I scheduled an appointment with this company after submitting my project. Unfortunately, the appointment was canceled at the exact scheduled time because they did not have a healthy employee available to complete the visit. While I understand that unexpected staffing issues can arise, canceling at the last minute without advance notice was both disappointing and inconvenient. I had arranged my schedule and was expecting the technician to arrive, so receiving the cancellation at the scheduled appointment time was frustrating. The company did offer to reschedule, which I appreciated. However, I hope they improve their scheduling and communication processes so customers receive as much advance notice as possible when appointments need to be changed. I am very satisfied with the quality of the electrical work performed by this company in repairing all the receptacles in my house, repairing circuitry, replacing old knob and tube wiring, and replacing the breaker box outside the house. This took from October 2025 until mid-January 2026. Throughout the process I received updates and the work performed was explained in detail. The technician, Sam, gave me a quote and scheduled another technician, Alex, to come the next day to fix the three light fixtures. Alex came and told me that the light fixtures needed to be replaced. After I purchased the lights, Tim came and finished the installations. The installations were very good, and I am grateful for Tim taking the time and effort to test and make sure that the lights were working properly. I did a general request on Yelp for a small job I needed at my house. The switch to my garbage disposal kept burning out so I needed a specialist to help. Five or Free replied with information very quickly and also was the most comprehensive in their reply. I got an appointment the following day and they kept me updated on the appointment as the day went on. Damell was the electrician assigned to my job and I could NOT have been more impressed! He was on a complicated job before mine so he was later than we scheduled; however, I was kept up to date on his arrival time (which I really appreciated). Long story short, I am sure Damell could have just quickly fixed the issue, but he was thorough in inspecting the breaker, the attic (where the wires ran) and the connected outlets. This was extremely helpful in isolating the problem. After about 90 minutes of inspecting and troubleshooting, Damell was able to fix the issue and replace the switches / outlets of the affected circuit in just 30 minutes. In addition to this, Damell made a list of possible things that could prevent this from reoccurring in the future and even created a quote for the work. I am 100% confident that this work will fix a problem that I have been dealing with for the past 2 years. We lost power in the master bath. Five or free was able to quickly give me a slot to check out the issue. It turned out to be a complex project with old wiring that needed replacement. After spending more than 6 hours of non stop work, the team fixed the issue and was able to do it efficiently which resulted in a lower final price than what they quoted initially. The team was very professional throughout the work, and ensured they keep us informed on the progress. They finally cleaned up properly and came back the second day to do some patch up paint for any hole they had to make for this work. I called Five or Free Electrical Solutions to come out to upgrade my sub panel in my garage and see why some of the outlets stopped working. The initial visit was an hour and all he did was look around and plug a diagnostic tool in the sockets and told me that I would need a full diagnostic that they sell for $475. The second technician spent an hour and unscrewed a few outlets and then suggested to rewire everything along with the sub-panel upgrade. The initial quote was 3x other quotes and then they were kind enough to give me a discount so that it was only 2x other quotes. The "diagnostic" package for $475 is a total rip off. I wanted to replace & relocate my main panel with a 200A one before installing solar. End of Nov 2022 I got quotes from electricians referred by friends and also used Yelp's request-a-quote feature to get several quotes, including Five Or Free. Ultimately I went with Five Or Free to do the job and was pleased with the experience and results. Jonathan first contacted me via Yelp, then talked over phone, and was helpful in the background through the project. Eric D came over to do the estimate and was really friendly/knowledgeable/professional. The estimate was the highest, but I was won over by the inclusion of some extra circuits I knew I'd need later, handling all permit-related work, and peace of mind knowing their high standards/guarantees. Damell and Eddie did most of the work. New panel, new riser, moving the wiring from the old panel, new ground (had to run it across the house), and the additional circuits. They were friendly and worked hard. Tim came over for some small electrical followups i.e. moving sump pump off arc fault breaker juuuust in case. There's another Eric who does permitting work who managed the PG&E and city communications + inspections, which went smoothly. He also did a lot of painting, weatherproofing, fixed a attic vent that was bent while installing the new riser, and a big list of other stuff I asked him about to make sure everything was clean and looked good at the end. I really got a "We'll keep working until it's perfect" vibe from everyone throughout, which is what I was hoping for at their higher price point. It's now been a few months since they finished the project and my solar installation by Tesla went very smoothly with them connecting into the new panel. I'd use Five or Free again for big projects or for a big bunch of smaller projects to take advantage of their project management / strong organizational support in addition to top quality work. read more

