS. I told them I knew that it was way out of their return policy, but I was hoping they could help me out since the product is still current and sitting on their shelves. The woman who helped me was extremely unhelpful. She said "this is way out of our return policy window". I told her that I was aware, and was hoping she could make an exception as its a current product and not something out of season that would cause them to take a loss or have to put it right on clearance after taking it back. She then said "These were bought in June. It is the end of October.". I thanked her for letting me know what month it was, and left. Went to another WS, told them I got these as a gift and didn't have a receipt and they were fabulous. Returned my product, got me the correct styles and rang me up for the other items I was planning on purchasing but didn't at the other store. Recently went in to do a return for an item that was purchased two days prior as a gift for my partner. Ended up being the wrong thing so went in to return and the cashier was instantly upset at the fact that I was doing a return. Then began making accusatory statements such as "well if it's been used we can't return it". Which I understand the policy, I manage in retail but the fact that it came off accusatory instead of asking me if it's been used or anything just made me feel as if I was doing something wrong. I have multiple times have come in to this store to buy things for my home and every time it is a bad experience. I will linger in the section I see something I'd like to buy and not a single person will greet or ask if I need help. And then this happens with the first return I make at this location and it just immediately makes me never want to come back. It's unfortunate because there's a lot of great stuff and as someone who recently moved a lot of things that are necessary are found there but the service definitely deters me from wanting to go back in. read more

I am -- was -- a frequent shopper at this brand. I did not make returns or have much problems as a frequent shopper. However, that all changed when I tried to get a refund for a Mauviel copper sugar pot I bought. While their products are a mixed reality of shiny, pretty, and overpriced, the worst part of Williams-Sonoma is their customer service. During the pandemic when calls were being routed to employees working at home, I called in to track said order (never held on to the receipt) and would repeatedly get hung up on by lazy staff unwilling to search for my purchase. They would put me "on hold" and just let the call ring off after an hour. Very frustrating given the money W-S get for their overpriced shiny objects. I had to go in to the Manhattan branch to talk to a live human. Additionally, I waited months to be reimbursed with a gift card. I am looking elsewhere from now on. Horrid customer service. I bought a universal All-Clad lid online. It did not fit as promised. I live 1 1/2 hours from the nearest Williams-Sonoma. It took me a few months to get down to store to return- figures since it was brand new in the box- still in the catalog and store it wouid be no big deal to at least get a store credit. The store manager was so rude to me. Acknowledged it was brand new, and still being sold but said he would do nothing for me. I asked for manager , he said he was the manager. I asked god a corporate number, he handed me a card, Slid the box at me and walked away. Not another word. Lost a customer over a $28 lid. Never mind I had bought a $1700 set of pots from them. And have been a frequent customer for 20 years. I will never shop there again. read more

Williams Sonoma (WS), University Village. (I review the Wms Sonoma web site in my next post) I am a longtime Wms Sonoma customer.  I've shopped the stores in University Village for at least 20 years.  Nothing has been the same since the WS store in University Village moved into the larger space once occupied by Restoration Hardware. I can recount many problems but lets just start with more recent woes. Dec 2019 - I went into the store in early December to buy some Chemex coffee filters.  The line to check out was very, very long at midday.  A new cashier was being trained by another employee.  Still there was no other register open on a December day.  I thought I would return later toward evening.  When I returned, problems were worse.  The person doing the training was gone and the new employee looked beyond stressed.  Another woman was walking around offering free samples of a peppermint item,  the cashier line was long.  Another woman who identified herself as the manager was walking around with a big grin.  When I asked her why someone was not helping at the register, she told me she was busy (could have fooled me) and was about to start 'cooking' for a special event that night.  I put down my coffee filters and left. August 2020 - the Pandemic was raging.  I called as asked about curbside pickup. Yes, I was told. Just order what you want, pay for it by phone, and COME INTO THE STORE TO PICK IT UP.  Even though I went quickly (I live less than 2 miles away) the item had already been sent to the 'storage' area behind the retail space.  Someone at the register in the center of the store (think pandemic) has to call for a person there and then have it brought out.  If the person in back is busy, good luck. Another time I waited in a long line for checkout.  The cashier looked stressed and was irritable.  She finished the transaction and I said, "You did not get my information for the points system you run."  She gave me THE LOOK, TURNED AND WALKED AWAY. On almost every occasion I felt as if I was doing the store a favor to shop there. Recently a friend went into the UVillage store with a return.  It was a food item.  He reports he was treated very badly by the manager.  I won't report on the actual interaction as I was not there.  What is clear is that this current manager has has not had sufficient training in dealing with an upset customer and in how to de-escalate a difficult situation. One Yelp reviewer encourages us to give them a chance.  Is this reviewer kidding?  See below. I stronglhy advise avoiding Williams Sonoma stores or online shopping.  If you must, before you buy ANYTHING at this or any other Wms Sonoma store (others are rate 3 stars and not 2) 1.  Ask about the return policy for this item.  The list of items you cannot return is longer than my arm.  NO FOOD can be returned.  DO NOT BUY any food item here.  Try Chef Shop or DeLaurenti in the Pike Place Market or some of the excellent grocery stores in the Seattle area. Compare prices for food items (etc) with other stores. 2.  If you are getting ANY item from the store room you have not seen, open and inspect it carefully.  Customers on Yelp report problems returning even defective merchandise within a short time.  Better yet go to another Puget Sound Williams Sonoma store that gets a marginal 3 stars and not fewer. 3.  I remember lots of positive experiences at the older smaller storewhere I bought an expensive coffemaker, Kitchen Aid blender, many kitchen towels and much more.  I have had few positive experience at the new store in University Village.  An 'older' man waited on me, knew the merchandise and was efficient. 4.  One YELP reviewer asks us to 'give them a chance'.  Anyone can report a positive experience if they walk into a store, know what they want, buy it and leave with no problems later.  My reading about customer service:  the best stores understand how a business handles complaints.  One management article I read suggested for every one complaint as many as 10 other people had similar experiences but did not bother to report them.  I am always confused when a business seems to forget that I am the paying customer. read more

This morning I called to tell them I received my package yesterday and two of the spices in the box were shattered and the box was hammered. They placed the box of spices in a plastic bag with no other wrapping to keep the box safe. The spices and glass were all over inside the plastic bag. I was really bummed since this was a Christmas present for a family member and all I could salvage was 6 spices. The women I spoke to was very short and really didn't care that they took such little care to package the spices. Talk about lousy customer service. She needs to go back to Customer Service School. I have bought lots of items from Williams-Sonoma and they have always been packaged carefully. I will think twice before buying from Williams-Sonoma again. It is totally disappointing to see such poor product quality with some of their branded cooking accessory products, and very non customer centric return and exchange policies, but it is absolutely inexcusable that I had such a horrible customer experience and received what I view as completely unacceptable handling of my experience by the General Manager of the store. The GM told me earlier in the week she would have her regional leader contact me per my request to escalate my end to end customer experience, which I am totally dissatisfied about... include the handling by the GM. I also made the same eaclaation request about this storr through another regional store yesterday for good measure. It is day 3 including the day of my first escalation request, and I still have not received a single contact. It seems like the Regional leader doesn't really care about customer experiences either. No wonder the store is such a disappointment that diminishes the brand and any of its perceived value. read more
