DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS CLINIC. My true rating is 0 stars, but Yelp doesn't allow that. It is the most unprofessional, poorly-run veterinary business I've ever dealt with. Last year, my older dog was suffering from (what we later found to be) an anal fistula. At Winchester Animal Clinic, Dr. Alisha Martin misdiagnosed him as having a ruptured anal gland and put him on two different rounds of antibiotic over a course of weeks. Because of the incorrect diagnosis, the antibiotic treatment did not help. I continued to try and reach Dr. Martin to understand why it wasn't healing, what it should have been looking like, etc., and the office staff continuously brushed me off and told me she "couldn't talk" or "was at a different clinic location" that day. After calling on 3 different days, I finally got a receptionist to walk over to Dr. Martin and speak with her about my concern. Instead of chatting with me over the phone, Dr. Martin cursed me out in the background ("Why the F*** does she keep calling? Does she have the f***ng cone on him? Is she giving him the pills? What the F*** does she want me to say?"), unaware that the receiver of the phone was uncovered and I could hear everything. When I confronted the receptionist about it, she apologized that I heard it, and then said "Dr. Martin had a stressful surgery to perform this morning." Could you imagine your primary care or ped doctor behaving in this way? Could you imagine getting cursed out for wanting to talk to the doctor? I asked to speak to the office manager. Hours later, the "manager" called me back and apologized - then offered me a "discounted re-exam." I told her there's no way I'd let Dr. Martin near my dog ever again. Dr. Alisha Martin NEVER called me back to apologize for her rude, unprofessional behavior...or to even inquire about my dog's condition. She simply did not care, which is not indicative of a good doctor. All along, my dog suffered with a painful anal fistula which then required an ER visit to Mass Vet Referral Hospital. There, we dealt with an intelligent, communicative, and helpful vet named Dr. Victor Caudal, who correctly diagnosed and treated my dog's anal fistula. For primary care purposes afterward, we switched to Bulger Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Libby Holman. Again, a vet who wants to help your pet in a kind and compassionate way - and willing to SPEAK TO THE CLIENT to plan and share details. I highly recommend these two vets. They are worth the extra drive if your dog has serious health problems. And, to be honest, they are light years above and beyond the horrific business that is Winchester Animal Clinic. read more

I brought my dog for a lepto lyme vaccine and was told to come back in 3 weeks for a booster vaccine but was not offered an appointment. When I called later, I was told the only available appointment was 6 weeks from the date of the last visit and that it had to be an appointment with the vet. I asked if they were sure it had to be a vet appointment and couldn't just be a tech visit and they insisted it had to be a vet visit. When I arrived for the appointment, the representative at the clinic told me 6 weeks was too late for a booster and that I would need to pay for both a new vaccine and a new booster. I explained to them that I had not been offered an appointment in office and was only offered an appointment 6 weeks out when I called later. They refused to give any further explanation. They state it was there policy and would not escalate me to any one else. They would not look up the name of the person I spoke to on the phone. They would not tell me the last name of the manager. The in office manager in the office was dismissive and walked out of the room, leaving the person at the front desk to "handle" me. They also did not weigh my dog at my first visit because they said the scale was broken. They would not weigh her 6 weeks later because it is apparently still broken. read more

Very disappointed with their service and professionalism. I live in Winchester and brought my brand new puppy for his first visit (I am also new to owning a puppy) last week. I was very understanding of the COVID protocols of not going in and handing him over at the door. I asked to speak with the vet during or after the visit and I was not allowed to do so. I asked the assistant (who was apparently new and did not have any knowledge regarding puppies) questions and did not receive one informative answer. I then went home with my puppy without any substantial conversation about his health or best practices for him. I was appalled. When I arrived home, I looked at the medication they sent home to give him and it was expired!!! They refuse to take it back. Horrible patient service and I will not be trusting them with any animal in the future. read more

First and last visit. I spent more time on the sidewalk than they did with my dog. When they brought him out to me I asked if they checked his ears, yes I had asked prior, and the response was I don't know. Eventually a man returned with the bill, which looks like a default printout of a list of yes/no in .5 font in a column. He had a prescription that I already said my dog had been on and was not effective. This was even listed in the column. Between the poor management, lack of communication, and rapid appointment, this vet is beyond poor. The payment receipt is something you'd receive in a diner. Nothing itemized, and yes I asked for that too. A complete waste of time and money. I will take my dog elsewhere. read more

I brought one of my cats here for grooming not too long ago. Signed her up for the Whole 9: bath, claws, ears, teeth cleaned, etc, etc. Let's just say that this precious ball of black & white fur can be one hell of a difficult subject when it comes to grooming, and it had been a long time since she had a respectable bath...she needed a complete overhaul! Prior to making her appointment, I stopped by and chatted for a while with the staff. Right off the bat, their kindness and eagerness to help me in my situation inspired me to believe that Missy would indeed be her beautiful self once again...-even if they had to SEDATE her - it WOULD GET DONE! I like a "can-do" attitude! One appointment and $40 later... Ta Da! I have a beautifully soft, and sweet smelling kitty! Best part is she's not going to hate ME for the next 5 years! Plus, when I got her home, she seemed very relaxed. Not sure what their secret is, but I'm pretty sure Missy enjoyed the attention! Bottom line - they're really good with animals, very professional, and cater to your pet's specific needs. Yeah - $40 is relatively steep. But, in some cases, like Missy's, it's necessary. (Feel free to check around, though. I found that their price for grooming is actually lower than others in the area.) This place is just awesome...or should we say, "the cat's meow". :P read more

