I am beyond disappointed with Banfield Pet Hospital and especially the management at this location. I booked an appointment TWO DAYS in advance for my dog, who is limping and clearly in pain. The appointment was scheduled for 5:30 PM. Then, the MORNING OF THE APPOINTMENT, I get a call saying they suddenly need to reschedule due to a "conflict." This has happened repeatedly with this location -- almost every later-day appointment I've booked somehow ends up needing to be moved. At this point, it feels less like bad luck and more like they simply don't want to honor late appointments. When I politely pointed out that this keeps happening, I was given a vague "system error" excuse. Then I was told they "wouldn't be able to do X-rays that late." As someone familiar with animal handling and basic veterinary procedures, I asked whether they were assuming sedation would be needed, because for a dog of this size and the location of the injury, sedation would likely be unnecessary and the positioning for the X-ray would be very straightforward. Instead of having a professional conversation, the manager became defensive and accused ME of being rude. He then lectured me about staffing shortages and implied I should have just taken time off work. That response was unbelievably inappropriate and dismissive. Pet owners schedule appointments in advance specifically because many of us work full-time jobs and rely on the appointment time we were given. I understand staffing issues happen. What I do NOT understand is repeatedly canceling or moving appointments last minute and then treating concerned pet owners with disrespect when they question it. The most concerning part is that this behavior came from the manager himself. If this is how management handles clients, it explains a lot about the ongoing issues at this location. I will be escalating this to corporate because this was unacceptable customer service and, more importantly, poor care coordination for an animal in pain. read more

Banfield is all about money. They are horrible. You can't go in the room with your pet. I ended up leaving them a while ago, but because they lured me in with a wellness plan...I had to bring my girl back to get spayed. I called in November to make an appointment. Earliest was May. MAY. Lady said my plan was cancelled so I may have to make a payment. Ok. Called in March to verify appointments. Oh. Dr is on leave. Ok were you going to call me??? Set up a new appointment. In the time between my boy broke out of crate got to my girl. Boom we have 9 puppies. Was in contact with my new vet for everything. After all said and done. Aug 3rd dropped her off to get fixed. Called me after I left she has an infection. Paid all that took her home. Brought her back 2 days ago. After having a conversation with the shift leader who was out sick this time....new girl had no clue how to do her job and was unable to get me anyone who could help saying I had to pay in full after I dumped over 2 grand into the wellness plan. It's only 800 to get her fixed. The staff turnover is ridiculous. I been with my new vet for 2 years and I know them all too well. Now I'm out 2 grand. Still have an unspayed male and female. I caution you to choose this place. There are so many other vets out there that actually will work with you and care about animals. read more

