We had a little trouble finding this place as it's tucked in the back of the Village and downstairs. Once we did find it, we were seated pretty quickly. There were only a couple other tables so it was quiet and relaxing. The view over the lake is really pretty, especially watching the birds and albino squirrels running around. We both had mugs of warm and tasty coffee. We also both ordered the traditional breakfast. His was with eggs over easy, delicious sage sausage and wheat toast. I had scrambled eggs, the sugar cured ham ( a nice thick piece), and a biscuit with sausage pepper gravy. The house potatoes were crispy on the outside, the fed and fluffy on the inside. He also ordered orange juice that came in a pint glass and tasted freshly squeezed. Our waitress was working solo and did a great job. If we are ever back this way, we would definitely stay in one of the rooms and dine here again read more

This was actually a really good restaurant. I was on business and usually with buffets, at hotels especially, they tend to give low quality food. The food served here no matter breakfast, lunch, or dinner was great for the 2 days (spread across 1 full day and two half days I was in the area) was pretty good. When I had arrived, the lunch was a choice of turkey, ham, or roast beef cold cut sandwiches, plain potato chips (Ruffles or Lay's brand), a cookie, a bag of toppings (tomato, lettuce and pickle), and a fruit (banana or apple). I liked the idea of having the toppings separate as this could have made each of the choices of sandwiches soggy. The soft drinks, water, and iced tea (sweet and unsweet) were provided in a side room. This went on for like the two other days I had lunch. The first dinner had three stations arranged if one walked in on the left and seating on the right. The first night there was a salad bar with three dressings (including Italian and Ranch), toppings (shredded cheese, cucumbers, etc.) and a pot of chili. Then there was a station for mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, steamed vegetables (carrots, beans, etc.), rolls, and corn bread. Then there was a station with hushpuppies and breaded fish (which was really good- reminded me of Long John Silvers). The last station close to the wall had three desserts: strawberry and raspberry pies and a chocolate slice of cake with whipped cream as one of the layers. The second night dinner had smaller variety. Salad station again with the three dressings, toppings (tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded cheese, etc.) and the pot of chili. The second station had scalloped potatoes, grilled chicken, meat loaf, corn and carrots (in separate dishes) and rolls. The dessert bar had slightly less options as well (chocolate slice of cake like the day before and a banana pudding with whipped cream). The breakfast on both days were similar in what they had. The first day had one station with sliced fruit (honeydew melon, cantaloupe, etc.) and yogurt (Dannon, Yoplait, etc. in ice). The second day I had breakfast, the restaurant had switched out the sliced fruit bowl with watermelon slices. The next station had biscuits and gravy, fried potato wedges, and baked apples with cinnamon. They ended up switching out the potato wedges with a potato casserole on the same first day! The next station had bacon, sausage links, and French toast sticks. They also had little fried chicken balls (kind of like the small chicken balls that Chick Fil A offers as an entree (or side))- I have not had Chick Fil A in a while. They also had an area with drinks (coffee dispensers, tea dispensers, and a ice bowl with grape, pineapple, orange, and apple juices). The only issue I had with the restaurant was that they did not have any decaf soft drinks. I try to drink caffeine before 2 p.m. each day and this was an inconvenience during dinner times. WOW, looking back at this, I think I remembered everything! I never did well on tests throughout my life if I never studied and I could have sworn I did not have photographic memory. I guess because I am a foodie, I will credit my stomach for helping my mind recollect all these offerings! Edit: Okay fine, you got me. I forgot the toppings for the salad and the mac and cheese. Amazing view of Kentucky Lake!!!! The lodge restaurant sits in the perfect spot to watch the glorious sunrise!!! Great service! Our server Kayla was a delight! The food is wonderful. I dined at the Harbor Lights Restaurant several times during my stay at Kentucky Dam Village Resort. Many of the dinners, luncheons were held there. Sometimes we would go there for lunch as a group. I attended a ladies tea that was catered by Harbor Lights. They served finger sandwiches made with chicken salad and home made pimento cheese, a cheese platter with assorted crackers, mini lemon, raspberry and chocolate cheesecakes, sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate covered strawberries. They also have a decent salad bar with bison chili, chicken fajita soup and chicken Florentine soup. It's really an alright place to eat that's not to expensive and you don't have to drive very far to get there. read more

Keep in mind, this has been my family's Thanksgiving meal for the past 2 years. I haven't been for a typical meal in a few years. It's not gourmet, it's more like comfort food. If you're looking for something unique and inspiring, go to Patti's or somewhere in Paducah. The food and service were really outstanding. It was the best meatloaf I have ever had, seriously. It was all buffet and I expect that's how it is much of the time, even on non-holidays. The rest of the food wasn't fancy or creative, but it was all good. That is, except for the roast beef from the carving station. The roast beef was fairly dry, but with meatloaf that good, don't waste time on the carving station! There is a limited bar, but an AMAZING view. The price was high for Thanksgiving, but that's what you expect on a holiday meal. A renovation would appreciated, but moat of this crowd probably doesn't care too much. read more

