We had a plumbing leak under our Willow Glen home which caused our oak hardwood floors to develop some "cupping" along the seams in two areas of first floor of the house. The moisture was pretty extensive under the house, and required a remediation company to come out and dry out the soil and exhaust under the house. Art was recommended by our previous flooring contractor who had "semi-retired". We gave Art a call and he responded quickly and came out to have a look about a month after the remediation company completed their work. He took some humidity/moisture readings of the floors throughout the house and recommended we give the floors another 30 days to further dry out, and he provided us with a quote to sand and refinish the entire 1st floor of our home (about 1100 sq ft). Art and his crew arrived on the specified start date right on time. They helped move out the final heavy pieces of furniture into a storage Pod out front and got to work right away. The floors took only 3 days to sand and refinish and they came out looking beautiful! They even replaced a few termite damaged pieces, and replaced 3 old metal heater registers with new oak to match the floors. We got a few different quotes before deciding on Art. His quote was exceptionally much lower than the other places, but it was mainly his good report and wealth of knowledge. He's old school in that he cares about what his end results looks like. He and the team are very careful with our personal items as well when moving stuff into other rooms. We got our carpets torn out, and the hardwood floors under sanded and stained. They discovered missing floors, only particle board, in about 3 areas, but they fixed it without delaying the project. For perspective: This is the 1st time I'm the homeowner and not the contractor (Many years ago I had a tile & slab co.). We just began the engineered floor install today, so I'll make sure to update this review once complete, but before I forget to write a review....I must say that Art & Willow Glen Floors deserves 5 stars. Estimate Process: Quick & painless to schedule an estimate. Art came out, reviewed options with me and provided me two-three follow-up quotes. He even delivered samples to my house!!! We compared home depot versus another shop & he helped me find the best deal. Timeline: I was initially told I'd have to wait about a month or so until he could fit me in (this is a good sign when a contractor is busy). However, I told them I was flexible, and when one of their GCs had a delay they asked if I was able to have an earlier install...which I was. *NOTE: There is a negative review about following up to an estimate. I must say, sometimes it's up to the homeowner to follow-up with the contractor. Again, good contractors are always swamped with referrals and jobs. Actual job: Art's crew is made up of good people, make sure to clean up as they install, and are very careful about any valuables (e.g. paintings and electronic equipment). While they took a bit longer than expected, their attention to detail and homeowner satisfaction more than made up for it. Great job. Completely recommend Art and crew. read more

We recently bought an old house in the Rose Garden area of San Jose. The first floor has beautiful white oak flooring approx eighty to one hundred years old. Whereas the second floor had carpeting which was not in keeping with the character of the house. After the initial consultation, Art and another member from his team came out to the house and spent several hours with us (the Friday evening of Thanksgiving week) confirming the specific details of the installation. Initially we were going to get the ground floor refinished (as well as have the work on the second floor completed),  however Art said the floor was in good condition and we could get a few more years from it before needing to get it refinished. We very much appreciated his honesty. We then proceeded up to the second floor. Once he removed some of the carpet it became apparent that only a very small portion of the existing flooring was indeed white oak. The rest was either fir or plywood. After further investigation, it was confirmed that there was pretty much no oak on the second floor except for the one room where Art had deduced that it was recently laid. After lots of discussion with Art, based on his advice we decided to install new, quarter-sawn white oak, and I must say the results are beautiful. Art and his team were lovely and friendly. They arrived on time each day as well as cleaned up at the end of each day. A lot of care was taken, not only when installing the flooring but in setting up the work area. The work area was on a balcony which had a rubber sealing. Art realised this, so he suggested that they roll out the carpet they had removed to protect the balcony. No question was a bother, to Art. He was always eager to answer. A concern my husband and I had was we wanted the floor color on the second floor to be the same as the first floor. Art brought several large white oak examples (that had been stained similar colors to our existing flooring) over for us to compare and gave us a couple of days to make the