I love this independent shop! The owner, Brian M, guided me through a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) of a 2016 high-performance vehicle I wanted to buy. He specializes in European exotics (Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes, etc) and knows his cars. He examined the car in detail, put it on the lift, ran the engine's ECU history and diagnostics, test drove it twice, and when he found a few items needing repair - he arranged to perform the repairs (at the dealer's expense) while the car was still at his location. He was super-honest in his evaluation and gave me a straight opinion. His honesty was refreshing and his work ethic is uncompromised. Willow Automotive Services is the BEST. I spoke to Brian about getting my front and rear brake pads replaced here and he quoted me at a very reasonable price. I had called around for a few quotes and this place was one of the cheapest. I had told Brian that I needed to drop the car off EARLY (6:30am) and he said it was no problem! On the day of my scheduled service, I arrived a little before 6:30am and someone was already at the shop waiting for me! Great communication, very responsive, and great customer service! I'm so happy this place is in the South Loop. It's my new neighborhood car shop!! They're closed on the weekends but their door says open Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm. Fortunately for me Brian and his crew were able to work around my schedule. =) They're located close to many bus routes so its easy to get here to and from work while your car is in the shop. read more

My beautiful thirteen year old Camry was in need of desperate repair. AAA helped me the best they could, but between two calls to their support number and a new battery, my car had issues. I called the nearest place, and it happened to be Willow. I pull up the garage, and Im shocked. I pretend to be a car guy (because I watch Top Gear) and I start staring at these beautiful cars like I have no shame. If I sold my car, I doubt it would cover the lease payment on something like the Ford GT that they have there. All this unease was from my side, everybody at Willow was especially nice and made me feel comfortable. They let me poke around at the cars and ask questions about these beautiful vehicles. 2-stars - Like Yelp says, "Meh. I've experienced better." The shop is super clean, easy in-and-out and they complete work quickly with an appointment. Invoices are detailed and emailed for estimates and once vehicle is complete. Lot's of nice car eye-candy in the showroom too. The service is nothing beyond what you'd expect at your local independent shop and the prices are higher than you'll find at other euro-specialists. Had a few OK experiences with them for regular work but my last service was performed incorrectly and the work had to be fixed by another shop after breaking down out of state. Sent them invoices for the corrective labor and a couple of emails but never heard anything back . . . crickets. I don't need sweet customer service from a shop (never got that here, fine by me) but expected some sort of follow-up even to say "sorry" or "no" they wouldn't entertain helping with the cost of my additional - on top of $1,600 - expense. read more

Willow is all about profession service overseen by true car guys whose passion shows through their high quality of work. It is a pleasure to deal with both Brian and Kevin as they offer insight, expertise, and friendly advice. The place is somewhat difficult to spot among neighboring buildings, but the shop is very spacious, well lit, and offers eye candy if you enjoy classics, supercars the or rare cars in general. I own a 1991 Jaguar XJS. Needless to say, it's a Jaguar and bound to have occasional problems. Therefore, before I bring it out for a drive, I like to give it the once-over. I took it to Brian at Willow and he charged me $300 for the service. He also noted my brake lights were out and fixed them. 20 minutes after I drive the car off the lot, the turn signals stop working. It is well known that wiring is often crossed. I immediately bring it back and he keeps it for 3 days, and ends up charging me $600!!! Excuse me? I know my car. Tampering with any wiring messes the other wiring up. you should know that and fixed for FREE!!! read more

Once there he looked over the car for a while, came back, educated us on why the noise was happening & gave us advice on how to make it stop. He never charged us a dollar, he never tried to sell us something we didn't need, he was completely genuine & professional. Feel lucky and happy to have found Willow Automotive. As someone who once routinely drove 180-miles for a haircut, the 125-mile trip to bring a 1/1 K4 Kleemann-Mercedes and a 1/1 Lotus V8 to get Brian's special touch is worth every mile and more. Going to other shops cost the Lotus previous owner so much he sold the car to get away from it. For about half of what he already paid, all of the many issues were resolved to spec and the car runs amazing. It is a totally totally different car since its visit to Willow. Not friendly. While browsing new tires and performance brake sets at Tirerack.com, I noticed that Willow Automotive is a highly recommended installer. I went to Willow Automotive today and was hoping to discuss the costs associated with a performance brake set upgrade on my 2007 BMW. When I arrived, all of the doors were locked and after minutes of waiting in the rain, I was told that they were too busy to discuss service work with me. After asking a few more questions, I was told to come back another day. I quickly realized that my business was not important to them. read more

This isn't the cheapest place to get your Mercedes fixed, but it is hands-down the most honest place I've been. I've owned 5 Mercedes Benz sedans over the last 10 years and gone to a lot of shops from cheap unnamed chop shops to the primary Benz Dealer in Chicago. Willow Automotive has always taken care of me at a fair price with the work accomplished correctly. I've never had to go back to the place to re-do or tweak the work that they've done. That is RARE in the automotive repair and restoration industry. Hats off to these guys. Don't expect the cheapest prices but you won't pay dealer prices either... they even located a difficult to find part that was used but rebuilt and it was cheaper than the part I had priced-out at a junk yard. read more

Battery died. AAA told me I needed new battery plus new alternator. I had them jump start my car and drove it to Willow Automotive because it's close to where I live (I'd never been there before). Brian had his mechanics run diagnostics, got and installed a battery (despite not having one in stock at 8 am) within a few minutes, and told me I did not need a new alternator (he could very easily have sold me one). He also researched a defective battery cable for me, phoned me later with price. Battery cost slightly less than AAA had quoted, and 30 minutes labor was fair. Utterly disappointed in Willow Automotive. I've never had to pay $140 just for a mechanic to tell me that I need shocks. And the real shocker is that THEY DON'T TELL YOU THEY ARE CHARGING YOU TO LOOK AT YOUR CAR AND THEY HOLD YOUR CAR HOSTAGE IN THE BACK OF THEIR GARAGE UNTIL YOU DO PAY. AND IF YOU DON'T PAY, YOUR CAR SITS THERE WITH A $25/DAY STORAGE FEE! So at Willow, you have to pay them to tell you what the problem is so that you can pay them AGAIN to fix the problem. I've never paid an auto shop to take a look at my car. There is an ocean of auto repair shops in Chicago that do not charge to find the problem with your car. Plus Willow Automotive's price structure is MUCH HIGHER than other auto repair shops. One reason is that they ADD ON a shipping fee for parts to the shop, which is just a cost of doing business in the auto repair industry (take a look at JAMIE B. review on 9/16/15). They justify their price with a claim that "They know your car better than your dealership" but I would have to say that BMW mechanics who work on only BMWs all day, every day, know my BMW better than Willow Automotive. I never thought I would say this but it's cheaper to have my car repaired at BMW than at Willow Automotive. I'll be going back to my BMW dealership to get my shocks replaced. read more
