I hate to leave such a poor review because I really like Wayne. I have been a customer 10+ years but I'll never go back. Last time I got my brake pads replaced. After Driving off my dash lights up like a christmas tree. Check Abs, check brakes, power steering, plus a few others. All these lights came on at the same time. This had NEVER happened before and just so happened to start RIGHT after they did the work. I brought it back immediately. Wayne's guy in the garage proceeds to gaslight me and say these lights have NOTHING to do with the work that they did and that it was a computer issue. Lies. These lights have lit up my dash for months. They come and go. Another mechanic verified that this was the result of poor work when changing my brakes and now it is really expensive to fix. And now that the sensor for my abs is messed up, getting other work done on my car triggers more related sensors. Now tmps is going nuts as well. My car had ZERO computer issues and ZERO abs issues before theh did my brakes this last time. They should be responsible for these repairs! But they proved to be dishonest! If you make a mistake, OWN UP TO IT! I can respect that and have been loyal for years. Wayne is great but the guys in the garage really screwed me this time and tried to make it seem like they didn't. For this I will NEVER patronize them again and don't recommend that anyone else do. read more

I *was* a very loyal customer to Chinatown Classic Auto Repair for the past ten years and perhaps that was the problem, they realized I would keep coming back. A background on my new found mistrust: 1) I brought in my car in knowing my break pads needed to be replaced. Wayne called me a couple hours later stating my rear passenger side rotor was shot and needed to be replaced. I gave him the OK, paid for the break pad and repairs then picked up my car a day later. 2) A week later, I started smelling burning break fluid which was never a problem before. Brought it back to the shop and Wayne stated the break caliper on the rear passenger was locked up and the entire system needed to be replaced. This aroused suspicion. How did they not find that caliper was locked up after they just replaced the rotor on the same system? I gave them the OK again, paid for the repairs and picked up my car. 3) A couple days later, my car indicated low break fluid, same burning break fluid scent and the break pedal was extremely soft. My car was obviously leaking break fluid. At this point, I was very hesitant to bring it back to Wayne...but being a loyal ten year customer...you have to assume they have some integrity, right? Dropped it off at their shop, Wayne called me stating that the caliper was defective but "under warranty" and will be REPLACED. No payment necessary and I picked up my car the following day. Fast forward a week later, I had the SAME burning break fluid scent coming from the rear passenger side with the low break fluid light on again. I was pretty upset at this point and took it to two other mechanics. BOTH came to the same conclusion and the one I opted to go with SHOWED me what they did. Not only did Chinatown Classic Auto Repair incorrectly install my break caliper (No. 2 above), when they realized they screwed up (No. 3 above) and just stripped the same existing caliper bolt so it snagged on the little thread it had left - the part "under warranty" was never replaced! They stripped the part to essentially put a band-aid on it. It continued to leak - just much slower. I was lied to. After dozens of referrals and the thousands of dollars I gave them - they apparently didn't care enough to be honest and fix their mistake. I would not recommend them to anyone, ever. read more

CHINATOWN CLASSIC AUTO REPAIR is not what a new customer would've expected judging from the other customer reviews. The workers here are not the friendliest. The Asian mechanic that wears glasses was very rude. The owner and the older Asian lady are nice but that's about it. Considering niceness doesn't help fixed vehicles. They will fixed whatever you tell them but it will not be in the most caring and gentle way to your vehicle. They are very rough on taking parts on and off the vehicle. I went for the basic tuneup which consist of changing spark plugs, ignition coils, and upper gasket intake with the "3 hour" labor charge even though the "labor" was way less than "3 hour" I still paid around $471 dollars. I bought my own auto parts which came up to $246.86. So add all that together I paid a a total of $717.86. I called myself saving a few bucks considering the major auto franchise stores example (Goodyear, Midas, Firestone,etc.) was charging over a grand. But in reality with that saying "you get what you paid for" and I learned the hard way. Because the "engine light codes" I went for Chinatown Auto Repair to take care of is still on and the vehicle STILL having the same bad symptoms that let you know your vehicle needs attention. I went back to Chinatown Auto Repair to tell them the problem and they seem to brush me off, saying they're busy and to come back "next week" even though i came first in line as soon as they open their shop. So I went to Midas to get a second opinion which it turned out, the Chinatown Auto shop had damaged my clips that connect to the gasket which gives the reading for engine codes. So the moral of the story for my concern people who worked hard for their money during these troubling times is now I'm basically back to "square one" and with more problems to fixed. All because I tried to "saved" money. read more

