While visiting Rochester, the locals told us we had to get a 'garbage plate'. Wimpy's was the best choice in town! At first I didn't recognize the name. When we arrived at the location I realized it was associated with classic cartoons. The cashier we had was very friendly. She took the time to explain the menu and translate was a plate was. She also gave us the recommendation of the best selling cheeseburger plate. Food was up quickly. Restaurant was decorated with taste. I stopped in to grab a quick lunch at Wimpy's after shopping at the Garden Factory. The menu is very big and has all of the traditional burger joint stuff and then some. I was the only customer there, and asked for a grilled cheese and fries. The cashier said "We only have the kids' menu grilled cheese." I said that was fine, because it was what I was in the mood for. But after looking at the menu, "regular" grilled cheese is definitely on there. They must have figured it out because I definitely received a full size meal (pretty quickly too). The food was tasty and reasonably priced - around $10 for my two items. Where can you get lunch that cheaply any more? I also see they offer a decent selection of vegetarian items (veggie burger, quesadilla, wraps) so it's good to have options! read more

We used to come here regularly after seeing a friend at the hospital. We live aways away. Came in today and this was the absolute worst food and service I have ever received. The mac salad was so bad I asked the 2 workers behind the counter if they were under new owners or new management. One worker told me no that it's the same owners and same recipe but something was clearly off. Both my self and my husband ate around the mac salad away. This was a huge waste of money and time. My previous review should be nullified, since it was for the short lived location that was in Greece. Grabbed a G-Plate in Gates. This plate had, and has, all the potential to be the best in 585. It was under $10, which is basically unheard of in 2022. The Mac salad was the best I've ever had in a plate. The home fries were passable, although I like mine more well done. Everything was really good and came together great. The only thing holding this back from 5 stars and being an elite garbage plate? Being skimpy with the meat hot. There was barely any. Be more generous, so that it covers more than just the cheeseburgers, and hits the Mac and home fries, and this would be a top contender for the best. Let me start by saying Burgers are not a go to food for me. We had a small office training session and ordered carry out at Wimpys. For me it was okay, nothing special. Flat burgers on a bun with cheese. To be fair I didn't place the order nor look at the menu so this review is based solely on the food brought to me. When I think of Wimpys, I see Popeye the sailor man and Wimpy eating a bunch of hamburger sandwiches. The burger came with fries which were also ok. I ordered food through uber eats, didn't receive half my order, called the store, the girl that answered was incredibly rude, I asked for the manager, she gave me a credit and said I just needed to call in with my phone number to use it. I have a mega crush on the girl that works here. The tanned blonde girl with the awesome fake nails that seem to get longer, more elaborate, and more eye-catching every time I come in here. One time I asked her if she was single and she was like, "sorry, I like big, tall guys, and you just look too Wimpy." I was like, "hold on, I thought I you guys were Wimpy?" The guys behind the grill heard me call them Wimpy. Needless to say I was kicked out. They did let me keep my garbage plate though, so I was happy. What to get: Garbage Plate with one White Hot and one Red Hot, extra extra meat sauce. What else: White Hot with extra meat sauce, everything. If the owner injured their leg, it'd be Limpy's. Easily my favourite Garbage Plate in town. This is the best Garbage Plate I've ever had, and quite possibly the best in the world. If the injury didn't go away, it'd be Gimpy's. It's significantly better than Taci's Irondeqoit and Nick Tahou's, which themselves are far better than every other place in town. The white hots and red hots are perfectly prepared, hot, fresh, snappy, juicy and perfect. I recommend ordering one of each... you can have any combo you like on there. Burgers are pretty typical so I always go with one white hot and one red hot just for variety. White Hots are one of Rochester's gifts to the world, by the way. They're similar to Brats... and amazing. If the girls working here dressed only in underwear, it'd be Skimpy's. If the employees lived off Garbage Plates, it'd be Blimpy's (oh wait that's already a thing). The various elements of the plate (mac salad, hash browns, beans, coleslaw) are all fresh and delicious and work perfectly, I highly recommend the mac salad and hash browns. I love that their mac salad is creamy and not at all sweet, and I usually don't like these types of potatoes, but these are excellent and go perfectly with the meat sauce. Cut into very small cubes so they really soak up all that meat sauce juice. Sort of like my gf does. If they sold seafood, it'd be Shrimpy's. If the guys were all super cute it'd be Dimply's. I love that when I ask for extra meat sauce at Wimpy, they give me buckets and buckets of the stuff. It makes the food twice as heavy (and probably twice as deadly, but whatever). Even moreso, I like that their meat sauce is greasy, juicy, spiced, tasty, and probably the most delicious meat sauce of any of the GP spots in Rochester. It's perfectly flavoured, to put it mildly. If it were full of Trent Rezner groupie girls, it'd be NIN-pies. If all customers were naked, it'd be Skinpy's. They are open super late... not the 24 hours of Steve T's, but later than most garbage plate spots. 