The owner was incredibly friendly and genuinely knowledgably about the book world. She took time to educate me and other fellow guests about the history of the store, which you can learn more from the newspaper clippings in the back of the store. She also talked to me about the Little Free Libraries, how they work, how to find all the registered ones online, and even encouraged me by saying I could host one myself. That conversation along made the visit feel special as you can see how passionate she is. The store has a wide selection of books, thoughtfully organized, with something for every kind of reader. My absolute favorite part was the cozy corner of vintage books - such a charming collection, each one priced fairly and appropriately for its condition and uniqueness. Cannot say enough good things about Wilson's Book World, in fact, I'm shocked I had never been before. We scooped up a literal box full of books for such a reasonable price. They have the store broken down into sections so it is very easy to find what you're looking for and staff is very helpful, instead of just pointing the way to the horror section I got an escort to it and verbal clarification of which 3 shelves to look on. Thank you kind sir. They even have comic books, a couple board games, some adult coloring books. I saw audio tapes, a huge diverse cookbook collection, multiple foreign language resources, a good travel section and so much more. There is a restroom for the public to use as well. Super cute book store in St Pete - would recommend to anyone in the area searching for a quick browse of used books. The employee was very knowledgeable of book locations when I asked for a specific genre. A little pricey for used books BUT I will say the books were in great condition (most I picked up were like-new) compared to most used book stores out there. They also have comics there. The Wilson's book store is an absolute delight. They have a large Games/Comics section, a lovely New Age/Metaphisical selection and a great mystery selection, so I was a happy camper. A St. Pete classic. The building itself is an interesting example of Floridiana architecture and is adorned on its side with a lovely mural. Inside there is a good selection of used books in sections among various rooms including a comic book room, reading space with couches and comfortable seating, and a religious book room. They have a smallish section of Florida titles. They buy books as well as sell them. The owner was super friendly and helpful. This place rocks and is worth exploring and supporting. There are also a couple of kitschy antique stores next door and Tripp's Diner across the street. read more

If you are a reader, this is the place for you. No more fancy pants, cost too much "big box" bookstores. Wilson's is where it's at. I'm not kidding. You must go here for books from now on. As you enter, the store envelopes in the scent of old, loved books. Books that have been read a time or two and you know they are good for just that reason. You know that smell. It's like a library but without the scent of sweaty children, so it's better. Wilson's has so many books that they have different "theme" rooms to house them all. Wilson's is one of the better used book stores in the Tampa Bay Area, and the stock, which includes a few unusual books in addition to the usual selections of history, fiction, true crime, mystery, pulp, etc. Their science fiction and fantasy section is good, and so is their comic book section, which seems quite thorough and includes new issues as well as boxes of back issues. They've recently downsized at a new location, and ownership has passed to the next generation, which is a great tradition. Currently, the antiquarian and collectible books seem to be only offered online, so you can't peruse those selections in person, as before. It's definitely worth a stop for any bookworm. read more

Used book shops can be a crapshoot sometimes - some have good stuff but high prices...some have low prices but a terrible selection. Neither is the case here! Wilson's has a very good selection and the prices are very reasonable. And if that was not enough, the owner is incredibly nice - helpful, pleasant to chat with, and just all-around makes shopping there a great experience. The stacks are neatly organized and the store itself is orderly (another rarity in the world of used books) I've picked up some great reads here - and I plan to pick up some more very soon! Wilson's Book World has been my favorite used bookstore in St. Petersburg for decades. The service is highly efficient and Michelle, the main bookseller and owner, is both knowledgeable and friendly. Most used paperbacks are half off the retail price. There is also a good selection of collectable books. I would much rather shop here than order from an online retail giant. read more

I love the smell of books and as soon as you walk in you are greeted by that wonderful smell. The people that work here (the owners?!) are great! Always helpful and pleasant the two times I've been in so far. The man here is a hoot. I appreciate his sense of humor. So many books. On any subject imaginable. Strange and unusual titles as well as newer stuff. Lots of old books, classics, new titles, a children's room, religions, pets, cookbooks..I seriously could probably spend a whole day in here just browsing the shelves! There's even a comic book/manga section in the back of the store! My son got some manga that he was ecstatic about finding. 10/10 will be back! Books Books and more Books! Of all the used stores I've been to in St. Pete's, this is by far my favorite and I have already been back 2 times. 1. I was impressed when I was looking for a certain book, I called in and then had it and pulled it off the shelf for me. 2. If you buy books from them, you can return it when you're done reading it and trade getting half credit back towards the purchase of another. 3. They have every type of book you can imagine! They even have a room full of well organized comics! Who knew comics were still produced?! 4. They also have chairs dispersed around so you can sit and browse as well as just walk and peek through selections. 5. It is well organized by genre and alphabetically set up too. Easy to find what you want! 6. They are friendly and will have a conversation about you. 7. Last but not least, they will buy books from you for store credit towards purchases too. Anything they won't buy, you can choose to donate for them to be sent to local jails for reading materials there. Great option! Love this place and will return often! read more

