I had previously brought my cats to the other vet in Stoneham. That vet diagnosed my cat with diabetes and told me he doesn't treat chronic conditions because he's not in the office enough and told me to take him to a veterinary hospital for treatment. I called Central Animal Hospital and they said they can treat my cat. Dr Grambow took his time explaining diabetes and the treatment options and answered all of my questions with patience and respect. So far the follow-ups have been good here as well. read more

I've been going to Central Animal Hospital for over 20 years. In 2019-2020 this business sold and replaced with all net vets and technicians, so you should disregard reviews before 2019. Since under new management, I rarely see the same vet twice, even for follow up visits, so I honestly can't rate the vets, although nice enough. The techs are very nice for my regular cat nail clipping visits. it seems very expensive, but that might be all animal clinics today. read more

My sister had a negative experience with her cat at a different vet's office, and feeling distraught, she switched and brought her cat to Central Animal Hospital and was so glad she did. When I moved back to the Boston area, she recommended I bring my cat here, and I've had nothing but positive experiences. Irene is so pleasant over the phone, and equally lovely when you come and sign in. My cat, who hates going to the vet, sees Dr. Hutchins, and he makes it as painless of an experience as possible. The techs are wonderful too and everyone there treats my cat like royalty -- I imagine they do the same for all of the animals that are brought in. We brought our pup here at 8 weeks when we got him based on positive Yelp reviews and I am so happy we did! We have seen all 3 vets at this practice and every single one of them is friendly, compassionate and knowledgeable! They remember our dog every time from the last visit, so there's minimal amounts of having to explain the same issues over and over. They try to provide reasonable solutions instead of always insisting on more medication or procedures (unless necessary!). The front desk staff are absolutely awesome too and they're always quick to respond when we send them an email between visits. Highly highly HIGHLY recommend Central Animal Hospital! read more

I really can't believe I haven't yelp'd this place and I've been a fan since 2000! Everyone one of my animals have gone here, from the dogs, to the cats to the bunni's to the white mouse that my son saved from a crushing death. Dr. Dawn Binder is the sweetest vet you will ever meet. She loves our fur-babies like they are her own and Dr. Hutchins is just as great. The care I receive there makes me feel safe in the choices that I have to make for my babies. They inform me of every possible option, recognize that I am not made of money and absolutely know that I love my babies so much that sometimes what is best is just to let nature take its course. I love them for that. I love the soft voice of Irene when I call in for an appointment. It is so refreshing to hear familiar voices that totally remember who I am when I call. They are not a bad vet, just not a good one. I first started going here when I just moved to the area and my dog was sick. They did a fine job, with him, but ever since I have been slowly becoming more skeptical of my animal's care. Dr Marks had me buy medicine that my cat did not need and seemed very hesitant to give me answer even a qualified one. To make matters worse I have had a series of poor communications and very poor customer service. Again they are not a bad vet just not a good one and it is quite obvious that they are way more interested in billing me than caring for my pets **edit** I left this vet because they wanted me to sign a paper that they are not responsible if my pet is lost, when dropping my cats off for surgery. I refused, I have been responsible for neutering several cats in NH and had never seen such a form. The office manager called to talk it over with me and said that it is a MA law to sign a form stating such. It was a bold faced lie as I just dropped my cats off at another vet in MA and was not asked to sign a form relieving them of responsibility for loosing my pet. This seriously brings their competence into question for me. read more

Central Animal Hospital is cheaper than other vets in Boston; the staff truly cares about my dog, from the front desk staff to the technician to the vet; my dog loves going there and all the staff genuinely enjoys caring for pets. Much better than places in Boston that just want to get your money and make you leave as fast as possible. The vets we've seen at Central Animal Hospital were patient and spent a lot of time explaining things to us; they want to understand the dog's health as a whole and not just prescribe meds. I was really excited to bring my dog here in February of last year after they came so highly recommended from a dear friend. There are 2 vets at the hospital, my friend has the female vet, while we were assigned to the male vet (who I later found out was the owner). From the get go, I just didn't feel a great connection/vibe from him. We were there because my pup had deep gashes on the edge of her ears. We figured they would clean up the gashes then sew the ears back up. But instead, he advised us to cut her ears short (she has long floppy beagle ears) because if they just tried to stitch up the gashes she could get infected again. I was apprehensive, but trusted his judgement. Well, Laney went into surgery and had her ears snipped. Well the problem was the cuts were different sizes on each ears so after the operation her ears were different lengths. You can say she looks abstract now. :/ Thankfully she is cute enough to pull it off. Well, we took her home, head fully bandaged and in a cone of shame. Her ears were supposed to heal within a week. Well numerous visits and three weeks later, she FINALLY came out of the cone/bandage. It was an exhausting ordeal where we never really got a true answer as to what went wrong and why the healing took so long. Thankfully the only silver lining was they finally stopped charging us for office visits/supplies after about the 3rd trip in there for the same problem. I thank them for that. The technicians and receptionists were amazing and quickly learned Laney's name and had a great relationship with all the animals in the waiting room, etc. After this ordeal, we decided to change vets. Would I give it another chance? Maybe if we tried the female vet. read more

