Got to love this place because it's down home southern cooking without all the lard and stuff that makes you regret the meal before you're finished eating eating it, seriously. My honey is not a big fan of "country cooking" places but she's okay with this one. They do a good job of lightly dusting & non-greasy frying so that's a good start but you can get most menu items grilled or blackened which is a very good thing for her. It's not a huge menu but something for most appetites. There's steak burgers, grilled chicken, hamburger steak and a ribeye but their big focus is on their catfish. You can get platters, Po boys and even an AYCE option. They also have tilapia (not a good option), popcorn shrimp, garlic herb or fried shrimp, frog legs and their cod is pretty good too. My main decision was did I want my catfish Fried or blackened , both turned out fantastic. I and brother in law got blackened but sister in law liked fried. I was impressed bc most of our party didn't order fish at all (2 were vegetarian) and everyone left stuffed and happy. All sides and portions were as hearty as you'll ever see for the meager prices. I spent two months in the area working and visited Willow Pond several times. I grew up eating catfish so I was anxious to try it. In all, I ate fried catfish three times and blackened once. The fried catfish was not good at all the first and third times. It was obvious that it was precooked and served as needed. It was not crunchy at all, and was actually tough. The second time the fish was very freshly cooked and good. The blackened was ok. Another time I got a hamburger steak. It was a small overcooked hamburger with no gravy. It was so dry and tough I could hardly eat it. They serve white beans when you sit down that are very good. Sometimes they include a plate of onions with it and sometimes not. The hush puppies are also good. This place would be a real catfish restaurant if they cooked the fish to order. As they serve them now, it is very hit or miss. read more

Staying nearby at an RV park the owner recommended we try out this great restaurant that has the best blackberry cobbler. We unfortunately were on a strict diet so didn't get to try out the cobbler. If I had to rate this place based on their hush puppies, I'd give 'em 5 stars. If I had to rate them on everything else, I'd give them -1 stars. So I averaged the two together to get 2 stars. I'm not exactly a mathematician, so I'm not sure how accurate that is... Anyhow, here's the problem. In the middle of summer, I order a cheeseburger. It arrives with a tomato so pale and mealy, it could have come from North Dakota in February. The cheese on my burger never melted, or considered melting, in spite of the heat of the burger itself. That worried me, and made me wonder about its molecular structure. Lastly, it was topped with the heel leaf of an iceberg lettuce head, shock white and probably an inch thick. Oh, yummy! Also, they don't serve butter to slather on their delicious hush puppies, or on their baked potato, or on their corn. They serve a basket full of mini tubs of hydrogenated non-dairy spread. The baked potato comes with a tube of goo that is supposedly sour cream. My husband got the catfish po-boy, which turned out to be a split hoagie bun with a piece of unseasoned catfish. I am not a po-boy expert, but I think it involves more than bread and protein. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I love country cooking. I love little hole in the wall restaurants. I don't need it to be fancy, I don't need it to be high brow. I just want to eat actual food. They place was totally packed, which gave me a lot of insight into what people in the middle of nowhere are willing to settle for on a Sunday afternoon when they don't want to cook. Hearty portions, delicious food! The Fried Catfish was done just right. The staff was friendly, polite and very helpful. I ordered takeout and ate it on the benches outside to avoid the crowds. The girl who took my order came outside just to check on me a few times, she was very sweet. I've been here a few times over the last couple years. My parents have a place on lake Barkley, & sometimes when they aren't in the mood to cook when I visit, we go to Willow Pond. Just thinking about the place makes my mouth wet. Willow Pond serves you literally bowls of hush puppies throughout your meal. Before you get your food, during & after. I honestly eat like 20 of them. I don't like to admit it, but I leave every time feeling like I've gained 5 pounds. So, the hush puppies are a must. They have a tomato sweet relish or something on the table in a squeeze bottle. Try that on the hush puppies. You won't be sorry. Okay, okay, now to the food. The place is a little, local restaurant with simple fare & it's yummy. I bounce between the grilled, blackened cat fish, or the fried catfish. It's Kentucky, everyone serves & everyone loves catfish. I usually get fries & they're very good. One of the sides you can get is white beans, which you can get with onions or not. I don't get onions cause I'm not a huge fan of onions but my parents love them with onions. If you do try the beans, crunch up a couple hush puppies & put a little of the tomato relish in it. So yummy. I've heard the pies & cakes are great, but I've never tried them because I'm always stuffed from the food & all those HUSH PUPPIES!! read more

This is a nice restaurant friendly service but our waitress was less than attentive! we went without drink refills for almost 30 minutes and the restaurant at the time was busy but not full. The food is at best mediocre for the price and amount of food you get! Menu selection could be better also. Was not pleased with the food it was greasy and the hush puppies were burned. Luckily the white beans were very good cause that ended up being the best part of the meal. Delicious small town southern cooking. I love how this place has not lost their identity and tried to become something different. Bottomless hush puppies (yes we tested the bottomless) delicious white bean soup with homemade jalapeño jelly (just add lots your spouse will thank you later), fried catfish (serious people this isn't a south beach diet friendly spot) and homemade hand cut fries also not to forget the delicious sweet tea (I would have asked for a to go gallon if I thought it was allowed). The service was great and the server had a great personality and was very attentive. For most mortals 2 pieces of catfish are enough, but if you are trying to win a competition attempt bottomless just maybe pass on the hush puppies. Will be back when in town. read more
