Willner offers some of the lowest prices on high-end supplements, compared to most stores, comparable even with super-cheap vitacost.com. Although, I find something cheaper online occasionally. In NYC - the difference of a bodega/sundries store and a pharmacy/chemistry is that a pharmacy/chemistry HAS A PHARMACIST AND 99% of these pharmacies OR chemistries accept some sort of insurance. I am sorely disappointed by the Willner Chemists in NYC. While this location is bigger and better staffed than the dinky shop in the Financial District, it still doesn't compare with the Willner Chemist in Atlanta, GA. I've found that a lot of the products are over-priced at Willner. The staff have been unhelpful, not knowledgeable, and hard to track down. I had such a good experience at their store in Atlanta so I was shocked to find such ineptitude amongst the staff in their flagship store here in New York. If you are the type of person you values high quality service, with nutritionists on staff who are passionate about health, you will love Willner. I've been going for years, but I have to give a testimonial after going there today. My doc told me I had a Vitamin D deficiency and I spoke with one of the nutritionists. He asked me what my actual level is and told me exactly what I should be getting. He even said that when my doctor rechecks my levels, I should come back for further recommendations. Bottom line is, if you are seriously invested in your health and want outstanding service with people who seriously know their stuff, Willner is definitely for you. read more

This place vies with Westerly in terms of its wide selection of reasonably-priced natural supplements from butterbur to essential oils to stinging nettle. They also have a small selection of books regarding natural remedies and a small food section. I have only visited the store downtown (which is, I think, the smaller of the two). The staff behind the pharmacy counter are invariably friendly and knowledgeable...the staff behind the counter or on the floor, less so. read more

He didn't know much about the product so he asked me to wait for the older russian (I think) guy... This guy knew his stuff. I bough a bottle of 120 pills for 15 less than I could on Amazon. I was at this store today after almost one year even though I work downtown NY. I rather go to bell bates around the corner than Wilner. The store manager named Sam is very unprofessional. When you ask him a question his answer is " I don't know". So when I asked him why he is working at Wilner most importantly if he is the manager he should atleast have good customer service skills, then he claims I am being rude. How can I be rude as a customer when I have a question. Anyway other staff seems to be fine. Only this manager seems to have a problem so far. After the last incident where they sold expired vitamins to me I never went back. But I thought he must be gone by now and went anyway to the store. But his attitude has not changed. Either he doesnt like colored people or he is just plain simple rude and lacks customer service skills. Or may be he just doesn't care about Wilner not making money by losing customers. I rather walk few blocks to get to Bellbates, since the guy at the vitamin isle is the best informative person to answer simple questions with a positive attitude all the time. Everytime I go to Bellbates I buy more stuff than I plan because of the nice staff there. It's also sad to see that Wilner employs managers like these. Atleast after one incident they should have trained him. But as far as me and my co-workers we are done with Wilner and switching to Bellbates even though its few blocks away. I went into Willner on January 16th 2019 and had the best experience. The nutritionist was informative, professional and polite. My doctor called while he was filling my prescription and I had to leave without him finishing. He remained professional and polite! I am going to go back and get ALL of my vitamins from now on. I have patronized the store at 100 Park Avenue (and 40th Street) for about a year. The store is well appointed and has a wide selection. They do have some pretty good sales so check their website from time to time if you buy a particular product regularly. My main problem with the store is that the salespeople are not especially helpful. Some of them seem to have little idea what they're talking about and offer nonsensical views on the benefits of this and that pill or potion. This is a common problem in a domain that is filled with pseudo-science and unsubstantiated health claims. If you do your own research before shopping, don't slavishly follow the advice of Dr. Oz and watch for sales, Wilner can be a good place to buy vitamins and supplements. read more

I have lived in NYC for 25 years so I understand urban business practices. I have purchased hundreds of dollars worth of vitamins and supplements from them many many times. here is my assessment: Imagine a woman going to a very butch lumber company and asking all kinds of questions before ordering. it is commonplace for the graceless men who work at the lumber mill to treat the woman like crap (probably hoping she will never come back). Similarly, forget trying to ask questions about the products there. They will not venture a personal opinion and fully expect you to be a pharmacist before ordering. (preposterous). I find everyone there to be a social troll and hard of hearing. to make things even more complicated, yes, they have ten brands of every product and when you ask simple questions about quality, value, and their irritating rotating discounts, they bristle. Dayum! I thought you sell this stuff. I have been sold a product that my nutritionist told me was pure waste and only gave me expensive urine, when the proper product was on the shelf right beside the one they sold me. That is not help. IF you do your own homework elsewhere with decent humans, it is good to order from these dullards because their prices are usually pretty good (but you always feel cheated by them anyway because they are not willing to discuss value, etc with you.) I prefer to order on the phone and have them mail the order to me because the place is overwhelming and the service is enormously underwhelming. even the people who answer the phone are very difficult to communicate with, but the job gets done eventually. (social skills : VERY LOW) I will come back, but only to save money. read more

HOWEVER, I have learned to do my research regarding products BEFORE I enter the store. I have always been a huge fan of Wilners Chemist for years until today. My friend and I came in on a Saturday morning and started to browse around. We had a saleswoman who was was completely useless. I wasn't sure if she had relatively little knowledge or was just disinterested in helping us. Regardless we picked up some stuff, some of which was on sale. But when we were being rung up we were told the sale was over and that they would NOT honor the advertised sale prices in the store. We were told it was early and they didn't remove the signs yet. Early, it was 11am and they were open an hour already. We were floored and left our entire purchase at the registered. Maybe the Saturday staff should get lessons from the weekday staff because we were floored at how poor the customer service was today. read more

I give three stars for the selection of supplements here, and the prices are pretty good. But the staff is pretty bad, except for maybe 1 or 2. Cashiers look like they're half asleep, and not too friendly. And I called here to ask if they carried "muscle milk" protein shakes and whoever I got on the phone actually laughed at the question, as if I were asking for such a strange thing. Bizarre...went to GNC across the street and found the 1 2 3. So overall, I find the staff bad...sorry to say. I remember the downtown one years ago anyway, had very nice staff. Downgrading from five stars to three stars. Been a frequent customer for over ten years and my latest visit showed a serious decline in staff competence, courtesy and surprising gaps in store inventory. It used to be that you couldnt walk three feet without being offered expert assistance. Now you need to chase someone down and, unless it is one of the few old-school staffmembers remaining, will be met with a blank stare. The guy I asked for assistance was apparently mortifed by any reference to menstruation then directed me to products for menopause and apparently didn't understand the difference between menstruation and menopause. Then he flagged down a female employee who tried to be helpful but said i should just look around for stuff myself. Then the cashier looked annoyed that I interupted her private conversation to buy things. And when a product didnt have a barcode I helpfully offered her the barcode from the shelf and she actually stuck her hand in my face like I was a nuisance to her for interrupting her call to the manager for that same information. After a three minute hold she came off the phone with information identical to that on the slip in my hand. She then complained that I interrupted her! this place used to be staffed with enthusiasts who knew the store's products and organization like librarians on the Dewey Decimal system. Now you are lucky if you can find anything and don't get the stink eye. One star for new staff. Five stars for old staff and convenience of the place. Three stars total. read more
