This is a beautiful and impressive locally owned book shop. They have books old and new from every genre you could be interested in. They also have a section for local Floridian authors, along with guides to the state of Florida and different cities, which is super relevant for visitors to the shop. Along with books, they have other knick-knacks, some book-themed and some just for fun. There are socks, shirts, book-themed book bags, puzzles and more. I would say the prices aren't the best but they aren't quite as bad as going to a Barnes & Noble or Books-a-million type book shop. And i'd much rather support a small business paying a price like that than the big chains. They do also have a used book section that has cheaper books so that can be another nice option. While I have supported this book store in the past, with purchases of collector's books, I do not recommend Back in the Day Books. They expect "Shop Local", but they themselves do not support local authors. What's the point of local - I suggest your local library or logging in to your "local" Amazon account. read more

I do not know about purchasing from this bookstore, but don't bother trying to sell them anything. So far three times I've sent them emails with photos of new author hardcover books, and some out of date old books Besides, taking forever to get a response, they do not purchase anything So don't bother contacting them if you have books to sell In response to the owner. I said specifically, I did not know anything about purchasing from him or his bookstore What I did say is, if you're trying to sell, this is not the place to go Did not mean to be offensive, but it seems that they do not purchase anything whatsoever from anyone. In Dunedin we ventured to @backinthedaybooks and although they do not sell beverages, next door is @casatinas an authentic Mexican restaurant!! I mean how perfect is this?! The bookstore itself was so fun and had a mix of new and used books along with other fun merchandise. Walking in you see the book ladder which I became obsessed with and wanted to have an impromptu Belle moment (the willpower it took to not do it was intense friends). This shop used to be up near me in Tarpon, but they've since relocated to Dunedin. It's a lovely little used bookstore that has an amazing selection. There are some new books too, along with autographed first editions and other things of interest. it's a great stop in you're eating in a place near by, or just walking the town. read more

I love visiting small, local bookstores and Back In The Day was such a hidden gem in the Clearwater area. They had a nice selection of books, puzzles, adult coloring books, tee shirts, and more. I was surprised at the selections because they had quite a few new releases that I've had my eye on, but didn't want to buy online. Local bookstores don't get the volume discount that chain stores and A**z*n gets, so I knew the prices would be full retail value but that's fine since I'd prefer to support local businesses when possible. I bought two books that I have on my TBR but I could've bought several more. Also, I appreciate that masks are required for staff and customers - I'd much rather shop at places that protect everyone. :) This is such a lovely shop and I would absolutely return if in the area again. read more

We were walking around Dunedin at night exploring when we came across Back in the Day Books. First of all, I love that they were open late at night. Most local book stores have very early and short hours. The books in the window immediately grabbed my attention. There was a book that I have had on my Amazon wishlist for awhile now propped up on display (by the way, it was $4 cheaper than Amazon. I did buy it). If you are looking for an extremely specific book, you may not find it here. The selection is not huge. However, it is a very nice collection to look at. There were many interesting books that I have never seen before. I could spend a lot of money in this store. They also had many classic favorites such as Catcher in the Rye, 1984 and To Kill a Mockingbird. The books are organized by section and most areas are represented. I purchased a set of magnetic bookmarks. There are coloring books, historical, recipe books, sport biographies (although not the specific one I was after..but I expected that), young adult, science fiction, etc. They have a really large Florida collection too (historical, tourist guides, oddities, etc.) that was impressive. I spent way more time in this store than I probably should've and purchased several things. Now that I know it is there, I will visit every time that I am in Dunedin. The owner is helpful, personable, and above all loves talking books. Some of my most treasured volumes come from Back in the Day Books. If you are a lover of books this is the place for you. They have all sorts of books, from leather bound and Folio Society collectibles to old pulp fiction novels by Chandler, Spillane, and Goodis ( the covers are always a treat on these). Very limited selection. I had a hard time finding a book I was interested in that I hadn't already read. They really need to expand the selection of literature. An odd mix of new, used and classics. New books are cover price with no discount. I prefer to go to a larger store with more selection if I have to pay full price. They do have discount book shelf but they are layered 2 deep so it's impossible to see all them. Apparently don't take in trades. Their selection is ever growing, particularly with new books, and if there is something you are looking for that they don't have they will order it for you. We also go to big box bookstores. They have a larger selection, but their customer service is often lacking. We also like to support local businesses, even if its means paying a little more. The store has added more shelves as they continue to expand their offerings. It may not have everything you are looking for, but what store does. I've followed this bookstore between about 4 different locations in the almost 20 years I've lived here. Boe is awesome, the staff is wonderful, and the stock never disappoints. I have rare, old, autographed and new books I've purchased here. If it's not there, Boe will find it. We love Back in the Day Books. So much better to be able to look at a book and browse its pages before buying. You can't do that online. It is a fresh, spacious area to browse at books that cannot be found elsewhere. We have followed them to each location they have had over the years and are glad they are back close to home.
