We became Soddy-Daisyians just this past Spring, but we discovered Wimpies, well over a year ago when we started our journey to move out this way. I am a breakfast guy and Wimpies is exactly what you'd expect from a local "greasy spoon" establishment: good food, good service from super friendly (sometimes playfully snarky) waitstaff, comfortable and clean dining area. It is my go-to for a local breakfast meet or even if I just want to get out of the house! They know how to cook eggs to order as well as your meat (I like my bacon done!), and their biscuits are awesome (most of the time). Now, for the reason I dropped one star... We've patronized them for dinner a handful of times and their dinner fare is good. They always have a homespun set of daily specials along with their standard dishes that include sandwiches (burgers, chicken), meat and threes, fish and the food has generally been very good. The problem I have with the dinner shift is the inconsistency in service! We've been for dinner and received the same good service we get in the morning, but more often than not the waitstaff is not up to par. In fact, I wouldn't say they were up to triple bogey! Our last time there we waited more than 15min before anyone visited us. The young gal didn't get either of our orders 100% correct. We couldn't bring it up because she disappeared for 10+min at a time so we just ate what we got! When we did get her her ability to retain the request from our table to the back-of-house (maybe 12-15') and back was abysmal! Once she even stopped to talk to a colleague and that was that. We never got that request fulfilled. We haven't been back for dinner since. Not sure I could get my wife to go. Anyway, the bottom line is, breakfast...most definitely, dinner...you might be rolling the dice. If you care less about service and just want some tasty dinner food, then you are probably okay. ;-) read more

Food was not hot, waitress seemed to take a permanent break and when I mentioned it the other waitress she said she was actually supposed to be our waitress. But she never showed up until I flagged her down at the end of the meal. BUT SOFT DRINKS ARE $4.05 plus taxes! That's just ridiculous especially since they don't show up with refills!!! read more

The food is southern comfort food and hits the spot. Went twice on a recent business trip. Cornbread was great and I enjoyed everything else I had. Took desserts to go and they didn't disappoint. The service was spot on and everyone working was polite and sincere. Lots of regulars; which is an excellent sign. I'll return it back in the area. read more

The Best Country Style Restaurant in North Hamilton County. I've eaten there several years now. The people treat you like family, all the waitresses are the best. All the food is so fresh tasting. I have been overcharged, gotten cold food to go and old tasting in the past ALL of which I have overlook because the food was good and have had good experiences more than the bad. However, a few weeks ago, my experience will be the last. I placed an order to go by phone. I told her to double my time getting there and not to start it for 25-30 min. I got there almost 30 min later. I told her I had a pick up and she walked around....but didn't say anything. Another lady comes and offered help...the other girl walked up and said she had it. The other lady walks off. Meanwhile a man walks in...he had a large bag of food. Come to find out, they gave my food to him. He said that until his son opened his food, they didn't know it was wrong. So he said he got the trays back and brought them back. So, after that, the girl tells me $59 and change. I asked was that my food she said yes. I said do you think I'm taking that food, again, she replied yes. I said, no. It left with someone, went to their house and anything could have happened to the food. I left. Ewwwww read more

What's nice about this place? Everything! Lovely cute little restaurant taking care of offering delicious country style meals to many locals and random travelers. Food is "country" for real. Went in on Tues. at 5:30. About 1/2 full. No greeting. Sat and waited 10 min. for lady to take drink order. Waited another 15 min. to order. Finally, a man from kitchen came out and took my order. Came in timely manner and it was wrong. Had to ask for silverware. No one ever checked on me or came back to refresh my drink. Food was average. Finally paid and left and no tip. First time for that in awhile. This is my 3rd time there and it appeared to me that if you are a regular, you get service. If not, not so much. read more

This is just your typical southern food place that the locals really love for whatever reason. The food was bland and mushy --probably catering to their demographic of older folks-- and the staff treated us like they didn't want to be there. They definitely have regular customers that get better service, but that didn't impress us (obviously). read more

Second time we've eaten here. First time was breakfast and it was excellent. This time we ate lunch. Service was awesome. Everyone picked out different items that they said was delicious. I got fried chicken breast. The crust was so hard I was afraid I would break a tooth. After a couple bites I abandoned the idea and just ate the meat minus the crust. Met some friends here for breakfast. They had pancakes and a cheese omelette, and they were both very pleased with breakfast. My grits were good but my potatoes were meh, and my toast was cheap wheat bread, and only half buttered. The waitress could not have been nicer. Both the ladies I was with met other patrons that morning they knew. It is certainly a community place where men at a common table swap stories and people greet each other. I went to dinner with my brother Tuesday evening. First time I've eaten there in over a month. I was greatly surprised that they now charge 75 cents for water. I only drink water and it came as a shock to me. I ordered the hamburger steak with mushroom gravy. There again they now charge 1.25 for the gravy. I asked why the charge for water and was told because the water company raised their prices. The food was good. But I will not be going back there. I have been eating there for over 30 years but no more. They should have just changed their prices on the menu by 20 cents. I don't think people would have minded that. But to be paying an extra $2.00 for things that should be free is ridiculous! I was so glad when the smoking was prohibited and to be able to eat in the smoke free restaurant. While there I heard other patrons saying the same thing. They will start losing business if they don't change this policy of charging for water read more

Fantastic service and yummy food. The homemade onion rings, yummy burger and the chocolate pie were delicious. The thing that set Whimpies apart was the service. Every time a server passed our table the asked if we needed something even if they weren't the server that took our order. In addition when they found out we were there looking for housing because of a new job they went out of their way to share ideas. It was a true Southern welcome. read more