I had a wellness plan with Banfield for many years. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to my dog Gaby on 6/23/24 with the help of the vet. At the time, I was told to keep paying for the plan as it was gonna be up for renewal soon. The plan cost $62.95 a month, and I was charged for July and Aug. Cut ahead to today (12/27/24), and I received a notice that I owed $82.95 and that this was a 2nd attempt to collect. I started calling around 2:40 p.m. kept getting transferred and eventually ended up using that call back option, which should've received a call in about 35 min. An hour later, I finally had to call back and, after getting transferred, some more was informed. I now owe $97+ I never canceled a payment, and now I'm paying an extra $35? It's not about the money but a lack of compassion for something that was a misunderstanding. May they never have someone treat them in the way that treated me, former customer who will never recommend their service to anyone again. Funny part is they more or less deleted her account after she passed all but the collection of their money that is. I tried to reach Banfield for over a week, unsuccessfully. Initially, I called because my dog was refusing to eat. I could not get a person on the phone, so I left a detailed message asking them to return my call, which they never did. I ended up taking my dog to another vet. Again, today, I tried calling Banfield to ask about neutering. They are nearly impossible to get in touch with. On previous occasions when I spoke with the female receptionist over the phone or in person, she was unprofessional and incompetent. I've been a customer at Banfield for over 5 years and I have to say I'm canceling my wellness plan. The Woburn, MA location is by far the worst vet clinic I've ever been to. The last year I've called over 10 times and not one time have I talked to a person or has anyone called me back. My dog has had a few injuries and sicknesses and I was unable to get even an appointment to have him checked out. I pay $50 a month for a "wellness plan" that is utterly useless. I'm Caning that and I will take my Dog to a vet that actually Cares about treating animals and helping people. I know covid has caused problems but how hard is it to answer the phone and say we're really busy and with the restrictions it's a long wait. I was the biggest fan of Banfield & recommend all my friends to go there and get the wellness plan. Well, things changed in the end when my St Bernard was diagnosed with "Cancer" in his hip. We were told any time would be the right time to put him down. We were sent home with 7 days supply of meds. ( he could take 2X a day). Well on the 6th day he needed more meds... He was 175 lbs & couldn't move... The dr assured us we could call & she would help us... Of course the time came & no one was there for him. The on duty Dr. Didn't feel comfortable giving us any more pills. Said they would call the next day. No one called & we were not able to watch him suffer any more. There was nothing they could do to save him. We just wanted time to deal with him having to leave us at only 7 years old. I thought vets were supposed to be humane & care for the pets... This place is awful. I never heard of shutting your phones off in the middle of the day on a Monday. Very frustrating to call multiple times for over an hour to get in touch with someone. My dog was diagnosed with a thoracic spinal cord compression for which he was in a lot of pain for. When he woke up in terrible pain and couldn't walk I couldn't even get in touch with anyone. Even when your pet is very very sick and needs attention. Too long when your pet is hurting. Twice I've been forced to the emergency hospital because they were too busy. What the heck am I paying you for if every time I need you you are too busy? I was going to cancel after they denied me help when my dog was very sick but they talked me out of going and promised things would be better. I explained the situation with my dog to her, to which she responded "we're fully booked for the next two days. Bye" and hung up on me. No explanation, no suggestions of alternate vet to call, the only cordiality I was accorded was the curt goodbye I don't know about you, but if I'm a business who has to deal with sick animals and people who are distressed that their animals are sick, I want the first point of contact that my customers have with me to be a pleasant one. Do not sign a contract with Banfield Pet Hospital after ! I had been a customer Banfield for four years. Suddenly everything changed I couldn't get an appointment no matter how many times I called so I had to start looking outside my state because I had a contract with Banfield for my three pets. Then all of a sudden they weren't even picking up their phone. So I decided to cancel my contract I was told their policy was I had to pay for the entire contract so when the contract was up, I took my two dogs away, but was stuck with my cat Trixie for another year. I'm not actually sure why. Not only did I pay for eight months for my two dogs and cat taking them to another vet instead of being able to rely on my contract with Banfield I was told I could cancel my two dogs but I had to pay an additional year for Trixie. The contract was over in October. I went in and explained that I do not want to renew with this company because of the dishonesty. despite writing letters to the main office in Canada, and trying to contact every number I could as Banfield was not at that time answering their calls nobody was at their office my area I ended up paying another year over $800 for Trixie. Then when I thought I was done I got a collect $191 numerous calls to a collection company with proof that I had paid it because it was automatically withdrawn from my accounts a year later, I find yet another collection letter from Banfield after providing proof of payment to their collection company do not get involved with this company they had dishonest, and they have cheated me out of thousands read more

To whom it may concern, On April 6th, 2021 my wife and I brought our healthy happy pit bull mix "Nikita" to Banfield Woburn. She was brought in for shots and bloodwork a simple procedure, 16 minutes later she was brought back out panting, and clearly distressed. When I mentioned this the tech replied "she's a pit bull she can handle it" I think this was a pittie stereotype and not reflective of the gentle girl that I brought in. We brought her home and over the course of the next few days she continued to get worse. We brought her to Massachusetts Veterinary Hospital in Woburn on April 10th and 11th, 2021 and finally to westford emergency on April 12th 2021 where we euthanized her. We were not able to save my baby girl we watched her suffer for 6 painful days. I believe that this is due to stress from negligence on the behalf of Banfield particularly Dr A Ermilio, C Buckley and J Rodriguez. Not only do I believe that we are owed a refund for what we paid Banfield the prepayment through July but I also believe you owe me for the emergency vet visits that would not have needed to happen had it not been for your carelessness. Having spoken with multiple veterinarians it has been told to me that with the amount of distress that she was in she should have been kept under veterinary observation for at least twenty minutes. read more

Banfield is great - until you actually need them. I had a sick cat and they told me there were no appointments for weeks. I can understand waiting for a well appointment, especially these days, but when your pet is sick, they need to be seen. What is the point of paying for the wellness plan when you can't even use it and have to go to another vet? And the experience with the other vet, who understands the urgency and got us in, was amazing. Will not be renewing the wellness plan when it expires later this year. read more

