With the new owners, I think this place has a real chance at being what it used to be if not better. The improvements have really taken it to another level. I can't say enough good with the collaborations between a wonderful nonprofits called the lost Angels.. seeing the CZinger here for the first time. I had paid for a membership, but I guess things changed and I lost that yearly subscription. Doesn't matter. I'm just sad that they are removing the balcony because that's where a lot of professional drifters would come to test out their cars. Big Willow will definitely remain as one of the best courses in the country. I would put this place maybe only second to Laguna Seca. read more

I love this place! Willow Springs is a fantastic spot, much larger than I expected, with tons of events and areas to explore. The gift shop is a real highlight--open every time I've been, and always stocked with awesome gear and unique souvenirs to take home. For a raceway, it's impressively well-organized and always a pleasure to visit. I'll definitely keep making the drive back whenever I can. A cool place to go to take your toy for some track time. They have multiple tracks here to play around: Big Willow, Balcony Autocross and Skid Pad, Horse Thief Mile, Willow Springs Kart Track, Streets of Willow Springs, Speedway Willow Springs, and Walt James Stadium. I've been here a handful of times with the organizers Xtreme Speed Track Events and Speed Ventures. Fun, organized, and good people. I've only been on Streets of Willow Springs and have yet to try the others. As far as Streets goes, it's a short and technical track. Fun, and a great starting point to learn your lines and your car. A food truck is available on site but it is CASH ONLY. I believe there's a restaurant as well. They have gas available to pump (91 unleaded, 101 unleaded, 110 leaded). There's also a tire shop on the premises. It's quite a drive to get here if you're from Orange County (or anywhere honestly), but it's worth it! read more