The selection is beyond incredible AND well-organized (a rare combo)...the interior is clean and well lit, with a cozy feel. The pricing is extremely fair as well. Certain other local "well known" stores (like Haslam's) charge ultra-premium prices on used hardbacks which are double or more what you will find at Wilson's - with a fraction of the selection. never again. Oddly, when searching "used book stores" on Yelp, this location did not come up. I found it on Google instead. This place is the BEST used book store in the bay area. I kind of almost don't want to review it because y'all will steal all the good books I have my eyes on. They have everything from poetry to comic books to old westerns, religious studies to gender studies to old Choose Your Own Adventure books in the kid's section. A lot of great esoteric finds, all reasonably priced. You'll definitely find a book you didn't even know you wanted. The staff is always friendly and quirky--I've never not had a great conversation while checking out books. Props, Wilson's! This place is awesome, especially for science fiction, fantasy, comic or RPG fans. The scifi selection was decent but I didn't find anything I didn't already have. I appreciated that the fantasy section was standalone (lots of places mix it into scifi) and very good. I found great editions of E.R. Eddison's Zimiavian trilogy and picked up a pulpy Forgotten Realms book for fun. I also found the first 4 volumes of Akira for $40 which is a great deal compared to used on amazon. There's an awesome selection of RPG books and I got Shadowrun 3.0 and the GURPs Cyberpunk book. For my partner who is interested in mythology and dragons specifically I found a great near-mint hardcover book on dragon mythology. The owner of the shop is incredibly pleasant, helpful, and just a joy to be around. The store is well kept and aesthetically pleasing. Today was my first visit to Wilsons. It's a nice used bookstore. Very well organized and laid out. The selection was nice, although they didn't have a lot of classics which I always look for. I like the idea of separate rooms for different genres. I was on a limited budget so I didn't look too much as I was afraid I would find too much that I want. I have 15 yr. old a Niece who lives in St. Thomas in the U.S.V.I. Living on an Island makes books and other things are hard for the kids to come by, her school, Antilles Academy, gives her a very long summer reading list. It's become an annual ritual to try and find nice clean used book to fill that list and save a few bucks as well. After stopping at another "Used Book Store" where the service and attitudes were as bad as they can get , I went to Google and found Wilson's Book Store. I was waited upon by a wonderful woman named Michelle who knew exactly where to find the books I was looking for. The visit was pleasant, expedient, and I left knowing it will be the first and hopefully only place I'll ever need to go to help the kids with their summer reading requirements. Wilson's is the best! The owner and his daughter provide excellent personalized customer service and they offer a huge selection of hardbacks, paperbacks and comics. This big old house has many rooms full to the rafters and I go about once a month or so and always find new things. There's a large cookbook selection, a section just for Holiday books, a small room for kids, a larger room for westerns, romances, nonfiction galore and comics by the boxes. There's a large room in the back full of metaphysical and religious books and the bathroom is an ode to Elvis. Sadly, the lovebirds that chittered near the poetry books kicked off, but the owners do accept credit cards. The Erotica section is at the top of the shelf right near the front door which works if you are over 6 ft tall. I haven't had the nerve to peruse it b/c I'd much rather do so privately and without having to drag a step stool over, but that deterrent only makes me seem less of a perv. The place is really wonderful, decorated with old signs and jokes and funny tchotchkes, the owners know their stuff, there's always new books coming in and the prices are affordable. Besides it's fun to visit with them, there's always interesting conversations going on. Excellent parking, too. The window mural is really cool too. Stop on by and support this local gem! read more

Even though I was not looking for them I did notice a small selection of antique and first edition books for sale. The only reason I did not give this store a five star rating was due to the fact that there is a very large selection of paper backs and not enough hard cover books, which I prefer.