Not a high end restaurant but great comfort food with excellent service. We were there for the new year and there were very few people staying at the State Park Resort but that didn't stop them from serving us several great meals. We had dinner our first night in town since it was so convenient. I had the chicken cordon blue and the wife had a Kentucky hot brown. Both were very good and more than filling. I could have two sides with my meal or for a dollar more one side and the soup and salad bar. I went with the upgrade and it was well worth it. The salad bar was nothing spectacular but was more than full of choices. They had bison chili and as a huge fan of chili, there was no way I was passing on it. The chili was very thick and meaty and had a great flavor. It was Texas style with beans which I like sometimes. Excellent hearty chili. We went back another evening when the restaurant we planned on attending was closed and had another great meal. I had the All American burger and the wife had the grilled chicken breast. I got my choice of cheese on it and chose to try their homemade kettle chips. Where were warm, crispy and had a nice seasoning on them. The burger was thick and juicy and I again had the bison chili with the salad bar. The chicken breast was small, but well cooked and juicy. With the soup and salad my wife had plenty to eat. We were were the only people in the restaurant at the end of our meal and the chef sent our free dessert he wanted us to try. It was a slightly sweet and savory shortcake style cupcake with a carmel/chocolate sauce topped with a sour cream icing and it was very good. Lastly, we had breakfast our last morning. Your normal eggs, sausage, taters with toast for me and the same with bacon for the wife. Cooked perfectly with a full pitcher of coffee. Service for all three meals was excellent and all the meals were reasonably price between $10-$13 each. The serve beer, wine and mixed drinks and our domestics were cheap at $3 each. If you're at the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park and you feel like you just have to check out the restaurant at the Village Inn Lodge, then go ahead and check out Harbor Lights Restaurant. But, if you're not dying to see what it's all about for some reason, I'd recommend just skipping it. Full disclosure, I only experienced breakfast here. I didn't try anything from the lunch or dinner menu, so I can't offer an opinion on those, but judging from the location itself, the menu, and the quality of the breakfast food, I would imagine it's best left skipped over as well. I opted for the breakfast buffet (around $9). The menu seemed to include options that were pretty similar to the buffet anyway, and I could see the dishes of several individuals around me, and decided I'd rather make my own serving and be able to see the options before plating them up for myself. The buffet was decently sized, but nothing spectacular. It included biscuits, with options of jam, butter, or honey, gravy, bacon, sausage, two types of scrambled eggs (with ham & cheese or plain), oatmeal, grits, cereal (but oddly enough, no milk), French toast sticks, fried apples, and hash browns. (If I recall correctly that is every single item that was available.) My first plate consisted of biscuits and gravy, bacon, hash browns, and plain scrambled eggs. The biscuits and gravy were not good. The biscuits were very tough and obviously overcooked. The tops/bottoms were inedible for me, even when soaked with gravy. The gravy was obviously from a packet - not seasoned well and not the right consistency. The eggs were alright, but required lots of salt and pepper. The bacon was actually great, cooked perfectly. And the hash browns were delicious. I'm not sure what was in them, but they had an almost cheesy flavor. Whatever they were mixed/seasoned with saved that entire plate for me. My second plate consisted of French toast sticks and after my first bite I only ate any of them so I didn't seem so wasteful. Since I hadn't had much more than hash browns and bacon at that point I went back up for cereal, because you know what that's going to be like, and that's when I discovered there was no option for milk. So.. I skipped that and got some grits with brown sugar and baked apples. And some more hash browns. The grits were alright. Nothing special. And the apples were a bit strong in flavor for me. Basically, if you eat here, eat hash browns. They brought this review up from a one star to a two star rating. read more