Best Place Ever!!! Well maybe... This historical venue for speed is a great place. You can tell the owners try to keep it somewhat updated (I'm looking at you buttonwillow) and Big Willow is a blast to drive. I live next to Sonoma Raceway so that's my standard to compare against and although the track surface has not changed and is full of imperfections, the facilities are top notch for a raceway. With that being said, I'd like to focus on the restaurant. It's great! They have a MASSIVE menu for a track venue in the middle of the desert. They even have a bar (Say Whaaaat?!). Pro Tip: if you're there on a busy track day, get there early, trust me. However if your into getting some eats while at a fast and fun track, this is your jam! THANK YOU WILLOW SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY!!! ----- Longer Review Our son is quite the car enthusiast. We visited Southern California - Palm Desert, Yucaipa, and Malibu - for Spring Break 2021. And we enjoyed a day of racing school at Willow Springs. 00 - FINDING EXTREME SPEED TRACK EVENTS; INTRODUCTIONS We like Jay Leno's Garage (TV show) and knew of Willow Springs race track from his show... and we thought maybe we could race there. We didn't know much more than that... we suspected it was located closer to Palm Springs, east of Los Angeles. That's about all we knew. It out that Willow Springs is located north of LA, in the Mojave Desert, near Edwards Air Force Base. Our son and I though maybe we could enjoy some auto racing on this trip. I explored Willow Springs' website and they have a list of groups who regularly race there, and who teach others to race there. Extreme Speed Track Events provided us a driving school - to learn how to race, to safely go around the track and have a good time, and to maybe learn some "enhanced" driving skills. 01 - ARRIVAL We visited the office in the main building and the lady there pointed us to The Streets at Willow Springs. At The Streets, we could see all the tracks from where we were we spent the first little bit in the building at The Streets of Willow. Indoors with big windows to see the track. Plenty of space for tables, chairs, etc. Restrooms, etc. 02 - THE STREETS AT WILLOW The Streets at Willow has elevation changes and many curves. It's a thrill to drive. Given our novice status as drivers, our peak speeds were 85-90 mph, which was fast enough; more skilled drivers can clearly go faster. Our track times were ~ 2 minutes. Mark still has the track record for his car's class (a Miata) at ~ 1:20... and he is QUITE the driver... wow... riding with him really helped me better understand what they were teaching us this day... seeing the curves... anticipating the track... and controlling the car not just with the brakes but with pressing and easing off the gas pedal, too. 03 - SKILLS SESSIONS At the one end of the Streets at Willow is the skid pad. This is where we learned and practiced braking and turning. After the first laps, then we had a combination of driving in circles, and high-speed braking. The circles were ~ 80 feet around... and by driving faster, and turning the wheel more we saw how that didn't help - turning the wheel more did not make us turn any more tightly... to get more traction you slowed down, steered back a little and then had more grip, better control. The fast braking helped us time going faster into turns, slowing, then powering out of the corners. Our son and daughter each got turns in the Miatas, making donuts and spinning out. Our son did some drifting on the skid pad, too! 04 - A RIDE WITH THE TRACK RECORD HOLDER I got to ride with Mark in his Miata, which helped learn what they were teaching us about slowing down and powering through the turn... when I was back in his Celica, he was really hitting the lowest curve hard then powering back uphill. 05 - AND THEN IT WAS JUST US Shortly after lunch all drivers on the other courses had all left. 06 - HORSE THIEF MILE & BIG WILLOW After another round of laps on The Streets of Willow, Rob and Mark led us around several laps on Horse Thief Mile and Big Willow... in between we went to the skid pad and our son had an awesome donut/burnout... he was really having fun making smoke and was showing off what he learned this day! Horse Thief Mile is more up the hillside, and steeper... noticeably steeper. Not as steep as a roller coaster, but similar...since in a car you're controlling, not a coaster car that is riding on tracks/rails... but driving Horse Thief Mile felt almost like we were on a roller coaster... and our daughter and our son were both pushing their cars to slide a bit through the turns. Big Willow is in the movie "Ford v. Ferrari." While the movie's about racing at Le Mans, in France, Ken Miles races Big Willow early in the movie. I won't spoil what happens on the track... but... thanks to Extreme Track Events we drove on that very track!!! We were at Willow Springs from ~ 8am ~ 5pm... such a fun and wonderful day. Yes, we also learned how to be better drivers, and how to race. Yes, we want to come back, and to do it again. I had all but forgotten about my experience years ago on the big track. I recently viewed Ford v Ferrari were this awesome track had some considerable time on the screen. There are two primary tracks and I've only driven on the larger of the two. The streets track is looks really awesome, but the main big track is just exceptionally awesome. Plenty of track to get well up into speeds in the range of 150mph along with some serious turns that heavily test the drivers acumen. The track variable elevation leading to one major blind turn before the sweeping back straight away put butterflies in my stomach. So cool that this back straight is where you can hammer your ride and crank up the mph. I was able to get up to 160mph before I had to get out of the throttle and give the brakes a real work out leading into the last two turns before the front straight to the finish line. Yet another option to hammer the throttle before going into the right turns as you work your way up in elevation. I miss hanging out with my friends on the Dodge Viper track days. Just tickling the keyboard with this review makes me think about how much I miss putting a well tuned muscle car through the paces. I wish I was able to see motorcycles on this track. It was a stop on the sport bike circuit many years ago. The track staff are efficient and the track maintenance is exceptional. read more

I've been coming to Willow Springs International Raceway regularly for well over a decade. BIG WILLOW This is the fastest track on the WSIR facility. It is amazing, and super fun! This is the place where Ford V Ferrari movie was filmed. The track is suuuuuuper fun to drive. This is actually my favorite track to drive in Southern California because it has elevation changes, high speed corners, a long straight for high horsepower cars, and tight, technical sections. It's perfect for fast cars, and even better for FAST DRIVERS. STREETS OF WILLOW This is the first racetrack I ever drove when I moved to Southern Cali. This course is really technical and fun, with elevation changes, and a long straight. This one is popular for lower horsepower cars and drivers with less experience, but don't let that statement fool you. PLENTY of seasoned drivers drive The Streets because it is super fun, and a great way to keep your skills up! HORSE THIEF MILE This course is super tight, with steep elevation changes. It's super popular for drifting - especially for drivers with a higher skill level. BALCONY This is a large skidpad, which is perfect for people who are still developing their skills in drifting, autocross, or other types of car control exercises. Wonderful track close to LA County. Willow Springs is one of the oldest tracks still operating in Southern California. There is a whole lot of history here from professionals to movie stars. Streets of Willow is a smaller technical track, but Big Willow will certainly give those bigger speed demons a good challenge. The California Superbike School makes Willow Springs one of their courses, and it is quite worth the money. There are few private paddocks, so some extra preparation is necessary to set up camp. read more