decision. After looking at the examples in the different types of light and drawing on Art's advice we went with a stain that is so unbelievably similar to the ground floor it is amazing. You can't even tell the difference. I highly recommend Willow Glen Flooring. They are an amazing team. Even when we accidentally stepped on the flooring on the last day and left a shoe print in the protective layer, I texted Art and he said it was no trouble to come out and redo that section (he was out a day later after he completed work at another project). We will definitely be calling on Willow Glen Flooring again. They have definitely set a high bar for any future contractors we get to assist with the restoration of our house. It was a really wonderful experience dealing with Arturo Villegas of Willow Glen Floor, as well as his crew. They did a beautiful job on the floor and baseboard installation. He made several visits to our house prior to doing the work, and he always answered our calls and texts very promptly, and we had quite a few of those in the weeks leading up to the work. He also put in quite a bit of time trying to find the specific floor we wanted. (We were trying to match a European manufacturer's hardwood we'd installed in another room many years earlier, and there aren't any local retail outlets that carry that brand anymore.) We had to get the floor shipped up from the Los Angeles area, and when Art heard that the truck would just drop off the flooring curbside, he offered to send some of his guys out to move it into the garage for us. It turned out the delivery guy actually rolled the pallet into our garage, and from there we were able to move the boxes ourselves into the house to acclimate, but it sure was a nice offer on his part. The communication with him was excellent. He couldn't have been more attentive. Besides being a true artisan, he is super calm, easygoing, and patient, which really helps when you're getting your house worked on and are dealing with all the stress involved with that. He knew we were on a budget, so he suggested some alternatives to our floor manufacturer's reducer strips, saving us money. Because I had a few questions, he even contacted the floor manufacturer's representative. What we really appreciated was that Art was personally on site each day, supervising and participating in the work. And what was really noteworthy is how they managed with our EXTREMELY heavy antique piano, moving it around while doing the install, putting it back in place when all done, all without scratching or denting the floor. Quite miraculous. Getting hardwood installed was a long-sought dream of ours that took a long time to achieve because we needed to save up. We're not rich people, and yet we were so appreciative of the work that Art and his crew did that we actually paid him more than what was on the final bill because we felt it was very important to give a tip for what a wonderful experience it was to deal with Art and his workers. read more

Art and crew were great! We had two rooms with your typical 1960's old-oak, tongue and groove, wood floors found in many Silicon Valley homes. They had some unusual damage from the previous owner; it looked as if someone had literally taken a hatchet to parts of the floor... Willow Glen Floor replaced those boards and filled in other areas. We did a slight grey tint on the refinishing and they look like new, you wouldn't know they weren't new floors. Great job all around. Here's a summary of what I experienced. 1. I mostly received communications directly from Art, the owner, expect for the scheduling confirmation. 2. Art almost always responded the next day, but typically after 5:30PM. I'm guessing he's working on floors during the day and responding to emails at night. 3. All the guys I encountered were very friendly. 4. They showed up in the time-frame they committed to every day. They said they would be there between 8 & 9AM each day, and there were cars parked out front waiting for the boss before 8 each day. They were out by 3:00PM each day. 5. Things were kept amazingly clean! We didn't notice any excessive dust throughout the house. Seriously, I think they kept things cleaner than we do. 6. They finished two rooms in 4 days, including moving furniture in and out. They came back on a Sunday morning to move furniture back in as we wanted to paint before they came back in. This was an extra effort for them at no additional cost. Much appreciated! 