AWFUL. Just inexcusably bad pet care. You are nothing more than a number there. More often than not our appointments (which were a nightmare to book in the first place 8+ weeks out) were changed or moved 48 hours or less from the appointment time due to understaffing. This was a regular occurrence. We finally found a new vet and could not be more happy to leave and move to a vet that actually cares about our pet. The "wellness plan" was a complete waste of money. Including unlimited appointments is a worthless perk when in any scenario it is at least a multi-week wait for an open appointment. Any issue that arose that we needed a vets opinion on were not handled by the vet. They were unable to see our pet and each time referred us to somewhere else to receive care. Save yourself the hassle. If you can take your pet anywhere else for pet care please do so. Clearly I am not the only person that feels this way as there are plenty of 1 star reviews with what seem to be very similar experiences. This place is very disappointing. read more

I wish i had read these reviews before I wasted a bunch of time and got ripped off. My dog day care had an issue with Canine Influenza and mandated that all dogs get vaccinated. I called Banfield in Woburn to make the appointment on November 17th, and they let me know it was a two part series and I'd have to bring him back a second time. I was ok with this. The soonest appointment they could give me was on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at 2pm. We had to postpone our drive west to visit family because it was important we get his taken care of. His father brought him, and I assumed all had gone well. When I gave the papers to his day care they told me he was given the wrong vaccine. I couldn't fathom how that could have happened. Turns out they gave him Bordetella ( which he did NOT need and I did NOT ask for). I needed to get this straightened out so I took MORE time off of work to bring him back. Knowing they had screwed up, given my dog a vaccine he did not need and inconvenienced us horribly I figure they'd at least not charge me for the office visit. NOPE! Not only did they charge me for the office visit ( mind you, he had an exam 9 days before this and required nothing but the shot) we were in there for all of 5 minutes while my dog shook like a leaf. I gasped when the receptionist not only told me my bill was $105 ( we had spent $145 on the 21st) but that I'd also be charged for another office visit when I brought him back in 3 weeks! I was disgusted and told her to cancel the appointment for the follow up. I will take him somewhere that doesn't blatantly rip people off. This will not be the last they hear from us about this. The kicker is the veterinarian that saw him for all of 5 minutes said "The person who brought him didn't tell us we were giving him the wrong vaccine". Really? Banfield gets poo-pooed on a lot for being a chain, but that's exactly why I signed up for their wellness plan when I was living in Florida but coming back to Massachusetts several times a year with my dog. I wanted to be able to take him to a vet in either location without needing to have his records transferred every time. Also, I was a broke college kid when I got my dog and now I'm a broke young professional. But the $25 every month for the peace of mind knowing I'll never having to pay $500+ all at once for a checkup or an emergency appointment is worth it in the end, and I love seeing my lifetime savings every time I go. My dog is almost 8 so we've been to two checkups every year, plus those random aches and pains and illnesses maybe once a year, so I say I've been to Banfield probably 20+ times in his lifetime and I've never had a problem. They do occasionally pressure me to have his cherry eye removed - but he's had it since birth (as do the other pups from his litter) and it has never changed or bothered him, so I refuse the unnecessary risks associated with anesthesia and surgery, but the vet always respects my reasoning. One thing I would like to note is that they always encourage you to drop off your pet for their checkups and vaccines, but I'm way too nervous for that, so I opt to bring my dog in for a traditional office visit where he never leaves my sight if I don't want him to. I also really appreciate their hours - nights and weekends are key for a busy person like me, and the fact that I can get a walk-in appointment if I think it might be an emergency situation has come in handy twice now. And they didn't laugh at me when I brought my dog in with a broken nail. It was really bothering him to the point where he wouldn't walk, so they basically cauterized it to stop the bleeding, wrapped it in some gauze, and my over-dramatic dog forgot it ever hurt. read more

Our Cat Ralph went to regular vet for teeth cleaning. The vet said, he has an infection and maybe cancer- OMG I left so upset. On advice from our daughter who takes her dogs to Banfield in Wobun Mass- we decided to get a second opium and so glad we did. First of all our cat did not ride well in the car and was a mess by the time we got there. No problem, they put us in a room, we were able to clean him and his carrier up. Vet came in, " yes he has a broken tooth, we can do this this in 5 days. We got the plan, talked about what was going to happen and we were all set. What a relief. Banfield in Everett, Massachusetts has cared for my pet since a pup. I live in Kingston NH and make the trip to Everett for continuity of care. My dog is an extremely nervous Aussie and I feel the trip is well worth it. She responds very well to the incredible support staff as well as the vet as apposed to a couple of other clinics I tried closer to home but strongly feel its best to continue with the group we know. From the practice manager, Jay, to Matt who so calmly assists the doctor with my dogs care to the front desk staff I can't applaud them enough. Jay has also helped me with teaching and calming my nerves and anxieties when I first acquired my dog. Hats off to a wonderful group of folks at Banfield. read more

