You'll probably hear me say this repeatedly throughout many of my Midwest reviews, but my husband and I really are not naturally "bar and grill" type people. In all the many years we lived in Phoenix, despite dining at hundreds of restaurants across the Valley, I can honestly remember us regularly visiting maybe one true bar-and-grill style establishment. Then we moved to Sioux Falls. And suddenly we found ourselves surrounded by them. =) So, we are trying our best to adapt and experience the local dining culture the way the locals enjoy it. We came to Tinner's Public House because a large group of our friends absolutely loves the place and wanted us to join them there one evening. And honestly, because we were surrounded by good company and conversation, I still wound up having an enjoyable night overall. The restaurant itself was busy and lively, with that familiar neighborhood gathering-place atmosphere that many people clearly enjoy. As for the food, however, it unfortunately didn't leave much of an impression on me. The steak I ordered arrived overcooked and drier than I would have liked, the salad lacked that crisp fresh quality I was hoping for, and the clam chowder seemed surprisingly sparse on actual clams. Nothing was outright terrible, but most of the meal landed squarely in the mediocre category for me. The service was okay overall, though nothing especially memorable stood out in either direction. Truthfully, I think the biggest appeal of this place may simply be the atmosphere and sense of community it creates for regulars. Watching our friends interact with the staff and each other, it was obvious this is one of those local gathering spots people return to frequently because it feels comfortable and familiar. For me personally, though, I can't really say the food itself gave me much reason to return independently. Still, I had a genuinely pleasant evening because of the people we were with, and sometimes that matters more than the meal anyway. read more

Stopped in to watch the NBA playoffs. Lots of big tvs with good sight lines. We had a yummy cocktail and a beer and some delicious chislic. There's a nice patio too if you'd prefer to sit outside. read more

Ate here tonight with my wife and daughter. We've had good meals here previously when it was a Greek themed restaurant, but tonight was a complete bust. The service was nonexistent. The beer I ordered never arrived, and even our request for water refills was ignored or forgotten. The server never checked back on the food, or to see if we needed anything else. She blamed it on the party room she was serving, so I guess we didn't matter. On top of everything else the food was COLD. I guess she was too busy with the party room to bring our food out. A very sad experience. Can't imagine we'll return. read more

Sat outdoor near the waterfall, perfect setting for a night dinner. Ordered Buffalo brussel sprouts as an appetizer. Although the sprouts where good would of been perfect if they were not sitting out as they were luke warm at best. When I checked in, got an alert for a free shot. Even though it was expired they still offered it up. Good points there. When we sat there was no beer, condiments tray. As nice as she was was not her game on knowing all the beers and didn't offer the beer until we asked for it. I ordered the ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. Steak was fine garden potatoes were fine the broccoli it was the perfect color of green for being Blanche but Brock and it was cool. This is our neighborhood go to for a quick meal or Sunday brunch. It's great when there is seating outside and music. Inside can be a little loud but most places are. The Chislic is great. They have seasonal menus so be sure to check those out. It's always busy so get there before 5:30. read more

We visited last week in an effort to try something new, as my wife told me we were going to do. To top it off, she didn't want bar food and Tinners was it! Here's the deal, the service was off the cuff outstanding! One beer 7.50 which is way overpriced for a Shells Oktoberfest, really, come on! I ordered the chislic basket and my wife ordered some hot ham and cheese. I'm like cool, within 5 minutes here comes our food. How can chislic and fries only take 5 minutes? anyhow I was hungry and ready. First bite if chislic is chewy and luke warm, fries are cold. I'm like F'ing A serious! looks to me like I just got something that's been siting under the hood for 30 minutes. Long story short, do I send food back. Absolutely not but we,ll NEVER go to Tinners again. And that's affirmative! Had decent service the first time. Today was terrible. Couldn't keep the flies off of our food. Seriously so many flies inside dining it was gross. Steak was ordered medium came completely bloody and cold. I've always enjoyed the food along with the neighborhood vibes. I've been to TInner's several times. I would have given them a 4 star BUT they were one of the first bars/restaurants in Sioux Falls to be completely non smoking for a long time BEFORE the law was changed several years ago and it was so refreshing to come here in those days and not smell like an ashtray. Since then the law was changed and they are now just another bar/restaurant Service has always been quick even when in a group of 16. The Chislic tastes great! If you're not from South Dakota and never had Chislic I suggest try it! You won't be disappointed if you like steak! If anything a little too much salt/tenderizer but still it tasted yummy! On my last visit we had to wait on a Friday night to be seated and it was only a 2-3 minutes wait even though they said 10-15minutes. I'll be back for sure. read more

Thought we would take advantage of a warm Saturday night in October and have a meal on their great patio. Ordered two meals and an appetizer. Everything came at once, the appetizer, my steak, and my wives' shrimp bowl. The waiter said oops and took my wives meal away. Thought maybe he brought wrong item, but he and the bowl never returned. Finally brought us the check, we asked what happened to the bowl, he didn't seem to know. Thought maybe someone in kitchen ate it. WTF! But he did tell us we wouldn't have to pay for it! Lovely atmosphere with a friendly waitress and TV's throughout the restaurant. I ordered the Walleye basket with tater tots instead of fries. The tater tots were delicious, but the batter on the walleye was a little tough to chew and could've been crispier. Their cheese curds as an appetizer; were phenomenal! I enjoyed my time there, although two stars were taken off because no social distancing took place within the restaurant, and they aren't enforcing masks on their patrons. The food also seems a little overpriced for the quality but not outrageously. I may go back if I'm in that area of Sioux Falls again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more