They fixed my current issue, I called them for. They were a bit pricey but I thought I get it done properly. While fixing the original issue, they told me about another one. Initially seemed like an easy fix to replace a circuit breaker but seems like there are more issues they think. My experience isn't bad because they found new issue. Luckily for me the original contract covered it, otherwise the new diagnostic was going to be expensive vs the initial free consultation. Also just changing breakers I thought was pretty expensive because no new wiring was needed. Overall depending on the technician you get, experience can vary. Update: guy came and made my bathroom lights work but ended up putting everything back on the old breaker. First they told me need a new breaker because 20amp circuit breaker on 15 amp wire. The guy who came today couldn't figure out why the new breaker kept tripping, so he put it back to 20amp. He says it's ok. He saw some 20 amp wiring in the outlets but panel wire is still 15 amp. Not happy about the back and forth and not being able to find the loose wire they think it somewhere that is causing it to trip. Funny last thing, last 2 guys didn't really clean up properly as per there 5 promises. I should have asked the service to be free lol read more

I hired FIVE OR FREE ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS to add an outdoor electrical outlet at my home. We agreed on a verbal quote, the worker did the job and upon completion was paid in full. A few days later, the company contacted me by phone to say that the worker had made a mistake and that I owed them more than initially quoted. When I asked for the original invoice, the company sent me a version with the new, higher price instead of the original quoted price. This was incredibly frustrating; the company was not transparent about its pricing, they did not communicate any additional charge beforehand, and did not provide me with a copy of the quote to which I agreed. I cannot recommend Five Or Free Electrical due to their questionable billing practices. The fact that they charged me more than originally agreed upon and failed to provide an original invoice is unacceptable. I would not hire this company again. read more

I had previously reached out to five or free for a quote but eventually had my solar company that was doing work include what I'd reached out to Five or Free for. I decided to give them another shot for a very very simple job. Probably should've done it myself all said and done. I was quoted $225 for literally 20-30mins worth of work. Cutting an existing wire that had been wired to the dishwasher and installing an outlet box for what I thought was needed for code. Seemed like a high quote for a 1/2hrs time but decided to give them the chance. After the work was done 1) i was disappointed to learn I didn't need to have this work done, it would've been fine to wire the new dishwasher directly the way the prior unit had been. It actually made our dishwasher install unnecessarily harder. Also disappointed because I feel I'd obviously overpaid, AND our quoting rep could've better educated us rather than making a quick buck. I'm in sales, I'm well versed in educating customers on what's right / needed for a job vs just pushing a sale. 2) install rep gets a 4/5. Quick and professional but didn't put the box where we'd expected or hoped. With the dishwasher plugged in we actually can't set the washer back far enough due to the plug hitting the back of the unit. So I'll end up having to rewire the dishwasher with a flat plug. 5/5 company response time and providing free quotes 4/5 person providing quote 2/5 quote / value of $ for work. 4/5 install techs professionalism 4* review is a fair representation. They are nice guys, professional, I appreciate the customer service response times(top notch) and that the job got done. But I likely won't use again. This isn't a dig or request for compensation. We ran into a small issue after the work was completed, where they had cracked a drain pipe in our crawlspace which led to some floor damage. So if you're on a budget maybe this isn't the right company. As a woman I really don't need companies to tell me I need xxxxx xtra work if it is not a necessary nor what I asked for an estimate for. UPSELL ALERT!!!! This is one greedy company. One of their electricians came by because I just needed help figuring out which receptacles should be replaced with gfci outlets to make them safer. The electrician didn't even want to address the issue with the straightforward approach. Instead they tried to upsell me on rewiring the entire property and of course charging me many times more for the courtesy. When I told him I just want to do this to make the outlets safer for now he told me straight up it wasn't worth it for them to do a small job like that and so made it clear they only are willing to do the large expensive projects and will push you to go in that direction. If you just want straightforward electrical work and repair find another company is my recommendation and steer clear of these money hungry ones. read more

It was not worth my time to request the ostensibly free assessment. Time was set up for July 12th. On the morning of July 12th, I received a text stating that they would like to reschedule to July 26th. Arrived on the 26th without our approval. The person who arrived was briefed on the problem and spent some time investigating it. Other issues discovered were appreciated. I got the quote the same day, ignored the main problem, and gave a quote for everything else except the problem I wanted fixed. Thought it was a mistake, but it's been a week and despite multiple emails, they are still not ready to provide a quote, including the main issue. My experience with them has been negative.
