Returned to this gem, this time with my grandson and his hearty teenage appetite. We sat in a casual dining room with booths and lovely decor. One of things I love about this place is the variety of dining settings. The lounge is cozy, the casual dining room perfect for families. But there's also a more formal dining room, complete with white tablecloths. We were greeted and seated immediately this time. Our waitress was amazingly friendly and attentive. The kid's Sprite was more like seltzer and she replaced it Lickety-split, with a smile, and returned a moment later to ensure he was satisfied. We ordered an appetizer of Buffalo Chicken Tenders, requesting both ranch and blue cheese. It was a large order that we didn't finish, despite ravenous appetites. Our mail dishes arrived in a timely fashion, despite the restaurant filling up quickly. I had the Fish & Chips while my grandson ordered the Pilgrim Dinner. We were both very pleased and the bottomless pit took half of his home, declining dessert. This diner is very particular about her cake slaw and rarely enjoys it. I must say that I nearly licked the container clean. Be more thing - the bill didn't break the bank. The food had been very inconsistent at this place lately. I've had the seafood risotto 3 times. The first time it was amazing, the 2nd time it was just okay. The rice was undercooked and chewy. The 3rd time it was less than okay. The rice was barely cooked. We recently ordered takeout for the whole family. The cheeseburgers were cooked beyond edible and we threw them away. The shrimp roma which I have enjoyed many times before tasted like someone dropped the salt shaker into the sauce and was completely inedible. The sauce was very runny and unappealing. I think it's safer to dine in than takeout. At least you send back an over cooked or poorly cooked meal. The service is good and the staff is very friendly. We came here for Easter, what a regrettable experience. We ordered the stuffed sole. It was served to us cold, vegetables looked & tasted like they were over cooked. Waitress was sweet to bring it back to be re heated. It came back worse than before, now reheated, but in a puddle of very cold sauce, it was completely tasteless. We were so surprised this was served to us, it was not edible. From our experience, I don't think they had a chef preparing food, just someone reheating & plating food. My father brought us here for dinner last week and I'm so glad he did. Everything exceeded expectation. Starters was chowder, mozzarella sticks, and buffalo cauliflower. Buffalo cauliflower was saucy, crispy and spicy delight - super caliente! My daughter and father split an order of the potato skins, enjoying them immensely. The skins normally come with broccoli but they opted to split three with broccoli and three with just cheese and bacon. THE BEST PART: I had the most amazing scallops here! Goodness, if you have any sort of self-worth, order the scallops! YUM! This dish is the perfect New Englander fare that it should be and more! Ritz cracker and butter topping. Sweet and cooked perfectly. The price point was (well, I live in Boston now so take this as you will) - Holy Mackerel! For being inland, the seafood is amazing! Regrets: No room for dessert. We ended up at this restaurant as it was near Southwick's Zoo. Upon entering, we were kind of confused, there was an ice cream shop to the right (nobody behind it), a front desk in front with 2 rooms behind it with lots of empty tables (also no employees present), and to the left a small dining room with a ar (bartender and customers present). However, we waited in the lobby area as there was a sign that said "Please Wait to be Seated." It was probably about 5 minutes before someone came out from one of the two rooms to seat us and brought us back into those rooms. It was really nice in there actually, a totally different environment then the lobby portion. Our waitress was really sweet, and fast as was the food. And the food was all delicious, and HUGE portions, especially for the price! This restaurant exceeded all my expectations: service, food, cleanliness and atmosphere. The food was so tasty, satisfying and large portions. Their menu has quite a large variety of meals to choose. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We were a party of twelve and our server did a magnificent job handling all of us. I will definitely recommend this restaurant. I can only speak for my own experience, and it was excellent. Now these are relative stars - for sure it's not a 3 star Michelin restaurant -- but it knows what it is (family, home cooking), and does it well. Our service was excellent, and the prices very reasonable. Not from the area, we went with two house "favorites" - the stuffed peppers and the steaktips. My wife enjoyed the former (although it was a lot for her to eat). I had the latter and it was excellent, and well worth the trip. The roasted carrots and potatoes that came with it were very flavorful. I had the organic beer, and it came quickly had a very clean, new keg taste to it. We finished with ice cream. I couldn't have a sundae, but my youngest (8) had a scoop with hot fudge and said it was excellent. We were in the area for a child's athletic event, and if we're in the area we'll definitely return here. read more