7. We purchased the flush custom floor vents, they fit perfect and I recommend this option as floor vents that stick out, especially the ugly old metal ones always seem to get in the way. 8. I didn't do multiple quotes, but compared to having floors done years ago, I felt their pricing was very reasonable, especially for the quality and cleanliness of the restoration. I'm so disappointed to write this review. I called to get an estimate for the refinishing of my entryway. The woman on the telephone was nice and professional and set up an appointment. Art showed up on time and was super friendly, I was happy get the job done and give them my business. When he left he said he would email me with the quote. A week passes... nothing. I send them an email (he left his card) just to touch base and verify that he had my correct contact info... nothing. Even if he decided that he was too busy or the job was too small, I don't think it is asking too much to reply to an email. I agree with all the other reviewers who gave Art and his talented team of Faustino and Antonio 5-stars. Here is our experience. During the first visit Art give us an accurate estimate and a firm start date, Art patiently answered all our questions. He gained our trust in that very first meeting. What distinguishes a gorgeous floor is how transitions are made between rooms, and how a floor is finished off at the perimeter. At doorways, the trim needs to be expertly cut. At the walls, there can't be any boards that are only 1-2" wide. Art made sure everything was beautifully finished. Each corner was mitered and at the front door, Art made sure the grain matched at each mitered corner. Stunning! Beyond what we asked for and beyond what we expected. 2. Art was even more selective about the flooring boards he used than we were! He asked us the first few times he saw even a small imperfection what we wanted to do with the whole plank. He would have used it if we asked him to, he would put it aside if we wanted him to. They were set aside. Once he calibrated our tolerance/intolerance for questionable boards, he went forward and made great decisions on our behalf. 3. Art and his crew meticulously selected each board to look good next to the ones that surrounded it. He did this 100% of the time. 4. Art and his crew installed each board with care. Every single board! There were no mars or scratches, no forcing a piece that wouldn't fit. 5. Art always came up with creative, aesthetically pleasing solutions for tricky corners. 6. As though all of the above wasn't enough, even more impressive: we were installing a beautiful wood floor precision manufactured in Sweden. The instructions were terrible! The manner in which it goes together is totally different from almost any other manufacturer. So Art took the time to get in touch with two installers who had a lot of experience with these particular floors, understood the tips and tricks, and then installed the floor flawlessly. He went the extra yard, no the extra mile. 7. Art is unfailingly cheerful and exceedingly pleasant to deal with. He has clear, proactive communication with his clients. 8. Art is very respectful towards his crew. If you've ever had a contractor in your house screaming all day at his workers you know how horrible it is to live in that environment. Art is just the opposite - clearly communicates high standards and readily shows appreciation for a job well done. No a job perfectly done. 9. Art said he'd be onsite at 8.30 AM. He was. Every single day he worked at our house. 10. We decided to do a lot of the prep work ourselves. It was more important to us to hire the very best, most talented person to lay the floor and do the finish work, and we would happily do the unskilled dirty jobs. Art was incredibly helpful and supportive. He loaned us his grinder so we could level a high spot on our concrete floor. He let us have a pint of wood sealer to finish the trim around the doors. Had he not done that, it would have cost us $200 to buy a gallon, the minimum you can buy. And, Art loaned us his drill driver - to install bolts for a new toilet - which had nothing to do with laying the floor! This is a very, very nice guy! 11. The work area was kept very neat and orderly. At the end of each day, the house was left extremely clean. 12. Art genuinely cares about people, and it shows. We just had our hardwood floors refinished by Art and his crew through Willow Glen Floors and we couldn't be happier. They were extremely professional and easy to work with and our floors looks amazing!! They were also very reasonably priced. :-) We had lots of damaged wood that they replaced and stained wood that they were able to sand out. They finished the job in a timely manner and the house was very clean afterwards (all garbage/dust removed). We were told by a number of other floor installers that we could not replace the carpet with real hardwood flooring in two of our rooms, because the rooms were on cement slabs. Art proved them wrong. Testing the cement for moisture, applying the water sealant, underlying plywood and then perfectly matching the original hardwood that is in the rest of my house - Art was able to complete the job on time and for a price comparable to what others quoted for manufactured floating flooring. It was an easy decision to give 5-stars to these guys. My family was moving to a new home and the hardwood floor in the main room needed to be refinished due to damage from prior owners. Working on a tight timeline, we lined up a contractor to do the work and he disappeared two-days prior to starting the job. Facing a serious time crunch, we called Art. Despite their schedule already being booked, Art evaluated the job, understood our timeline and did the work after hours. The finished product was perfect. Every corner and edge was as perfect as the main sections of