I haven't written a Yelp review before, but Chinatown Classic is such a great auto repair shop that I feel the need. I started coming in 2014, after a bad collision which I worried had totaled my car. Wayne was very understanding in proposing repairs that made the car safe to drive and were still within my budget. Whenever I come back, I really feel like he and Moy are focused on keeping the car in good operation without adding on repairs that are beyond standard maintenance. Once when I was worried about the suspension, Wayne explained what parts he could replace to get rid of different creaking sounds, but added that the main issue is that my car is old, and that if I didn't mind the noises, it was still fine to drive, with no pressure either way. I can't think of another repair shop where they would have bothered to go through this and not pressured me to replace these parts. The staff at Chinatown Classic are very kind, funny, and laid back. Like other reviewers, I live farther away but am more than willing to travel to get my car repaired here. Very highly recommended! read more

I've only taken my car here a handful of times, but they remembered me and my old Bessie every time I came. They have very reasonable prices and will just check your car for no charge. When I needed a new muffler, they were honest and told me to go to a muffler shop. I brought my car in for another service, and they pointed out a leak to get fixed soon-ish. I had a flat tire a few weeks later and took my car to Firestone, and they pointed out the same leak. Should have listened to Chinatown Classic right away! Finally, my A/C was blowing hot air, so I took it to another shop (City Tire) that opened earlier and was highly rated for A/C repairs. They recharged my A/C and said there was no major leaks, but my A/C blew hot air a few days later. I took it back to the same mechanic, and they said there was a leak by my condenser, and that it would be $860 for a new one! They missed this the first time? Anyway, Chinatown Classic Auto replaced my condenser for about $440. If you're in the Bridgeport/Bronzeville/Chinatown area, HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking your car here first when it needs repairs. read more

I brought my car here for an oil change and to troubleshoot a noise the car was making. They quickly diagnosed the issue successfully and ended up just cleaning up some corrosion which resolved the problem. I appreciated their honesty when it came to realizing the issue required only a very minor fix. I will be bringing my car back. My only complaint was that I had to call them to figure out that the car was ready for pickup. read more