WSIR is the 1st Racetrack I ever drove so I will always have a soft spot for it. For that it should get half a point. Now to the beef. That was over 12 years ago and the only thing that has changed is they resurfaced a year ago. I don't know about you but every place else in SoCal has changed atleast once over that span of time. In my opinion the facilities are subpar except for the restaurant. The tracks in NorCal (Laguna Seca, Sonoma, Thunderhill) as well as AutoClub, Buttonwillow, Spring Mountain and Thermal Track Club put old tired WSIR to shame. What keeps me coming back is the SPEED (+150mph) on the straight, the OMEGA and the High Speed Sweeper (T8) and Decreasing Radius (T9). Definitely not a very technical track but you will definitely pay the price if you are on the GO pedal and make a mistake. Make sure to bring your CAJONES as WSIR will test them out.... read more

Willow Springs International Raceway (WSIR) is one of the most popular raceways in So-Cal attracting even audiences out of state and up Nor-Cal. It has been around since 1953, which makes it the longest surviving road-racing course in America! For those of you who do enjoy tracking your vehicle, I'd recommend this raceway because it is challenging but at the same time allows drivers/riders/karters the ability to access nearly 100 percent view of the track from any vantage point. It's definitely a place to visit even if you don't particularly like to track your car/motorcycle. It is a desert, and I've been able to do mini-hikes around the area. It's quite scenic and beautiful. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the design, there are a total of 9 major turns in this raceway layout, which is a track in itself (Big Track). There is an additional 6 smaller tracks connected. 7 tracks: Big Track/Big Willow-2.5miles with 9 turns and a 1/2 mile straight away. The straight away has a pit lane parallel to it that drivers can pull over in. Streets of Willow: 1.8 mile with multiple configurations. It has an attached skid pad and a garage. I'd say this is the OG track and one of the most favored of drifters. Just Drift hosts their ASB event here every year, and it does seem to attract many people including current big names in the media, previous Formula D drivers, and some of the first people to start drifting in America. Horse Thief Mile: 1 mile canyon-like road course that is notorious for its slopes. It really is a thief in stealing the favor of many. Of course, it comes with a risk. This place hosts many memories for drivers when it comes to crashes, but at the same time, it's a good trainer for skill building and control. Plus, if you're into visiting canyons and mountains (carbon, turnbull, gmr, mulholland, etc), I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try. ;] Willow Springs Kart: 0.6 miles with 9 turns. The minimum track width is 30 feet and is very popular, especially among serious karters. Willow Springs Speedway: 1/4 mile paved oval Balcony: Definitely a TOP pick, especially for teaching. I've seen crashes here, but honestly, the way the layout is, it's a really safe track to try. It's quite spacious and with some cones, you can set up a large array of layouts. In my personal experience, I definitely love this track for myself, and it is also very popular for private events. Walt James Stadium: It's a 3/8 mile dirt oval. +1 Star: Lots of historical value in racing +1 Star: Challenging routes that allow so much view +1 Star: Varieties tracks for the beginners and those looking for a challenge +1 Star: This track is available for motorcycles, cars, and karts! +1 Star: Amazing view and so hike capable! :D Tip #1: You can host private events here! I'm talking birthday drift bashes + food trucks! *heart* so good. This place has a good staff, and they're generally willing to accommodate if possible. It's a cool breezy day in Rosamond, a perfect 78 degrees weather in the glaring desert sun. What a beautiful day for a roundabout at the race track. There's only a few feet between you, the pavement, and around 12,000 rocks surrounding you for miles on end in the desert. Like predators, the rocks at Willow Springs lay patiently in the dirt waiting at a chance for you to make a wrong move-- to take a bite out of you and your car at 120mph. Looking behind, you see an angry looking Audi TT RS in your rear view mirror driven by the actor who played the farmer in Babe. He wants to pass you in the back straightaway because you were only going 60mph on turn five-- too slow for his gentlemen-like standards. That's when you have your "this **** just got real" moment. Things tend to happen in slow mo' when every rock, ditch, and 70 year old actor is seemingly out there to get you. But wait! You're in a 545hp GT-R and the straightaway is coming up. Vroom vroom m********! There's some serious weekend warrior stuff happening at Willow Springs. I love it! read more

