Everything in the restaurant including paintings on the walls and the butterfly hallway set the mood for the evening. As we waited to be seated we were offered a starter of liquid bread & tomato sandwich and caviar in a chocolate cup - Yum! I wondered if the entire evening will be spent standing??? Fortunately we were escorted through the butterfly walkway where we waited for each party to be seated. There were many surprises throughout the night that I won't share since you will want to experience them yourself. Our dinner started with dessert and worked backwards to the Main Course and ended with a dish consisting of freeze dried celery and fresh scallops that melted in your mouth. The evening ended with each guest receiving a jar of homemade Peach jam to take home. The entire experience was magical and we were excited to see what the next dish would be as each one was prepared by one of the Chef's with extreme detail. But I did end up eating everything. Some I loved more than others. The staff is truly incredible and you can tell that they love what they're doing here. I have never spent this much money on a meal and probably never will again. But it was our 10th anniversary so we went all out. I do wish the portion sizes were a tad larger. I felt like I should have been a little more full when we left since we literally dropped a mortgage payment. But for a once in a lifetime experience we throughly enjoyed ourselves. We did not get the wine pairing but I did enjoy listening to all the info they gave to the other couples who did.

I got the Cuban flatbread, daughter artichoke spinach potstickers and my wife the salmon salad. Everybody loved it. Brandy was our server and was great. We eat out a lot and honestly the food at a lot of places has gotten worse over last few years... higher prices worse food. Kounter restored my faith back in the restaurant industry. They still care and it was a deal. Anytime we are near we will go out of our way yo stop back in. Want to go to dinner next time! Blaine

That kind of chef and it shows in the food. Fried Ribs ($14) appetizer is a decent sized, four rib, main course plate. These ribs are fried and are delicious with a mild BBQ sauce on them. Totally yummy. For a side I had a substantial bowl of collard greens ($6), done perfectly. Wife had the meat loaf ($15) which was two large hamburger-sized pieces, wrapped in bacon and with a delicious sauce. She did not share them with me. One of those pieces came home with us. Continual iced tea was served for $2. A bit of history is in the hallway of the Kounter building. Nine Black college students served nearly 30 days detention on a prison farm after staging a sit-in at this South Carolina Whites-only restaurant in 1961. On a visit to Kounter in December, I was told by a waiter it's not uncommon to see some of the Friendship 9 eating at the restaurant. Drop by to ogle the menu and take in the historical display. Very interesting and a good insight as to where black people were back then.

We started with the Smoked Maple Old Fashioned and Pineapple Express--they have such a great cocktail menu! The Yogurt Parfait was the perfect bite with fresh berries, honey, Greek yogurt, and crispy granola. My husband ordered the Grit Bowl with creamy pimento cheese, pulled pork, an over-easy egg, and spicy mayo. Talk about comfort food done right! My girlfriend got the Burger, and it was amazing! The combination of pimento cheese and bacon jam was SO good. I went with the Biscuit Bake--creamy sausage gravy, aged cheddar, bacon, and an over-easy egg. Another totally drool-worthy bite! Everything was delicious, the drinks were fantastic, and the whole experience was a win. We will definitely be back!

The beer on tap was all good, local brews, and just happened to be $5 per draft on Thursdays! I got the original burger, because it was national burger day. Overall, good flavor and execution (except maybe a little salty). I ordered the sweet potato fries on the side and was disappointed when they came out covered in cinnamon and sugar. This was not mentioned on the menu or anywhere else. Had I known, I would have requested them to come without it.

We were told two hour wait, but only ended up waiting about 45 min before we got the text. The experience was fun having to "sneak" through the fake door and into a fun, moody, and eclectic lounge room. The bartenders truly made the night - Harris is wonderful, fun, chatty, and made all our drinks on a whim with almost nothing straight from the menu. We would tell Harris the type of drink and strength, and he made the most incredible cocktails throughout our time there. Truly showed that he's a mixologist and not just a bartender. We so treated ourselves to the caviar and the dessert bites. Would only recommend that the chips be salt and vinegar as the dish was missing some flavor, but the dessert bites were incredible. Will absolutely return for another night soon!

Service was on par at the bar. I ordered a Highland Gaelic Ale and I always figure any chicken place can perfect white meat, but the one that can make a plate of dark meat into an enjoyable meal and make me crave for more is a keeper. Well, the squash casserole that my wife recommended was the tasty part of the meal. The garlicky new potatoes tasted reheated and the chicken was under cooked. The price was great but regardless of price I expect a good meal. At a roasting place I expected the chicken to be falling off the bone or at least be cooked to a temperature to breakup the connective tissue and this was the opposite. I ate as much as I could stomach and then I focused on the reheated garlicky potatoes and squash casserole. The squash casserole did rock. Probably try their other location closer to home eventually, but this visit was less than satisfying.

Usually, you get these things and they're either stale or they feel like you're biting into a brick, but these were light. Airy. The seasoning is hitting every corner--it's like they actually care about your taste buds. No grease, just crunch. Then you hit it with the guacamole. It's fresh, I think, it's chunky, and it's got that lime kick that actually makes sense. It's not that neon green paste they try to slide you at the grocery store. When you combine the two, it's a beautiful thing. It's a peaceful transaction. No complaints. No notes. Just pure, unadulterated productivity. If you aren't ordering this, you're just making poor life choices. 10 out of 10.
