A good SNF but poor nursing leadership. Nursing leaders are too busy taking things personal instead like firing staff if they call in sick.

Several days before the Corona Virus became a topic of any sort, I moved my mother to Ridge Crest…read moreat Meadow Ridge due to declining health. This was a very difficult decision as it was going to separate my mother from her husband. However, as I would soon learn, it became the very best choice I could have made. From my initial conversations with the Admissions Nurse Daneen, my mind was put at ease by her expertise, her overwhelming compassion and complete sense of caring about all aspects of the move. Soon after the move, I met Danielle, the head nurse of the wing where my mother was placed, and found the exact same wonderful and comforting set of values in her (I am able to talk with Danielle daily to get updates on my mother's condition). This was followed by the rest of the staff, who, again, continue to impress me in every way. Then the word of the Corona Virus made the news. Ridge Crest under the direction of Kim Held, the Director of Nursing, took decisive and immediate action and locked down the facility to all visitors. This was far in advance of other nursing facilities, and has played a pivotal role in keeping the facility safe. This meant my mother's husband and I would no longer be able to visit her. However, once again, the Ridge Crest team stepped up. They understood the social and emotional toll this would take on their residents and their loved ones. Through the staff's loving and compassionate ways they put the residents at ease, as well as their family and loved ones. I am able to be in regular contact with the nursing staff by phone, my mother via FaceTime (set up by the staff). I cannot imagine a better, safer, more professional and loving place to have placed my mother. Ridge Crest is simply an outstanding facility.

I am completely shocked and disappointed with their unprofessionalism. I have had strong symptoms…read moreof COVID-19 and right now I'm on day 7 of shown symptoms. When it started I had extreme fatigue, which led to heavy post-nasal drip down the throat, no runny nose, no sneezing, just thick postnasal that would make me cough a bit. On day 2 I felt a fullness in neck and throat which evolved into a full and forceful dry cough along with a fever which I took ibuprofen for. Day 3 the cough just worsened and I started to feel shortness of breath, chest tightness, and pain and getting winded going up and downstairs. Day 4 I went to Soundview. I was wheezing, short of breath, coughing, and unable to take a deep breath. Dr diagnosed me as URI even though I had symptoms of lower respiratory difficulties. Dr told me because I didn't have a fever I would not get a test for COVID-19. And told me if I didn't directly contact someone who traveled recently I likely would not have the virus. Meanwhile, the news has reported "community spread" in our area. Yes, I suppose there are limited tests but the Dr was not honest about that fact and simply told me to take cough med, pain med, and inhaler and sent me on my way. No recommendation to avoid social gatherings etc. I did so anyway, I canceled all plans and tried to keep a distance from other parents at school drop-offs and pick-ups throughout the week. I have had other concerns about this practice before this, but this clearly has me looking for a completely different practice. I'm giving two stars because the Dr was very nice and personable. The night after the appointment was the worst night of all. I was sitting on the couch, coughing fit, after coughing fit, and just had the feeling like I could not get any air. That my windpipes in my lungs were completely constricted and not opening, I was seriously needing air. I had taken inhaler but yet was at this level of breathing trouble only a couple of hours later. I went up to the shower and turned on the steam with the hope of it relieving the issue and opening up the airways, which it did for a bit. When I was ready to go to sleep laying down in the bed I still was struggling for air. Any position made me cough like crazy. Any relief I got was sitting up and leaning forward or completely standing up straight. this is no way to fall asleep. I wrestled with the symptoms for a good TWO HOURS until finally, things subsided enough to drift off. But I was woken up many times overnight with the breathing struggle. I have had bronchitis before and this seemed to be on another level. The next day, more coughing fits and a nap interrupted with them yet again. Coughing fits caused intense headaches over the day. I went to sleep day 5 with the same symptoms. Day 6 coughing fits over and over, the same breathing issues. Day 7, symptoms are easing just a little bit but I'm still experiencing shortness of breath and coughing and not being able to breathe in deep. Still winded walking up and down flights and around the house. I still feel like someone should test me properly. I am convinced I have this virus in my body. And I have no clue if I definitely have this virus and if I should avoid going to work this weekend. The two mildest of the symptoms: My voice is different, the whole throat lining is irritated from all the coughing and slightly sore, but it's not a seriously sore throat and doesn't hurt to talk or eat or move. I also only have had a slight fever since the second day and mostly no fever- but the issue is definitely in the lungs - lower area of lungs.

While at the gym today, a very infirmed man had trouble and was in pain to the point of nearly fainting. I asked if he needed help since he could barely stand even with a walker. I looked around the Ground floor for help, but there was no one. I recommended that he press his emergency pendent, which he did. No one came. After five minutes, still no one came. More time passed. Still no one. I decided to go upstairs to the main desk to say someone needed help in the gym. They said they were aware of the emergency call but could not locate him. I then went downstairs and noticed a woman had finally arrived. However, she was rude, and ignored his request for a wheelchair, and began for forcefully push him backwards on his walker. When he mentioned his frustration about not being found after pushing the pendent, she just responded, "I'm here now." I said she arrived only because of me notifying the front desk, and she again slightly angrily repeated her statement. I was appalled at her attitude, but more importantly, her ignoring his request for a wheelchair, which he clearly needed. I went upstairs to reflect what I witnessed and to complain. I was then introduced to a manager. I said that I would hate to have my 84 year old mother treated this way if she had an emergency.