In a word; Awesome! I wouldn't take my blonde Lab anywhere else. The veterinarians and the supportive staff are tip-top. They're skilled at making both me and Maggie comfortable. Of course Maggie is likely more comfy than me however since I'm paying the bill I should feel good about it. On that note, their prices are fair. Do I wish they were cheaper, sure. Does this make me look elsewhere, certainly not. Maggie gets everything she needs - even last minute - and I always leave feeling confident she's received the right treatment. 'Treatment' being anything from a check-up to a remedy for a hurt paw to plain 'ole vaccinations. Plus, Maggie loves it there because she's spoiled with belly rubs galore. If I got belly rubs and treats I'd feel good too. Too much? Regardless, I'd recommend them in a second. read more

I love these guys. I started bringing my kitties to them over a year ago and they're great - even with my more difficult one. I'm writing a review now because I just had to bring my polydactyl kitty in for an ingrown claw. And it was very ingrown. I probably deserved to be chastised for not being more aware of it and I was bracing myself for a lecture. Fortunately, I didn't get one (I was already feeling bad enough), and they were so, so good to my cat. They got me in the same day that I called with the problem, were quick and professional, clear with their directions for continuing care, and I didn't feel like the price was outrageous. Both doctors are great there, I have been with both of them, and they always call to follow up and make sure your pet is recovering well. I have also seen Ashley, the vet tech every time I have been in there and she is so sweet and great with animals. All around love this place and would highly recommend. The entire staff is knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. read more

I had my Havanese groomed here. The reason we brought him here was because the groomer said he specializes in Havanese. When I got him back he looked ridiculous. The groomer shaved all his hair off. He cut the hair on his ears so short that it doesn't look he has any at all. The groomer said that he had to cut his ears short because they were matted which I find next to impossible seeing as our dog is brushed every day and is cleaned every other week. Then the groomer said that is how he cuts Havanese's. read more

My wife went to drop off our kitten at 8:00 for a spay appointment - by ten after no one was at the clinic. When she called the clinic, the answering service said the vet "would probably be there soon". Yep. By 8:45 my wife and kitten left. At 9:00 the receptionist called to ask if my wife would be bringing kitteh in. My wife replies that she had in fact brought the kitten in - at the appointed time of 8:00. The receptionist then asks if my wife would like to reschedule. No apology. No acknowledgement of my wife's inconvenience. No professionalism whatsoever here. We won't be rescheduling. We'll be transferring the care of our three cats to a more professional practice. Who has time for this? Not us. read more

I love this group from the docs to the techs, amazing caring people. I would never take my dog or any future pets to any other place. I can't say enough about them honestly. The only reason they did not get a 5th star is because of Barstow the groomer. He is not a people person nor an animal person. I find him a bit arrogant. My little rescue loved going to the vet until he starting cutting her nails (and the QUICK every time). My dog now shakes like a leaf, he has to drag her in or Ashley or someone she loves takes her and again he made her bleed. I now have the vet do it and it's perfect and she goes willingly and happy. And as I read all these wonderful comments, the consistent negative is him unfortunately. read more

This place is great. They've helped me out of a jam on a number of occasions. They are very helpful and caring when you've lost a pet. They will do their best to help your pet recover from a surgery. The facilities on-site are nice and the Vets I've spoken with here are great. Also - it's the only place of its kind around - so you're kinda stuck with it!!! read more

Dave Barstow, Dr. Katia, Sara and Ashley are outstanding, caring, incredibly kind and wonderful people with love for all animals great and small. My menagerie loves Dave's grooming. In fact, Charlotte tries to jump out the car window to get inside! I am a devoted and loyal customer of more than a decade. I can't say enough good things about Winchester Animal Clinic and the vets and staff. Sadly, my 19-year-old Himalayan passed away this winter and they helped me grieve and find a wonderful crematorium to take care of my Foxy and return her ashes to me. read more

I have been taking my cats here for checkup, treatment, and diagnostic ultrasounds over the course of two years. Both Dr Chavez and Dr Kennedy are very caring, take the time to explain what may be wrong, or what treatment will involve. They love what they do, and that pays off for both animals and their persons alike. I had to have two of my cats put to sleep over the past 8 months, and during those difficult times, both doctors and the techs, Ashley and the other lady, whose name I cannot remember right now (sorry!) surrounded us with the best of professional and loving care. read more