Very professional service with reasonable cost. I had a collision right side of my car. The technician suggested me just replace the fender for lower cost. No need for replacing the side mirror. Glue the crack on the mirror housing would be enough. My biggest concern was that the new fender would have a big difference from the original color. It turned out that the new one had very close color. Except I waited longer time than I was told, I am happy about the service and the fix! Let me start off by saying.. I absolutely hate auto repair. I hate when my car needs repair, I hate coordinating how to get to a repair shop, I hate how they handle customers, and I hate paying ridiculous prices. I try to avoid them like a plague. Recently, I needed car repair and I live in Pilsen. I tried getting quotes from 6 of the nearest repair shops on the phone. All of them either were rude, didn't speak English, didn't pick up, or wouldn't give me a firm price. Chinatown Classic was the only shop who was friendly on the phone and gave me a straight price without beating around the bush. When I got there, the owner talked to me for about 5-10 mins. It was nice to see that there was a personal element to the experience instead of just a transaction. I dropped off the car before they closed on Tuesday and the car was ready the next day. It's nice that they open late (7pm) since I get off work around 5 and that gives me plenty of time. Was this an absolutely mind blowing experience? No. Was it what I wanted from an auto repair shop? Absolutely. They were friendly in person and on the phone, gave me a price, didn't deviate from the price, and talked to me like a friend instead of a nuisance. I've been to over two dozen auto repair shops throughout my life and as long as I live around this area, I'll be going to Chinatown Classic. This is my favorite go to auto repair shop. It's not about the style or interior of the place but more about the owner and excellent staff and service you get. This is a real community based ma and law shop where they have known their customers for years. The customers are diverse and they do business with a huge professional group many of color come here. My jeep's lower ball joint broke on my way pulling into a gas station today, so I called around looking for an auto repair shop and tow service nearby. These guys were by far the nicest out of anyone else we called and connected us with a tow service they suggested. First of all, the tow company arrived after only 5-10 minutes and the man was very generous. I was only charged $60 for the tow and the ball joint replacement (for both sides), combined with the small repairs they did to fix the damage that came from the shot ball joint, was less than $400. They had my car in and out of there that same day and they never pressured me into any other services. They made me aware of any other issues with my car without any pressure for additional services. I noticed some vibrating/ringing noise coming from under the hood on a long drive home the other day, and knew I needed to take it into a shop to have it looked at. It wasn't a pleasant sound and you could definitely hear it from 30 ft away even when idling. I was pretty sure it wasn't too big of a deal though bc it sounded like something was loose and rattling and not dependent on acceleration, braking, turning, or anything else that might indicate something more serious. I had tried calling A&K the past 3 days but they kept saying to bring it back the next morning (which I couldn't bc of work), so I tried Dave's to an unsuccessful phone line, and finally stumbled across Chinatown Classic on Yelp. Called and swung by the shop where the mechanic took a ride with me in the car around the block, confirmed my suspicions (that it was most likely something loose) and then told me there was one car ahead of me so it would be around 30 minutes. To my surprise, when he got to my car...he drove it into the shop, raised it, tinkered around, and in less than 10 minutes showed back up to the waiting room to tell me it was all fixed. Told me that indeed there was something loose around my converter. When it came time to pay, the mechanic basically charged me nothing (lets just say it was less than if you were to pro-rate the 10 minutes from the $89/hr labor rate of the shop) where I know other shops would have at least charged me the minimum 1 hour of labor cost. This is what impressed me the most. There was no trying to take advantage of the customer, no gimmicks. The shop is visually a 1/5 star but I really could care less about that if the service is prompt, effective, and fairly priced. Been driving the car with no issues since. I am always skeptical when it comes to auto shops but I have to say, my first experience here has definitely warranted a return come the next time I need anything done. read more

He gave me a quote to fix 1 broken fan on my car ac and that's why I decided to let him fix it..When I got there to pick up my car I was told wayne left and I got a bill for over $400 to replace 1 broke fan that they replaced with after market!.and told me 1year warranty of part aftermarket Cooling Fan cost less than $100 everywhere..I really feel sorry for anyone going to fix their car here....There are better and honest mechanics around.... This is by far the worse mechanic ever. We went to get our breaks fix cause the pump was making a hizzzzzz sound. We trusted them because they happened to be family with my husband's co-worker. The first time we left it the cars breaks didn't locked, now we drive it it locks. The next day we decided to take it back and we left it over night, since they were closing soon. We came back they said they checked it do and that it was fine. I personally think they didn't do shit to it. Everything was ok for like two days, now something is lose from the shifting gear and it won't move! My husband and I were stuck for two hours waiting for a towed truck. The towed truck took us back to the mechanic, they didn't even bothered, the guy that fixed it or better yet destroyed said he was too busy, and to call Wayne the owner when we could bring the car. Another thing is what mechanic tells you to buy the part you need. I mean it's was the breaks booster but we aren't mechanics we don't know exactly the parts it needs. The worse place ever!! Horrible customer service. Don't waste your time and money. We told them what needed to be done, told us they would confirm. Left the car in the morning, came back in the afternoon and they still had not checked it. Told us they would "call us". 5pm came and nothing. Chicago is-14 below and the part was not looked at our replaced nor did they ever call. Another day of below zero Tomorrow and I wasted my time and a car with no heat. Chinatown Classic Auto Repair is the best. After seeing great Yelp reviews, I took my car here because it was making a loud knocking sounds. I was expecting the worst. Come to find out, the last shop to work on my car (Pep Boys) charged me $400 and left a wheel nut loose and forgot to put something else back on after replacing a belt. So after very expensive, sloppy repair work by Pep Boys, Chinatown Classic had to step in and fix Pep Boys' mistakes. Chinatown's bill was very minimal and the car was ready even earlier than promised. The car sounds great. Some shops treat women like idiots. Not these guys. I will never take my car anywhere else.
