After finally finding someone, we still waited quite a while before being seated. We were initially put in a booth for five, and when the rest of our party arrived and asked to move to a table, it became a much bigger ordeal than it should have been...even though the restaurant was mostly empty with larger tables already set. We were even asked to carry our own waters and unused silverware to the new table. The service felt rushed and dismissive throughout the meal. Simple menu questions seemed to annoy our server, and she frequently interrupted our conversations with unsolicited comments. At one point I was looking at the weekly specials menu and she took it out of my hands to flip it over because I was looking at the wrong side. It came across as surprisingly rude. She also spilled water on our table and the floor, then laughed when I reached for a napkin to clean it up myself. The food was okay. My burger tasted good, but it wasn't cooked to the temperature I requested and came with tomato after I had asked for none. I also found the prices hard to justify, especially since the lunch menu had several items that weren't available to order at dinner. Overall, there were some good flavors, but between the service and the price, the experience didn't live up to expectations.

And honestly, because we were surrounded by good company and conversation, I still wound up having an enjoyable night overall. The restaurant itself was busy and lively, with that familiar neighborhood gathering-place atmosphere that many people clearly enjoy. As for the food, however, it unfortunately didn't leave much of an impression on me. The steak I ordered arrived overcooked and drier than I would have liked, the salad lacked that crisp fresh quality I was hoping for, and the clam chowder seemed surprisingly sparse on actual clams. Nothing was outright terrible, but most of the meal landed squarely in the mediocre category for me. The service was okay overall, though nothing especially memorable stood out in either direction. Truthfully, I think the biggest appeal of this place may simply be the atmosphere and sense of community it creates for regulars. Watching our friends interact with the staff and each other, it was obvious this is one of those local gathering spots people return to frequently because it feels comfortable and familiar. For me personally, though, I can't really say the food itself gave me much reason to return independently. Suffice it to say after almost ten years of not using the darn app, I did all that to tell people how amazing this place is. Food is "traditional American" but the flavor and technique and flavor!! **chefs kiss** absolutely peak! Also, don't be mistaken, it's behind the bad chicken drive thru and looks like a hole in the wall next to the "Big Lost Meadery" but it's all in one. GO HERE TODAY!! This was the sweetest and most caring thing a restaurant has done for us even when they did not need to. They really went out of their way to give us a special night. Instead, I can tell you of the harmony in flavors and textures found in my seared foie gras with black walnut marmalade and fig sorbet. or the surprise of how the slight formaldehyde note that lingered a bit past midway taste in the 2017 Hourglass Blueline Merlot disappeared and the wine gained complexity and harmony paired with the Roquefort toast.