Hot Hot Hot! Willow Springs International Raceway can get pretty hot in the summer. It was the beginning of June when I rode here at temperatures reached 113 degrees! Whoa nelly! But it is in the dessert so what can ya expect? Bring your shade and plenty of water. Nothing is around, my GPS even had trouble finding it, so be sure to bring what you need. A Vons, gas station, and a few restaurants are located in a strip mall about 10-15 mins. drive away. They have a few tracks here but I rode only Streets of Willow. I caught a glimpse of Big Willow and Horse Thief, which both look incredibly fun. Streets of Willow was a blast though -- a technical track so if you are working on turns (entry/exit, angles, speed, etc.), this would be the perfect for that. That track has a small bowl and a short straight so again, it's great for working on turns. There is a really sharp chicane before coming back onto the straight. I've heard that during some races, they will bypass this chicane by coming out onto the skid pad and entering the straight that way. However, I would not have had it any other way, the tight chicane, added to the technicality and made me a better rider. I have a love/hate relationship for that chicane! Overall I enjoyed riding Streets of Willow. Facilities are clean, so you won't have to feel bad about drinking so much water. Overall decor of the tracks is definitely vintage, but serves it's purpose. The tracks are well-maintained and perfect for riding! I will definitely return, but hope to do so on a cooler day. read more

There are 3 tracks that are within a reasonable distance from Los Angeles - Willow Springs, Buttonwillow and Autoclub Speedway (I guess Chuckwalla isn't THAT far either). Out of all these tracks, Willow springs is by far the worst in terms of facilities and track conditions. If you are at the Streets of Willows side there is basically just a small shack and if you are at the Big Willow side there is a larger cafe which is decent. The tracks themselves have good runoffs so you won't really hit a wall or anything; however, the dirt and gravel surrounding the track is horrendous compared to the other aforementioned tracks. If you go off the track relatively hard you have a decent chance of damaging something in your suspension or underbody. read more

I have to admit, initially I was sketched out about this track simply because I am mainly a street rider and this track enables you to maintain speeds that are so far in excess of what you experience on the street that it is plain scary. I mean honestly how much braking does it take to go from 140 down to 120? Can you rally enter turn 8 with sixth gear pinned? I definitely cannot, but it sure is fun trying! I let a star slip because this place is starting to get a bad safety record. The runoff in turn 8 is absolutely terrible so if you have a high speed problem out there those barriers come up on you rather quickly. read more

I did Streets of Willow motorcycle trackday through TrackExperience. My first time to this track and I had heard the surface wasn't great. It's true, definitely in need of a full repave, maybe set up your suspension for street. Anyway it's a tight technical track that pushes you to get each apex, braking point, etc right. There is little curbing and many apexs are just a 6" drop to dirt, rocks, and other bits you don't want to slide into. Still three bikes went down in the first session. The parking lot is a bit disorganized, probably due to poor marking, but people find a place to park an set up. Afternoon got pretty windy and one part of the track had sand blown onto it, and blown off the next lap. Gas station near the freeway is your last major stop for services. read more