Stopped in on a Friday night with my parents. The menu screamed frozen food being heated up and served at a mediocre price. The fish sandwiches were served cold, and the pasta dish sat in a puddle of flavorless oil. Upon notifying the management of the cold fish sandwich, the server explained to us that the owner advised that the food be microwaved to be brought up to a desirable temperature. The food was then returned for a second time, and we notified the server that we were done eating. The management was reluctant enough to deduct a whopping 50% off each meal returned, even though 3 bites were taken out of the entire meal. After some discussion with our server, the remaining cost of the cold fish sandwich was deducted from our bill. Our server was great. However, I feel as though better management can be found on a childrens playground. But hey, at least they have cold beer. read more

EVERYTHING was soggy, likely because it sat in the Styrofoam containers for about 10 minutes right in front of me while various people (the hostess, some waitresses) went to get "someone" to ring me out. I went to this sub-par restaurant with my wife and son for lunch. My wife had been here for breakfast before so we decided to try out lunch. IT WAS HORRIBLE! We ordered buffalo chicken tenders, which the menu claimed to be "fresh." From the first bite, you can tell that it was frozen and microwaved to thaw. I then proceeded to look at the meat - it was not even real chicken! It was spongy, cheap filler "meat" that you get from places like Burger King and McDonald's $1 menu! How do they have the nerve to describe it as "fresh" on the menu? We ordered 2 other dishes that was also pretty bad. The pilgrim sandwich with turkey and all the thanksgiving fixings is pretty good! The set up of the inside if kind of strange to me super big with different rooms. The décor isn't cohesive and kind of feels like you're in an Inn and not a restaurant. My in-laws took my wife and I out for our birthdays which are 12 day aparts. We drove about 25 miles on a recommendation to come to Willow Brook. Calamari appetizer was a little bland but the marinara sauce made up for it. My father-in-law had steak tips which were awesome. My fish and chips were just average at best. My wife ordered fried scallops which came out nearly raw. Our server was very good and got another order made quickly...too quickly. The second batch were even less cooked. Again, our server apologized over and over but at this point my wife was done and wanted nothing else. We ordered dessert and all 5 were very good, although the pumpkin pie with pumpkin ice cream stole the show. While we weren't charged for the scallop dinner, it's unlikely we'll be back any time soon. read more

My mom and I stopped in here for ice cream one night. They have a counter inside where you can just order ice cream. Unfortunately, it was a miserable experience. My mom ordered a cone of something chocolate based. It was fine, typical ice cream, nothing to write home about. I ordered a root beer float, which was a disaster. I don't know if it's how it was made or what, but when she handed it to me and I took the lid of to eat it with a spoon, it exploded everywhere. And I mean EVERYWHERE. It soaked my entire body. My family and I went to Willowbrook Restaurant in Mendon, MA this evening for dinner. Some members of our party had eaten there once before for breakfast, but for the majority of our party it was the first time going there. It will also be our last visit. The problems started right after we had been seated. First off, the service was extremely slow. It was a while before our waitress first arrived at our table. She never gave us her name. The name on receipt was Jessica. We started off by ordering our drinks, two diet cokes (one with limes), one iced tea with lemon and one ice water with lots of ice. When the drinks arrived, none of the drinks had much ice. The ice water had very little ice at all. We asked the waitress for a cup full of ice, which she brought and then she quickly left before we could order appetizers. There was a small drink spill because one of our party tried pouring his water into the cup with ice and one napkin was used to wipe it up. We asked the waitress for a replacement napkin. She never brought one. After several minutes of waiting, we ordered the onion rings and the potato skins (on the specials list) as appetizers. It took a very long time for them to come out. When the appetizers finally came out, they were lukewarm at best. The waitress did not bring out any plates for the appetizers. We asked her for plates and she said she would get them. We then proceeded to order our main courses. We ordered a steak and cheese sandwich, a French dip (without cheese) and a meatball sandwich. "Regular fries" were ordered as the side for each entrée. We waited and we waited and we waited. The waitress still hadn't brought us our plates for the appetizers. We started to eat them with our fingers just because we didn't want them to get any colder than they already were. When the main course finally arrived, I thanked the waitress for the plates that we didn't receive. She simply said, "yup". She had no clue about what I was talking about. The main courses were disappointing. First of all, the french fries were seasoned (neither the menu nor the waitress indicates this prior to ordering). None of the entrées were hot. The meatballs in the meatball sandwich were terrible. They tasted worse than the frozen ones you buy in the supermarket. Finally, there was so little marinara sauce on the meatball sandwich, it was practically nonexistent. We at our meals and paid (leaving six cents for a tip). We left without saying one more word to our waitress. We wanted to speak to a manager before we left, but we didn't want to embarrass the waitress. We decided that on our way out we would ask to speak to a manager. There is an ice cream stand at the front and we talked to the lady that was working at the ice cream stand. She never identified herself as a manager, but said that she could "help us". This lady, whoever she was, said the standard consolations but it was clearly obvious that she was not sincere and couldn't be bothered to talk to us or find us someone who would. All in all, we give Willowbrook an F for service and a D for the food. We will never go back, and will advise all of friends to not go there either. read more