the floor. On top of the excellent work, it was a great pleasure working with Art. Consider using Art for new flooring, as well as refinishing. He just installed 3100 sq. ft. of new Monarch flooring in our Willow Glen home....It has gone off without a hitch. He is courteous, patient, knowledgeable, and hands on with his crew making sure things are perfect. He replaced planks that weren't "quite right" in appearance, made custom fitting an art form, including cutting a stone fireplace so that wood went under the stone instead of butting up against it, insured that floor outlets could be placed in the right locations pending future furniture locations (neat trick...putting a wire through the subfloor and installing over it...), he worked superbly with and around our painter. His price was super competitive, because he keeps low overhead...no store front location, just really good workers and service. BTW, we only had about 100 sq. ft. of overage. NO WASTE!, and we paid for the material direct to the wholesaler, so no worry about a mechanics lien. read more

We were looking to get our floors repolished, and found Willow Glen Floor through Yelp. Art was very courteous and approachable when he came on site to appraise the work. There were some squeaky boards that I had questions about, and Art kindly fielded all of my questions. As promised, Art sent out a quote not long after the appraisal. I wanted to go with Willow Glen Floor, and contacted them several times to see if I could work with them on the price to bring it closer to other bids (their bid was about $500 more than the lowest bid). I phoned in several times to discuss this, and was told both times that Art would have to get back to me - which he never did. As I wrote in another review, I think there's a demand-supply imbalance in the Valley for these services in general, but being in a customer-oriented industry myself, I make it a priority to treat potential customers with the same responsiveness as existing customers. Maybe this is too much to expect at present, but certainly not too much to hope for, for the future. read more

I had a great experience with Willow Glen Floors. Art and his team were easy to work with, did everything he said he would when he said he would, and there were no surprises when he was done. They were right on time every day, and ready to work. The result is FANTASTIC. Their attention to detail is excellent: they scribed a cut around my fireplace, they made the thresholds to the bathrooms (with tile floors) match up perfectly in height so that there's nothing to trip on, and paid attention to many details that I wouldn't have even thought of. Well, Art and his team did it again! Another outstanding job that exceeded our expectations. We had our kitchen remodeled and wanted to salvage the existing hardwood floor and add to it. It was not an easy job! They removed boards that were too damaged to save and replaced them with new, added a whole new section for the kitchen extension and it all flows beautifully. We also had the team install baseboards and they did a beautiful job. Again, it was no easy task because they had to match 70 year old baseboards that are no longer on the market. It would have cost us more money to have custom boards made, but instead, Art actually took two separate types of baseboard and pieced them together to replicate the old design. Fabulous job and my floor is gorgeous! You will not find a more professional, reliable, friendly and talented floor contractor than Art. We are looking forward to the next project. read more

Working with Art at Willow Glen Floor was great. They installed ~300 sq ft of new white oak to go with ~900 more sq ft of existing white oak, and refinished the whole lot. Came out beautifully, you can't tell where the old stopped and the new began. Originally contacted them in October of 2017. Was told that they're extremely busy so they wouldn't be able to give me an estimate until after Thanksgiving. When I finally got my estimate in January, I scheduled the the job to be done in the end of March. When the week finally came, I heard nothing from them, so I contacted Jeanne the day before the job was supposed to be done. She said she would call me back in 30 minutes but she never called back. In the end I sent an email and finally got a response back at 11pm saying that they would not be able to perform the job. She did not even offer another date. I replied to her email asking her if we can reschedule and got no response. I basically wasted almost half an year waiting for them, and they just cancelled it like nothing happened. read more

We had Art and his crew install some new flooring as part of a remodel, weave it in to the existing 15 year old floor, add three stair treads, put some decorative inlaid boards, and then sand, stain and finish the whole thing. It looks brand new. Their customer service was phenomenal - arriving on time (actually early and waited outside), cleaning up each day, and finishing the project exactly when they said. Art and his crew did a beautiful job on our floors. We chose a stain he created that was 1/2 Sedona and 1/2 Natural it is gorgeous.