What a Thanksgiving feast!!! My brother-in-law and sister-in-law have made it a family tradition to take their brood to this joint each year, and this year, my boys and in-laws and I were able to join in. Let me tell you, it was well worth it. We were under the impression that they didn't take reservations, but I overheard the hostess mention that they took reservations for the first time this year. Too bad we didn't get in on that, because we ended up waiting 50 minutes with 10 children. The waiting area was in the upstairs portion with plenty of space and a pianist to entertain. All in all, the time went by pretty fast. Once seated and settled, we ordered our drinks (which unfortunately were never refilled). The plus side was, they served Coke products. The food set up was fabulous. There was a salad bar with nearly every salad one could imagine (i.e. green salad, broccoli salad, macaroni salad, pasta salad, etc.). The sides included mashed potatoes (with skins), green beans with bacon (cooked from either fresh or frozen, definitely not canned), corn (probably canned), sweet potato chunks with marshmallows baked on top, dressing, broccoli and cheese casserole, sauteed fresh veggies and rolls. Mains included roast beef carved on demand, ham, turkey, meatloaf, fried catfish and hushpuppies, and fried chicken. Desserts included fruit cobblers, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, ice cream, cakes, etc. There was truly something for everyone. Every thing from the dinner that I put into my mouth was delectable. If I could change one thing, I would have had the blackberry cobbler be a little less sweet. Other than that, it was all top notch. While I can't speak to their food on the regular, I hope to go back again for their Thanksgiving feast in the future. Sooooo good. While staying at the Kentucky Dam Village, I knew there was a restaurant and figured it was worth a try before heading out to the Fancy Farm Picnic. I opted for the breakfast buffet because I did not know what I was craving that morning. Plus, there were 3 tables of buffet choices, so I figured it was probably good considering the amount to pick from. There were two different types of eggs, both scrambled, but one contained ham. You had your fruit and cereal options, of course. There was bacon (kind of overcooked in my opinion) and sausage patties (meh). Selection included grits and baked apples as well. I must say it was one of the few breakfast places I have seen baked apples as an option. The apples were tasty too. Skip the French toast sticks -there was nothing good about those. The biscuits and gravy were decent. The gravy was obviously not homemade but not terrible. The best item on the buffet menu was the hash browns. I don't know what made them so good, but I had 2 servings of them. I might have not finished the eggs and French toast sticks, but I always finished my hash browns. For all you can eat, the food being decent and clean, I would say the nine dollars was worth it. If it was over that amount, I would have been upset. If I stay there again, I would try ordering off the breakfast menu. read more

First time eating here. In town for a business trip and stayed at the lodge and ate at the Harbor Lights. I have eaten at these lodge restaurants at many of the parks in KY and they all seem to have pretty good food. Not to many options but the food is good. The only problem I had at the HLR is that the service wasn't much. I waited at the hostess stand for a full 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged me and the place was not busy at all. At the time I was there I was the only one waiting to be seated and there were only about 4 or 5 other tables being used. Anyway after being seated the service did not get much better. It wasn't the worst I have ever had but certainly wasn't the best. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best I would give the service here a 3. read more

My family and I have eaten the buffet here for breakfast and dinner, and both meals were terrible. The chicken was dry, the catfish was bony and uncooked, the grits and eggs were cold, and the mashed potatoes only tasted like salt. Our service was also poor both times. The only thing which exceeded my expectations was their selection of bourbon, which made my visit here tolerable. DON'T eat here because of proximity to the inn; it's not worth it. read more

Staying at the lodge and we were looking forward to the restaurant based on Yelp reviews. We had dinner and breakfast here and neither were noteworthy. The dinner buffet was $20 and breakfast $9. Both looked nice but the majority of the food looked premade- like reheated from a box or can. There were porkchops with uniform grill marks, lots of fried foods, roast beef and assorted sides. At breakfast the food was ok but a bit cold and the bacon and sausage were hard. This is definitely not a 1 $ sign meal. Yelp needs to update. On the up side the staff were wonderful! The restaurant is somewhat hidden. It was tucked in a club that is very non-descript from the front but beautiful in back. The view was incredible. Get a window seat. I tried the buffet to test the food. The fried chicken, fried catfish, flank steak, and pork were all worth it. The bison chili was just chili, but still good. The only thing I'd change is the green beans. I can't handle canned beans. The vegetable medley, however, was delicious. My wife could have made a meal out of the cheesy hash browns. I wanted more. She still thinks we slipped into a dining room that was only for residents or guests of the village. Did we? I don't know. If so, we'll sneak in again next time we're in the area. read more

Food is usually very good. Problem is with management!! They can't keep good servers because of playhouse upper and middle managers have had for long time. The manager resides within the park but does a very poor job of keeping the service quality constant. The Kentucky STATE park Cabinet need to look into the actual day to day operation. The bar had been sitting there and not all of the items looked fresh so we passed on that which I think was the wiser choice because everything we order was fantastic. I would go back it was great! The only reason they didn't get 5 is because the bar, the macaroni wasn't very good, and the water had a very odd taste I'd get soda or tea if I was you. The fried green tomatoes are fresh and I loved the dip that came with it even though I thought I would not. We got the hotdog but that's not what it is called on the menu for our son and he demolished it. It was just a 1.00 more than the kids menu but he got fries with it. Stopped here for lunch a few weeks back on our way down to Knoxville. Was a little confusing to find as there was no sign on the concrete building with a restaurant name on it. It's below a state park visitors center type place. Beautiful view of KY lake. Service was a little slow but we were there at like 2 o'clock so awkward time for then I'm sure. We both enjoyed the food! My fiancé had the Kentucky brown which he states was good but he's had better. I had the catfish with grilled veggies and a baked potato. It also came with hush puppies. I highly recommend this dish!! The catfish was perfect, veggies delish, and the hush puppies were just a little different but a good different. The only big negative for me was the water was TERRIBLE. I guess it's to be expected right next to the lake...but I recommend getting a soda instead. Otherwise the food was great! read more