My puppy was attacked by an off-leash dog. We took her to the ER and found out she had a fractured leg. A few weeks before, we signed up for the puppy wellness plan at Banfield in Woburn and set them up as her vet. Over the last month and a half they've been amazing. The front staff is so sweet and friendly as well as the doctors. I've had to leave my puppy there for the entire day twice for sedation, X-rays, and new casts and always felt like she was really cared for and loved. She is now cast free and completely healed!! We only have follow up, regular puppy visits ahead for shots and check-ins and I'm so glad we have them in our lives! read more

I am so disappointed in Banfield Woburn. I have two dogs and a rabbit and use this location for all three of them. Since Covid-19 hit, their policy is same day only appointments for certain services. One of those services is nail trimming. I've called every day/every other day, even throughout the day occasionally, since July 20th (3 weeks), for a simple nail trim for my rabbit. Many times, the phones rings and goes to voicemail. Other times, a curt and bored woman (though she sounds extremely young) answers, takes my number and doesn't call back. Or just states, "No." when I ask if there's availability for a nail trim. No? Just no? Nothing else? On today's call I was directed to "a local groomer", rather dismissively. While I understand the severity of the virus, it's clear Banfield and their employees do not care for the needs of all their customers, instead operates by picking and choosing which animals will score an appointment. I find it sad and disappointing after years of loyalty and three animals, Banfield can't find 5 minutes to trim nails or squeeze in an easy appointment. Calling nonstop is is inconvenient, inconsiderate, and clearly - my money is better spent elsewhere. Sorry, but it's bad business to switch to same day appointments, but then not have any availability on any given day for 3 solid weeks. Compound that fact with poor customer service and I'm gone. Banfield, you may employ some capable and kind Vets, but if the gatekeepers to your services are abrupt in manner, unaccommodating and treat your customers like they're burdens...then I'd rather go elsewhere. I suggest you tweak your policies and clean house in your clinic if you want to keep the remainder of your customers. read more

Our cats ( it was 5 now 4 of them) have been going to Benfield at Woburn for the last close to 10 years.! All the staff and the doctors are fabulous, very professional and takes great loving care of our 4 chubby fuzz balls, even though sometime our cats don't always reciprocate in the same fashion. Hey, no cats like to wake up early in the morning only to find out they are going to the vet. We really love Dr. Norris... she is the Cesar Millan to the cats ... We will keep going there as long we have cats, or as long as Dr. Norris is there. hey I will even go there .. if they see human... I did notice that their office has been getting a lot more busier for the past 2 years, maybe that's why the waiting time seems to be longer than usual? never the less, the staff always try to do their best to cut down the waiting time. I spoke directly to Dr. Norris, Chief of Staff. She stated that they have many clients and staffing issues and were not willing to be flexible about the Heartworm prevention. My new Vet has the Apoquel for $1.86 a pill saving me more then $235 a year. They gave me a prescription for 12 months of heartworm for each dog, price matched Allivet, and gave me a $12 rebate for each. Can't beat that. read more

