I've been to Win Wah before on the off chance that I had to pick up something and this was the closest place but in those instances this place only deserves a 2. The serving size for take out couldn't feed a 5 year old. But luckily I was able to do a work lunch with a client and experience the sit in feel. Well the difference is night and day. The service is fast and friendly. The portions are plentiful and the price was spot on for a lunch in Conshy. We had both sides of the menu; Chinese/American(beef and broc) and Japanese(sushi). We live nearby so one day when we were both too tired to cook we ordered take out. Expecting typical cookie cutter gut-bomb food, I was pleasantly surprised. By no means is it a place we would dine in at over and over, but for the infrequent basic take out order to satisfy a random Chinese food craving (i.e. hot & sour soup, sweet & sour chicken, kung pao beef, etc), this place is not too greasy or over salted (the two most common issues at budget Chinese joints). Prices are reasonable too. I wouldn't drive too far out of my way to go here though...and although Chinese and Thai don't have THAT much in common, I'll point out that Chiangmai next door is knock-your socks off good; so, if looking for a nice sit down BYOB meal, just go there. read more

Win Wah's food was unimpressive Chinese to me when I had it. More memorable than the food was the display tank at the front of the restaurant, in which three large, confused fish swum around each other in an absurdly small space. Seeing that on the way in, it's hard to bring myself to eat the seafood, even though it might put one of them out of its misery. It leapt headifrst onto my blacklist when my roommate, with whom I'd usually visited the restaurant in the past, came home with a shocking photo. It showed a smoked and extinguished cigarette butt, a special surprise in his girlfriend's eggplant meal. He made sure to snap a picture on his cell phone before notifying the waiter. Granted, this incident was in early 2009. But really, how on earth does a spent cigarette butt end up in a plate of food? I'd prefer to avoid Win Wah and not find out. read more

In reality, I'd give this a 2.5. First up: Delivery. I ordered online. 45 minutes later, I still didn't have my dinner. After close to an hour, the delivery driver called me because he couldn't find the door to my apartment (no other delivery person has had this problem). Fair enough, but it was still almost an hour later. I told him where the door was and he hung up. 10 minutes later, he was still nowhere to be found. Another 5 minutes after that and he called back and said he couldn't find my apartment (again, no other delivery person has had this problem). He'd gone into a different building. Finally he just asked me to come outside and get my food. Second: Food. Now, mind you, I have no idea how long my food was sitting since I didn't actually get it until well over an hour after I ordered. It was hot, though. But as someone else mentioned, very greasy. You expect that with Chinese takeout, I suppose, but this seemed extra greasy. And everything in the bag was covered in a thin layer of grease. The dumplings were just okay to me. They tasted exactly like the frozen ones I've bought at the grocery store. Lo mein was pretty standard. But then there was the honey walnut chicken, which is the reason I'd decided to order Win Wah in the first place. I love walnut chicken, but have trouble finding places where it's a.) served and b.) done well. Fortunately, Win Wah does honey walnut chicken well. The sauce was the perfect consistency (and reheated well the next day when I mixed it up with the other leftovers). So I really wanted them to be good. It's the closest chinese place to my work and is pretty cheap ($5 lunch specials). I've had them 3 times in the past week and a half for take out trying a different dish each time and have had mixed results. The food is pretty bland and super greasy in a gross way. I grubhub from here when I'm tired of the peanut butter and jelly that perpetually linger in my boyfriend's fridge. I usually get the chicken mei fun or the chicken kung pao. First the food put in styrofoam to-go containers and stacked in the bag. Because they stacked it, the styrofoam melted into one another. So when lifting the first container out, its bottom was stuck to the lid of the one underneath and spilled it all over. The food was terrible, lacked taste, super greasy, just not even satisfying. Never again am I ordering from them. They forgot to give my order to the driver and did t realize it until I called them twice asking for my meal. I had to wait 1hr 30min to get my meal. I called the lady and told her if the food was going to be cold I didn't want it. She assured me my food won't be cold. I receive my food and guess what, it was cold. I then try to pay the driver after he gets to my office, he then tells me I have to go all the way back to my desk, after waiting for them, to get my card. I got carry out from here yesterday and I can say that I honestly wasn't impressed. I basically was craving general tso's bean curd and can safely say this place did not measure up. The only reason I went is because it is the closest American Chinese place near my office. It seemed like the lunch special was a good deal (around 6 dollars for bean curd, pork fried rice, and egg drop soup) but after tasting the bean curd I can say that I mostly paid for sustenance, and nothing more. read more