I had a recent medical emergency with my dog after a reaction to a routine rabies shot at a vaccine clinic. I rushed her in to Central and the staff immediately took her in back and literally saved her life. A clinician came out intermittently to give me updates and after she was stabilized she was then transferred to an emergency hospital for further care. I also recently had to put my 21 year old cat to sleep and the staff was very compassionate and caring. I brought my 8 year old female terrier in because I thought she may have hurt her right paw,ankle? ect.. After I made the appt. I brought her right in which I thought was great and I was extremely greatful at the prompt service which was next to none. I was immediately introduced with the nicest women ( who was the Dr.) & within ten min had a Diagnosis of Lime Disease. She gave my dog a round of anti biotics & blood work,ect.. And within 24-48 hours my dog felt 100 times better,I highly recommend Central Hosp. To anyone who has an emergancy, they are extremely friendly from the staff,to the diagnostic staff and Doctors. They saved me from a miserable heartbraking few days of watching my dog who is most definitely a big part of my our family in pain. last year my 18-y-o Pomeranian passed away from senior dementia (walking in circle 80% of his waking hours) and weight loss. My pom was also blind and deaf for the last 2-3 years of his life, so he constantly bumped into walls, furniture and once I found him trapped under my coffee table after I got home from work ( was heart broken! didn't know how long he was trapped there) But my pom was always strong willed and determined, he hang on like that for months, maybe years. The hardest thing for the dog owner is to decide when to put your old/sick friend down. I have been bringing my furbabies to Central Animal Hospital since Dr Hutchins first started in Stoneham. The level of care,understanding and medical knowledge is great. When you leave there you know what the problem is and how it is to be treated. If outside lab testing is needed you get the results right away, not a week later like some of our human doctors. The staff is wonderful and very helpfull, if you call with a question they get right back to you. They also offer boarding and grooming.I have used both and been very pleased. There isn't a bad thing that I could say about Dr. Binder and her staff! Especially Katie. They are the most amazing staff in the veterinary world! My 8 month old Golden Retriever has allergies that are uncommon and had a botched surgery, not performed by Dr. Binder, that caused a 2nd surgery that was much more invasive and severe. Dr. Binder and Katie and the reception staff at CAH were so kind and considerate and compassionate. They called daily to check upon Lucy after her emergemcy surgery. Not because they had to but because they genuinely cared about her well being. They are very helpful with all of my questions and concerns and are more than patient with my 15 phone calls a week. If you want your pet to have a long, healthy, happy life then I STRONGLY recommend that you take them to see the staff at Central Animal Hospital. read more

This vet is the best! They are so caring and loving to our cats and treat them as their own...they greet us with a smile (cats and us humans). They were the only vet that recognized and treated the ring worm my cat was shipped up to Florida with (with a simple human prescription. Their offices are modern and comfortable and they don't treat your animals like we are treated as humans at a doctors office. Prices are affordable. I will never go anywhere but! I have purebreeds that are not common to the area and they are very knowledgeable on the breeds. A definate 5 star VET! read more

I bring my VERY nervous little Yorkie to Devin to be groomed. She does an awesome job, her price is extremly reasonable, and she is absolutely wonderful with my dog. I had tried so many different groomers until I found Devin at Central Animal Hospital through a Groupon, and now I only take my dog to her to be groomed. I can't say enough good things about Devin!! I also don't understand the negative reviews about the front desk help. They have always been very nice to me and as far as I can see, very nice to everyone else that comes in, either to have their animals groomed or to see a vet. It IS a busy place and they try to help everyone as quickly as possible, so they don't have a lot of time to exchange lengthy "pleasantries" with everyone, but they certainly do their best to accommodate each person. read more

My two cats have been going to Central for about 12 years now. The drs and staff know them almost as well as I do and we always receive excellent care. In October both of my cats were sick, one with intestinal inflammation and the other with pancreatitis, which was a tough one to diagnose. The whole team was so empathetic not only to the cats but also to me. They didn't give up on getting them back on their feet, answering my calls and questions every day with patience and much thought into what we could try next. Dr, Beth Marks was so wonderful throughout and genuinely concerned for their well being. Very happy to report that, after both cats not eating for up to 5 days, we are healthy and happy once again. Horrible And expensive! They look at you pet like a money making machine. And forget it if you have an emergency and are short on money. My Grandmother's dog just passed away and a few days prior, my uncle tried to bring her in and because he did have the entire cost, they refused to treat her. My uncle pleaded with them that he didn't get his check until the following week...still refused. Now she is gone. You people need to reevaluate why you got into this profession in the first place. read more

All of the staff i have encountered here have been compassionate and understanding to the needs of my pets as well as myself as the pet owner. Unethical and disgraceful vet. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. I had been bringing my 3 year old German Shepherd here since I got her, my aunt and sister both used this vet as well. I didn't have any issues up until my last visit when they had told me that she was diagnosed with Lyme disease and their office never told me after my previous visit A YEAR AGO. So, they let my dog get continually worse for a full year and never said a word until I came in a year later for her checkup. They had my address and my cell phone number so there are no excuses. We then had to get her tested again to confirm that it did in fact spike A LOT and I had to get her liver tested to see if it was also impacted. I would be a little less furious if they took responsibility, but they passed me off to several people and never admitted their mistake. Instead they blamed my dog, saying "how do we know she didn't get bit by a tick again and that's what made her lyme worse." My family members and I have since found a better vet who actually care about animals. read more

If you love your animal dont bring them there. Pretend they care but are not real knowledgeable except for giving shots and basic. If your animal is sick they run your billls up and than say well animals cant talk. Totally incompetent doctors. Mixes up animals records and dates of shots. read more

Took my cat in today for a checkup and vaccinations. The receptionist, while seemingly swamped with phone calls, was very sweet and helpful. Dr Hutchins was also great - he's very gentle and so was the tech that helped out. My cat is from a feral cat colony and is pretty nervous about new people but the appointment went so smoothly with their help! The doctor answered all of my questions thoroughly and took the time to really explain everything. I did have to wait a little while before actually being seen, but once I saw the care they provide I realized it was totally worth it. We'll definitely be back next year! read more