I've been a wellness plan subscriber of Banfield's for years now, for all 3 of my pets. While I heard some negative things about the company before enrolling I decided to give them a try as I am a nervous mom and love that I can bring my animals in whenever I'm worried about something without being charged an office visit. Anyways, the Cambridge location actually diagnosed my dog Harvey's cancer. And because we caught it when we did plus many other blessings, he's still with us and doing great. The care I got from his vet in Cambridge was great and she was always super compassionate. A few years back we moved to Medford making Woburn our most convenient location and started bringing all 3 of our babies there. While appts can sometimes be hard to come by, I've been in there at least 25 times in the last 4 years with concerns of various types and the team always find a way to get me in. I also appreciate the reminder calls and follow up calls we get post appt! I've really liked every vet we've seen at Banfield Woburn and they are a feeling and compassionate bunch. We are definitely regulars, but they don't give me a hard time about that and always really listen intently as I share my concerns. While there are some frustrating policies (different locations refusing to fill prescriptions bc their vets haven't seen us, not taking payment over the phone, etc.) the care has been respectable and the prices feel fair. I've never felt like they have tried to get more tests or make me spend more money than was needed to address an issue, which I appreciate. Every doc I've dealt with there has seemed knowledgeable even if a fairly new veterinarian. Lastly I've always loved the vet techs and the majority of the front desk staff. They all seem to be patient, kind folks. Very recently I was running really late picking up my cat's b12 injections and fluids and not only did they say they'd wait for me before closing but I arrived and the tech had prepped the fluids for me and fashioned a light resistant bag to store the b12 meds which are sensitive to light. I was a fan of Banfield, and really they thought they cared about Lab. My dog is getting older and Banfield Diagnosed her with a chronic skin disease that would require her being on Meds for the rest of her days. When the prescription ran out we called to get another. They stated they cannot give her any meds until they see her again...translation, we want more of your money, even though we know she will be on these meds forever and there is nothing else that can be done. So we set up an appointment, when going for the appointment, they said they over booked or didnt have our appointment and can see her in a week....sorry. I asked for the meds, even a seven day supply because my dog is constantly scratching and whimpering due to the skin issue and meds helped a lot. they said" we don't feel comfortable giving them without seeing her again and we don't have time today" They could not care less about the condition of my dog. These meds aren't a narcotic so I didn't see the issue in prescribing them. We found the name of the meds and went online and bought them...I honestly didn't even know that was an option. They are only there to make money and really don't care about the condition of your pet. Pay a little more and find a reputable Vet who actually cares about your animal read more

I recently changed my vet because the old one was getting out of control with prices (more then twice as much for an office visit fee). I can't say enough about my pleasure with Banfield Pet Hospital in Woburn, MA. I have Dr. Norris and a couple of the associate vets there and they are all great. They take time to answer my questions and have even given holistic advice for GERD issues that have really helped my dog. I purchased a great dane puppy and they have been all over here care. I explained that I would be doing the spay and gastropexy at Countryside animal hospital because they offer laproscopic and they were extremely supportive of that decision. I really feel that they want the best care for the animal. I know that some people think that going to a chain hospital might result in lesser care, but I contend that the level of care is often the amount of time taken to know the animal. They are great at taking time with the animal and explaining everything to the owner. They never push any medicine, but I feel that they would offer advice on medicine (flea and tick, hearworm) if you asked. I strongly suggest checking them out for a new puppy especially. There wellness plans are extremely affordable. I know I would have spent at least a thousand dollars on my 11 week old great dane if I was not on a puppy wellness plan. I feel like I am saving money and still getting quality care. Can't get better than that. read more

EXCELLENT!! My whole experience was wonderful. I joined Banfield about a year ago. I am a procrastinator by nature, so I never brought my cat in for the initial appointment. I thought this might be a problem when I had to rush my cat in for an emergency visit. It was not, they fit me right in. The whole staff was super nice. Dr Newman was great. He took his time, didn't make me feel rushed, and was very kind to my cat. Is it possible to give ZERO stars??? NEVER GO HERE. I made an appointment for a rabbi shot for my dog and cat. I asked several times: I can get just the shot, yes? I was told yes. They called to confirm my appointment twice and I asked both times - just the rabbi shot, yes?? They will be given just the shot?? I was told yes. I asked the price. They told me $20 per shot. I go to check out, and it's $146!!! They lie and are very deceitful. The manager just kept saying: All our vaccinations come with a physical.... Then why not say that over the phone? Because its called cheating people. They swindled me. And the up-sell for more and more services is out of control. They do not care a hoot about your pet. They are too busy asking for your credit card. read more

My dog was there for dental cleaning, a man from there called me and ask if I wanted to cut her nails, drops for ticks and fleas? I said she already had. So he said my wellness plan will expire next month if I wanted X Ray. I said for what she is so health, he said in her joins, she has the rigth is included in her plan, you don't have to pay.(they wanted to take money out of the wellplan) OK! Two hours later a lady vet called, and she said, she is doing very well, she needs to take some teeth of, If I agreeed to pay between 1100 to 1200 hundred. I said if she is well without problems, OK I will pay it ! After She called again crying and said my dog is dead.... a 10 pounds MINI HOT DOG!( she maybe killed my sunshine, my sweetheart with to much anesthesia ) negligence....broken .