Worst Chinese food ever. We have tried this restaurant every 5-6 years for 32 yrs. It is consistently awful. It was raining and where we were going was closed for the day, so we went in. A hostess took us to the table. There was a group of four eating the main course and another couple entered at the same time. No other people were there. It took the waitress 10 minutes to come to our table. She said she would be right back, but started to clean tables. We ordered after 15 min. Ordered two Spring rolls: got one spring roll and one egg roll. They were ok. The next course was pan fried noodles. They had been microwaved and could not be chewed. The shrimp were pretty large but too salty to eat. The flavor was bad and the meats bland. Flavorless sauce, As we paid the cashier and were walking out the door, the waitress brought oranges and fortune cookies to the empty table. We left them. Overall, great food. Their steamed pork dumplings are awesome and they have great soups. Really big menu with tons of choices. They have a huge sushi selection, but I would recommend just sticking with the Chinese food. The rolls are tiny and not worth the insane prices they charge. It's mediocre tasting, certainly not awful, but not worth the prices. I only live a few blocks away, but because I don't want my food to get cold walking home and parking is so bad on that end of Fayette, I always order delivery. I've been ordering from Win Wah for about 5 years now. I typically order online. When ordering online, it gives you the option to leave a tip. I always leave 15%. As I was ordering online recently (today), I accidentally selected the cash option when I put my order through. Since I didn't have enough cash to cover the bill, I called the restaurant, explained what happened and provided them with my order number and credit card information. When my food arrived, I walked down and signed the receipt. I did not put a tip on the receipt as I already left one online (which I have done hundreds of times). The delivery guy proceeded to YELL exclaiming "NO TIP?!?" while belligerently and obnoxiously pointing at the tip line on the receipt. I again explained the situation and reiterated I left a 15% tip online AS I ALWAYS DO but the woman who took my card information must not have reflected the tip on the receipt (which was confirmed she did not). Not my fault but apparently he didn't understand a word that was coming out of my mouth and continued to yell "I NEED MONEY". Uh, yea jacka$$, don't we all. How dare their employees treat their customers, let alone long-time loyal customers in such an egregious manner. It's a disgrace. I called the restaurant and advised (in a calm and polite manner mind you) them of the encounter. So naturally, they were defensive and impolite. I can't even comprehend this situation. Like what and how. And the most hysterical/ironic part of it is, I ended up giving the jacka$$ delivery driver a tip on the receipt so he would shut up and go away AND ADDITIONALLY the ingrate woman I spoke with at the restaurant said the 15% tip went through on my card. I will never be ordering from them again. Oh and here's a non-monetary tip for you lovely bunch at Win Wah, how about not aggressively chastising your customers for not leaving a tip (even though they (aka me) already did.) a close place to where I live and a place I frequent for american-chinese food You get complimentary hot tea and chips/dip as you sit down, and the servers have always been courteous. the servings are also a big helpful portion and I manage twp meals with one entree and an extra order of rice.. Taste wise - nothing will melt your taste buds, but that doesn't mean the food isn't well prepared or flavorful. Coworker and I went here for lunch the other day..pretty good! Typical Chinese delicious food - fried wonton chips and duck sauce on the table. Tea served in a teapot. I've been living in the Conshy area for about three years now and can't believe I haven't tried this Chinese place sooner. Not only can you order and pay for your food using their website, it always arrives hot and so fast. I highly recommend their wonton soup as well as their chicken lo mein. Both are better than standard Chinese food. My husband loved the sesame chicken since it wasn't overly breaded like most Chinese delivery. As a bonus, they also have awesome sushi! Last night, I had the American Dream Roll, the Crazy Girl Roll, and salmon sushi. This was the first time that I had eaten at Win Wah. The rolls were both pretty good, but I tend to judge sushi restaurants based on their nigiri because it really tells you whether they have really high quality fish that can stand on its own. The salmon was really fairly subpar. However, since the rolls were good, I think I would try some other things there. I would avoid the nigiri though. read more

One of my bankers was traveling on business here and ordered about $70 worth of delivery food from Win Wah. Our company's reimbursement policy only allows for $75 per diem expenses on food. Her bill came out to $74 and change. Granted, I know that she 100% skimped the delivery guy on a tip (which was wrong) because of this cap; she should have just paid that out of pocket. Nonetheless, am I'm going through her bills, I noticed that this establishment took it upon themselves to add $10 to her credit card bill for the tip.