Awful communication. I've been trying to call them since Thursday, 08/16 to set up an annual appointment and to let them know to expect a call from an adoption agency (as I'm in the middle of adopting another pet), and NO ONE has answered the phone! To boot, there's no voicemail set up yet so I can't even leave a message requesting a call back, and more times then not I get a message immediately that says "the voicemail has not been set up yet" after only one ring. I've called two other Pet Clinics who are in the same system as this one, to see if the adoption agency would have better luck at calling a different one who has my cat's information, and I'm running into the exact same problem. I'm calling them during their open hours so I'm not sure what the problem is. This worries me because if the adoption agency runs into the same problem that I'm running into, then I won't be able to adopt a pet from them. I am more than infuriated at this point and will be switching to a different clinic as a result. However, I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1 star because the one time I did take my pet here (to the Winchester Clinic) when I was still fostering him a little less than a year ago, the doctors and staff were gentle and wonderful. So they are a good clinic when you get service, but good luck trying to call them. read more

I brought my dog here for repeat blood work yesterday and Sara was very friendly and welcoming. It was my first time to this location but I've been to a few of the other offices within the Boston Pet Clinic network. Sara and Dr. Martin were gentle with my dog and very quick with the blood draw. The other customers I met while I was waiting seemed very pleased with the service they received. Sara was also very attentive to their needs and questions as well. Dr. Martin called today to discuss my dog's results and plans moving forward. I am extremely happy with the care they have shown to my animal. read more

I have been taking my dog here for vaccines and the staff are very nice. Dr. Kennedy is awsome and down-to-earth. I would always recommend them to any dog owners for their vet services ONLY. The reason why i'm giving this place one star because they're apart of the grooming business "Grooming by Barstow" - the WORST grooming job i have never seen in my life. They man didnt even listen to what i wanted for my 4 months old Shorkie. I thought i wanted to get her started a little bit early with grooming work so she could get used to it later on. I remember i stated very clear that i just want him to TRIM her hair, leave her face a teddy bear look, dont cut more than 1/3 the length of her hair. I still wanted my puppy to have a fluffy look. The man took my dog for a several hours.. As soon as i saw her, i was horrified!!!! The man literally shaved my dog down to nothing. The last thing i ever wanted was my shorkie puppy (that looked extremely cute and fluffy like a teddy bear before), now looked absolutely like a.. chihuahua!!! Hello.. she's a puppy, there's no need to shave her down to her skin. I brush my dog's hair everyday just to make sure she has no knots or matted on her hair. They even said i did a good job on taking care of all the knots before she got grooming. So why did they have to shave almost more than half of her hair???? An experience groomer would know what to do to a puppy vs an adult full gwown dog. And i dont think the man ever cared at all. Days later i'm still bitter with my dog's bad grooming job. i shared the story to some of my friends in town. And come to know, some of them have also had the same bad experience with this "grooming by Barstow" place for thier dogs as well. They all know the man there can only SHAVE dogs hair for his job, he has NO such grooming styles at all!!! Oh gosh, what done is already done. I cant turn back time. Now every day seeing my shorkie puppy walking around with a shaved look entire of her body, as if she had gone thru some kind of chemo treatment or something that her hair completely shed, i feel so bad. Everyone still loves her for her personality but Goodbye cute look!! Dont know if her hair ever grows back fluffy like before. Never come to this place for GROOMING services if you dont want your dog to get shaved down to skin. read more

My dog had been groomed here many many times before, but unfortunately, the last time was not so great. The hair cuts have been fine, but apparently his ears were not dried out completely and the little guy got an ear infection very soon after his Groomers by Barstow visit :(. He's never had an ear infection before, so I didn't know what the problem was, but that there was definitely a problem since he was so agitated. The vet immediately guessed that he was bathed recently and that his ears weren't dried properly, even before me mentioning that he had been groomed. Little pup was miserable for weeks and had to take medication, so the groomers ended up costing more than we had expected after factoring in the vet bill. Very unfortunate, since the location was so convenient. I guess I could specifically ask for them to take extra care in keeping my dog's ear dry, but I wouldn't want to risk having a bad result again and having a sad, sad dog. read more

All the staff at the Winchester Animal Clinic are wonderful. I miss Dr. Kennedy, and, am sorry he has left. But the new Vet , Dr. Chaves , is very kind! I have lost two of my Kitties ( brothers ) this month , and , it has been very difficult. The whole staff has been very supportive. Now, a third kitty, my Himalayan Persian has cancer, and , I don't know what I would do without these kind,caring professionals. Barstow has been grooming all of them for years, he does an excellent job !! And, he is a sincere and caring man !!! read more

We started going here in March after leaving Banfield. We were happy with the vet and the quality of care. However, we just tried to schedule another appointment for our cat and found out the clinic has new ownership coming in on the 11th and no one really knows what's going on. Looks like we have to find a new vet again. These things happen but it would have been nice for the clinic to let their customers know ( I don't think I would have found out if I hadn't called this week). read more

My husband and I have lived in three states in the last five years and have taken our dogs to several vets along the way; Winchester Animal Clinic is undoubtedly the best clinic we've ever taken our labs to. They are speedy with appointments, extremely reasonable with pricing, and go out of their way to follow up when our dogs are placed on special medications and care. I've experienced nothing but a friendly and competent staff, and was very impressed when they called my dogs by name on our second visit -- clearly they value relationship management and this is hard to come by nowadays. Very impressed, and glad to have a clinic that we're happy to give our loyalty to. read more