A co-worker had been nagging me to come run my car with his buddies on the "Big Track". "But, but, but... this is my baby, my first NEW car and it's only about a year old! I didn't want to be drilling holes in it to mount fire extinguishers, racing seatbelts or roll cages, come on, man!" So then one week he starts telling me about an event the club is having on the "Streets of Willow", which only required normal seat belts and a helmet. It took him all week to talk me into going, but I did and the rest, as they say, is history! I have since driven both the "Streets" and the "Big Track" a number of times with the Porsche Owners Club and both tracks are A LOT of fun! My car likes the Big Track better, with its supercharged V8 out front. Turn 8.... Ah yes, everyone talks about turn 8. A 900 foot radius turn you can carry A LOT of speed into... IF your balls are big enough, that is! My first time through I was a passenger in my buddies Toyota Celica All Track Turbo. He went into it about 110 and I'll tell you, that made my butt pucker so much that I did NOT need a seat belt! I eventually took the plunge, buying a Nomex drivers suit and installing 5 point harnesses in my car. I finally made it onto the Big Track. After becoming more comfortable with the track, then installing soft compound tires and Corvette brakes at all four corners, I managed to get around the track (1 lap = 2.5 miles) in 1 minute 36.48 seconds. Not bad for an early 90's Mustang with STOCK suspension! Bored with my story yet? OK, driving on either of the tracks at Willow is AWESOME! It's SO much fun and there is nothing else like it! If you make a mistake you just "drive off into the desert" (There is lots of run off area), but of course the idea is to stay ON the track! From a spectators perspective, it's cool I guess. Some of the facilities are not the greatest and it can be VERY hot out there, but it's still a very fun time! W.S.I.R. It's not called the "Fastest track in the West" for nothing!! read more

After two days of burning up The Streets, my rubber is melted, my legs feel like someone injected acid in them and I'm too tired to even consider watching Wednesday's recording of Lost. You haven't lived until you've thrown your bike around the chicane after turn 10. Me and my little CBR were daydreaming we looked like Nikki on the corkscrew at Laguna Seca. Ah! To dream. Anyhooo! The track is run well, it's well maintained (except turn 10 -- come on guys....smooth it out) and most importantly, it's challenging. Impressed. Every where I went, folks were cordial and polite. The cafeteria opens at 8 am with a courteous smile and good coffee. At lunch, the Turkey burger satisfies. At $9.50, it comes with a thick turkey patty that tasted good and well cooked, yet juicy and flavorful. The bun was of good quality as well. The fries were golden brown and plentiful. The cafeteria had 'new' chairs and tables vintage 1950's. Kudo's to you guys. Plenty of racing pictures on the walls. Bathrooms: ok and powerful. Willow Springs International Raceway - Track day - Race Tracks Near Me - Rosamond, California

We rented out the 'Horse Thief Mile' Track for a day. Very technical course. Respect the turns! As a private group renting it out it was much much cheaper ~130$per person. We did gather about 30 cars though. Make sure you bring a canopy, cooler, and red bull. Some foldout chairs would be nice too. Huge adrenaline rush, lets you know the limits of your driving. Definitely something to try in this lifetime. read more

Awesome race trace track. It is good for beginners but can be also a great challenge to the well experienced. Went there for track day and it was an awesome experience. The entrance fee is expensive. Why charge $10 a person instead per car like the other venues? The place is clean. The rest room are clean. As long you're event is well organized, you're good. read more

Great place with plenty of different kinds of racing. Fun for both young and old(including family).

Willow Springs, the US's first purpose built race track, built in 1953, and let me tell you it is hot, hot, hot, It seems to have been built in the middle of the desert. Take shade with you in the form of a canopy etc. bring lots of water and ice. Getting there. I'm not sure if there is a good route to get here, GPS says route 5 which sucked so badly, it took us 4 hours to get out of the bay area on a friday afternoon at 2pm. Coming back wasn't much better, we tried to come across to 101, but that sucked as well. This is probably a much better track if you live in LA or "the OC". From a racing perspective this is a fast, fun track. It's not new and could use some resurfacing in places, so take your first few laps really getting to know the lines. Once you've got to know the track it is a blast.