1, 2 or 3am some nights. The hours vary so check into it before you take my word for it. But I like that I can drive to Rochester at midnight and get my fave GP. If everyone took 2 hours to get ready before coming here, it'd be Primpy's. If the owners were into cartoons, it'd be Ren & Stimpy's. Their array of sauces and dressings and mustards (holy mustards, they must have 15 of them from all over the country) is extraordinarily impressive. They all taste different, they all taste gourmet, kind of like my ex-girlfriends. And if guys named James were constantly p*ssing in the parking lot, it'd be Jimpee's. A quick post-review explanation for those reading around the country who don't know what a Garbage Plate is: A GP is not a doctor, but you will need one after you eat one. It is probably the worst thing in the world that you could eat in health terms, but if you're into late night drunk college food, it's absolutely delicious. A Garbage Plate basically combines hamburger patties and/or hot dogs with any combination of mac salad, hash browns, beans, coleslaw, you name it. And it covers the whole thing with delicious spiced wet meat sauce - the more, the better. It's greasy and it's enough to stop your heart. Some people love it, a lot of people hate it. Few are indifferent to it. I personally love them, though I never eat them. And if it were a place where you can rent girls and boys by the hour, the owners would be Pimpy's. Oh wait, that's pretty much what goes on here, now that I think about it. Nm. You select which one you like (Himplease). And then when you get to his/your place, it's position selection (Mishplease) and then, it becomes Pumpy's. So, again. Hands down best garbage plate in the area - the whole plate is so large that we usually split it and leave extra full (though, it would be OK to go for a whole one and not split because who doesn't love a garbage plate?!). The place is clean and they have all these dollar bills on the wall that we love to look at when we come in. The service has always been quick and friendly. For our plate, we always go with our go-to: two cheeseburgers, home fries, extra chili sauce, mac salad with all the condiments loaded on top. I really like Wimpy's because of its location. It's at an area of about 4 competing bars, and when people are drunk, they want food, this place stays open AFTER the bars close. Drunk? Wanna make a decision you'll regret in a few hours? Come here and get the "Burger/Chicken from hell". Food is pretty good as far as burger places like this go, the tables were all really clean too. But when I grabbed at the drawer with the plasticware i noticed it was sticky with who knows what....gag... SanitizeSanitizeSanitize!!! This review has been long overdue. Wimpy's is my favorite place to get a garbage plate in Rochester. Simply called a "plate" here. I have to say I haven't tried Nick Tahou's yet. But I have eaten plates at many other places and Wimpy's has by far been my favorite. Here's the logic behind why they have the best plates. Nick Tahou's might have come up with the concept of take all kinds of junk food and throw it on a plate and you have a delicious garbage plate however this concept only works if the ingredients that go into a plate are all cooked well. And that's exactly what Wimpy's does. Everything that goes on your plate tastes amazing. The fries, macaroni, cheeseburgers, shaved steak, meat sauce.... everything tastes amazing. Everything is hot exactly like I like it and is loaded with cheese and onions. I've tried other things they make like onion rings and finger food and everything has tasted awesome. Top it off with some Frank's Red Hot and you have a masterpiece of a plate. And the serving size is huge! They do half plates too but the half plate that I ordered (cheeseburger) had the same amount of mac and fries as a full one. Just had one cheeseburger instead of two. Located right near Tinseltown IMAX this is my favorite to go spot after a movie to fulfill my ravenous appetite. Another super duper plus point is that it is open late. I have made frequent trips to Wimpy's though it is a 20 minute drive from me for their awesome garbage plates. The staff is mostly nice and service is very quick. There is a condiments bar which has every sauce/spice you can imagine. Two tubs full of butter and garlic spread and unlimited dinner rolls are available to devour with your carb loaded garbage plate. Fountain soda with unlimited refills. Clean restrooms most of the time. Adequate seating for a hots place and outdoor seating available in the summer. 5 stars because this is possibly the best "hots" type place I've been to. I called to tell them they got my Ruben wrong again. This is the third time yeah and they totally mess it up. I've called the second time I called. Yeah I said the other manager from the first time he screwed up and put sauerkraut on my Ruben and when I don't eat it, she said come in at your convenience. Here's my name boom boom boom I'll get you a new one, so I called to say I was coming in and they said oh I'm a new manager and I will not honor that so today same thing happened. Sauerkraut on my Reuben and I called and she told me to come back in the pouring rain tonight and bring back the sandwich and I'll make me a new one. I'm in my pajamas cause I got home two hours ago and I'm outside deep my supper. They don't care and I said I can't believe you don't care I will never step foot in that place again. It's pretty bad, this place used to serve decent food. My wife placed an order this evening for two Reuben sandwich's, one was a meal, the other just a sandwich along with a house salad. I paid upwards of $30.00 for absolute garbage. The house salad was not fresh, it had been sitting in a walk in for some time then once some poor soul wants one it's sent on it's way for $7.00. The sandwiches were disgusting and soggy, I ate a half of one and, that was enough for me to want to do this review. What really irritates me is this Business continues to raise their prices, but the quality of the food goes down. On the website it says your can buy a bottle of Hell Sauce. That's only allowed at the Greece Store, unless the Gates store is a a different franchise, you'd think they'd want to offer everything that's available on the menu to the customer's. Not half bad for a quick stop for lunch on the go. I snagged a half plate here after an event and some shopping/errands. I was craving some salty eats and needed it quick and on the go so it was an easy pick to try Wimpy's. I mostly was super excited that they make it with crispy golden crinkle fries (the best kind of fry). The Mac salad was good, although the noodles were a touch over cooked, but the flavor was there and the single cheeseburger patty was basic and nothing fancy, as expected from a lowkey burger joint.