I really loved this restaurant. The food was REALLY good (I usually don't like going out to eat..) and the waitress was SUPER nice (again, hard to come by!). The only thing that wasn't good were the lava cakes-- they were frozen and there was no chocolate flow at all. Tasteless. We had 3 orders of them. We were very pleased with our dinner. I read the Yelp review and 2 star rating after sitting down, and I had some doubts to be honest. My wife had the Pilgrim turkey dinner and I had the steak tips and a cup of chowder as an appetizer. We were one of the last customers for the night having been out shopping, but regardless everything was quite good. The chowder was good - nice base and tender clams, and the steak tips were some of the most tender tips I have had in a couple years. Perfectly cooked medium rare and really tender. Her turkey dinner was good and also tender (she is picky about dry poultry meat and overcooked turkey) but it was good. Add t that both of our dinner's sides were very nice. Loved carrots and mashed was outstanding. It is not a fancy place, but for what it was, the price was extremely reasonable and service was very pleasant. The only time I will return will be this week to speak to management. Appalled by the attitude of an employee today, but didn't want to make an already uncomfortable situation more uncomfortable and embarrass my parents more in the moment. Went in for lunch today with my son and my parents, food was okay, our server was nice. There were only two other tables seated besides ourselves in the dining room. Our meal was delivered, server left, my mother realized she forgot to ask for mayonnaise. We didn't see our server for quite a while, but there was a very very skinny bald man cleaning off the only dirty table in the room. My elderly father said "Excuse me, could we please get a little container of mayonnaise?" The man snapped at my dad "You have to ask your server!" and continued to clean the table. The restaurant was dead. There was no one waiting for that table. My dad was embarrassed and totally taken aback to be spoken to that way, when he was a paying customer and has asked the only employee around so politely. Five minutes went by, no servers in sight, and the guy never made any attempt to either get the mayonnaise OR go grab our server. I worked in the service industry for years in my twenties - if I ever snapped at a customer or just ignored their request, and my manager caught wind, I would've been sent home for the night on the spot. After five minutes of seeing that he wasn't going to do anything to help, my 75 year old dad got up and went to find someone to again politely ask for a little mayonnaise. I was livid. He clearly wasn't helping just because he was a jerk, not because he was busy because the restaurant was 95% empty. Your priorities are really messed up when you'd rather clean off a table and yell at an old man, than just be polite back and do your job. Our server finally came over with the mayonnaise and said "Sorry I wasn't around, I was checking football scores." Besides that, she was pleasant and welcoming. I didn't want to imasculate my father any further by bringing it up then, but how dare this boy talk to my dad that way, it was beyond rude. The food is DEFINITELY not worth paying for a meal at a place where you're spoken to that way and then blatantly ignored. Their local reputation is that their main clientele is the elderly - and aren't those the people we should treat with the most respect and kindness? I wonder how often the jerk treats sweet old people like that and gets away with it. I eat out at least five times a month - mistakes with food, with reservations, etc tend to happen often wherever you go, no big deal - being an awful human being to your guests IS a big deal. read more

Oh boy...either we are just spoiled on the North Shore with good eats or this restaurant is not representative of the area and this restaurant was just not all that good. Started with a rather unwelcoming host seating us in an oddly, past it's time decor. Our server was actually quite nice though. When our app of buffalo fingers arrived we all just kind of looked at each other as if...you first. The order contained 4 and 3 were left untouched. Most definitely Tyson or other frozen chicken tossed in hot sauce. Mostly frozen food reheated as others have stated. We left so much food. This place looks like it's been around a while so I suppose there are people that must enjoy it but if find yourself in the area looking for good eats, this is not the place, keep looking. 2nd star was earned by our server. read more

Me and my girlfriend have been to this restaurant on several occasions and were satisfied. The wait staff is very attentive and pleasant. Even though I have had one meal here that did not satisfy me it wasn't the fault of the restaurant, it was just my personal taste. With that being said the staff was very accommodating and gave me another meal which I had to go. My girlfriend and I will be back for more of their delicious food.
